On paper it was a mismatch, but by the time it was all over, it was almost the upset the Grand Junction Colorado fans had hoped for in the second round at the National Junior College Baseball World Series. Three time national champ and currently number one ranked San Jacinto north jumped on Dixie for a seven nothing lead after three innings. But the Rebels began a furious comeback in the fifth inning keyed by a grand slam home run by Mark Roberts kept bringing the score back close and by the time the game was over it was a final san Jacinto at 11, but Dixie 10. Dixie had the bases loaded in the ninth inning when Mark Roberts doubled off the left field wall. Two of the three runners scored. Reed Secrest trying to score from first base was thrown out by inches at home plate on a perfect relay throw by San Jacinto. That ended the ball game and sends that San Jacint into a Tuesday night matchup against Brevard of Florida. Dixie now will play at 12 noon Tuesday, a game to be heard right here on KDXU against Wabash Valley of Illinois. The other consolation game will have Cochise vs. Iowa Western. Cochise eliminated Brookdale, New Jersey by a score of 9 to 7 in the evening championship bracket game. Northeastern Oklahoma needed only five innings to bury Iowa Western 12 2. Once again the final score Monday afternoon in Grand Junction for Dixie it was 10, but San Jacinto north came up with one more run, 11 to 10. San Jack wins. Larry Jewell reporting.
