Who is really trying to get on track in this tournament. Smith is 249 and I believe looking for his first RBI. Let's double check. Yep, Smith is looking for his first RBI of the tournament. Mark Roberts has been cleaning him off before Smith comes up. Grand slam home run yesterday and as far as I know, the only grand slam in the tournament thus far. Mark Roberts, 6 foot 4 Tatersville High School grad Tatersville has become a power in high school baseball, no question about it. Central Valley of Salt Lake Area 2 Man on 20 Pitch call strike at the knees 2 On count by bottom of the fifth inning 41 Wabash Valley out in front. That Lawhead who has been struggling apparently with arm or shoulder problems, but still has been throwing very well on the mound has gone all the way and shut down Dixie to held him to just one run. Two on pitch coming to the plate called strike on the corner. No question on that one. Roberts may argue, but that was no question. That was too good a pitch. 2, 2 pitch to Mark Roberts. Sid Smith on deck, some Dixie fans cheering, some Wabash fans on the far side cheering Law ahead and the Wabash team up and cheering. 2, 2 Pitch to Roberts hit on the ground into right field through the second baseman around third base. Peterson will be held up. Peterson diving back to third base will be thrown out. The gun from Mattinger to Gibbs back to the third baseman and Peterson is gunned down. And that's the way the fifth inning ends. No runs on one hit, two men left and at the end of five complete innings of play, it's 4 to 1. Dixie back in 60 seconds. Motorsports Land has the boat to make your summer memorable. Southern Utah's Sports Authority, Dixie's 890 KDXU back here at Stoker Stadium. On the scoreboard it says 4 to 2, but that was Kelly Peterson on second who was thrown out trying to round third. Secrest ended up stranded at second base, and so no run scored. Actually, they did have a run tacked on the board for Dixie, but Peterson was thrown out. From the right fielder to the catcher to the third baseman and Paul Mattinger, the right fielder, no question he has a gut. So it was no runs on one hit. Two men left on base. Dixie has stranded six so far. Now they're changing it as Peterson was the man thrown out should be four to one. Now the Wabash Valley fans notice that Jeff Gibbs, the man who had the assist on that last foot out. Peterson rounded third and with a full hamstring, just couldn't get back in time. He dived back into third base, but the rifle arm of Matager in right field started that one, threw it on the fly to Gibbs, and Gibbs fired to third base. So rather than have the bases loaded, suddenly Dixie is out of the. Out of the inning. Top of the sixth inning, Gibbs to lead things off at the triple. Ball one. The drive in the third run. Then Robertson, his courtesy runner, scored the fourth run. So Gibbs one for two and an RBI today. Jeff Gibbs, stocky catcher, one ball count outside. Ball two. Chad Erickson will face Gibbs and Mattinger and then Chris Mayfield, the third baseman, all three involved in that last play. Fitch makes give Skip. That's a 30 count. Erickson walked two ball players so far in this game. Both of them ended up scoring in the second inning on the first hit of the ball game three. Oh, count to Gibbs called strike three. One count. Wabash Valley saw a lead that they held most of the ball game evaporate against Brevard Sunday night. Next pitch low. Ball four on at first base is Gibbs. Let's see if we get our courtesy runner. Yes, here comes Scott Robertson again. So Robertson will be in running for Gibbs. Robertson a head taller. It looks like he's listed actually at six one, 190 pounds from Terre Haute, Indiana. So Robertson on at first base, running for Jeff Gibbs, who walked. That's number three base on balls for Chad Erickson. Mattinger one on, nobody out. Mattinger fakes the bunt. Ball one up high. So Erickson cannot afford the control problems. Erickson left hander, big left hander, looks at first base. Robertson on at first. Erickson comes to the plate, called ball two inside. Mattinger held that bat out there and pulled it back at the last minute. Four to one lead, Wabash Valley out in front of Dixie, the number 20 ranked team in the nation. On the year 52 and 18. They played a lot of ball games this year. Into the stretch, Erickson looks at first base, comes to first base. Big wind. Up to first base. And so easily back is Robertson. 41 lead, Wabash Valley over Dixie. Top of the sixth inning. Dixie has four more chances to get those three runs back. Erickson to the plate, throws the ball away. Wild pitch. On to second base is Robertson. Makes the big turn at second base. So wild pitch by Erickson makes it a 30 count on Mattinger. First wild pitch of the day. And in quickly to talk to Erickson is Mark Roberts, the team captain. Man in scoring position for Manninger. Chris Mayfield on deck, nobody out. Top of the sixth inning in Wabash Valley and a polite 4 to 1 lead. Now some action starting to stir in the bullpen for Dixie. Getting ready. Darren Earl down three one pitch called strike at the knees. Once again, it's a three one count and Chad Erickson has the way to come back. Darren Earle, young man from Hurricane High School, to start loosening up. Looking back at second base. The pitch ripped down the left field line around third bases. Robertson, he'll score off the wall. Leonelli picks it up, throws it into second base. Sliding in with a double is Mattinger. So Mattinger with his second double of the day. Second RBI of the day, and he is having a day. It's five to one, Wabash Valley. Robertson has scored for the second time. Still a man on a second base. Nobody out. Chris Mayfield at third. Gordon Jolly talking with first baseman Mark Tolbert about something. Also going down to warm up Paul Allen. Allen and Sterling Harris. So Allen, who threw the ball game yesterday, appeared in the first game, is going to loosen up a little, too. Dixie with a 5:1 deficit in Wabash Valley, hitting the ball well today. Chad Erickson has had some outstanding innings, but there have been three. Now the Wabash Valley has scored it. First pitch called strike. Smith comes down to second base, back in as Mattinger sliding. So called strike on Chris Mayfield. Tom Waits on deck. Erickson trying to work his way out of this inning. Chad erickson. Trying to keep Dixie close, keep Wabash Valley from running away. Breaking pitch call strike. Little delay call by umpire Randy Frederickson. But it's owing to now to Chris Mayfield. Five to one. That's Wabash Valley scored here in the top of the sixth inning. So we mentioned. The loser packs it up and comes home. The winner lingers for another day. Erickson looks back at second base, comes to the plate. Breaking pitch. Excuse me. Swing. Erickson gets it. He'll tag the run. The batter moving on to third base is Matager. Got a good jump off of second base, so Mayfield out. Pitcher unassisted on the ground ball as Erickson took care of it. That's one out. Man on third now as Mattinger moved on to third. Gordon Jolly up following instructions. See if he brings the infield in. Yes, he will. Bring him way in. Tom Waits at the plate. Waits has walked and has taken a called third strike. He's 0 for 1. The pitch. Swung on and miss it was in the dirt. Strike one. Waits dropped a fly ball. Misjudged a fly ball and he's anxious to do something worthwhile right now. Did score a run after his walk in the first inning. He's 0 for 1 now. One strike count. Breaking pitch, just misses outside. Ball one. One. One count. Chad Erickson winds and fires one. One pitch, just misses. Ball two. Erickson going into the full wind up with Mattinger on third. Mattinger, great assist. Has two doubles on the day, two RBIs. He's been one of the stars of this day, no question. Pitch line to right field. Back goes Murray. Can he catch up with it? No, it's over his head. Manninger will score easily. On to second base is Waits. Murray boxes it out there, comes in, hits Roberts, but it's into third base. Waits question is, will it be a double or a triple? Will it be a double and an error or a triple? It's definitely a base hit and waits gets the RBI. It's 6 to 1, Wabash Valley and Gordon Jolly, I think, is going to change. It looks like it will be rule the triple by Tom Waits. I don't see any changes there. Gordon Jolly talking with Frederickson right now. Chad Erickson. Will come out and Mark Tolbert will go into pitch. Tolbert will pitch. Let's take a 60 second break. We're midway through the sixth inning. One man out, two runs in so far and it's Wabash Valley six, Dixie one. Back in 60 seconds. There are great savings at Sprouse this week on Nintendo and Nintendo games. Southern Utah's Sports Authority Dixie's 890 KDXU the infield will remain in Mark Tolbert will move into pitch now and Tolbert will take over. The man on third base. Tom Waits belongs to Erickson. Tolbert will go to the mound, Erickson will move to first base and the infield will stay in Darren Barton, Left handed hitting first baseman has a triple to his credit today. First pitch, breaking pitch, misses ball one to Tolbert who threw 165 pitches Saturday in now to try to stop the flood to pitch, chop down the first baseline foul. One man out, two runs of scored, a walk, a double, a triple. Wabash Valley with six hits on the day, Erickson was six have given up six runs also so it's six to one Wabash Valley one. One pitch coming up to Barton. Ball two outside. Smith held that mitt right there for a while trying to get the call from Frederickson. Did not Dixie. It's do or die time now. Pitch by Tolbert inside ball three and Tolbert. Working on the mound for the second time in this series into the stretch. Three one count on Barton. One man out. The pitch lined off the pitchers mound into center field. The run will score, make it seven to one and Barton has the base hit and the RBI. So make that three RBIs on the day for Barton. Waite scores easily. Tolbert just could not get the glove down fast enough. Hit hard, back up the middle. Three runs in and that one will count to Erickson. That one counts to Erickson. First pitch to Barkett is a called strike. Still only one man out. A man on first. Top of the sixth inning, seven to one lead. Dixie has a big way, a big lead to overcome now. Ball hit into left field, back Is Leonelli drifting now, veering to the left and grabs it. Two men out. Got up into that jet stream and hung coming from right field. Two men out and Brad Mackie was 0 for 3 today. Has gone to the right side each time. Popped out to the second baseman, flied to the right fielder and fouled out to the first baseman. Tolbert into the stretch, Looks over first base, comes to the plate. Breaking pitch in the dirt. So Maxey takes ball one. Wabash Valley exploding for three runs here in the top of the sixth inning to make it seven to one. Dixit over it, into the stretch, Looks at first, comes to the plate. Fastball hit over the first baseman's head, but it drops. Erickson actually had a shot at it, leaped and it went over his outstretched glove and then just drifted foul. So it's a foul ball One ball one. Strike count. Erickson still feels he had a shot at grabbing that in the air. It was in fair territory as it went over first base, but it didn't touch ground until it was in foul territory. Beyond the skin part of the infield. 11 pitch to Maxey. Breaking pitch. Up high. Ball two. Tolbert not unleashing the fastball. His arm has to be a little tired from Saturday still. Darren Earl still warming up in the bullpen. Into the stretch. Tolbert to the plate. Fastball way high. Ball three. Three, one count. Mark Tolbert from Tatersville. We mentioned he's being recruited by Mesa State here in Grand Junction, Colorado. Also, the University of Utah has shown some interest in him. At least that's the work. Tolbert into the stretch, looks over at first base, comes to the plate. Fastball swung on and missed. And Maxey had no hope of coming up with that one. Three, two count. Two men out. Obviously Barton will be running. Three, two count to Brad Maxey. Biggsy wants to end this inning right here and see if their bats could ever get unleashed against Lawhead. Into the stretch. Tolbert running his. Barton, the pitch up high. Ball four. Some men on it, first and second as Tolbert gives up the RBI single and gives up the base. On balls. Darren Lyneham, who has won for three on the day. A double and a run scored. Allen is going down to get loose again. Also two men on, seven to one. Wabash Valley leads and the number two hitter, Lineham, takes a high fastball. Ball one. Spelled just like Jim Lynam. He used to be the coach of the San Diego Clippers. I guess he is still the coach, isn't he? Replaced Gene Shu. The pitch. Outside, ball two. Fit. Smith wants to settle Tolbert down. Tolbert played first base throughout this, this ball game until just now. Brad Maxey down at first base. Over at second base, Darren Barton for Wabash Valley. Seven to one. Wabash Valley with the lead, top of the sixth inning. The pitch. Fastball. Foul off of umpire's mask. Strike one. Two ball one. Strike count. Wabash Valley. The warriors came out swinging today. Hit well against Brevard of Florida the other day. Scored six runs against them. Have seven runs here. It's a loose group of kids. They're just enjoying life right now. The pitch. Fastball lifted, foul down the third base line. The wind will catch that one and carry it out to North Avenue. Wow. Talk about the strength of the wind. That looked like it might be in the stands and ends up halfway to downtown. Two, two count to Darren Lynam. John Smith, the leading hitter on the year for Wabash Valley. On deck. Tolbert. Two men on, two men out. Trying to wrap it up here. Breaking pitch. Swung on and missed. Strike three. So three run score on a total of 1, 2, 3 hits. Two men are left on base by Wabash Valley. And at the end of five and a half innings of play, it's Wabash Valley seven. Dixie one back in 60 seconds. Right now is the time to buy a new GMC truck from Newby Buick. Dixie has 12 outs left to salvage this season and extended at least one more Day right now, Wabash Valley on top, seven to one. Round three, consolation bracket. The Junior College World Series. National Junior College World Series, the 32nd annual edition. I understand the first year it was played in Miami, Oklahoma, and since then it's been here in Grand Junction, Colorado. Similar to what happened with the basketball championship. I think it was in Springfield, Illinois, the first year. And then went to Hutchinson, Kansas. Outside to Sid Smith. Smith to lead it off. Then Tolbert and Troy Murray. One ball count to Sid Smith. Next pitch, foul straight back, Sid Smith. One ball, one strike out. Sid O for two today. Took a call. Third strike earlier in the game. Lawhead has gone all the way. Has battled what seems to be arm or shoulder problems, but has thrown hard and has thrown well. Has a 71 lead. The pitch, low ball, Tolbert on deck. Dixie has been known as a comeback team. They've had to do it all the time and all throughout this postseason play. And almost pulled off the upset yesterday. Called strike at the knees. Two ball, two, strike out. Law hit pitching very well. Wink Law hit. Kind of lost in the shadows of Shannon Sherman, their ace pitcher. Breaking pitch, lifted foul down the left field line and out of the park. Smith pulled it right down the line, but adrifted. Foul but gone close to being his 10th home run of the year. Sid Smith, the freshman defensive back, catcher combination. First team all conference at each case. 22 pitch outside, ball three. Gibbs had to jump after that. One way outside, right handed, hitting Sid Smith. 7 to 1. Wabash Valley with the lead. 32 count on the leadoff hitter, Sid Smith. Law head pitches, holds up. Do they call it? Yes, they do. They say it's skipped off the bat. It's a foul tip into the catcher, Smith. Smith tried to hold up. Strike three. One out. Second strike out of the day for Smith. Fifth of the afternoon for Lihead as the pitcher. So one man out and Mark Tolbert to the plate. Tolbert reached on an errand, popped to the second baseman. So he's over two today. Now in his pitcher instead of first base. Colbert picked up a win in the first game. Seven and four. L head to the plate. The pitch. Hit right up the middle. Shortstop comes up with it. Line him, guns him out at first base. Two men out and Dixie very quiet with the bat this afternoon. Troy Murray. Dixie has been held to four hits and we're on the bottom of the sixth inning. Troy Murray, right handed hitter, clean right field. When Corey Meredith was thrown out of the ball game for arguing a call at first base, Leonelli moved To left field and Murray moved into right field. Two men out. First pitch outside. Ball one. Murray 0 for 1. Grounded out to the pitcher. His first time up and down at the end of the bat. Pitch. Swung on. A miss. Strike one. One ball one. Strike count to Troy Murray. It's been a great season for the Dixie College. Rebels are trying to extend it, but they haven't developed a comeback yet. Fastball lifted into right field. Here comes Mattinger on the run. Will he get to it? Yes. Lighting gets the out on the fly ball. So the third out to retire the side. Three up, three down. At the end of six innings, it's Wabash Valley seven, Dixie one. Back in 60 seconds at tri State Office Supply. Taking care of business means taking care of you. The business team at Tri State excels in Kuwait. Inventories, stocking items you didn't even know you needed until you discovered they existed. If the need exists, Tri State has it for you. 36 East Tabernacle is the address. But it's only the starting point as expansion of services continue. Tri State Office team. See how far he can go after pitching all but the last inning against Monroe. Going nine innings against Monroe on Saturday. Mark Tolbert, first pitch. Breaking pitch low. Looked almost like a palm ball. Ball one. Loan outside. Tolbert. One zero pitch to Gibbs. Just misses outside. Ball two. Two zero count to Gibbs. On deck is Paul Mattinger. Mattinger is definitely one of the heroes defensively and offensively today. Pitch fouled off the fifth. Straight back drifting out of play. Two ball one. Strikeout on Gibbs. Jeff Gibbs set an outstanding tournament. Outstanding year for Wabash Valley. Apparently looking at his bat. There's something on the bat. Checking with the umpire right now. I guess he needs to make the switch. I'm not sure exactly what took place or what happened with the bat, but Gibbs is looking for another bat right now. It may be something on the end, the rubber end of the bat or that rubber coating right at the end of the bat. May be a problem. Give me one with hits in it. He's looking over there right now at Gibbs, trying to point to one that looks proper. You have to go by the feel of things. Let the vibes of the bat cut his seat. Send out whatever base hits are available to you and they grab that bat. Is that the one he wants? Checking it out. Looks at the end. Feels. Trying to sense the karma of the bat. Looks again. I guess that one's okay. Anyway, Gibbs is ready to go at it again. Two to one. Two and one count going down. To get a little warm up action for Dixie. Now let's double check. It looks like it'll be Reed Sechrest. No correction. Kelly Peterson is down there with Scott Williams. Next pitch. Ball three. Three. One count coming up. Milling around in the Dixie bullpen, but nobody throwing yet. High fastball swung on, a missed strike. Two up around the chin level. But Gibbs had an ocean and never caught up with it. Three two pitch coming up to Jeff Gibbs. One man out. Top of the seventh inning. Scheduled nine inning ball game. Colbert winds and fires outside. Ball four. Tolbert walks his second batter of the day. Gibbs for the second time today, walks. And once again Scott Robertson in to be the courtesy runner. Paul Mattinger had to play Matinger. As we mentioned, he has been double tough. He began that throw to the plate on the single to right field. Throw to the plate. Gibson completed the throw onto third base to nab Kelly Peterson and saved the second run. Breaking pitch called strike to Mattinger. Grounded out to the shortstop his first time up and then had consecutive doubles. So he's 2 for 3, 2 RBI, scored a run. Last inning. Tolbert throws over to first base. Back easily is Robertson. Mayfield on deck. Top of the seventh inning. Dixie trying to keep the baseball season alive. One of seven remaining. Faking the start was Robertson. The pitch low and behind. Now Robertson gets up to throw on through the glove of Roberts. With backing him up is Page. Let's see how they rule that. Think they'll rule that possibly as a pass ball. The pitch behind the batter. Robertson started, then held up. I think they'll call that one as a pass ball. We'll wait and see. Because it went off the glove of Smith. The pitch just misses inside two. Ball one. Strike count to Mattinger. Mark Tolbert threw a lot of pitches Saturday against Monroe. Looks back at second base, comes to the plate. Two one pitch. Swung on. A miss. Strike two. Maniger tried to swing hard against that high, hard one. Colbert just threw heat that time. Two two counts. Coming up to Matinger. One man out. Man in scoring position. That's Scott Robertson. Top of the seventh inning. Tolbert to the plate. Breaking pitch, chopped right in front of the mound. Smith up, ready to fire to first base. Does so. Moving on to third is Robertson. Now an even better scoring position. But outcatcher to the first baseman is Mattinger. Two down and Chris Mayfield coming to the plate. Kind of tough to judge because Mattinger takes that full swing and then just chops it. Not more than five feet in front of the plate. You take that big swing and don't get much of it. It kind of takes everyone out, including the batter Chris Mayfield has walked lined to. The second baseman takes a called strike and grounded to the pitcher Chad Erickson at that time who tagged him at on the way to first base. So he's over two pitch off the fifth straight out. Mark Tolbert wants it at the mound. Waved off by Scott Anderson and Anderson comes in and gets it. That ends the inning. So no runs, no hits a batter last and at the end of six and a half innings of play, it's Wabash Valley seven, Dixie one back in 60 seconds. Harmon's has an excellent variety and selection for your family needs. Motorsports Land help you get away? Motor Sportsland has the boat to make your summer memorable. You're listening to Dixie's 890KDXU St. George, Southern Utah's news authority. Going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Dixie still trying to mount a comeback. It's interesting because they're probably, I guess you could say there really been three exciting games in this tournament and these two teams have been involved in those three. And this has become kind of a whole hummer right now between these two. Dixie beating Monroe in the only extra inning game of the tournament on Saturday and then the then Wabash Valley losing to Brevard in a great come from behind victory by the Florida team Sunday night in the highlight of this Sunday schedule. Then yesterday Dixie giving San Jacinto north everything but a loss as they lost 11 to 10 yesterday. First pitch to Scott Anderson, strike one. Anderson is singled and struck out. So he's 1 for 2 today. Law had whatever kink was in his shoulder or in his elbow or in his upper arm apparently is out. Now. He isn't wiggling that arm nearly as Much as he did earlier. Still his four hit Dixie Lawhead, the freshman left hander. The story today for Wabash Valley. One strike pitch breaking pitch up high. One one count to Anderson. Mike Page on deck. Then we go to the top of the order. Chris Leonelli. Bottom of the seventh inning. Dixie trying to get something started. There's six runs down the pitch chopped at the plate. Fouled at the plate. Foul stepping hit Anderson in the right shoulder. Scott Anderson does not hit that well this year. 154, but started to come on later in the year. He's been swinging the bat fairly well of late and is 1 for 2 today. Obviously as for a sophomore, wanted to play more this year. But Kelly Peterson with the red hot bat ended up stepping into that third base position. The pitch lined on the ground, picked up by the third baseman. Dropped by the third baseman. Picks it up again, pulls the runner off the bag. Probably go as an error. Scott Anderson reaches second error of the day for the third baseman Mayfield. Three errors on the day for Wabash Valley. Dixie yet to commit one and that's kind of a switch. Dixie had five in the first game and six yesterday. So a man on to begin the seventh inning. Mike Page at the plate. Page has grounded to the second baseman twice and accounted for three outs. First time a double play. Roberts was the or. Paige was the back end of that double play. The third out to retire the side called strike at the knees on the fastball on at first base. Scott Anderson, Mike Page from Bingham High School. And there was Salt Lake Valley area short lead off by Anderson. Mahat's coming to the first base. Anyway, first baseman Darren Barton has had to reach a couple of times today. Still hasn't been able to come up with a couple of those throws. Mayfield has not been that solid with his throws from third base. Strong but not accurate pitch. Just misses low. Ball one One ball one. Strike count. Leonelli on deck. Dixie. Six runs to overcome to tie this ball gate trying to keep alive in this tournament. If they come back, they'll play tomorrow at three against the loser out at Brevard and San Jacinto north later this evening on a first base Anderson. The pitch line down the left field line. Foul ricochets off the auxiliary bleachers. Page got out in front of it, but a little bit too much. Page on the ear average wise at 309 is has drilled seven home runs on the air. Has a little more power than people expect. Little stronger through the upper body than you expect for a second baseman. One Two count to Mike Page. Lawhead sailing along with a four hitter, but has a runner on to lead off the bottom of the seventh. The pitch. Curveball just misses. Just misses. Both Gibbs and Law had wanted that one, two ball, two strike count. Page started and held up big. See trying to get it going. Chad Erickson as he moves to first base, will have to move in as a hitter instead. That takes Kelly Peterson out of that DH position. Fastball line just foul. Just outside of the line at third base. Look like it kicked up some chalk and that's what the fans are complaining about. They thought it was fair. If it kicks up the chalk, if it hits the the line, it's a fair ball. Misnomer should be a fair line, right? Instead of a foul line. Looked like it kicked up some chalk. With the umpire standing at home plate says, no, that's dirt on the other side. So the count holds the two balls. Two strikes. Page could have run for a while on that one. Law ahead. Little bullpen action starting again for Wabash Valley. Anderson on it first. Coming to first base is Law ahead with the throw. Once again, David Duncan up in the bullpen. Law had the Louisville Kentuckian, one of two Louisville natives on the on the roster. Anderson at first base. Law had to the plate with a two two pitch up high. Count goes full, you down seven to one. Do you want to send the runner too many, too many runs down to start experimenting too much, you would think. Or do you try to stir things up? Slaw hit. Anderson is not going foul tipped into the catcher's mid strike three. So Law had picks up his sixth strikeout instead. That's out, number one, bottom of the seventh inning. Chris Leonelli to the plate. Was the first strikeout victim of wahead on the day and has flied to the left fielder and fly to the right fielder since then. 0 for 3 today. Dixie's very quiet with the bats. Only four hits on the day and three of them belong to Mark Roberts. Leonelli up the middle ground ball backhanded by the second baseman, gets the out at second base. Beautiful play on his stomach. The second baseman flipped back to the shortstop lineup. But give the credit on that one to Brad Maxey. Maxey stopped what would have been a base hit instead of fielder's choice the hard way. And Anderson erased second baseman to the shortstop. Chad Erickson now will have to bat as the first baseman. And the designated hitter is out. That's Kelly Peterson. So Peterson over three today and Chad Erickson now the new hitter. Erickson Starting pitcher on the day now at first base, right handed, hitting left handed, throwing first baseman, two men out. Takes a strike at the knees. Erickson has struggled in this tournament. Did score a run, but is 0 for 7. Erickson, two men out. A man on. Leonelli on at first base. The pitch swung on high chopper to the shortstop. Backhanded, was trying to go to first base. It'll be an infield single. No, no hope so. Erickson gets his first into the tournament. Leonelli easily into second base. Two men on, two men out. And Reed Sechrest coming to the plate. Lawhead, great effort by Lineam. Went deep into the hole. It came up throwing through high, but that'll have to go as it. That's the fifth base hit of the day on Erickson. Erickson with his first hit of the tournament. Reed Sechrest. Sechrest has found a way to get a board, but he's over one. The one time that he got on board without a walk, he eventually scored, scored the only run. So he's over one today with two walks. Man on second and first. First pitch, ball one to Secrest. Mark Roberts on deck. Roberts, who owns three of the five hits. Double two singles on the day for Robert Secrest. I'd like nothing better than to get a base hit right now. Secrest. It was 2 for 8 coming into this game. Now 2 for 9 in the tournament. Good hitter, normally on the air. Secrest, a.391 hitter, is second, second high man on average at the end of the first 40 games of the season. Erickson being chased back to first base. Timeout called by the umpire at home plate. Catcher wants to go out and talk with the pitcher. Bottom of the seventh inning, 7 1. Wabash Valley with the lead, trying to eliminate the Dixie College Rebels in their first ever tournament. Dixie tried to do the same for Wabash Valley in its first ever time in this tournament. Wabash Valley comes in as one of four ranked teams at the end of the season. It's amazing to me how the rankings never match up with a final championship tournament that well. Into the stretch, Law head looks back at Leonel. He looks at Erickson, comes to the play. Fastball at the knee. Strike one. One ball one, strike out. And Ericsson. Sechris a little upset with that call. He's talking to Randy Frederickson right now. Secrest, he's upset. Thought then that that one was a ball. Still shaking his head. Fans a little upset with that coaching staff trying to keep Dixie in control right now. Corey Meredith has already been thrown out of this game. Next pitch. Call strike two on the breaking pitch. And Sechrest still a little frustrated. Gordon jolly angry in the third base coaching box. Loses his hat. Wants to talk to. Hollering at Secrest right now to calm down and get the hit. Sechrest frustrated. One ball two strike count. Dixie. Bottom of the seventh inning. In baseball there's always enough time. Question is, is there enough? Are there enough base hits? So one nice thing about baseball, it's also the one most frustrating thing about baseball. If you're on the top side of a score, you have to get all of the outs. The pitch low. Ball two. Two ball two, strike out. SECRE's trying to keep it alive to see if he can drive the ball some way. On his second base is Leonelli. Leonelli should be able to score on any good solid base hit. Erickson on at first base. He can run fairly well for a big guy. Although Dixie's not blessed with overpowering speed, they have adequate 22 pitch fisted down the left field line. Foul high. High foul ball count holds. Two balls, two strikes. Reed Seacrest. His parents made the trip from the bountiful area of Utah just north of Salt Lake City to watch Reed play. They've traveled around a lot to watch him play this year. Freshman outstanding athlete at Beaumont High School. Started at Davis and then transferred to Viewmont. Two two count line deep to left to right center field. That will clear the bases off the fence. Secrest on his way to second base. He'll hold up at second, hesitate, he'll stay at second. Thought he might have a shot at third, but that's a two run double for Reed. Secret got his pitch and drove it one bounce off the right center field wall. Two runs in, Leonelli scores. Chad Erickson scores. And suddenly it's a 73 ball game. Can they do it? They've done it before on the comeback. Two RBIs for Reed. Secrest. And that finishes it for loss for Lawhead. New pitcher coming in will be David Duncan. Secrest talking to the base umpire about something. I'm not sure what he's talking about. He's still a little frustrated out there. Frustrated about something. Maybe arguing on a Bach call. He looks like he's talking about the. What's happening with. What was happening with the pitcher out there. Sechrest, who is also the number four pitcher, is explaining his point with arm gestures also. And the base umpire now talking back. It looks like. It looks like a. Not an argumentative conversation, but a distinctive conversation. There's one that's going on at second base. While Duncan is warming up, let's take a brief 30 second break midway through the bottom of the seventh inning, 7 to 3. Now Wabash Valley out in front, back in 30 seconds. There are great savings at Sprouse this week on Nintendo and Nintendo games. Right now Nintendo is only $99.97. That's the lowest price ever offered. The kids will enjoy hours of summer fun with Nintendo, so stop by sprouse in the St. George Commercial center and enjoy the great savings on Nintendo and Nintendo games. Southern Utah's Sports Authority Dixie's 890 KDXU back at Stoker Stadium. Lawhead finishes with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 strikeouts on the day. Block 3 gave up 3 runs and 6 hits, but none of the runs are earned because of the error earlier. Mark Roberts now will face David Duncan. Duncan in replacing Law ahead and Law had got quite a round of applause and congratulations from his teammates as he reached the dugout 7 to 3. Now Wabash Valley out in front. David Duncan will face Mark Roberts. Roberts takes a ball outside Roberts three four three today has eight RBIs in the last two ball games, seven yesterday and had the first RBI today on a misjudged fly ball double one ball count driven to left field holding up. Will it go over the fence? Yes. Home run Mark Roberts. Roberts Golf that went over the left field fence. And Roberts go greets Duncan with a two run homer. And suddenly at the seven to five ball game, Reed Secre scores. Roberts scores and Roberts out in front in the RBI derby here in the National Junior College World Series as Dixie has played it. Four runs here in the bottom of the seventh inning. And here we go, Jeff Gibbs looking over at Dixie apparently. I'm not sure if one of the Dixie kids sent something to Gibbs or not, but Gibbs staring at Dixie. One run will count to Duncan. That's Roberts. The other one counts to Lawhead. So Duncan comes in and in relief gives up the two run homer to Mark Roberts. Roberts four for four on the day. Sid Smith at the plate. Nobody or two men out. Nobody on first pitcher strike. Dixie. Four runs here and the bottom of the seventh inning is back in this ball game seven to five. Wabash Valley out in front of Dixie. Dixie trying to live to play again. Pitch low in the dirt. Ball one. Strike one. Now what do you do with the pitchers pitching staff? Also you stay with Tolbert. He's pitched a lot of innings so far. 11 pitch bounced in the dirt. The fastball overthrown by Duncan, speared by Gibbs on the bounce. Sid Smith at the plate. Mark Tolbert on deck. Two men out. Bases clean. Now after the two run homer by Roberts, the pitch by Duncan called strike at the knees. Two two counts. And this may yet turn out to be an exciting game. Before it's all over, we'll wait and see. Seven to five Dixie. Four runs here in the seventh. Back in this game, Duncan. Two two pitch. Just misses outside. Ball three. Full count to Sid Smith. Tolbert on deck. Mark Roberts with his 14th home run of the year. Following a double by Reed's. A two run double by Sechrist. A two run homer by Roberts. Boom boom. Three two. Page swung on. A miss. Strike three. And for the third time today, Sid Smith goes down. Swing it. Goes down on a strikeout. End of seven. Dixie picks up four runs on 1, 2, 3 hits. Does not strand anybody. And at the end of seven innings to play, it's Wabash Valley seven, Dixie five. Back in 60. Have you picked up your own Club Mac card yet at McDonald's? If you haven't, you'd better hurry. Southern Utah's Sports Authority. Dixie's 890 KDXU back in to Stoker Stadium. Mark Tolbert will stay in on the pitching. Now let's see if we have any other changes. It looks like Barry Williams. Williams will go into right field replacing Troy Murray. So Barry Williams, normally a catcher, will be in replacing Murray and will be batting next inning. Let's check and see if we have any other changes. I see none other But Williams, number 27 in left field now. Mark Tolbert. The charge now is to hold Wabash Valley. Dixie has come back four runs worth in the bottom of the seventh. Has six more outs to deal with Jim Parrado looking down the line pointing someplace. I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm not sure if there's a problem with something reflecting towards the eyes of the third baseman or the left fielder. But Peranto, the third base umpire, coming over to one of the officials and paranoid, pointing down the line. Cochise. Cochise is gathered along the right field line, but on the fan side of the defense. I'm not sure what the problem is, but they were pointing in this direction. Mark. Mark Tolbert ready to do duty. Top of the eighth inning. Wabash Valley will send the bottom third of the order. Begin with Tom Waits, the left. We're having problems. We just lost the line with Larry Jewel. It was pretty bizarre. But we'll re establish communication and it's about the top of the eighth inning so we'll try and do it as quickly as possible here on kdxu. Hold on just one second. Sun Capital Bank Southern Utah's Sports Authority Dixie's 890 KDXIO. Back in Grand Junction, Colorado I assume I'm back here. We had a little problem with our with our telephone line suddenly dropped on it while you were gone. Tom Waits was called out on strikes on a strange, strange call. Two ball count to Darren Barton is what looked to be a balls recount according to the umpire skipped by the catcher Sid Smith. He went back and retrieved it. Then after the timeout and the ball was thrown back to the pitcher, they appealed at first base and the first base umpire said yes, he went around. So there is a strikeout for Mark Tolbert. False recount now three zero count to Barton called strike three one. Barton is two for three today. Grounded out to the first baseman who threw him out to the pitcher covering that was Tolbert to Erickson that time. He's been on base twice. Call strike two at the knees. And slowly but surely the Grand Junction crowd getting a little more on Dixie's side as it's going today. Dixie has made a comeback of sorts. Pitch chopped at the plate out in front. They say a foul ball count will hold three balls, two strikes. The wind definitely gusty and disgusting at the same time. It's been a challenge. Sunflowers leave flying everywhere. 32 count to Darren Barton. Barton has doubled and singled, has three RBIs on the day for the left handed hitting first baseman. Fastball hit deep to right field. That one's carrying. It's drifting towards left center now a right center and secrest. It looked like it may carry except for the wind and Sechrest easily, easily caught up with it. It was headed deep to right field and the wind caught it. It pushed it towards right center and Sechrest had an easy catch by the time it was all over but it looked like Barton had put gotten pretty good metal on that one. Yes, they are metal bats here. Kevin Barkett Designated hitter. Two men out, nobody on top of the eighth inning. Wabash Valley 7 Dixie 5. The pitch to Burkitt or Barkett. Call strike. Colbert has struck out two in his brief time in relief. 7 to 5 the lead for Wabash Valley. Dixie trying to keep alive the pitch. Breaking pitch way in the dirt. 42 foot curveball that time. No, I'm not quite that short but he did throw it in the dirt in front of the plate. One one pitch. That one goes high wild the other way. Colbert throwing darts in a windstorm right now up high down low. Did get one. Strike two. One count coming up to Barkitt the designated hitter. The pitch hit on the ground hard clipped by Scott Anderson throws him out of first base. Great defensive play today by Scott Anderson that ends the inning. Three up, three down at the end of seven and a half innies of play. Wabash Valley seven Dixie five back in 60. See the business team because we all make mistakes. It's a case of survival for both teams right now. You. You just don't have a tomorrow as they say. And because of that, the ace of the Wabash Valley staff, Shannon Sherman is back on there. Sherman, who went almost all the way Sunday, picked up his first loss 15 and one on the year, is in and release now trying to get the save replacing Duncan. So the third pitcher of the day for Wabash Valley, Sherman Stocky right handed pitcher filled a little along the lines of Andy Messersmith who remember if anybody remembers Messersmith, Hill Dodger and Angel pitcher seven to five. Wabash Valley with the two run lead. Dixie to begin things. We'll begin with Mark Tolbert, the opposing pitcher. Tolbert 0 for 3 today, really has not had that great a hitting tournament. Although he had two doubles yesterday. Did have the game winning RBI in going 0 for 5 the first day. So still trying to get really on track. Did have the back to back doubles that looked like things were going to go well for him there for a while. Sherman strike called. Tolbert started to back away. So that fastball must be moving. Second pitch just misses low ball one one strike one. One count, bottom of the eighth inning. Dixie has six outs to get two runs to keep even with Wabash Valley. Three runs to win it. Pitch tipped feet to left field, 19th home run of the year. Just ripped out of the air right down the line. And Mark Tolbert put a charge in that one. That was boom boom right out of here. Second home run and Dixie in the last two innings has done the job. Suddenly the bats which were dead early are alive now. And first baseman Darren Barton trying to rally the troops troops. It's a seven to six ball game, nobody out, nobody on. And Barry Williams to the plate for the first time today. Barry Williams, the only non Utahn on this team, swung on and foul tipped into the catcher's mid strike one. Williams. Williams from Idaho Falls or I should say from Twin Falls, home of College of Southern Idaho, former national champs, chose to come to Dixie instead. One strike pitch to Williams. Low ball one. One ball, one strike count. Dixie and Wabash Valley going all out. And what was a 7 to 1 ball game now is a 76 game in favor of Wabash Valley. Next pitch hit on the ground to the third baseman. Up and throwing and throwing high but putting the foot back down on first base is first baseman Barton. Once again it's Mayfield's had a tough day down there. So out five to three out number one on Williams or for Dixie. Williams in his first try. Scott Anderson to the plate now has reached on an error, has struck out and is single singled in his first time up and has played an outstanding third base. Dixie much better defensively today than they were in either of the first two games. And it's ironic that they're trailing this one as well as they played defensively. Shannon Sherman ball got away from pitcher in the bullpen for Wabash valley. Sherman won seven of the 10 games needed to get here. The of the 10 wins that were needed for Wabash Valley to get here. The pitch. Swung on, a miss. Strike one. Anderson went right after it. Mike Bage on deck. One man out. A run in on a home run by Tolbert. Dixie trying to rally and win, Trying to play another day. The pitch breaking Pitch up high. Ball one one ball one count one ball, one strikeout. Dixie, a little bit of the guts of the riverboat gambler. They feel like they always come back. Swung on a mission. Anderson behind the fastball that time. One two count. Feeling like they can always come back. They almost did it yesterday and save a few inches. Would have tied the score in the top of the ninth inning. Instead, secrest on two out situation. Running all the way from first base. Thrown out at the plate. Or Dixie might be playing tonight at 7:31 2 pitch to Anderson, lined into right field. Mattinger comes in, spam scrap. Mattinger on the line drive, gets out. Number two in right field. Mike Page coming to the plate, is struck out. Grounded out twice to the second baseman. The first time ended up in a double play. So he's over three. Page foul tipping one into the catcher's mitt. Last time. Oh for three today. Second baseman with two men out trying to start another rally. The pitch a 5, 01 on deck. Chris Leonelli, who's had a quiet day at the plate. Shannon Sherman, the ace of the staff for Wabash Valley in relief. Swung on. A miss. Strike one. One one count to Mike Sherman to the plate. Up high, way high. Two one count Dixie. Four out the way. They had to generate two runs to get the win. One run to get the tie. Four outs to do it. Foul, straight back. Will Gibbs have a chance? Starting to drift back and the wind took it right into the stands. Didn't think he had a chance initially and then had another thought. Corey Meredith, the starting left fielder, tossed out of the ball game in the second inning on the arguing a play at first base. That started a downhill slide for Dixie. But Dixie trying to grab themselves and pull back and get the win. Some heavy hitting in the last two innings has done it. Two, two count outside with the breaking pitch. Ball. Three counts full. Bingham. I graduated. Trying to get it going. 3, 2 pitch line down the left field line. Foul right against the auxiliary fence. Foul. So Sherman served up the fastball to Tolbert that was ripped over the left field wall. And Page just out in front of that one. Dixie trying to rally. Some fans are joining in Trying to cheer for Dixie. Fouled off to the right side. Then we'll drift out of that. Out of play count holes. It's something metal over there. Sounded like what? E sharp, F flat, whatever. G natural. One of those. Not a music teacher. Sorry about that. Three, two, count to pace. Fastball hit on the ground, deep into shortstop, into left field. Page with a base hit, his first of the day. The Dixie still alive and Chris Leonelli coming to the plate. Darren Lyneham, who's had some tough plays in the hole today, couldn't come up with that one as it bounced over his glove and into left field for the base hit. So Page on at first base, a run in, a runner on, two men out. And Chris Leonelli represents the go ahead. One run. Paige represents the tying run. Now, do you start putting any plays on? Do you have them stealing two men out or is it just playing station to station? You need to get the run in. Paige has some quickness leading off at first base. The throw over to first and Sherman serious about that one. Back in easily. Is Page warming up in the bullpen. Adrian Atkinson, the ace, left handed relief pitcher. He's starting to get hot in a hurry. Sherman into the stretch, looks back at first, comes to the plate, fouled off to the right side. Leonelli. Leonelli oh for four today. Struck out, flight out twice, Reached on the field his choice, and scored ahead of Reed Secrest. Double strike, one count to the right handed hitting now left fielder. Started in right field today when the musical position started. He was the first one to move from right field to left. Chokes up on the bat a little bit. Just wants to put the ball in play right now. The pitch hit down the third baseline. Foul. Folded just a little too much. Two strike count on Leonelli on deck. Chad Erickson. Peterson began the day as a designated hitter, but when Erickson was shifted to first base and Tolbert moved to the pitcher's mound, Erickson had to bat for himself and Peterson had to sit ever since. So Peterson finished with an 0 for 3 day after going 5 for 5 the first day, 3 for 6 the next. The pitch outside. Ball one, ball two. Strike count. Shannon Sherman, good easy motion. He's had to throw a lot of innings this year, A lot of innings, but has done it very well. The ace of the staff in relief for Wabash Valley, into the stretch. One, two count to Leonelli. Page on first to pitch. Swung on and missed. Strike three on the curveball that ends the eighth inning. Dixie pushes across the run on two hits. Leaves the runner and at the end of eight complete innings of play, it's Wabash Valley seven, Dixie six back in 60. Harmon's has an excellent variety and selection for your family needs. Wabash Valley trying to get some sort of cushion for Shannon Sherman to work with Dixie trying to hold them right here. They begin with the top of the order, Maxey line them and John Smith. Mark Tolbert who's been tough and relief. First pitch, strike at the knees. Maxey over three with a walk today, made an outstanding play on a ground ball up the middle. Saved a base hit earlier today. Maxey's played a solid second base. One ball one strikeout. Wabash Valley trying to keep the the lead. Next pitch outside. Ball two. Now it's starting to get the white knuckle flight time. Cochise and Iowa Western ready to do battle as soon as this game is over. 21 pitch hit on the ground up the middle. Mark Roberts can't get to it. It's a base hit into center field. So Maxey with a base hit to start things in the top of the ninth inning. Darren Lyneum coming to the plate. Lineham is one for four. Is Flight out twice, struck out, doubled and scored in the third inning. Line of has the only home run of the tournament for Wabash Valley. That one against Brevard of Florida. The pitch on the bunt. Did it hit him? The question did it hit him? Did it hit the helmet or did it hit the bat and it hit the helmet I believe. And so he's going to be on. Who is really trying to get on track in this tournament. Smith is 249 and I believe looking for his first RBI. Let's double check. Yep, Smith is looking for his first RVI of the tournament. Central Valley of Salt Lake Area 2 Man on 20 Pitch call strike at the knees 2 on count. Bottom of the 5th inning 41 Wabash Valley out in front. That lawhead who has been struggling apparently with arm or shoulder problems but still has been throwing very well on the mound has gone all the way and shut down Dixie to held him to just one run. Two on pitch coming to the plate called strike on the corner. No question on that one. Roberts may argue, but that was no question, that was too good a pitch. 2, 2 pitch to Mark Roberts. Sid Smith on deck, some Dixie fans cheering, some Wabash fans on the far side cheering Law ahead and the Wabash team up and cheering. 2, 2 Pitch to Roberts hit on the ground into right field through the second baseman around for third base. Peterson will be held up. Peterson diving back to third base will be thrown out. The gun from Mattinger to Gibbs, back to the third baseman and Peterson is gunned down. And that's the way the fifth inning ends. No runs on one hit, two men left and at the end of five complete innings of play, it's 4 to 1 Dixie back in 60 seconds. Harmon's has an excellent variety and selection for your family needs from the best in meats, poultry, seafoods and specialty cheeses in Harmon's meat department to toys, lights and decorations in the hardware department. Motorsports Land has the boat to make your summer memorable. Southern Utah's sports authority. Dixie's 890KDXU back here at Stoker Stadium. On the scoreboard it says 4 to 2, but that was Kelly Peterson on second who was thrown out trying to round third. Sechrest ended up stranded at second base and so no run scored. Actually, they did have a run tacked on the board for Dixie, but Peterson was thrown out. From the right fielder to the catcher to the third baseman and Paul Mattinger the right fielder, no question he has a gut. So it was no runs on one hit. Two men left on base. Dixie has stranded six so far. Now they're changing it as Peterson was the man thrown out should be four to one. Now the Wabash Valley fans notice that Jeff Gibbs, the man who had the assist on that last foot out. Peterson rounded third and with a pulled hamstring just couldn't get back in time. He dived back into third base, but the rifle arm of Batiger in right field started that one, threw it on the fly to Gibbs and Gibbs fired to third base. So rather than have the bases loaded, suddenly Dixie is out of the out of the inning. Top of the sixth inning, Gibbs to lead things off, had the triple ball one to drive in the third run. Then Robertson, his courtesy runner, scored the fourth run. So Gibbs 1 for 2 and an RBI today. Jeff Gibbs, stocky catcher, one ball count outside ball two. Chad Erickson will face Gibbs and Mattinger and then Chris Mayfield, the third baseman, all three involved in that last play. Fitch makes Gibbs Skip. That's a 30 count. Erickson walked two ballplayers so far in this game. Both of them ended up scoring in the second inning on the first hit of the ball game. 30 count to Gibbs called strike 31 count. Wabash Valley saw a lead that they held most of the ball game evaporated against Brevard Sunday night. Next pitch low ball four on at first base is Gibbs. See if we get our courtesy runner. Yes, here comes Scott Robertson again. So Robertson will be in running for Gibbs. Robertson a head taller, it looks like he's listed actually at 6:1, 190 pounds from Terry Haute, Indiana. So Robertson on at first base, running for Jeff Gibbs who walked. That's number three base on balls for Chad Erickson. Manninger one on, nobody out. Manninger fakes the bunt ball one up high. So Erickson cannot afford the control problems. Erickson left hander, big Left hander looks at first base. Robertson on at first. Harrison comes to the plate, called ball two inside. Big wind. Up to first base and so easily back as Robertson, 41 lead, Wabash Valley over Dixie. Top of the sixth inning. Dixie has four more chances to get those three runs back. Erickson to the plate, throws the ball away. Wild pitch onto second base is Robertson. The pitch ripped down the left field line. Around third base is Robertson. He'll score off the wall. Leonelli picks it up, throws it into second base. Sliding in with a double is Mattinger. So Mattinger with his second double of the day, second RBI of the day, and he is having a day. It's five to one, Wabash Valley. Robertson has scored for the second time. Still a man on a second base.
