£210. That might be stretching it a little bit. It's more slender than that. 6ft 4. First pitch in the dirt. Ball 1. Five straight balls thrown by Lawhead. So he was on the first with the first two batters, but now starting to struggle. Coach Bob Snyder has to be a little bit concerned. Their prime pitcher is Shannon Sherman. Adrian Atkins is a prime relief pitcher. Both saw action against Brevard. Sherman went most of the way, picked up his first loss on the year. Leading off of first base is Sechrest. Law had coming to the plate low with the pitch. Ball too. Two hole count. So Dixie trying to generate something early against Wabash Valley. First trip to the tournament for either side. Into the stretch, Lawhead looks a secrest at first, comes to the plate called strike at the knees. 21 pitch. Hitter's advantage normally you think so you can start to pick on the pitch that you want with a 21 count. Mark Roberts secrest over at first base. Ball hit, comes back to first base with the throw. Secrest back easily. Wabash Valley. A lot of people are saying, where in the world is Wabash Valley? How close to Chicago? Six hours close, that's how close it is. Closer to Evansville, Indiana, down in the southern portion of the state. Into the stretch. Lawhead looks at first base long time. Next pitch called strike at the knees. And he is giving the low strike today. Chad Erickson benefited now. Pat Lawhead benefited. Two two count on Mark Roberts. Already two strikeouts on the day for Lawhead. Bottom of the first inning, no score. Wabash Valley, the visiting team for a change, into the stretch. Timeout call. Lawhead follows through with a curve ball and will knock out either way. We're in the first game of what will be a triple header today at Stoker Stadium. Ralph Stoker Memorial Stadium. The next game will be at 3 o', clock, depending on how fast this one goes between Cochise of Arizona and Iowa Western. Iowa Western dumped royally by Northeastern Oklahoma 12 to 2 last night. In five innings into the stretch, Law hit going to secrest on the ground in through the hole. Across the shortstops club. Moving on to third base is Sechrest. Big turn at first by Roberts. Let's see if they count that as an error or a hit. Robertson at first base. Sechrest going with the pitch, moves on to third. And they're going to call that one a base hit. Skipped over the shortstops glove as he tried to back at it. And Roberts now six hits in the tournament. Two men on first hit of the day for either side and Sid Smith trying to play to runner. Dixie would like to stay here another day and another day and another day and still another day if needed. Lawhead the sechrest on third and Mark Roberts on first. Looks at first base into the stretch. Coming to the plate, Sid Smith takes a strike. Fastball at the knees. Strike one to Sid Smith. Wind seems to be a little gustier today than it was yesterday. Normally during this midday game, this early day game, the wind has not been a factor. It's usually picked up a little bit later in the first three days of the tournament. Usually picked up early in the afternoon towards the end of the first ball game. In fact, Saturday when they began at 9 o'. Clock. I don't think there was much wind at all during that first game. Call strike two on the curveball. So Lawhead getting the pitches in. Oh, two count to Sid Smith. Signs being given by Gordon Jolly, Reed Seacrest and Mark Roberts studying them judiciously. Wabash Valley at the top step, applauding, rhythmic applause. Group of kids that are just having fun. No question about it. They're just here and enjoying life, playing good baseball because they are relaxed. Almost got a good Brevard team the other night. Oh, to pitch to Sid Smith. Law had in trouble going as Mark Roberts swung on. Foul tip off the catcher and hurting is Jeff Gibbs. May have taken that one on the knuckle. So Roberts was feeling. Count holds at 0 and 2. Well, they send Roberts again, 0 two count Law ahead. His two outs who come by way of strikeouts Leonelli and Peterson. Lawhead looks at Sid Smith. On deck is Mark Tolbert. Roberts leaps off of first base, has a good sized lead. Will he come to first base? Coming to the plate. Fastball fouled back. Roberts was moving but not stealing. Count holds, no balls, two strikes. Gordon Jolly, all 6ft 5 inches of him, standing down at third base. Giving signals now to both Roberts and Smith. Marty Haney doing the chores at first base. Pat Lawhead on the mound for Wabash Valley. Infield is back with two men out. Two men on. Sid Smith with an 02 count at the plate. Lawhead has not tried to tease him. Moving outside. Yes, going is Mark Roberts. The throw through. Roberts comes up short on the slide, bounces up anyway. Darren Lynam didn't catch. Roberts stopping before he got to second base. Roberts slid and actually had come to a full stop about 2ft away from second base. But the throw was cut off by shortstop Lineham. Give the stolen base To Mark Roberts. So Dixie being aggressive on the base pass one two pitch coming up to Sid Smith. Man on. At second and third. Lihead will go into the full wind up now two men in scoring position. Smith call strike three. No question about it. Smith just couldn't pull the trigger. End of the first inning, Dixie. No runs, one hit, two men left. And at the end of one complete inning of play, no score. Back in 60 seconds. There are great savings at Sprouse this week on Nintendo and Nintendo games. Right Now Nintendo is only 99.97. Sports Authority Dixie's 890KDXU Top of the second inning, Dixie and Wabash Valley. Dixie squandering a couple of chances there as they got one man on, stranded two. Actually had two men on base hit by Mark Roberts and the over the walk to Secrest. Stranded two and could not score. Wabash Valley will send to the plate number four hitter Jeff Gibbs, catcher. And Paul Mattinger, the right fielder will be next and Chris Mayfield, the third baseman will be after that. Gibbs is. Let me see if I can find Gibbs there. Jeff Gibbs, 5, 9165-pounder, has a little pop to the bat too. That's why he's batting number four. Even though he's only 165 pounds, he can drive the ball pretty well on the year. See if we can catch that. Gibbs has nine home runs. Chad Erickson, we had a 1, 2, 3 first inning, trying to do the same in the second. Everybody's back deep first pitch it on the ground into the hole. Mark Roberts backhands comes up guns to first. Scooped out by Mark Tolbert for the first out. Beautiful backhanded play by Tolbert as Roberts threw it into the dirt. One up, one down, one pitch. Paul Mattinger coming to the plate right handed, hitting right fielder. Matinger hitting.353 at the end of regulation of the regular season. Erickson has retired four straight batters outside with the first pitch. Ball one, Chris Mayfield on deck for Wabash Valley. The warriors of Wabash valley school of about 600. Erickson to the play. 10 pitch hit on the ground, slow hopper to Roberts. Gets the big hop at the last. Guns him out at first base. So once again Roberts has had three assists. Mark Dobert has had three put outs and only three pitches so far here in the second inning. Randy Frederickson wants to take a look at the baseball, see if he gives Chad Erickson a new one. Yes, he will. Some sort of blemish on that baseball. Sticks it from the right hip into the left hip pocket. Probably will show up again. Chris Mayfield, right handed hitting third baseman at the plate. The pitch just misses. High ball one. Tom Waits on deck. Frederickson will give the low strike, but not so much the high strike. Erickson to the plate, winds and fires outside. Ball two. First time that Erickson really has been behind on a hitter. Two men out here in the top of the second inning. Chad Erickson trying to give Dixie good pitching effort today and try to send it to a fourth day. The pitch. Call strike on that corner. 21 count to Chris Mayfield. Bob Snyder, slightly rotund coach down at first or at third base. Very pleasant young man. A very pleasant man to talk to. Willing to talk. Friendly open second pitch. Jez misses. Inside or fourth pitch, I should say it's a 31 count. Mayfield squared as if to bunt. More of a decoy than anything else. So a three one count coming up to Mayfield. Chad Erickson has a loose easy motion today. First game of a triple header today. Erickson to the plate. 31 pitch. Just misses outside. First walk of the day. First baserunner for Wabash Valley. So for Erickson, first time anybody's gone on. And the first time he's had to work from a stretch. Tom Waits batting seventh and playing left field. Waits 5:10, 190 pounder from Indianapolis, as we mentioned, at Wabash Valley, right on the Wabash River. That's how they got the name Wabash Valley. Lead off by Mayfield. First pitch swung on foul. Straight back. Strike one. So Erickson throwing strikes. That Wabash Valley is near Evansville, so Indianapolis is probably, if my geography serves me correctly, probably closer to Wabash Valley than Chicago is. Into the stretch. Erickson comes to the plate, just misses inside. Ball one one. Ball one strike count. Erickson stared at that baserunner before he came to the plate. Waits one one count for the left fielder. Into the stretch. Erickson going is Mayfield fouled off by weights. A little hit and run going. One and two count coming up. And so Mayfield will have to retreat. One two count coming up for Chris Mayfield. Waits unusual number for an outfielder. He's wearing 55. More like what you would find with a middle linebacker. Into the stretch. Erickson faking the run this time is Mayfield outside. Ball two two two count coming up to wait. Darren Barton, the first baseman on deck. Wabash Valley not impressive in their workouts, but in the game they do well. Going is the runner fouled off by weights again, so it's count will hold it. 22 in Mayfield. Like running ladders in basketball, I guess you could say. Or sprints. Will take off. Men have to retreat. Take off and have to retreat. Two. Two count. Holds to wait. Erickson looks at first base, comes to the plate. Two, two pitch. Just misses. Low three and two pitch. Now Mayfield will definitely go with two men out. Chad Erickson doesn't want to dig himself a hole. Top of the second inning. No score between Dixie and Wabash Valley. The winner lives again. Foul ball by weights. The loser has filled the limit of losses that you can come up with in this tournament. Slowly but surely, the stands are gathering more people, more fans. As I was talking to one of the officials here. Seats about 8,000. Going is Mayfield. Ball forward, low. So back to back walks puts Mayfield on second and waits on first for Wabash Valley. And coming to the plate now is first baseman Darren Barton. Barton south by hitter. Barton on the ear. Not a bad hitter.270 Average a little bit below what you usually find among the good hitters in junior college. Tolbert will play way back at first base because of the left handed hitter. They aren't going to hold weights on weights. Muscular young man, he gets a big leadoff. Erickson looks back at second base, comes to the plate. First pitch. Hit the left field and deep. Will it bang off the wall? Yes, right around the 302 sign. First run in. Here comes the second run. The throw cut off at the plate. Two runs in on the double by Darren Barton. So Barton goes the other way and doubles home. Two runners and Wabash Valley leads two to nothing. First hit of the ball game for Wabash Valley. Comes after two walks. And Dixie has not helped themselves. It's two nothing. Wabash Valley in the top of the second inning. High off that left field wall, just under the three hundred and two side. Man on a second base. Erickson to the plate, facing the number nine hitter. Big hopper to Anderson. One bounce throws across the diamond and ends the inning. But not before the damage is done. Two runs on one base hit. One left by Wabash Valley. And at the end of one and a half innings of play, it's Wabash Valley two, Dixie nothing. Back in 60. Right now is the time to buy a new GMC truck from Newbie Buick. You can still Lawhead. He struck out the side even though he struggled a little bit in the first inning. Gets a strike on Mark Tolbert to lead things off.01 pitch. Curveball swung on. A missed strike too. So Law ahead. Wink Lawhead pat called Wink, 18 year old doing a good job. Oh, two pitch to Mark Tolbert. Fastball foul, straight back. Tolbert didn't get around on it that well. Wyatt's throwing hard for a young man who isn't all that big. He's throwing hard. Two nothing. Wabash Valley, bottom of the second inning. Dixie the home team this time Mark Tolbert at the plate. The pitch fouled off to the right again, Tolbert hanging tough. Corey Meredith on deck. And then Scott Anderson starting at third base in place of Kelly Peterson. Today Peterson is remaining in the lineup as a pinch hitter. Stands slowly gathering more each inning. You see a few more people show up. Oh, two pitch to Mark Tolbert. Inside ball, 112 count to Tolbert. Tolbert had a couple of doubles yesterday. Went over five the first day, but had the game winning rbi. Oh, it's a one two pitch. Sweeped one bounce to the third baseman. Sweeping swing, throws high to first base on by way of the air. Tolbert will hang on. It hit a cameraman from a local television station as he overshot the first baseman. So Tolbert reaches on the error. Error on the third baseman, on the throw count. That one to Mayfield. And Tolbert is on Corey Meredith. Tolbert's sweeping swing headed one big bounce to the third baseman. And Mayfield came up and fired it hard. Too hard. Went sailing way over first base. The first baseman said. Darren Barton. Tolbert will hang on at first and at the plate. Corey Meredith. Meredith claimed last night that he had the world record for atom balls. Hit a line drive right at the second baseman to lead things off. Yesterday in his first time at bat, had a couple of base hits. Eventually Meredith looks at the pitch. Low one ball count. So Dixie gets the lead off batter on what should have been an out. An easy out. Svet Tolbert is on. Dixie with the two base on balls. Helps set up Wabash Valley. Dixie hoping to take advantage now. Into the stretch. Lawhead comes to first base. Back has Tolbert easily. Wabash Valley, a school of about 600, so significantly smaller than Dixie. Into the stretch. Lawhead looks back at first base, comes to the plate. Fastball. But by Meredith right out in front of the plate. It's going to be tough to get him. Meredith gets gotten at first base. Meredith thought he was safe. Meredith is upset they called him out at first base. And once again the fans are on the new first base umpire. Meredith talking to the first base umpire, Chip Barris. They just kicked Corey Meredith out of the ball game. Oh, no, not again. The first base umpire. And now Chip Barris talking to the first base umpire. Meredith apparently has been kicked out of the ball game. So he gets the sacrifice. Moving on to second base is Tolbert. And for two straight days, Chip Barris is talking to the first base umpire. Right now. Meredith was upset. He thought he'd beaten out the bunt. And Gordon Jolly comes over. I don't know if you could hear him in the background. Said succinctly, keep your mouth shut. So Meredith has been kicked out of the ball game. We'll have to get a new left fielder for Dixie College next inning. Meredith is gone. Meredith has to leave the field. And the fans here. First base umpire with a short fuse. It's not the same first base umpire, but it makes you wonder at this point. Meredith is upset. He's off to the into the stands. He's going to have to watch from way away from the field. There will be a new left fielder next inning. Scott Anderson at the plate, making his first plate appearance. One man out. Man on the second base now. And Anderson, right handed hitter from Cedar City High School hit the right field. Base hit into right field. Tolbert will round third base. They'll hold him at third. Throw a strike right to the plate. Right fielder has an arm, a gun. Paul Mattinger. So Anderson singles to right field, moves Tolbert onto third base. And Mike Page coming to the plate. One man out. Two men on. Dixie with a tying run on his second base. Meredith sitting in the auxiliary stands way down the right field line. I don't think they'll force him to go clear out of the park. I think they'll just let him stay there. We'll wait and see. But not a good start. Meredith was upset. He thought he'd beaten the throw. In fact, the fans over on this side thought so. Also at the plate, Mike Page. Chance to drive in a run with one man out. Low pitch into the dirt. Ball one to Mike Page. So Dixie will have to dig into the bench a little deeper than anticipated. A little earlier than anticipated. Lawhead wants to come to the plate. Men on first and second. The pitch grounded up the middle. Chance for a double play. Yes. To the shortstop. Back to first base. They call him out again. Unbelievable. And the first base umpire's gotten him a second time. So the double play is complete. Dixie does not score. Does not at least one man on base. And at the end of two complete innings of play, it's Wabash Valley two, Dixie, nothing. Back in 60. Wayne's Window Furnishings offers vertical blinds by Hunter Douglas. Call Wayne's window furnishings at 628-1814. Tri State Office Supply. Taking care of business. Top of the third inning. Top of the order for Wabash Valley. Brad Maxey followed by Lyneum, John Smith. Corey Meredith is gone. Finishes 0 for OH today and has a sacrifice to his credit. Troy Murray, the new man in the lineup. We'll pick it up as we go. First pitch to Maxey, lifted to right field. To the new man, Troy Murray. Murray is in right and Leonelli has moved to left. So Murray gets the first put out. Maxey went to the second baseman first. Time flies out to the right fielder this time. One up, one down, one pitch, so Meredith is through for the day. Troy Murray, batting in Meredith's place, will play right. Leonelli moves to left. Pitch to Lyneum. Outside ball one. One ball count on Darren Lynam. John Smith on deck. Chad Erickson winds and fires. The pitch. Outside. Ball 2. 20 count. Erickson is walked to. Has not struck out anybody today. Given up one base hit, but gave up two runs in the process. Erickson to the plate. Call strike on the corner. Two on count. Frederickson. Randy Frederickson, the home plate umpire, being a little more liberal. I believe the base umpire, first base umpire today is Mike Bullock. 21 pitch hit deep to left field. That's going to be back against the wall. Leonelli leaps off his glove, will fire into second base. Let's see if they score that as a double or an error on Leonelli. He had to go back to the fence and leap. And they're gonna count that one a. Let's see if they count that one a hit. They will. So it'll be a double for Darren Lynam. So only two hits and they're both doubles by Wabash Valley. Wabash Valley, good hitting ball club. John Smith to the plate. Smith and Mr. Do everything. Probably the best pro prospect on the Wabash Valley team has some power. Not that big, but he can scoot. He can run, too. Pitch lifted towards left field. Shallow left field. Leonelli may have lost it. Back deep is Roberts. He drifted back into shallow left Field to get that one. So it'll be a fly out to the shortstop in shallow left field. Second down, man on at second base and Jeff Gibbs coming to the plate. Gibbs grounded after the shortstop his first time up. Dixie trying to hold. Wabash Valley where they are. Chad Erickson doing a good job on the mound so far. Dixie trying to get the bats uncranked. They've picked up a couple of hits, but have not been able to pick up any runs. Top of the third inning, Illinois versus Utah, it says on the scoreboard. Erickson long time looking into his catcher, Sid Smith. Couple of football teammates now, baseball teammates. Erickson, the tight end, and Sid Smith the defensive back. Erickson stares in into the stretch. Looks back at second base at Lyneham. Comes to the plate. Breaking pitch outside, ball one. Mattinger on deck for Jeff Gibbs. Gibbs went one for four the first day. Had a couple of RBIs, though. Into the stretch. Erickson looks back at second again. 1o pitch inside, ball two. 2, 0 count to Jeff Gibbs. Gibbs the catcher on this day. And as we mentioned, catchers have probably been the most outstanding in this tournament. That's been the strongest position. Looking back at second, Erickson fires, Fouled straight back. Two balls, one strike count to Jeff Gibbs. As we mentioned, if Dixie wins, we'll be on the air tomorrow. It's a three o' clock start. Dixie will play the loser out of San Jacinto, north and Brevard. So Dixie could be rematched with a Texas team, depending on what happens later tonight. But they first have to get the two runs back and get ahead of Wabash Valley. Erickson looks back at second. 2, 1 pitch. Gibbs hits it deep to left center field. It's going way back. Will it clear? No. Off the fence. One run will score. Gibbs is on his way to third base, picked up by Secrest. Fires, hits the cutoff man. So run scoring triple by Jeff Gibbs. Hit it right in front, right off the 365 sign. Just to the right of the 365 sign, but hit it close to 375ft. Gibbs will get a courtesy runner now and Scott Robertson, who will be in as a courtesy runner. So an RBI for Gibbs makes it three to nothing. Garon Lineham scored easily from second base. Two men out. A man on third and Paul Mattinger had to play three nothing. Wabash Valley over Dixie. Chad Erickson to come to the plate. Winds and fires. Line drive towards left center field. It's in the gap. Scoring is Robertson on His way to second with a stand up double as Mattinger. And so it's extra base time for Wabash Valley. Mattinger with the RBI make it four to nothing. Shades of yesterday for Dixie College when it was a 7 nothing lead by San Jacinto north before Dixie could get untracked. It's four nothing now and Chris Mayfield, the third baseman, coming to the plate. Erickson served that one up and Mattinger served it out into left center field. So the outfield getting some work today. Two men out, top of the third inning, it's four nothing, Wabash Valley over Dixie. And Chad Erickson probably the key man today if he can keep Wabash Valley under some semblance of control. Give the bats a chance to go call strike. Strike one to Chad Erickson or to Chris Mayfield from Erickson. Erickson looks back at second base again to the plate. Fastball just misses ball one. Sid Smith tried to coax that one into a strike and couldn't one one count. Cochise College is already here to take some batting practice, get loosened up for their game. At three o' clock into the stretch. Erickson looks back at second base, comes to the plate. One one pitch hit on the line right to second baseman Mike Page. That ends the inning, but not before the damage is done. Two runs on three base hits, a runner left, and at the end of three and a two and a half innings of play, it's Wabash Valley, Fort Dixie, nothing. Back in 60. Motorsports Land has the boat to make your summer memorable. Harmon's has an excellent variety and selection for your family needs from the best in meats. Top of the order, Chris Leonelli, who's moved from right to left. Leonelli, who struck out in the first inning to lead things off. Dixie has the top of the order, but they've staked Wabash Valley to a 4 no nothing lead. All of the runs are earned so far as Erickson has given up four hits on the day. Lawhead's only given up two and isn't yet to give up a run. Leonelli strikeout in the first inning. He'll be followed by Kelly Peterson and Reed Sechrest, lawhead coming to the plate. Leonelli takes a strike, called one. Strike one. Leonelli, whose parents made the trip from Salt Lake City to watch him play here. Chris Leonelli into the wind, up and fouled right at the plate. Leonelli oh two count talking with his parents. He has a brother who is significantly taller. His brother apparently is an excellent student. Chris is not a bad student, but an excellent, more academic sort than athletic sort. His brother says. It's a shame I got the size and Chris, who didn't get the size, got the athletic abilities. As if we could only combine it somehow. Chris Leonelli, walk on. Has been a key member of this Dixie college team this year. 02 pitch to Leonelli. Outside ball one. Marty Haney coaching down at first. Gordon Jolly over at third base trying to get some base runners. Dixie had the first runner on. Last inning by way of the air pitch. Curveball lifted towards left field and shallow. But right there to grab it is Tom Weitz. So the fly ball to left field. One man out. Kelly Peterson coming to the plate. Yesterday Dixie was down seven nothing to the number one team in the nation and time and again kept coming back at San Jacinto North. But some fielding mistakes cost Dixie and they ended up one run short against the number one team in the nation. This is the number 20 team in the nation now. Law head to the plate. Fastball just misses Lowe. Ball one to Kelly Peterson. Peterson took a called third strike in the first inning. Peterson designated hitter today, lifted towards center field. Actually drifting more towards right field now over there and getting, finally dancing under it and getting it is the right fielder, Paul Mattinger. So popping out to the right fielder is Kelly Peterson. Two out, two up, two down. And Reed Sechrest did the plate. Secrest, the number two home run hitter on the year for Dixie College. And in that number three position, that's where you usually expect your best all around hitter. The only left handed hitter in the lineup. Sechrist walked his first time out, so he's without an official time at bat. Swung on, a missed strike. One high hard one from Law. Hit two men out. Nobody on for Diggsy. Dixie trailing four nothing. Next pitch, skips right by the catcher. Ball one one ball one strike. Wabash Valley had the luxury of taking a day off after they had a heartbreaking loss at the hands of Brevard of Florida. Law had one one pitch up. Ball two fastball up high. Law had does fire that ball. Good live fastball. He's working hard. One two count to Reed Secrest. Sechrest, the center fielder, outside low. Ball three. Just missed three. One count coming up to Secrest. Left hander against left hander. Jeff Gibbs takes a couple of steps out in front of the plate. Lawhead walking around that mound. I'm not sure what the problem is, but he took a little walk around that mound. 3, 1 pitch Wink Lawhead to the plate. Swung on, a missed strike two. Secrest. Wants to tie it up with a 12 run homer, the way he's swinging right now. Three, two pitch. Lifted high into shallow center field. Drifting over as the center fielder. Can't come up with it. No, they finally drop it and on at second base is secret having it in his hands with weights. He grabbed it, bumped into his center fielder, dropped it, grabbed it again at the shoulder level, dropped it again, grabbed it at the knee level, can never get a hold of it and finally dropped. It's going to have to be an error. Reed Sechrest on a second base, running all the way. It'll be an error on the left fielder on weights. Second error of the ball game for Wabash Valley and Mark Roberts to the plate. Roberts, who singled in the first inning, hit it right by the shortstop on a second basis. Sechrest. So Sechrest has been up twice and has been on twice. This time the fly ball dropped by the left fielder. Quite a juggling act. And he finally dropped it about 12 degrees. Too hot to hang on to. Apparently the wind playing a little havoc with that ball up there at the plate. Mark Roberts. The pitch outside. Ball one. Dixie with a chance to score again. Sits Smith on deck. Two men out. Secrest on at second base by way of the error. Dixie trailing four nothing to Wabash Valley. We're in the bottom of the third inning. A scheduled nine run game into the stretch. Lawhead looks back at second base, comes to the plate outside and high. Ball two. Mark Roberts. Robert stunned this crowd yesterday with a grand slam home run off the number two pitcher for San Jacinto North. Scott McCarty was rocked for that grand slam and that began a tremendous comeback by Dixie. They planted a seed in the minds not only of San Jacinto north, but also of a lot of other ball clubs that the number one team can be had. Roberts. 2o count to Roberts. Lawhead with two men out, trying to get out of the inning and keep the shutout alive. Looking back at Secrest taking a long time, steps off that rubber. Mark Roberts, sophomore, headed to UNLV next year. Lawhead looks back at second base. Looks back again, comes to the plate. Fastball lifted towards left field. Should be an easy play, but losing it as weights is going to drop. It's going to drop as a single. High sky and weights. Never saw it in the second base. Let's see if it'll go as a double. As Roberts was running all away. Have to give him a double because he ran all the way on it. The left fielder, Waits looked up, looked up, never moved. And howler did the shortstop. Help me out. So a wind blown double and the first run is in. Give Roberts his eighth RBI of this tournament. Mark Roberts with his eighth run batted into the tournament. Law had unearned run. By the way, that is a run, but it is not an earned run. Dixie now 4, 4 to 1. Sid Smith the plate. So the fly ball lost in left field. Little bit of a high sky there. And Waits just plain didn't pick it up. And it fell in left center field about 20ft away from where Waits was. Question of sunglasses. Assistant coach out talking. Waits just plain lost it. So Waits feeling a little snake bit right now. Base hit, double by Roberts. That's his third double of the tournament. And at the plate is Sid Smith. Four to one, ball game. The one has not been put up on the board yet. Robertson at second base and Sid Smith to the plate. Hit chopped high, second baseman trying to get it. And it will be a little pop fly for the third out to retire this side. But Dixie does get one run on one base hit. A runner stranded. And at the end of three complete innings of play, it's Wabash Valley four, Dixie one back in 60. There are great savings at sprouse this week on Nintendo and Nintendo games. Right now Nintendo is only 99.9. Doubles, triples. So it's been rocking. Chad Erickson, 4 to 1 lead after the lost in the high sky double by Mark Roberts. You take them as you get them, Usually even out, usually hit a couple on the button every year that somebody's standing in front of and then you get one like that and that all they say it always evens out. I'm not sure if there have been statistics to keep track of that. Bottom third of the order. Tom Waits trying to make amends now. First pitch just misses Lowe. Ball one. Chad Erickson stares down at the home plate. Umpire waits with Barton on deck. Next pitch called strike one. One count. Barton had the triple that scored the two runs in the second inning. He's the man that's waiting on deck. The southpaw hitter waits one One pitch coming up. Breaking pitch, just ticked off to the right side. One two count awaits. Waits walked his last time up. One of two bases on balls that Erickson gave up and both of them ended up scoring. Gave up two walks with two men out. One two pitch to Waits. Erickson to the plate. Called strike three. First strike out of the day for Chad Erickson. Erickson gets his first K. One man out. And to the plate is Darren Barton. Wabash Valley seems to have some sentimental favorite fans here. Also making their first trip from the Illinois area. It's a long ways to come. Very pleasant coach Bob Snyder. Very pleasant man to deal with. Easy man to deal with. And so it's made some friends already in this time here. Erickson to Barton. First pitch, breaking pitch, inside ball one, backs him back. One ball, no strike count on deck. Kevin Barkett, the Designated hitter. Erickson, 10 pitch to the plate. Just misses low ball 2. Wabash Valley up, cheering on their teammates. It's a case of a couple of Cinderella teams against each other. Wabash Valley, the higher ranked team for Brevard, actually I think was favored by many. Pitch inside ball three. So Barton, who tripled in two runs his first time up, now facing a 3o count. Dixie has not had an easy time of it. 30 pitch coming up. Call strike. Fastball at the knees. Barton Musket her young man, square shouldered, left handed hitter. 31 pitch, grounded towards first base. Backhanded by Tolbert. Erickson gets over and they beat him at first base. Diving was Barton, Tolbert as Erickson was a little slow getting off the mound. But Tolbert able to backhand and get him out. So it'll go out three to one. Two men out and Kevin Barkett, the designated hitter, coming to the plate. Right handed hitter. Market grounded out to the third baseman, Scott Anderson to end that uprising in the second inning. Erickson two up, two down, coming to the plate. Fastball called strike. Erickson had a double clutch out there, which you can do with nobody on base. Started stop. Then started his motion again. One strike count to Kevin Barkett. Stocky right handed hitter to the plate. Breaking pitch, swung on, a miss way out in front of it. So Barkett. Oh two counts. Barkett listed at five, nine. 175,02 pitch to market. Fastball just missed. Outside ball one, two up, two down, top of the fourth inning. Dixie trails four to one to Wabash Valley in an elimination game. The loser goes home. Fitch ground ball, big hop cut off by Roberts. Throws to first base. Could they get him? Yes. And I think Dixie College has learned one thing. Even if they're upset with the first base umpire, he is consistent. He's been calling the tight ones out. So three up, three down. End of the top of the fourth inning. Wabash Valley leads four to one over Dixie. Back at 64 to one. Wabash Valley over Dixie. Mark Tolbert the leading home run hitter for Dixie, to begin things. Followed by Troy Murray, who is in for Corey Meredith, and then Scott Anderson. So Murray and Anderson making their first appearances in this tournament in the National Junior College World Series. Fly ball lost in the sun, lost in the high sky by the left fielder. Allowed the double by Mark Roberts and got Dixie its first run. First pitch to Tolbert, a five, ball one. Lawhead still throwing hard. Tolbert grounded out or grounded to the third baseman. The third baseman overthrew first base, so he reached on an error. Next pitch, up high. Ball two, two, zero count to Tolbert. Lawhead throws hard. Throw significantly harder than Erickson does. He's significantly smaller, about 5 to 6 inches shorter. Law ahead to the plate. 2, 0 pitch, foul straight back. Troy Murray on deck for Tolbert. On the year. Comes into this tournament averaging.336, but with power, 18 home runs. The pitch, two, one, pitch call, strike at the knees. Two, two, count. Lihead's been right around that plate, but has three strikeouts working in his fourth inning to play. All three of those strikeouts came in the first inning. Two, two count to Mark Tolbert. Nobody on, nobody out. Thought over the fourth inning pitch chopped right at the plate. Foul ball hit the plate, bounced up, hit Tolbert, bounced to the side. Umpire Randy Frederickson towers over both catcher Jeff Gibbs and pitcher Pat Lawhead. It's an Everyman's game. Gibbs at 5 9. Lawhead listed at 5 11, and that may be generous. And Tolbert at near 6 4. Towers over all, both of them. Two, two, count to Tolbert. Lawhead long time looking into that catcher. Fastball fouled off to the right side. Tolbert keeps alive. Similar to last time. Stolberg got two strikes and then fouled off a couple of pitches before grounding to the third baseman. Wind is brisk, as brisk as it's been consistently in this tournament. Coming from right field. 2, 2 pitch wafted towards center field, shallow center field. Second baseman going back and has it. And it looked like the outfielders lost it again. They could not see it out there. So fly ball into shallow center field. Grabbed by the second baseman going out. One up, one down. And Troy Murray to the plate. Murray wearing lucky number 13. Freshman out of Layton, Utah. Six foot 190 pounder, outstanding high school football player. Quarterback also very stocky young man, good athlete, anxious to play in this tournament. Timeout called by the third base umpire. I'm not sure what the situation was. He was pointing to the assistant coach for Wabash Valley about something. I'm not sure if there was a ball on the field or what. Called strike on the corner. Murray. First action whatsoever. First time at bat in the Junior College World Series. Right handed hitter. Law ahead to the plate, up high. Ball one one ball one strikeout. Law ahead looks like he's found somewhat of a groove. Shaking his hand right now. I don't know if his arm's hurting or what. He's suddenly shaking his left arm. So it must be may have been something on that last pitch. Hand or wrist or elbow, it looks like. Almost like he has a kink in his arm. He's trying to loosen it up. One one pitch to Murray. Ground ball right back to the pitcher. Law had up throws to first base and two men out. So Law head to the first baseman. Two up, two down. Scott Anderson coming to the plate. Anderson is one for one in the tournament. Law head. Something's wrong, Something's wrong. There's a kink some way. Jeff Gibbs is out wrapping his arms around. Law had. Had Gibbs pull on his left arm, wrapped around him, grab him from behind and pull that arm around. So there's something. It may be shoulder at that point. Law had trying to loosen something up. He's throwing hard anyway, but something isn't feeling right with that left shoulder or left arm or left wrist. Must be the shoulder or the elbow area. Two men up, two men down. Scott Anderson, one for one in the tournament. One for one on the day. Third baseman today in place of the injured Kelly Peterson. The pitch called strike. Bottom of the fourth inning, Dixie trails 4 to 1 to Wabash Valley. Law hit one. Oh pitch outside. Ball one. The wind, if anything, has gotten another 5 to 10 miles per hour stronger suddenly. Now the dust is starting to kick up and it is getting brisk and a little cooler today. About 10 degrees cooler. The pitch line down that right field line foul. So Anderson went the other way with the outside pitch. Anderson played a year at Snow College before transferring from Cedar City High School. He and Darren Earl, a relief pitcher from Hurricane High School, are the closest to local ballplayers on the Dixie College team. One one pitch, curveball foul down the left side. A one, two pitch, I should say Count remains one and two. Baseball ends up in left field deep after ricocheted off the stands. Retrieve now count holds one ball, two strikes, two men out. Bottom of the fourth inning and it's gusting very strong right now. We may have to start catching papers as they fly out the window. Curveball swung on and missed. Strike three. That ends the fourth inning. Three up, three down at the end of four complete innings of play. Wabash Valley four, Dixie one. Back in 60 seconds. Top of the fifth inning. Dixie trails four to one. Wabash Valley will start at the top of the order again, Brad Maxey. Maxey, who is over five in the first game, is now over seven as he flied out. First of all, popped out to the second baseman, then fly out to the right fielder. So he's gotten the right to the right side each time. Erickson, except for two innings, has been sailing right along. First pitch to Maxey. Golf strike on the corner. Top of the fifth inning, quick moving ball game, but Dixie trying to avoid elimination. Breaking pitch. Ooh, tough call. They went with a ball on that. He held up one ball, one strike count. Erickson wanted that one called. One. One pitch coming up to Brad Maxey. Erickson sifted off the right side. First baseman Mark Tolbert in foul territory. Grabs it. So fouling out to first baseman Tolbert as Maxey. He's 0 for 3 on the day now. Darren Lyneum to the plate. Lineham doubled his last time up and scored on Jeff Gibbs triple. So he's 1 for 2. Has a home run to his credit in this tournament. Breaking pitch outside. Ball one. John Smith on deck. Dangerous hitter, John Smith. Darren Lyneham shortstop. Pitch. Fastball call. Strike at the knees. It looks suspiciously like Frederickson's a little inconsistent behind the plate right now. That one looked more like a ball. Next pitch. Lifted foul coming in our direction. Will it clear? Right off the top of our roof here. I just hear it now. Dolbert gave it a shot, thought that the wind might blow it back into fair territory. As strong as the wind is right now. One ball, two. Strike count to Darren Lyneham. Dixie trailing four to one to Wabash Valley. The pitch. Breaking pitch hit deep to center field. But Secrest is drifting over. The wind has caught it and he ends up in left center field grabbing it. It looked like it was going to be deep in the wind. Caught it as it got up there. Secrecy kept running and running and running and finally caught up with it. Two up, two down. John Smith who is grounded out to Mark Roberts and then popped out into shallow center field to Mark Roberts. Left center field, last time up. Smith over two on the day. First pitch lined right at third baseman Scott Anderson. That ends in him. Three up, three down, bullet right at Anderson and he grabbed it right at eye level. At the end of four and a half innings of play, Wabash Valley for Dixie. Dixie one back in 60. Wayne's Window Furnishings back at Grand Junction, Colorado. Wabash Valley for Dixie 1 into the bottom of the fifth inning. This is a nice, calm, comfortable, midday, relaxed, not too exciting sort of baseball game. It's just been a very comfortable game to watch. There's been a little, little bit of fireworks. Some extra base hits by Wabash Valley produced four runs and two innings. Two in the second, two in the third. And that's the scoring. Dixie on a lost in the high sky double by Mark Roberts and scored. And Reed Seacrest got their only run in the third inning. Chad Erickson been pitching very well. Dixie. Mike Page, bottom of the order to lead things off in the bottom of the fifth inning. Then we go to the top of the order, Leonelli and to Peterson against Law Head, who's still trying to get whatever kink is in his shoulder or arm out. Still wiggling out there. First pitch to Mike Page. Fastball just misses outside. Ball 1. Page grounded into the 4, 6, 3 double play to end the second inning after Tolbert had reached on an error. Next pitch, ball two. Up high. Frederickson is definitely not giving the high strikes to the pitchers. 2, 0 count to Mike Page. Next pitch, very high. That one definitely was not a high strike. That was up around, chin level and over the plate. 3, 0 Count to Mike Page trying to lead things off. Dixie needs some base. Runners down by 3 runs, 4 to 1. 3, 0 pitch call strike on the corner. That's a given. Question is, do you put the take on again? Wabash Valley starting to stir in the bullpen now. Three, one count to Page. Called strike two. Page started and held up, just hit that corner. Three, two count to second baseman Mike Page. Page was one for three yesterday. Zero for three the first day scored three runs yesterday. The pitch fisted towards center field, towards the second baseman, picked up, fires to first base. Just died as it got past the pitcher's mound. One bounce to the second baseman. So four to three. First out from the second baseman to the first baseman and Chris Leonelli. Leonelli struck out his first time up and hit an easy fly ball to the left fielder. His second time up. So he's over Two today. Dixie's bat have bats have been hushed by Law Head. Just three hits on the day for Dixie and one of those lost in the sun. That should have been an easy fly ball. So Dixie has been very quiet with the bat after exploding against San Jacinto north yesterday. Bottom of the fifth inning, one man out, fastball up high. Leonelli. Has been the pleasant surprise. Fisted over to our side, right just off the front of our our booth here. It hit right above, right above. Bob James, who's working for the Sentinel here, is in the booth with me. And it was closer to him than it was to me. I wasn't about to make a dive after it. I could end up down there in the front row, just below me. One one pitch to Leonelli. Call strike at the knees. One two count. One two count to Leonelli. One man out. Dixie trying to get something started against Lawhead, but Law had been strong today. 1, 2 pitch change up lofted towards right center field. Right fielder Mattinger drifting in, drifting in. Finally grabs it easy fly ball before it's all over. Had to play for that Windy. You have to keep drifting in when you get it up in that because it's coming from right field and it'll hold it up. Two up, two down. And Dixie has been calm at the plate thus far. Kelly Peterson, who came in hitting.727 in this tournament, is over two today. Designated hitter this day. Breaking pitch. It looked almost like a knuckleball, I thought. Ball one. That one did some funny things. One ball count to Kelly Peterson with two men out. Law hit the pitch fast ball low. Ball two, two zero count to Peterson. Reed Sechrest on deck. Dixie trailing four to one to Wabash Valley and has not been able to solve Lawhead yet. 11 count or the 20 count. Fouled towards the third base side. It will drift into the stands, the. Into the stands without the wind. The third baseman might have had a shot at it with the wind. Three rows from the top, behind third base, had the best shot at it. 21 count to Peterson. Flag is blowing, waving. Whole glory of center field is really in full glory in this win. Flags all around the stadium here at Lincoln Park. This is part of the Lincoln park park complex, is owned by the city. Stoker Stadium is in the middle of an entire park complex. Beautiful complex. 21 cap goes to 3, 1 low, sechrest on deck. Kelly Peterson trying to make it to first base. How well he'll be able to run is iffy. Definitely has the pulled hamstring Lawhead is still struggling with his arm in the bullpen. Check, check the number. Number 33 down there. David Duncan was warming up. Lawhead into the wind up three one pitch to Peterson backs him out of there. Ball four. So a runner on with two men out. Kelly Peterson is the second walk given up by Lawhead. And to the plate comes Reed Seacrest. Sechrist was the first to walk, then reached on the drop to fly ball actually dropped four times before it finally hit the ground. Sechrest scored on the Lost in the sky double by Mark Roberts who scored the only run today. So he's 0 for 1. Man on, man up call strike at the knees. Sechrest oh one counts. Law had trying to work on the left handed hitting. Secrest. Sechrest looks like he's closed his stance just slightly from these first time up. Oh one pitch. Curveball bounced out in front of the plate and Gibbs kept it right in front of the plate. One ball count, one ball, one strike. Duncan warming up six two right hander from Tecumseh, Indiana. Most of the young men from Wabash Valley and Mount Carmel, Illinois are from Indiana. Very few Illinois ballplayers. A few from Kentucky into the stretch. 11 pitch backs him out of their ball too. Just looking at the roster, Kentucky, Indiana, Indiana and let's see if we have any Illinois, Savannah, Johnstown or Savannah. Johnson, Georgia. Couldn't be Johnson just in Savannah. There's something else down there with 21 count coming up to Sechrest. Outside ball 3, 31 count, Mark Roberts on deck. So nobody from Illinois. Everybody's from across the river in Indiana. Booneville, Evansville, Indianapolis, North, Davies, Terry. Hello. And then a couple from Louisville, Kentucky. Let's see Louisville, Louisville, Owensboro. Near where my dad was born in western Kentucky. That's closer to Evansville and then Louisville, home of Florence Henderson, TV star, singer, actress. Owensboro, Kentucky into the stretch. Law head looks at first, comes to the plate, fouled off count goes to full. 3 balls, 2 strike count to Reed Sechrest and Mark Roberts on deck. Roberts is sharing the lead for RBIs in the tournament. Coming in now has the lead with his 8th RBI today. Shared it with George Day of Northeastern Oklahoma who also has seven RBIs but Roberts got all of his in one game yesterday. 32 pitch to Sechrest coming up. Timeout called. Peterson will be running and that may be advisedly with two men out in a full count. How well he can run is an iffy matter. The throw coming to first base trying to Keep him close. The tailwind will help once he turns second base with that pulled hamstring. No question about it, if he can make it that far. SECREST. 3, 2 pitch. Lyeth looks at first base on the 3, 2 pitch comes. There goes Peterson. Ball four. SECREST walks again, so Peterson will go to second base. Now we'll have the advantage of the tailwind for the next 90ft. Third walk on the day for Law Hit. This press box overhangs the stands of the football stadium too. So the backside of this press box is at the football stadium. Unless you're doing football and then it's the backside of the press box. It's towards the baseball stadium. Mark Roberts, two men on tying run now at the plate. Peterson on at second. Sechrest on it first. Roberts High with a fastball. Ball one. Roberts 2 for 2 today. Singled, stole a base, doubled on the windblown fly ball and got the RBI. So he's two for two. Eight RBIs in the tournament for Roberts, who had a very soft hitting first day. He has been ripping the ball mostly since. Two men on. Roberts at the plate. Low with the pitch. Ball two. Gibbs drops it, picks it up again. Two. Oh. Count to Mark Roberts now. The advantage to the hitter on deck, said Smith, who is really trying to get untracked in this tournament. Smith is 249 and I believe looking for his first RBI. Let's double check. Yep, Smith is looking for his first RBI of the tournament. Mark Roberts has been cleaning him off before Smith comes up. Grand slam home run yesterday and as far as I know, the only grand slam in the tournament that.
