This is the Intermountain Network's regional news roundup. Good evening from Denver. This is Earl Clayton reporting another discovery of illegal aliens in this area. Larry Jewell reports from Sydney, Nebraska. The Nebraska State Patrol this morning arrested four aliens from Mexico in West Sydney. All four have been residing in Cheyenne, Wyoming and working for the Union Pacific Railroad in track crews. All have been in the United States for at least a year. The four, Justino de la Torre, Salvador Gonzalez, Federico Andrade and Jesse Lopez, are apparently from the state of Corahuila, Mexico. Salvador Gonzalez has been in the United States for the past four years. All are being held in custody in the Sydney jail pending a decision on the case by federal authorities. For IMN News, Larry Jewell in ksid, Sydney. The track of the cat, that story and more. This is the Intermountain Network's regional news roundup. Good evening from Denver. This is Earl Slayton reporting. That proposed power plant in the Nebraska Panhandle has drawn fire. This report from Larry Jewell in Sydney, Nebraska. Sierra Club members in Nebraska are gathering their forces for the battle over the Nebraska Public Power District's Sutherland Power Plant. Despite the fact NPPD officials claim it is cleaner than any other plant its size. Spokesman for the Sierra Club said liars are being hired to work on the issue. And Sierra Club environmentalists from out of state will be making their own evaluations of the Sutherland plant. Construction on the $180 million plant is expected to begin next year or in 1974. And the facility is expected to be fully operational in 1975. NPPD officials pointed out that of the total amount, a full $36 million will be spent on anti pollution devices to meet national environmental standards, the officials say. With the controls, the 600 megawatt coal burning facility would emit about 1 or 2 tons of particulate waste daily, along with about 50 tons of sulfur dioxide and 35 tons of nitrogen oxide. For Intermountain Network News, this is Larry Jewell, KSID Sydney. The cab denies an airline merger. That story and more news in just a moment. Summer, that means hot. To Maddox Motors it means red hot. Cause during their summer final clearance, they're coming through with red hot deals on red hot cars like the 72 Plymouth Duster from Maddox Motors. Duster's the hottest selling Plymouth of them all. A joy to own because it's the compact that's big enough yet small enough and economical all over. But every 72 Duster has to go to make room for the 73s. So that means red hot prices for you. The best of the year. Now add the great trade in value you get for your present car from Maddox Motors and you've got yourself a deal that's sure to put more joy into your car buying. So don't let the heat of summer get to you. Let a red hot deal do it from the red hot dealer Maddox Motor Company 1403 Illinois. They've got red heart clearance buys on every 72 in stock. See Maddox Motors now you'll find out. His clearance prices are a pure joy. Just gotta be. Glass Headquarters this is KSID Continuing news on the state and local scene. The University of Nebraska at Omaha said today that an announcement by the Nebraska American Independent Party that it would hold its state convention at the university is not true. A spokesman for the university said a party representative attempted to arrange for space at the university this afternoon but was turned down by the University of Nebraska. The university spokesman said the attempt to arrange for space came after the party had notified some elements of the press that the university would be the site. The university said it turned down the request because the party is not a student group and not a university or faculty group. Party spokesmen have not been immediately available. A foster grandparent program unique in Nebraska is under study today for the mentally retarded children at the Beatrice State Home. Grants for the program totaling $115,000 are being reviewed by Governor Exon and his staff. More than $100,000 of the money would come from the federal government. Governor Exon said the program would be an ideal one because it would develop a mutually beneficial relationship with between the retarded children and low income senior citizens. Under the program, senior citizens would serve as foster grandparents to the children, many of whom have had no significant adult factor in their lives. A light plane crashed and burned upon landing at Lee Bird Field at North Platte today, but its three occupants escaped unharmed. Gary Trego, owner of Trago Aviation at the field, says the aircraft made a normal approach and there was no indication of trouble until flames broke out after it touched down. Airport employees tried in vain to put the fire out, but eventually North Platte fire units had to be called. The plane was destroyed. Identities of those aboard were not immediately known. The Nebraska Supreme Court has received the official mandates which set aside the death sentences for two convicted murderers in Nebraska. A spokesman for the Supreme Court says it is now up to the high court to decide actual procedures to be followed in the two cases. The mandates result from a US Supreme Court decision a month ago which held the death penalty unconstitutional on grounds it is cruel and unusual punishment. The two persons who had been facing the electric chair in Nebraska are Duane Earl Pope and Thomas Alvarez. Pope was convicted of murdering three persons in a Big Springs bank hold up in 1965 and Alvarez of the murder in Lincoln of Mrs. Mary O'. Shea. We'll have local news after this. See Sydney Ford Mercury Today, Sierra Club members in Nebraska are gathering their forces for the battle over the Nebraska Public Power District's Sutherland Power Plant, despite the fact the MPPD officials claim it is cleaner than any other plant its size, spokesman for the Sierra Club said. Lawyers are being hired to work on the issue, and Sierra Club environmentalists from out of state will be making their own evaluations of the Sutherland plant. Construction on the $180 million plant is expected to begin next year or in 1974, and the facility is expected to be fully operational in 1975. NPPD officials pointed out that of the total amount, a full $36 million will be spent on anti pollution devices and to meet national environmental standards. The officials say that with controls, the 600 megawatt coal burning facility would emit about 1 or 2 tons of particulate waste daily, along with about 50 tons of sulfur dioxide and 35 tons of nitrogen oxide, according to NPPD's environmental manager, Dr. Eric Sloth. That means roughly 99% control of particulate waste, he said. However, no controls are being built into the facility to handle the sulfur dioxide or the nitrogen oxide, he said. Nitrogen oxide emissions will be controlled through operational techniques, but sulfur removal techniques have only recently been developed and Sutherland's emissions are not large enough to warrant their use. The plant will burn about 300 tons of coal daily, and each ton will produce about 5% of a ton of ash. Three Sydney students are among entering freshmen at Chadron State College who have recently been awarded scholarships. Gregory Luce, Denise Ross and David Beyer will each receive a teacher Education Scholarship. The scholarships will pay half of the tuition costs for their four year college careers. A minor accident occurred Thursday afternoon on Illinois west of 12th Avenue when a car driven by Ellen Hruska scraped the parked car of Harold Hyde. Town and Country Market in South Sydney. My story start. Of the fifth inning, Sydney trailing four to three to Morrow and leading off the bottom half of the fifth inning. The top of the order right Handed hitting catcher Rick Britton, followed by second baseman Gene Lotus and shortstop Bob Shelrof. Britton so far tonight grounded out to the second baseman. His first time up and it struck out his last time up 0 for 2. And that is not a typical Rick Britton performance. And here comes the rain. Some more. Some more. Oh, he must have been doing that rain dance once again. Well, no, things are a little bit too confining. Okay, if you all say so. On the mound for Morrow tonight, and the pitcher with the lead is Jim Lowry, right handed pitcher. He played right field, I believe. Or was it left field? He played in the outfield in that last game. You're going to have to check, Al. Send you to the files. Bottom half of the fifth inning, 4 3. Morrow leading over Sydney. We're in Legion park in Sydney. First pitch by Lowry. Breaking pitch, hit on the ground to the right side of that infield, picked up by the first baseman. It's a foot race at first base and believe it or not, the first baseman beat Britton down there. So Rick Britton grounds out for the second time tonight and that's 0 for 3. And now we bring to the plate Gene Lotus. Lotus struck out his first time out and grounded out to the shortstop his last time out. Lotus has not really done much tonight neither. None of the first three batters has done much at all. In fact, none of the first four batters has done much. Brown didn't have as far to go as Britain did, but Britton almost beat him. Spoke too soon. Lined into right center field for a base hit. Lotus on his horse. He's around first base, trying to stretch it into a double. Here comes the throw. It's in time, but the shortstop drops it. So Lotus is in with the double. Give Gene Lotus a double. And that was almost too close for comfort. The throw was there in plenty of time. Bounced off the shortstop's arm out in front of him. So the shortstop, Brian Boddy, did not have control of it. And Lotus is in there with a slight. That was a close one, Al. We saw the same kind of thing happen, Larry, a week ago tonight, and I believe it was the same individual, Jim Lotus. Gene Lotus had a sure single, trying to stretch it into two. Sydney was behind and Gene tried to stretch it into two. The first base coach, which shall remain anonymous at this point in the conversation, sent him down to second and was thrown out to end a rally. Man on second base. One man out. First pitch to Showruff. Hit on the ground to the second baseman. Second baseman Zitikov off his glove into center field. Here comes Lotus. He trips around third. He's gonna score, though, standing up. Score tied up 4 to 4 on first base. Bobby Showruff off the glove. We're gonna have to see if that's gonna go as an error or a single base hit. The official scorer says, so give that man, Bobby Showruff an RBI as Gene Lotus scores to tie up this ballgame. One man on, one man out, one run in. And bringing to the plate is Scott Cornelius. Single and an RBI by Bobby Shorof. First hit of the night. Cornelius so far tonight was called out on strikes his first time up. Swung and missed at a third strike his last time up. We've got two doubles in the ball game so far, Larry. This is unusual for the Legion to hit two extra base hits in the same ball game. Maybe they're starting to round around a little bit. Maybe they're starting to get that bat flattened out in one particular spot to meet that ball a little bit. One man out. Man on first base, Bobby Schobra. First pitch to Cornelius. Pop foul behind the plate. Out of play. Strike one. One strike now on Scotty Cornelius. Scott tonight really has not had the good luck at the plate. He's been swinging and missing. He was called out on strikes his first time up. Swung and missed at the third strike his last time up. And now you're stepping on my mic cord. I gotta get out of the rain so I can read my book. You are gonna shrink, you know that? I didn't know you weren't Sanferized. Next pitch. Fastball misses inside. Ball one one. Ball one. Strike one. One count to third baseman Scott Cornelius. Cornelius, the starting pitcher tonight. One one count on Scotty Cornelius. Breaking pitch. Chased and fouled off Begley's hand and he's out shaking it. He's counting the knuckles. Does he have all five of them there goes. Well, yes, he does. He has a thumb. He has an index finger, a middle finger, a ring finger and a pinky. I guess he's to going got them all. But it still doesn't feel like it. No, that. That kind of smarts. When you get hit like that, how come you can get hit in the knee and it doesn't hurt you nearly as much as if you get smashed on that pinky? Well, because the knee is located farther from the brain. It takes the impulse to get to the brain that much longer. And by the time that it gets to the brain, it becomes deadened to the sense which it had when it originally started. Thank you Dr. Maple, how much does it call for that? For that explanation? Well, at least a nickel. For that. I give you seven cents and hope that you don't spend it all in one place. Okay. Scott Cornelius at the plate with a one two count on him. Didn't know you had it in, Yao. Oh, yeah. One two count on Cornelius. Man on first base. Bobby Shoreth. Breaking pitch, hit in the air. Foul down that left field line. Chased by third baseman and the left fielder Flint out there. No chance. He'd have to hop that chain and go past a few cars and over into the softball field to get that 112 count. It holds on Scott Cornelius. One man out, one run in, one man on first base. Lowry into the stretch, looks at Sho Riff at first base. Fastball call. Strike three. And that's three strikeouts against Scott Cornelius tonight. The first fifth strikeout by Jim Lowrey. Three of them have been cleanup hitter. Scott Cornelius. Two men away. Steve Runyon coming to the plate. Runyon so far tonight has fouled out to the third baseman and has walked and then was picked off of second base. First pitch to Runyon. Chased and missed fastball. Strike one. No balls. One strike now. And right handed hitting Steve Runyon. Runyon, now the pitcher he finds himself with, the chance to be the winning or losing pitcher is going to be his decision now. Game tied, 4 and 4. Fastball hit on the ground to the shortstop. Bode keeps that glove down, up and fires to first base. He's got him easily for the third out to retire the side. So in that inning, one run on, two base hits, one man left on base, no errors. And at the end of five complete innings of play, it's Morrell for Sydney. 4.
