In junior college history, at least this year. And one of the best bowl game matchups going right now. We have Mike McGarry with me, who will be doing color. Mark Crump will take care of our statistics today. Mike, first of all, you've been around Dixie with the football at the 23 yard line. First down and 10 with 1274 seconds is all that Neo had the football. The fifth turnover of the day. Back to pass, tighter to heart. Has some time. Has some time is starting to evaporate. Throws over the middle. It is going to be complete. Touchdown. Kendall Smith, Tyler to heart. Suddenly there was pressure on him after a long time of having to look out there. Any hill playing good defense in the backfield. But Kendall Smith found his way again. I think we need to give credit on both ends of that. Tyler Dehar did an excellent job of scrambling around in the backfield. Got down and his body looked downfield and then found his man Kendall Smith who had broken his pattern. He was supposed to go in the middle. He turned, went to the outside and was wide open for the reception and the td. Jeff Winch to try the point. After the snap. The kick is up and Winch nails it again. Make it 35 to 21. Dixie out in front. A minute 18 left in the third quarter. Back in 60 seconds. It's born of caring and promises to endure forever. Bill Hanson to do the kicking again. Hanson doing the kickoffs this time coming down to the 16 yard line taken there by Tim Lewis. And Lewis at the 26 yard line across the 30th, the 33 there. There's a flag right in front of Tim Lewis and the flag went down five yards before he got there. Yeah, making an indication of a clip up field and there comes the indication from the referee is clipping against Neo. So a clip coming up. So from the Neo 16 to the 32 and then the clip. So clip on top of that, march it back. It'll be first down and 10. Mark it at the 16 yard line of Northeastern Oklahoma. Now the last time Dixie took a two touchdown lead, Northeastern Oklahoma just knifed it through the butter and got the touchdown right back. Will it happen again? We have a minute 11 left in the third quarter of this fourth annual Sunbrook Dixie Rotary Bowl. I don't think there's any question this is the best matchup talent wise. Although we've had two out of the three games be most exciting coming right down to the wire. This is the best matchup talent wise, I think in the history of the bowl. Back to pass Jackie Hood quick pass goes to number three Dennis Ross who was nailed immediately by Kaylor Dally up across the near the 20 yard line. Let's see where they'll mark it at the 18 yard line. So gain of a couple of yards on the play. Dixie giving the short pass to Derek Ross put it at the northeastern 18 yard line. Second down about 8 yards to go. Oh correction, they'll mark it closer to the 20. Okay, one official put the football down at the 20 but when they finally placed it they put it at the 20 yard line. So make it second down, six yards to go. The cater Dally had pushed him back the other two yards. Two receivers left, high formation on the running backs. Pitch goes to the tailback. Lashawn Johnson is going to be nailed by Naomi Masi. Get the yard and Masi bent him in half. Thad to heart took out the blocker and Mossey got Lashawn Johnson. Nahumi Masi from South High School in Salt Lake City, a school that has closed down since he left and I don't know if that's any indication of what's happened up there. Put it right at the 20 yard line. They're going to keep it at the 20 yard line. No gain after all. So Lashawn Johnson knows no gain except by inches. Third down, six yards to go and that ends the third quarter. 35:21 Dixie out in front of we'll take a 60 second break and be back for the final stanza after this. We just had publicity man director for the Sunbrook Dixie Rotary Bowl Ed Rogers wander by and present us all with Sunbrook Dixie Rotary bowl hats. Beautiful ones. We appreciate that. High formation on the running backs, wide receivers on each side. 1 each pitch goes to the tailback. A little bit of an end around fumble on the play by Dennis Ross. Ross is going to jump on it at the 11 yard line. No, it's going to be recovered by Northeastern. Squirted away from Ross again and the man who came up with it, let's check, is number 10, Jackie Hood. So on an end around play, the pitch went to the tailback who then handed it to Derek Ross. Ross fumble on the play recovered by Hood. Back at the 12 yard line. And the punting situation seals under pressure. Boots away a beautiful punt coming down at the 43 yard line. Solo Ono takes it at the 43. Across midfield, down at the 45 yard line. There for the tackle is number 76, Kenny Carter. So Carter on the tackle, Solo Ono. Let's see if they're marketed at the 45 or the 46 of any. Oh, from the Dixie 43 to the Neo 46. And Mike, maybe not quite as sharp as they were in the first half, both teams, but just as intense. All the intensity is definitely there. Larry, as we've mentioned, these two teams are highly ranked. They have great traditions and they're playing their hearts out here this afternoon. That last end around, I think the first, first time that maybe Annie O is going to go to the playbook a little bit, try and get back in his ballgame. High formation on the running backs. Dixie with a 35 to 21 lead. Handoff goes to the tailback, Teddy James. He's met in his own backfield. Boom, right there. Number 92, Scott Davis. The man, the defensive man that came through. Teddy James got the football, got two yards from where he got the football and Scott Davis met him for a yard loss back at the 47 yard line. There was nowhere to go as the neo defense that time just closed down what was supposed to be a hole straight ahead. And there's at least three players you mentioned right in there to close it up. And a lot of a yard overall. Second down, 11 yards to go. But what's been a very pleasant December in St. George. Is getting a little chilly as the sun goes down. Temperatures get cold at night, but during the day it's been rather pleasant. Beautiful weekend. Perfect football weather. Pitch goes to Wilson Kawaka. Kawaka turns outside, gets inside the 45, but not much inside. Pushed out of bounds by Tony Levy who comes quickly clear over across the track after he goes through the Dixie bench and almost into the table where the trophies are held. Market back at the. Let's see where they're marking it. 45 yard line. Yes. So Kovaca gets those two yards back now 45 back to a third and 10 situation. The thing for Dixie now is the clock is in their favor. 13:35 left. Dixie has the two touchdown lead 35 to 21. But that is not comfortable yet for the Rebels. No question any O is explosive back to pass fighter to heart. Here comes the blitz. De Hart has his man complete. Kendall Smith at the 31 yard line. Kendall Smith first down and once again outstanding reception. Kendall Smith having the best game of his career at Dixie. No doubt about it, that was a good pass, a little bit high. Smith will have. Smith had to leap high to bring it in but was able to hold in the past knowing he was going to get hit and he did twice as a matter of fact was still able to hold on to the ball if they got the first down. I'm going to have to check. I think we actually have a new record as far as touchdown passes today. Well, I have to double check. I think the old record is two touchdown passes in the game and if I recall we. Kendall Smith has two anyway two receptions and that is I think ties the old record split the running backs into a wing formation. Now handoff goes to the fullback Wilson Kavaka who is hugged down at the 28 yard line. So from the 31 Kvaca gets 3 yards. The thing for Dixie now is they're starting to get a little bit of ball control going. Mike, you're checking the record books now. Looking at most passes thrown or most touchdowns passing are three with Brooke Burley for Dixie in 1988. And on receiving, let's see, most passes received last year almost passes touch most touchdowns receiving his three by Brent Nyberg in 1988. Okay, Kendall Smith may yet. We'll wait and see. But the way Northeastern Oklahoma plays defense, Dixie may be lucky to have their 35 right at this point. And that's what they'll have to coast with to 12:23 left in a ballgame in motion Wilson Kovaca out of the split backfield handoff goes to Zed Robinson. Robinson hit from the angle, had a hole but suddenly it disappeared not from in front of him but from the side he was suddenly moved away from that hole. Getting through There was number 25, Kevin Keith. Keith got through there. Keith having an outstanding defensive day as Keith has done an outstanding job. Loss of a yard on the play and once again Zed Robinson is except for a few games has struggled against Neo. Third down 8 yards to go back to the 29 yard line of Northeastern Oklahoma Dixie with the football 11:44 left in the game 35, 21 Dixie out in front wide receivers each side in motion comes Wilson Kovaca right to left a lot of motion back to pass tighter to heart under pressure tighter to Hart on the run trying to scramble away shapes up, has his man intercepted instead Intercepted by Northeastern Oklahoma at the eight yard line by number seven that's Jason Stubbs in the end zone was Wilson Kawaka but the pass never got to him not far up maybe the magic ran out that time for Dehar 20th now he has been forced out of the pocket and either on the dead run or in the grass with the defense he's been able to find receivers one for a td, one for a long game this time the pass was right in the hands of Stubbs interception and any Olka their really first big break of the second half first turnover of the second half of Dixie and if I recall I believe that's only the second turnover for Dixie, five for Northeastern Oklahoma and that is part of the difference today to first down and 10 put it at the northeastern Oklahoma 17 yard line a 10 yard return by Jason Stanley wide receivers two of them to the right Farthest right is Terence Finley wide to the left and split the running backs Jackie Hood rolling to his left throws on the run all the time Pass deflected by Shane Tafoya off the hands of Sean Dunn Right out there was looked like Derrick Owens Owens was out there Tafoya kept in front of him couldn't quite get his both hands on it but tipped it back and Sean Dunn didn't react fast enough that's right Dixie was was in double coverage on that far side that time they both got in the action the first man to tip it up, second man to try and get a hand on it tip actually right over top the intended receiver so Dixie has played the past pretty well outside of a couple long games by Neo coach Glenn Wolf has talked about the secondary not the front line, but the secondary, the linebackers and the secondary, the key men today. And so far there's been a little bit of struggle at times. Dixie has copped them but still played an outstanding standing game. 35, 21, Dixie does lead. Jackie Hood rolling to his left, coming back to the right. Hood under pressure. Hood is going to be chased. Hood is going to get away and be pushed out of bounds near. Not quite pushed out of bounds, run out of bounds near the 17 yard line. So Hood made an outstanding play just to get back to the line of scrimmage. Shane to Foy. It was right after it. The defense got in there very quickly and Hood did not have time to set up. As he looked downfield, he had to run for his life. Coming to the near side, looking all the way. But the Dixie defense in the backfield was right on top of things. Did not leave anyone open and Hood just simply had to haul in the ball and run out of bounds. Third down, actually nine yards to go. Give him a yard gain on the play up to the 18 yard line. That last big step gave him a yard. Going out is Derek Ross. Two receivers out to the left. Finley way out to the left. And it looks like number 85 in there. Is that Chris Douglas? Nope. Correction, 86 Brian Garvey. Garvin. Nope. I'll double check. Throwing deep. Jackie Hood back deep is Tim Lewis deflected by Chuck Porter and spinning. The football is still spinning somewhat like a top right is at the 46 yard line. Chuck Porter as Tim Lewis was right there, came from the angle and almost intercepted it. I think they just about outran Hood's arm that time as he stepped back and just caught the arm and let it fly. It was about 45 to 50 yards in the air and the receiver running down the near side had to actually hold up just a bit, move inside and that allowed the defense to catch, catch up. Jay Seals under pressure. Is there going to be a flag? No. Going through is Brian Duck out of his hand on the football. Down went Seals. But he did get his hand on the football and just bump Seals. No damage to Seals at all. He gets up, got the punt away. Beautiful punt and no run back. And that's the key for Neo. No run back. That's been the case much of the time today. You have a good kicker. He got a very high lot of hang time and the Dixie receiver saw that, put up the hand and just hauled it in right at the 40 yard line. First down and 10, take it at the Dixie 40 yard line, no return by the Rebels. 1102 left in a ballgame, Dixie has just what they want, the two touchdown lead and the football. The question is, can they keep it both the lead and the football? Dixie has played a little more ball control here in the second half than they did in the first half. Gaining a little more time on the clock in motion. N.K. stevenson back to pass, patter to heart, pumps once, pumps twice, has it incomplete. And it was the saving play by the defensive backfield. It's once again Tony Levy as it was right in the hands of Kendall Smith. And then Levy stuck his hand in there. Yeah, Levy got just that right hand, just enough to flick that ball away. And I'll tell you, if we were able to go to pick a defensive player for any, oh, he'd have to at least get my vote to this point. He has been all over that field, inside and out. And once again everything seemed to spark for Levy after he dropped the punt, had the punt ricochet off of him into Dixie's hands and that one produced the score for Dixie that gave them the lead. Two touchdown lead. And it may be something you know has got him going as far as getting back in the game, but whatever the case, he's played a well of a game here this afternoon. Wide receivers on each side, one each I formation on the running backs. Pitch goes to the tailbacks, Ed Robinson trying to cut up field. Robinson slips and goes down just a yard or two gain. Dixie fans looking for the off site call against Northeastern Oklahoma. It looked like the the non encroachment area had been encroached and Greg Croakshaw making his case but not getting any anywhere. Actually in many ways it's been a case of not as many calls as you normally see and letting the football players play the game more. And that may just be the way they've decided to let it go here in the second half of play that time I agree with you, it looked like the man was well into that area but no flag from the referee so we'll just continue playing. 10:17 left in a ball game. 35, 21, Dixie with the lead, third down and nine. One yard gain by Zed Robinson. Put it at the 41 yard line of Dixie. Back to pass, tighter to heart again. He spent a lot of time passing. Pass complete to zed Robinson. Eludes two tacklers across midfield. Still on his feet at the 40, at the 35 rundown at the 28 yard line. Great athletic effort by Zed Robinson. Two players right there Almost intercepted, almost tackled immediately. And we have seen some tremendous plays on both sides that time. The pass a little bit high, Robinson went up, did a good job just to get a hand on it, was hit as he did, kind of bounced away, got his, regained his step, continued on, hit again, jumped over that man and continued on his way. So there has been a lot of great plays and some great athletes here this afternoon. Inside the Neo 28 yard line, 952 left in the game. 33 yards passing here in the second half. On that one, on that one, that 33 yard fast play. I formation on the running backs again. Handoff goes to Teddy James who's into the lineup. James down to the 25 yard line. And Dixie definitely playing more ball control now as they are actually controlling it more with the pass. Yeah, they have, they've gone to that pass and I think this is probably the heart's best game as far as passing statistics so far this season. And it's as you mentioned earlier, you give, you take what they give you and I think the NAO has shut down the run. They've allowed Dixie to go to the pass and so Dixie has responded. The freshman quarterback was on the state championship team last year in the state of Utah. The foray the big school was a quarterback of a team that was run oriented. Second down, 7 yards to go, but Hart has really matured. Handoff goes to the fullback, Wilson Kovaca breaks one tackle but doesn't break the other. And down around the shoelaces. The man to bring Kavaka down was Kevin Keefe. Keith just got a shoelace and wouldn't let go. Put it down at the 22 yard line. Mike, that's a case where we've mentioned several times, Kovaca always keeps the feet on the ground, keep them both returning. That time he only had one that was on the ground. The other one was in the arms of the man, but they hauled him in and Keith's another man. I think we'd have to give a lot of credit to defensively for Neo this afternoon. Beginning to end today. Chuck Smith has not had as many tackles as normal for Northeastern Oklahoma. I think part of that is Dixie has run away from Chuck Smith. High formation again. Pitch goes to Zed Robinson. Robinson is going to be hit from the angle, getting behind that blocking. Northeastern Oklahoma is doing something that we saw Snow College do against Dixie and that was get behind that huge line. They're coming in from the angle, getting behind that line. Brian Harper, the man on the tackle that time and once that line makes its initial push, it's a little tough to deal with them unless you can get behind them somehow. And the quickness is it has cost Dixie. It has that time again. Also they're bringing their linebackers, they're stepping up right onto the line of scrimmage and they're rushing sometimes in the neighborhood of about six, seven men. For the fourth time today, Dixie will try the field goal, this one from the 31 yard line. A 41 yard attempt. Jeff Winch, low snap. The kick by Winch is up. Will this one go? And it will not. It will hook to the left also. So for the fourth time today, with 737 left in the game, Dixie has missed field goals and Winch, who stepped in for Bill Hanson, misses the 41 yard field goal. So four times Dixie has missed the field goals today, one of which was blocked by Neo Mike. We've talked about the kicking game. Dixie definitely a struggle there. So far they have not had to have that 35, 21 lead right now with a little over seven and a half minutes remaining in the game. But it's got to be something a little bit disappointing. The coach with I'm sure think about and switching kickers that time. I think the place is perhaps a little bit off on a low snap. Nobody leaving but a few people going out of the big stands to the far stands where the sun is still shining. Back to Bass. No correction drop lay goes to Lashon Johnson. And Johnson up across the 24 near the 26 yard line. Johnson on the draw play. It looked like Hood was going to go back to pass. Most of the time Hood has passed on the run, rolling to the left, rolling to the right. Shades of Fran Tarkinson once again. In fact, Danny White, the quarterback for the Cowboys, would do that on occasion. Although he spent most of his time in the pocket. It'd be interesting to find out how many of those were called run or get out of the pocket. And they may have just been forced out by the Dixie defense. I mean, he did maybe not want to do, but having to throw on the one has done fairly well. Second down, nine yards to go. Split the running backs again. One receiver each side. Fake the handoff. A little quick pass over the middle blocked down by Shane Brandon as the quarterback. Hood started to pass over the middle and he had a receiver there and Brandon got the big left arm up there. Got it with his elbow really. Yeah, that was right into it that time they tried the quick, the fake handoff quickly into the pocket they pulled it back in turn around, wanted to fire it downfield and simply didn't get the ball high enough. He wanted to just dump it over the line. The big arms up there to knock it down. Potential for the touchdown there too. The receiver was there. Yeah he was. The receiver got free and so a big big play that time by number 77 Brandon. Third down, nine yards to go. Back to pass, no fake the draw play. Now back to pass. Jackie Hood throwing deep to the outside, almost intercepted and ended up short and headed intended for Derrick Ross. Back there was Sid Smith. Smith two sports star at Dixie, catcher on the baseball team and was named all conference baseball in addition to being all conference defensive back. Incompleted pass, 4th down and 9 yards to go with 650 left in the ball game. Northeastern Oklahoma really not in a place to do anything but punt right now. The snap. Here comes Seals high driving kick. It looked like it was going to be a low kick but suddenly kept raising. Taken at the 28 yard line by Tony Tolaano. Fumble on the play does Nao get it and it looks like they will. Toloano. And once again this is the third turnover by Dixie. Down is to Loano as he went down at the 37 yard line. From the Dixie 28 to the Dixie 37. Solo Ono then fumbled and I didn't catch. Who recovered? It looked like a flock of Golden Norsemen. I'm not sure if that is a proper term. There was a number of them there. One of them came out of that pile, number 24 with his hand raised in the air. I don't know if he's the one claiming credit or just excited to have the ball. Tyrone Rodgers is the man there. First down and 10 at the Dixie 39 yard line. And Tyrone Rodgers the man against the carry this time. So first and 10 from the Dixie 29 in northeastern Oklahoma given a new life. Put it down at the 35 yard line. From the 39 to the Dixie 35 by Tyrone Rogers. Second down, about six yards to go. 6:16 left in the ball game at the 35 yard line. Wide receivers to the left. Wide to the left is Terence Findlay. Also out there to the left, number 88, Scott Howlett back to pass. Jackie Hood has plenty of time. Throwing back to the right side. Has his man there, Tim Lewis knocked away by Sid Smith. Lewis was right there and once again on the money. And Sid Smith got his hand in it. Yeah, that time he did a good job. Dixie's been done an excellent job I think in the Secondary this afternoon as the the defenders back there have been right on top of the play every time that time he stood there, went up high, knocked the ball down at the last moment and right now, Larry, just under six minutes to go in the ball game. The clock now definitely becoming a big factor for Neo. 5:59 left and it's turning into quite a passing game. I don't think I've ever seen so many passes on the buttons that were not completed as I have seen today. Take the draw play going way back as Jackie Hood over the middle has his man complete at the 20 yard line. And that looks to be Lewis. First down and 10 inside the 15 yard line. Let's double check, see if it is 16. Nope, it's 14. It is Owens. Derrick Owens. Owens the man on the reception that time. Hood just keeps falling or fading farther back on the pass. Put it at the 14 yard line. A 21 yard gain. First down and 10 and here comes Northeastern Oklahoma again. Dixie with their third turnover of the day may be setting up a touchdown for Neo. Owens to the left side, to the right side. Dennis Ross back to pass through the hands intended out there. Number 11 got the pitch and that was Terrence Findlay as he got the pass and then tried to throw the pass and through the hands of Sid Smith. Smith was right there in the end zone and no golden Norseman there. He was, I think he was actually embarrassed on that one. The pass. He was the only one even anywhere near the football. The ball went right through his hands and he kind of put his hands down and walked off again in the field like maybe no one saw that one. That could have been a big thing for Dixie to stop this drive by Enio because a touchdown at this point was still over. 5 minutes to go in the ball game puts any old right back with just a 7 point deficit. Second down, 10 yards to go. Put it at the Dixie 14 yard line on the incompleted pass, Finley. And off goes to Tyrone Rodgers. Rodgers gets a few more yards down, down near the 12 yard line. Now one of the questions you may run into even though you're down by two touchdowns, 5:18 is enough time to come back. If you get to that point. Do you go for the field goal instead? Well that's something I'm sure we'll have to take a look at. They may have to consider here. I think at this point you would want to try and get as many points on the board as you possibly could put it at the 11 yard line. Third down about seven yards to go. Handoff. Fake the handoff. Jackie Hood on the option. Jackie Hood options. Runs out of options. Stacey Monroe gets through a loss of about a yard on the play. Put it back near the Dixie 12 yard line. Fourth down and about eight yards to go. Now you have the question, do you go for the field goal or do you go for the touchdown? You need two touchdowns. You're deep in Dixie territory, but you have a lot of yardage to make up to get the first down. Yeah, looking at it to fourth down at about seven yards, it looks like. And then got a lot of exciting news. They're going to take a time out to do it on. My prediction will be they'll probably go for the six points. 430 left in the ballgame. Let's just keep it right here. Speculate a little bit.430 left in the game. Dixie and Northeastern Oklahoma, 35 to 21. Dixie with the lead over Neo and Mike. This has been a dandy today between these two ball clubs and they've thrown about everything at each other, literally on two rushing teams. They have thrown, thrown the ball very well today. That's surprising. I think if, you know, if you look at the game beforehand and say, yeah, we're going to have a good hard nose game, they're going to run a lot. They're going to use the pass when they have to. I think very early in the ballgame, the tone was kind of set. Both teams had to go to the pass because the rushing games were being keyed on by the opposing defense. And they both responded very, very well. This is really a lot of points. 35 to 21. And what is supposed to have been a good defensive game. 3521 Dixie with the lead. The. The discussion, the thoughts. Coach Greg Croshaw, who really is a defensive specialist, that is his specialty. Former linebacker at Weber State College, Glenn Wolf, who has had nothing but success at Northeastern Oklahoma, has never finished lower than fourth in the nation in the 1980s and has two national championships to his credit. Take the draw play back to pass Jackie Hood. Yes, they're gonna go for it. Hood throws into the end zone. It is batted away by Dixie. Sid Smith and Cater Dally right there. And it was on the button again, intended for number 88, Scott Howlett. What a job we're seeing by the safeties and linebackers for Dixie College here this afternoon. You called it, Larry. That pass was right on the money. The intended receiver right on the back end of that, of the deep end zone and the ball right on the button. He went up high. Got it. And the ball just knocked away at the last possible second. And there's a big defensive stand for Dixie. First down and 10 for Dixie. Put it at their own 12 yard line. The fans giving a standing ovation they did to the Clovis High School marching band. And now more and more. Well, we have a half a dozen fans standing, everybody applauding as the defensive team comes up. That may be it. We'll wait and see.421 left in the game. Dixie. Now to play a little ball control. Or do they? Yes indeed. Handoff to the tailback. Big hole dead. Robinson is off to the races. Robinson has to beat Tony Levy. Robinson running away from Levy at the 30, at the 20, at the 10. Robinson's going to go all the way. Zed Robinson a 13 second run from the 12 yard line. Zed Robinson for the touchdown. Making an 88 yard touchdown run. And after Robinson had been stopped so many times by Neo. Not that time. Once again, Larry. It's right in the middle of field. That quick burst. Once you get past that initial collision, if you get into the secondary, it's becoming foot races. And he did an excellent job because chasing him. Tony Levy actually had the angle. But a smart move by Robinson to take that angle away by beginning to angle himself and went for the coffin corner and just got across in time. Jeff Winch to do the kicking to try to get the point after. Winch has been the most successful kicker today for Dixie. The shot is up and it is good by that kick. Dixie with a 42, 21 lead. 408 left in a game. Back in 60 seconds. Interested in 42, 21, 408 left in this ball game. And suddenly Dixie only ran 13 seconds off the clock. But I think they'll take it. The kick coming down taken by at the 13 yard line by number 22. That was Jerry Biggers. And Biggers brings it back to the 14 yard line. Swarmed under by Dixie. Tony Tolo Ono. Yes, he is okay. Also in there on the tackle is number 58 for Dixie. That was Anthony Brake, Tony Braca, young man from New Jersey, one of the few non Nevada or non Utah kids involved in on this team. For Dixie, you can count them almost on one hand. So from the northeastern Oklahoma 13 to the 14, the gain by Biggers. First down and 10 for northeastern Oklahoma. Dixie can play a little prevent defense right now, but I have a feeling this game still isn't over. There's 4 minutes and 4 seconds left and there's been a lot of scoring since five minutes left in the first half. Handoff goes to the tailback and that's Lashawn Johnson up across the 15 to the 17 yard line and Orlando Hill after he makes the tackle I think says something to him. Yeah, he had a lot to say to him. He was right in his face that time. The referee is quickly into pulling away. Make sure it didn't get beyond just a friendly discussion. Gain of a couple of yards. Second down, eight yards to go. Lashon Johnson had the burst of 65 yards today for himself. Oh, we've had some great individual performances. We've had tighter ball games. The first two ended up as tighter ball games. Unless in the last 3 minutes and 32 seconds we have a whole bunch happen and Jackie Hood's trying to do it right now. Throwing deep over the middle has got Howlett complete at the 40 yard line. Howlett is going to try to elude and finally go down at the 28 yard line. Chuck Porter and Sean Don and this one is not over. Down at the 28 Finally Sid Smith with a tackle as Howlett was there Mike he did, he got behind the defense. There was actually three Dixie defenders so I've been giving him such a credit all along that time I think they each thought one was a little bit deeper than the other but the Nintendo receiver got behind them all, hauled in that pass and that one Larry must have been close to 55 to 60 yards in the air 30. Yes, Jackie Hood has an arm no question on a run oriented team he's Quite a quarterback. 66 yard official touchdown actually back to the 29. He stepped to the 28, tried to step back to get away from the defenders who had gone by him at that point. 3 minutes 9 seconds left in the ballgame. Northeastern Oklahoma down but not dead. No question. Back to pass. Jackie Hood under pressure they say Umi Mafi Masi got through and there's a flag on the far side and we may have the face mask. No wonder he went down. Masi was being pushed away and went down to the 43 yard line. Face mask on Dixie. So Masi got the sack and got the face mask at the same time and the Northeastern Oklahoma team, the coaching staff and mask took a good three strikes out onto the field. They saw it too. No wonder Hood went down. Yeah, the referee just turned around Larry and gave an indication of face mask against any old but I think he was just got turned around again. They're going to march it. Well now it's Going to go both ways so we're going to have offsetting penalties. Personal foul against Northeastern Oklahoma will go all the way back to the 29 yard line. Make it first down and 10 again. So Jackie Hood got his neck wrenched a little bit but he's okay. He's still in there. Naomi Masi was almost blocked, was blocked away just as he got to Hood and suddenly I didn't see how he could get Hood down unless it was face mask and he had a handle on him. That's why.240 left in the ball game. Clock running again. Back to pass fake the draw play. Jackie Hood chafing up, throwing over the middle. Has his man complete at the 14 yard line. Enough for the first down. Yes, it is complete to Derrick Owens. And a little more of, how can we say talking trash which seems to be part of the, of the athletic scene now. A little more talking trash taking place I think between all of the ballplayers. Perhaps a little frustration that time as the man caught the ball on his knees, went down. Dixie defender came in just to make sure that and gave him a little bump and I don't think the any old receiver appreciated that. And you said they just talked a little trash. First down and 10 at the 14 yard line. 226 left of the game. I remember feature on NBA ballplayers talking traction. There are a lot of them back to pass. Throwing into the end zone. Has his man. Is it complete? It is but he's out of bounds. No, he couldn't hang on to it either. He was a stride out of bounds by the time the football got there. Derrick Owens, Sean Dunn back there. Incompleted pass. It was into the hands of Owens. Second down, 10 yards to go. Stops the clock with 2 minutes 14 seconds left at the Dixie 14 yard line. Neo has put on quite a show today, Dixie. Ditto. But when you're trying to run out the clock and instead run out the touchdown. Of 88 yards. Yes. Of 88 yards by Zed Robinson. Big difference in the game. Wide receivers on each side, two to the right, one to the left. Lewis and Finley out to the right and Ross to the left. Back to pass as Hood eludes one potential tackler. Hood on his feet at the nine yard line. Hood is going to fumble the football at the eight yard line. Dixie, get it. Diving onto it was Sid Smith. Hood just had the ball stripped away from him as he got to the seven yard line and then fumbled the football. And once again another turnover by Neo. And the turnovers have been costly. Deadly. I would have to think if you look back at the ball game and see the tremendous play both ends of the field Larry, offensively and defensively it has been a case of too many turnovers for Neo. I believe that is one of the big Factors for the 21 point difference in the ball game. 204 left in the game, 42 to 21. Dixie has double the score on Neo and that was thought to be impossible. First down and 10 for Dixie but Neo has not helped themselves with the turnovers today. Hopefully. We've talked with both coach Glenn Wolfe and coach Greg Croshaw. We'll hear from both of them in the in the post game interviews. High formation on the running backs quarterback, new quarterback in there is Nathan Walker for Dixie. Handoff. New quarterback, new running back in there is he from Teo Tao on the carry has about a yard. Tao the new fullback. Second down about nine yards to go and Dixie with the clock running. A minute 51 left in the ball game now the fans are starting to pick up and say hey, it's cold here. Now we're getting, getting a few, trying to move to the sunlight, trying to wrap up. Dixie will pick up victory number 10 on the year. A minute 33 away from that. Neo will finish with an 8 and 2 record on the year. Northeastern Oklahoma coach Glenn Wolfe picking up his 100th victory this year. Pitch goes to Herb Beard who found his way back from Albuquerque after the Thanksgiving break loss. On the plate. Beard from Albuquerque, New Mexico back to the five yard line. Loss on the play. Loss of about four yards on the play. Timeout called with a minute 17 left in the game. Third down, 13 yards to go at the Dixie five yard line. Let's take this time out. 42, 21. Dixie with the lead. A minute 17 left back in 60 this season. Take advantage of on the carry from tail on the carry as we begin the last few moments of this ball game. Brings it up to the eight yard line again. Make it, make it. Fourth down. Coming up. Fourth down and just about 10 yards to go. Just about 10 yards to go. Almost 11, not quite to the original line of scrimmage. 39 seconds left. Dixie's going to let as much time run off the clock as possible, take the penalty and then possibly boot it away. Timeout called by Dixie with 30 seconds left. Just a reminder for our KDXU fans. I know KGLC and KSSL in Miami, Oklahoma still have plenty of basketball to take care of tonight. But for our KDXU fans, we'll begin at about 5 o' clock with the pregame show. I'm not sure if we're getting pretty close to that or not right now. BYU at Penn State, a preview of the matchup in the Holiday bowl and football. This will be basketball. We'll follow that with Dixie College versus the BYU junior varsity Finish a triple header tonight with the Washington Bullets and the Utah Jazz. So be listening to Dixie's 890 KDXU and I'm sure KGLC and KSSL in Miami. Oklahoma will have plenty of action in basketball for you tonight. Also, 30 seconds left in the ball game. Dixie on fourth down punting situation. Bill Hanson back to do the punting high snap. Hanson with the pressure on gets the boot away and it will sail. Beautiful kick by Bill Hanson back to the 48 yard line and Levy brings it back to the Dixie 48 where he is leveled there by Ephraim Tao. So the punt by Hanson. Hanson who struggled with the field goal, did get the punts away today and did get a couple of key punts late in the ball game. Tony Levy as he gets up, maybe a little talking trash, but all of a sudden everybody's shaking hands. A moment batted Sean Dunn on the helmet as if to say good game. From the northeastern Oklahoma 48 down to the Dixie 49 is where it's marked 21 seconds left in the game as Dixie has wrapped up a victory and in the Sunbrook Dixie rotary Bowl number four against National Power, the number one team of the 80s in junior college football. And almost a shame for the Golden Norseman that they would finish the 80s the best team of the 80s and finish it on a loss to Dixie College. The Rebels desiring a victory today just to make that make another step forward into national prominence. Back to pass Jackie Hood. Hood under pressure, steps up. Hood still behind the line of scrimmage, throws. Is it intercepted? No, it is complete. Completed the 20 yard line. Pushed out of bounds near the 18 yard line. That's Scott Howlett again stops the clock with 11 seconds left. So on a first and 10 from the Dixie 49, Hood finds Howlett and Northeastern Oklahoma, typical championship caliber team, has not given up yet. Even though there's 11 seconds left, they want to get another score. Down to the 19 yard line. A 30 yard game. First down and 10, 11 seconds left in the game. Mike Dixie dropped seven men back that time in prevent defense. However, you're still able to complete that pass. After running around they do the same thing again. Seven men back. Taylor Dally almost Had the interception but instead it went right to Howlett. Split the running backs behind the quarterback Jackie Hood back to pass. Hood having plenty of time, looks, throws, has Dennis Ross who goes down at the 14 yard line with three seconds left. Two seconds left. That's the way the game is going to end, at the 14 yard line after the pass completion. The final score, Dixie College 42, northeastern Oklahoma A&M 21. We'll be back and recap the scoring. Hopefully be able to talk with both coach Glenn Wolfe and coach Greg Croshaw. Back in 90 seconds. If you're a Dixie Rebel fan and a Sun Capital bank customer, the bank thanks you. What happened. We've talked at the end of other years, Larry, where credit needs to go to guys that have followed through here, you know, years ago that helped us build this thing to the point that it's at today. And you can't do it just overnight and through opportunity and through a lot of great athletes and kids who are willing to work extremely hard. It makes, makes you look like pretty good coaches and it's really those kids and they've come. You know, we started out trying to be competitive with Ricks and people in our league and now, you know, I feel we're at the point where we can play with about anybody on a given Saturday. And that's a tremendous tribute to the, to the community and the school and everybody that's involved. The boosters group especially. And, and again I'd like to thank the Rotary Club. What a tremendous show they put on. And I get a little upset over the bands, but we got the field, got them off the field in time to play. I'm sure people enjoyed that. And you know, what a great production and the banquet and everything involved. What a, what a class, class, class show. You know, Coach Wolf told me that he'd been with his boy at Oklahoma State to four major bowls and that the banquet, the hospitality and all the things in, involved in this bull were just as nice as a Gator bull. Two of them and many of the others. So the Rotary Club and the people involved need to be very proud of what they've done here and we certainly thank them and again thank the Sponsors and you and everybody involved and it's a great win. Winter's gonna be good until recruiting's over. I'll go to work on that Monday, but I'm gonna enjoy this one. I'll tell you till Monday. And although I guess it's happened today, I've got a recruiting dinner with about 30 kids. What a great opportunity that is to bring them and watch us play and see the show and spectacle that went on today. So hopefully we can just continue from this point. Larry? Well, one of the things that's taking place today is we've talked about the excellence of play in this Rotary Bowl. We've had two tight games and we had the blowout last year and now this isn't as tight as the first two games, but I think for a ball game we saw more individuals, outstanding plays by both teams than we have seen in all three of the previous bowl games. I don't think there's any question it was plenty tight for me. I'm sure that the fans might have liked to have seen a three pointer again, but I don't get too old for that nonsense. And there was plenty of tenseness for me for that entire period of time. So I don't think there's any question that there was to me more talent out there playing the than any of the Bulls I've been involved with. And some big plays did occur on both sides. We broke a big run for touch, they broke one, they broke a big punt return, we got a couple of big passes and that is just great players, I think, going at each other and getting an edge. I thought Tyler DeHart threw the ball as well today as any quarterback we've had. Isn't that interesting because of all the struggles that he's had to go through and how much he's developed and just enough to go on a mission now and. But what a, you know, what a great game he had. And weekly and Kendall Smith and on down and down and down. But the protection by the line, like I say, it's just, you know, one stone at a time and the kids just responded to one challenge and we keep getting close and close and close. But you know, like I say, talent wise, I thought Neo was by far the best team we played this year and I think talent wise, probably in the Bull they had some. I'm sure they're frustrated with the turnovers and I really think that's a difference in today's ballgame. They've got a tremendous amount of talent and they're extremely well Coached. We were hoping to get coach Glenn Wolfe up here after the game also and talk with him for the stations back in Oklahoma that are, that are listening right now also. But one of the things for the KDXU side, we're going to need to select an offensive and defensive player of the game. Tighter to heart would be the obvious. But he's already got the most valuable player award. If you had to go to a second level, would it be Kendall Smith? What a year, what a game to finish out his season well and it really was reset Robinson or you know, those big linemen. I, I don't know. And I think, you know, Kendall would be a good choice. You know, it's very difficult, you know, you'd like to break it up and give everybody a piece but, but Tyler did get the MVP and I think Kendall, you know, came back from some injuries and hung in here for. He's been here it seems as long as I have. But that would be a great choice and a very deserving one. One touchdown. It seemed to be almost a. If there were some key plays for Dixie. One of them, the touchdown that gave you the lead after they had taken the lead, he knocked it away from the defenders and then caught it. It looks like a volleyball set up there. I think there was two defenders on him if I'm not mistaken and great concentration and came down with the ball and you know, a great choice without any, without any question. Defensive side Shay De Foya had the pass, interception, had the fumble recovery. There were others too. Dave Walsh with a fumble recovery. I'm not sure who I would select. You know, I don't know. Stacy Munro played an outstanding game. You know, it's so difficult to pick, to pick one and you know, I get so involved in it, it's hard for me to sit here and say and I guess if it were big plays, we went by Tafoya with an interception and a fumble recovery would be, you know, would be a good choice and a deserving one. Another three year player that you know, struggled here in the program, broken I ankle, tried to play running back, finally found his niche and loves to play and maybe doesn't have as much talent as a lot of kids but boy, that leadership and the way his love to play the game really, really helped this ball club and are going to be sorely missed. Let's talk about some gambles today. First of all, first play from scrimmage is a pass play and it goes for big yardage. Well, you know, dumb luck finds us all sometimes. And, you know, we send films and, you know, we talk about how poor a passing team we are and hoping that somebody will believe all that, you know, and I thought I had nothing to do with it. I'd like to stand up here and take credit, but I think Gordon and Kelly and Pete do a tremendous job year in and year out. And, you know, with that offense. And like I said, I had nothing to do with it. I was probably as shocked as the defensive back when that pass went up and I turned that over to them. And then we, Wade Roberts and I, who. Another guy I'd like to thank. Wade, of course, works here in town and is in the military, the National Guard, and has come over and been a tremendous help. But the offensive guys, like I say, they came up with it. And, you know, you think about it, that's a good start. That should have started to loosen them up, and I think it did, because then we drove down and got the touchdown. And I think it probably took them out of their game plan for that first series. I really believe that. And then they settled down and started really blitzing and coming inside. I think that was probably their plan to begin with, and I think we just kind of shocked them out of it. And then the other thing it did was it, you know, it gave confidence to our guys. And then we started throwing a ball, and you catch one and then two and then three, and all of a sudden they said, hey, we can throw and catch this thing. And so I think it was a, you know, a key play along with the fourth and one that we made by, you know, two or three inches. What a great call, huh? That was a gamble right at midfield. Yeah, but it's nothing new, you know, I mean, we've talked about it before, and, hey, you know, you play in a big game, and I've heard people say, say, hey, you know, you play a big game, the guys usually lose are the ones that are playing, you know, they're playing conservative and are afraid to do things to win. And, hey, that's been our philosophy all year. You know, it shouldn't have surprised anybody on the radio or anybody in the stadium, because it's fourth down. Heck, we're going for it. We were going to go four down, fourth and two, and, you know, that's one of those plays you make, and the coach is a genius. If you don't, everybody's throwing their popcorn at him. I hope that's all they'd throw, but we've done it for eight years, and we'll continue to do that. And I hope I ever get to the point where, you know, I started getting conservative and said, hey, let's punt it. Because you got to believe in your offense that they can make it, and you got to believe it. If you don't, your defense is going to stop them. And there was no question on that call. I, you know, that. That would never be questioned. That's an automatic. Oh, one other thing about that. The only question we had up here is Northeastern Oklahoma had not given you the run today. They did give you the pass because they took away the run. Yeah, but, you know, and they didn't give us very damn much on that run. I mean, I think it was 4th and about 2ft. I think we made 4th 2 foot 4 inches. So. But, you know, that's what, you know, we've got here. You dance with who brung in, then, you know, the runs. The runs got us here. So you got to say, hey, you know, we've done it all year. We believe in you. Go get it. You know, if they don't, then pat them on the back and say, good game. But to me, that's. That's so much better than putting it away and say, hey, we can't do it. I mean, I'm not, you know, I'm not for. And I think that's the way our players feel. They. They have no question in their mind either. It's fourth, and we don't care where we're at. Hey, we're going to go for it. And most of the time we get it. Sometimes we don't, but if we don't, then it's up to the defense, and everybody knows that. So I guess they shouldn't have surprised anybody on that. The pass. Yeah, that surprised me. That surprised a lot of the 4th and short. You better be ready because that's what we're going to do. Now on the other side, Northeastern Oklahoma running team. The Jackie Hood problem played as well as any quarterback could today. He threw on the money so many times, and the defensive backs had knocked it away or the linebacker knocked it away. Some tremendous defensive efforts to keep away from completed passes. Well, again, the same type of thing. I'm sure they came into the game wanting to run the football. I have no doubt in my mind. We didn't commit as many people to the line of scrimmage or blitz. We tried to blitz once and went however many, 50, 60 yards for a touchdown. So I said no more of that. They had great quickness. I thought our defensive guys did an Outstanding job. We fell down. The field was slippery. I don't know if for what reason, but there was a lot of kids falling. That's unfortunate because I think it was an advantage to us and I think we made some bigger plays. We had DBs fall down and they make pass plays and they had some fall down, and I think ours turned into touchdowns where theirs. We were able to scuffle and get them or they run out of bounds or something, but our design was to take away the run and yet play a three deep zone behind it. And they hit us with a few balls behind the linebackers, right over the middle, which I was hoping they wouldn't find that dead spot. But, you know, they're good coaches and I think we forced them into passing. And he's, you know, they got great athletes. He's no slouch at throwing a ball and they roll out with him. And I was extremely proud of our defensive line. We're rushing three and sometimes four. And I thought Walsh and Mossey did just a great job of keeping him contained. He hurt more people than the film we saw by rolling out of the pocket and then running with it. I don't believe he ever got out and was able to run for much yardage. He's a great athlete. He's a highly recruited athlete. Maybe not as a quarterback, but I don't see why. He sure throws the ball well. And the other thing that surprised me, I really expected more option, but they tried option a couple times and I think we defensed it extremely well, especially down here late in the game. Stacy Monroe, maybe. Tremendous play down here, and I really expected a lot more option, but they. They threw the ball and that's how they were moving the ball. And you have to go to what. We don't like to throw it either, but we had to go to it to move the football. And I think good coaches will make that adjustment and then not be afraid to do what's there. You can't be. You mentioned it was definitely a defensive struggle until five minutes left in the first half, but it really was a defensive struggle all day. Even though there was roughly a thousand yards between the two ball clubs. I think there was two great defenses out there. I have no question. I thought the hitting was unbelievable. I mean, it was some popping going on and we were fortunate to cause turnovers, like we said. But, you know, big plays occurred because of great athletes on both sides. But I'm sure when you turn on the film, you're going to see many more great defensive plays than you are great offensive plays. I really believe, as I think back on it, a lot of the great, great offensive plays came because somebody slipped and fell on the turf or, you know, a great player made a great run, a gamble. We Zed goes 80 yards with a. With a run on a blitz. You know, there's nobody back there, and if you break the line of scrimmage, you're gone. Their guy went 50 or 60 yards on a run, on a blitz. And, you know, those are great runs, but those are because defenses were trying to make big.
