That's the sound of the record 5,250 people who jammed the Burns Arena Thursday night as the Utah Jazz completed a 104.95 win over the Indiana Pacers. The game marked the first preseason contest of the new year. Karl Malone scored 27 points and Thurl Bailey added 26 as the Jazz completed a week of preseason practice. By beginning the exhibition season, no question, the Jazz continues the chemistry that allowed the Utah squad to push the NBA champ, L.A. lA Lakers to the limit during last season's playoff action. Coach Frank Layton is pleased. There's no doubt about that. We've got good people on our team. I think they're happy to be with us. They're proud to be with us. And I think if we can carry that kind of spirit into the into the season, throughout the season, this is going to be a very good basketball team. Chuck Person led the much improved Pacers with 22 points. The NBA training camp was a first for St. George and according to the Jazz head coach, the Dixie center crowd was impressive for the other team, which was good when they were introduced. But then when the game started they were all Jazz and I think sell out crowd and a lot of enthusiasm in the game. There was some exciting plays. I hope we can come back and do it again next year. Final score Once again, The Utah Jazz 104, the Indiana Pacers 95 Larry Jewell reporting.
