Rotary Bowl 1988 Dixie vs Inver Hills

Transcript

As Dixie does not get the first down, they'll mark it just at about the 40 yard line, not 7 a 6 yard first. Second down, about 4 yards to go for Dixie College at the end of hills 40 yard line. 13:56 left in the third quarter of play. Dixie with a 34 to nothing lead. Wide receivers on each side once again will be selecting a KDXU player of the game. Plus there will be honors coming from the Rotary Bowl Committee to both sides at the end of the game. Tumble on the handoff and the handoff was never quite there. And Inver Hills recovered. Bounced right into the hands of number 40. For Inver Hills that was Louie Vasquez as the handoff never got to Rod Staley. So the fumble recovered by Inver Hills and for Dixie, the turnover. 13:37 left in the third quarter of play. The fumble recovered by inverhills and it's first down and 10 Vasquez, who is an all American candidate. Loss of about a yard on the play in that sense put it back at the Inverhills 39 yard line. Inverhills with their first chance to get a score on the board here in the second half. Two receivers to the right split the running backs. Lutz throws, buzzes that pass almost intercepted. Into and out of the hands of his intended receiver. Let's check and see if that was Hawkins. It is Hawkins, the intended receiver. It was drilled at Hawkins and he just couldn't hang on to it. Luch does throw a hard pass, he really does. Not only with the pass drill, but the Hawkins was drilled as well. If that ball got there, could not hold on to it. Good defensive pressure once again by Dixie. Even though they get the pass there, they can hit him hard enough to. And Howard Greave in the middle of a lot of things today for victory. College back to pass. Lutz under pressure. Lutz will be sacked. Coming from the outside is number 97, John Anderson, the sophomore from East High School. And Anderson with the sack. Back to the 30 yard line. John Anderson. Anderson with his second sack of the day. And Jeff Lutz has spent a lot of time on his numbers. Move it back to the 30 yard line. Loss of nine yards on the play. Third down and 19 yards to go. Inver Hills trying to overcome a 34 to nothing halftime deficit. Has a long ways to go. Not only score wise, but to return back to Inver Grove. Minnesota is a long way. Lutz pumps once, pumps twice, rolls to the outside. Throws deep down along the outside. Intercepted by Parker Ragsdale at the Dixie 33. Back to the 40 at the 45. Down at the 47 yard line. And Parker Ragsdale, the man on the pass. Interception. Once again a turnover, Mike. Big turnover. Once again the Dixie defense rises to the occasion. But even more than I think the man who intercepted the pass was the rush forcing the quarterback to the loots to get this. Let it fly a little bit too early. That pass was off. It's marked by a good 6 or 7 yards and Parker Ragdale was right in the right position to haul that one in. So it looked like that Inverhills got a break going their way, but they turn it right back in Dixie again. It was excellent field position. First down and 10 at the Dixie 47 and a half yard line. 12:42 left in the third quarter of play. Dixie with a football once again leading 34 to nothing. Back to pass Burley. Burley will not get the pass away. Sean Hutchinson tried to throw the block and was run down by Earl Dunklund. Duncan has done an outstanding job today on the defensive side for Inver Hill. Sean Hutchinson has footprints right up the right at the front of his jersey right now. They were right over top of him. He put the shoulder into him and moved forward and suddenly he was on his back underneath what's his name, Duncan, who all went right over the top as you mentioned and picked up the quarterback. What a good strong rush that time. And I think we're seeing again some excellent defensive play which we hadn't heard a lot about from Inverhill. Spiral was willing that time, but Hutchinson not quite enough to stand up to Dunklin. Second down, 18 yards to go for the Dixie College Rebels back at their 39 yard line. Burley throws the pass. A little looping pass taken by nyberg at the 50 yard line. Down near the 48 yard line, 49 of Inverhill. So a gain of about 12 yards on the play. On the pass from Burley to Nyberg Rent. Nyberg had the fast just slightly as it left the hand of Burley and had to step back, catch it almost knee high on the left side. Lean back. Third down coming up. Put it at the Inver Hills 49 yard line. Third down, about six yards to go for the Rebels. 11:24 left in the third quarter of play. The stands shade you in the afternoon, which is a little bit of a detriment if you're a fan trying to keep warm on a December afternoon. Burley buzzes the pass. First down, Brent Nyberg at the 35 yard line of inver H right there. Burley on the numbers. Denyberg tackled immediately. I have a 19 listed there that I don't see. I believe that may be number 20, John Adams instead. But the pass is complete. They'll mark it not at the 35, but at the 34 yard line. Buzz that pass down to the Inverhills 34 yard line. And the University of Utah Marching Band is just having a hoot today. They're enjoying this one. It's as if it's the Utah BYU game for them. They're having a lot of fun. Handoff goes to Sean Hutchinson. Hutchinson breaks through at the 25, at the 20, breaks another tackle inside the 15, down at the 6, at the 11 yard line, Hutchinson squirted through and just kept going. Finally on the tackle is number 16, Darren Glazier. And Shawn Hutchinson having quite a day. It looks like that will put him right near or if not over the hundred yard barrier. Yeah, he's over the hundred yards. He had 83 in the first half. I have him for 23 on that 29 here in the second half. So he's right at 102 yards in the ball game. Not too shabby. 10:20 left in the third quarter of play. John Hutchinson, if he picks up a third touchdown, will break a rotary bowl record. Pitch goes to the outside. Hutchinson looking for that third touchdown, trying to turn the corner, cannot Inver hills on the great pursuit there on the tackle is number two, Jamad Ryle. Jamar Ryle on the tackle and a loss on the play. Ryle just stayed on the outside from that defensive back position and would not let Hutchinson turn the corner. That was good pursuit that time. They did. They kept him running laterally instead of vertically up the field and just forced him along that line and dropped him back for a loss. That's, I believe, the first time that Hutchinson has lost yards here in the ball game. Back to the 15 yard line, second down, 14 yards to go for Dixie College. They can get the first without the touchdown. Back to pass. Burley lost it towards Brandon. Both the receiver and the defensive back fall down. The defensive back a little more upset about his slip than the receiver flopping around on the field with Shawn Bradford. Bradford in utter agony that he couldn't get to them. Gave us his best impression, I think, of a beached whale or something. He was really upset. He was so upset because Nyberg actually slipped first and Bradford, seeing that he'd gone down, knew that he could get to the pass as he turned to go to it. He also went to the ground. The ball fell helplessly onto the. Onto the field. I think the term is floundering. Floundering. It was. It was quite a performance. Anyway, Bradford is. He is animated. Back to pass Brooke Burley. Buzzing. This one has it tipped almost into the hands of the intent of the defender. Bradford almost got another one. Capuno as the pass was tipped, was tackled and so good pursuit that time. Number 26 out there, Scott Goplan along with Earl Dunklund. And almost with a pass interception was Shawn Bradford as it was tapped by goplan. Incompleted pass. Fourth down, 14 yards to go at the Inver Hills 15 yard line. And this time Frank Lemon, not from 47 yards. Will shape up at the 23 yard line. 33 yard attempt a little bit closer. Significantly closer than the last two attempts. 921 left in the quarter. The kick by Lemon under pressure puts it up. Is it good? No. Fades to the left and we've had nothing from the two kickers but missed field goals today Frank Lemon is looking a little frustrated as he comes to the sidelines and not coming very fast. Throws his hands out to the side as if what can I do? I'm not allowing for the. For the prevailing whatevers. The prevailing whatever is they're twisting those kicks away Income no good on the field goal with him, Mike. That time he had quite an angle coming from the left side and tried to hook it in and actually hooked it too much as he just missed that left upright going right to the outside. You look good in white, Larry. No one stuck a hat on your head. My daughter, she didn't stick it out straight. Well, daughters sometimes do that. But in any event, Dixie coming up shy there but doing very well the rest of the way. Back to pass lutes first down and 10. Has the pass complete. Dwayne Hawkins enough for the first down. And that's one of the few times this day that that Wayne Hawkins has been able to get free. Dixie has just put the put the screws tightened very tight to Wayne Hawkins, the all American wide receiver. I still don't think my daughter has this hat on straight for me. First down, 10 yards to go. Put it at the Inverhill 33 yard line as Lutes to Hawkins. The snaps skips into the hand to the quarterback. Lutz fumbles the football recovered by Inver Hills just happens to have alignment and turned around to face that one as Lutz was split around and the man the heroics that time belonged to Tom Martin, offensive lineman from Cambridge Minnesota, who happened to see that football slip out of the hands of Lutz. That was an interesting play. The ball did just simply flip. He was spinning in 360 degrees and the ball actually flew out behind him and the lineman just happened to be in the right spot. But even with that, that's not really a bright spot even though he's in the right spot because Inverheels is still really struggling and big reason is is the defensive Dixie. Second down, 16 yards to go. It was finally placed down at the 27 yard line. Oh, I like that. That's a good looking half, says Sunbrook. Dixie rotary ball, I think I'll use that. Second down, 16 yards to go for Inver Hills College. Loots back to pass will not get there as there is a pile of red jerseys just bursting through at the bottom of the stack. We can look at Howard Reeve also off that stack. Who else do we have? John Baker also in there, David Morrison. So a cast of thousands sacking loots that time Back to the 25 yard line. Third down, 18 yards to go. Reeves, Baker, Morrison, hall right there. Third down, 18 to go. Back in the shotgun formation. Lutz buzzes that pass through the hands of the Invert Hills ballplayer intended receiver. Almost into the hands of Sid Smith, again intended for twin brother Joe Lutz. And there are flags everywhere. And it looks like we have a little shovee match going on between John Baker and Inver Hills. Let's see if it's going to be against Inver Hills or against Dixie. Apparently the penalty against Denver Hills and then the shoving match. Mike, I didn't catch the signal. I didn't catch the signal. Here it comes. Now it looks it's going to be marked off against Dixie apparently as they in the backfield. Personal foul. Now call a little bit of shoving and I don't understand why we go against Dixie. The one who'd be frustrated would be of course Inver Hills, but apparently a little bit over aggressive play in the backfield and not only a big turnover, I'm not a turnover, but a big mark off against the Rebels but also a an automatic first down. So it'll be first down and 10 after the 15 yard penalty. Personal foul against Dixie and it may be against John Baker. So it'll be first and 10 for Inverhills and move it back to the 40 yard line. Back up to the 40 yard line for Inver Hills. I don't think I'll let my daughter wear this hat. Looks good on you. April looks great. She's helping out quite a bit. She's helped out quite a bit today. The snap comes back to Lutz under pressure. Lutz eludes one tackler, but not three, four and five as they are right there. Morrison along with Rich confusion. Lutz is down. So is an Inverhills lineman. Lutz is getting up very slowly as he was buried and an Inver Hills lineman is down and he is hurting. I don't know if it's been an injury on the shoulder, it couldn't be on the in the leg area. But he was hit and went down as Dixie. The Thundering Herd went right up the front and over the back 7:06 left in the third quarter of play. 34 to nothing. Dixie out in front. Let's take a 30 second break. We'll be back. Dixie with the lead back in 30 seconds. Help from the near side. Dixie College has gone out to see the situation there. You hate to see anybody get hurt in any game at any time of the year. But sad thing to see that things not going the way and now perhaps a big injury against Inverhill. I'm not sure if coach Brent Jeffers is out there. I think so. But coach Greg Croshaw is out there also looking over the young man. Dixie ballplayer back there looks to be Bryce Peterson is back kind of observing what's taking place. I'm not sure if it might be a neck injury. They're trying to hold him as still as possible. Inverhill's trainer is out there trying to keep keep him down and still Greg Croshaw is out there also and Howard Reeve talking to the officials. For some reason everything's come to a halt for a while. Let's take another 60 second break with 7:06 left in the third quarter. Dixie with a 34 to nothing lead will be back in 60 seconds. It'll be back at the 29 yard line. So big loss on the play. Second down 21 yards to go for Inverhills after that sack receivers in motion. So is Jeff Lutz the quarterback. Lutz a loots one tackler steps up to the 29 back to the other side of the field trying to get away from Brit Johnson will not Johnson trips him up. Shawn Dunn there hovering also in the vicinity. So a gain up across the 30 down near the 33 yard line for Inver Hills. Make it third down, gain of about four yards on the play. Put it at the 17 yard line or put it fourth down at 17. Put it at the 33 yard line. Let me get these in order now. Once again tonight, 7:15 broadcast time, Dixie versus College of Southern Idaho, right here on KDXU, followed by that's Basketball, followed by the Sacramento Kings and the Utah Jazz. Third down, 17 yards to go. Shotgun formation. Jeff Lutz over the middle, has it incomplete intended for brother Joe. Into the midsection and out. And Parker Ragsdale, the man that was doing the defensive work there, helped out by Shane Tafoya, who has been a defense or had been an offensive lineman, shifted over to the defensive side. Apparently a little bit of a surprise there to Foya working on the defensive side today, but the real hit was put on by Ragsdale. Ragsdale just spun him around. After he got one hand on the ball, he was grabbed by Ragsdale. Really did not have a chance to complete the possession. And again the pressure in the backfield forced him to throw that a little bit quicker than he wanted to. Low snap to the punter. Reese Reece throws the pass, almost intercepted by Howard Reaves. There's a flag on the play and it may be against Bryce Peterson as the pass skipped into the hands of the punter and two flags go down. Peterson may it'll be roughing the passer who was the punter. Now let's begin with this thing. The snap skips into the hands of punter Greg Reese. Reese rolls out to the left after the skip to try to pass it and then is roughed by Bryce Peterson after he almost threw the interception. I hope we have that all pointed in the same direction. 6:03 left in the third quarter, 34 to nothing. The score at halftime has remained Dixie's favor and no change. Clocking down with Howard Reeves who is getting his two bits worth in. And also with Inver Hill's personal foul roughing the passer against Dixie. Ineligible receiver downfield against Denver Hills, offsetting penalties. We try it again. Fourth down coming up. Send the putter back on the field. And maybe a little different center. I'm not sure, Mike on this one. 603 left, 34 to nothing. Instant replay. Once again, Dixie with the lead. And this one has been different. The first two Dixie rotary bowls have ended in very tight games. This one so far has been a route for Dixie. But Inver Hills has battled Dixie even here in the second half. Greg Reese to do the punting again. Dixie with people back to receive. This one falls, skips into the hands of the punter again. Fumble picked up by Scott Gofflin. Gofflin on the run. Gofflin at the 40 yard line. Across the 44 or down near the 44 yard line. Goughlin finally brought down there by Dixie's number 59, Rich Kafouthe. So the bad snap picked up eventually after the fumble by Reese. And Gofflin picks it up and runs it, but gets it to the 43, almost to the 44 yard line. So Goughlin on the run to the Inverhills 43, gain of about 10 yards. But Dixie takes over with 552 left in the third quarter. It's first down and 10 at the Inverhills 43 yard line. Wild, wild play in this third annual Dixie Rotary Bowl. Fake the handoff to Staley. The pass over the middle complete Pipuno inside the 15 count at the 11 yard line. Pifunhu, the tight end with his first reception of the day has the completion from Brook Burley. Burley once again doing an outstanding job. Put it at the 11 yard line. So Burley to Pufunu. First down and 10 for Dixie. And it seems like they were here once before at the 11 yard line. Fukunu an outstanding receiver this year, Mike, a tremendous job. He was wide open over the middle, but he had to actually look back and take the pass over that shoulder. Hauled it in and gained a couple more yards. Good run. High formation on the running back. Staley in front of Sean Hutchinson. Handoff to Staley. Yes, staley across the 10 down near the 7 yard line. It looked like Burley was going to fake the handoff and then pitch it back to Hutchinson. Gain down to no market at near the eight yard line. Instead gain of about three yards inside the eight, three and a half yards. Second down, a short seven yards, almost six yards. Coming up for Dixie. To the left side, Kendall Smith. Dixie has the clock to fight more than anything else right now. They have a healthy 34 nothing lead in motion for Punu. Left to right, Burley, new quarterback Kai Kapale in there, not Burnley. Capella. Handoff goes to Sean Hutchinson sweeping inside the five yard line. Down near the three yard line. So Kai Capelli, his brother Naoli played last year, was the starting quarterback for Dixie. Was relieved after the injury to Burnley by Burley. And this year without the injury, Kai Capelli, freshman redshirt last year, this year as a freshman, relieves Brooke Burley. Third down, about two yards to go at the Inverhills three yard line. High formation, Staley and Hutchinson the running back. Staley the front man in motion. Pupunu right to left. Handoff goes to Hutchinson. Cannot get any yardage Maybe a half yard gained at most as Hutchinson was stopped by a fare thee well, right in the middle of things, Earl Dunklin once again. And also in the middle, middle of things, number 33, Charlie Drake, who also might be a candidate for the Inver Hills Most Valuable Player. I guess we all, we both get a vote on that, right, Mike? Yeah, we get to be a part of that. They've asked us to give us the vote. Give them a vote to the Rotary Bowl Committee here for an MVP from both team. I think those two names you just mentioned probably would have to be high in my mind at this point of the MVP for Inverhill High formation. Again, fourth down, a couple of yards to go. Dixie willing to go for the first down. If they don't get it, Inver Hills will have the football deep in their own territory. P goes to Hutchinson trying to get away. Does he get the first down leaned forward. Now the question might be, does he get the first down, did not get the touchdown, has at least one yard, maybe two. Inver Hills thinking that they have held. The officials saying yes, they have held. So a gain of about a yard and a half on the play. Inverhills takes over with 324 left in the third quarter and Inverhills putting the squash on the Dixie offense. And this time, Mike, but it's maybe too little too late. It could be late here in the third quarter. That was a good presence, however, good knowledge there by Hutchinson as he was running. He knew exactly where he had to get that ball and as you mentioned, he just stuck it out and ended up just a little bit shy. But he knew where he had to get. He tried his best to get it there. But let's give some credit to the Denver Hills defense at this point as I think for one of the first times in the game they've stopped him down inside the 20 yard line. First down, 10 yards to go at their own two yard line. Not a good prospect for coach Brent Jeffers and his giant squad from Inverhills College in Minnesota. Handoff going to the outside, squirting to the outside is Diedrich Henderson. And Henderson, hey, I got it right. Henderson across the five yard line on the carry, puts it near the seven yard line. So a gain of almost five yards on the play. Second down and about five yards to go. Almost four, five and a half yard gain on the on the carry. So a short five along four coming up for Inver Hills, just about the seven yard line. Why to the left, Wayne Hawkins, wide receiver to the right is number 10, Ted Berry split. The running back staggered the running backs behind quarterback Jeff Lutz. Lutz throws the pass complete to Wayne Hawkins at about the 11 yard line. Close to a first down. There on the coverage is Bryce Peterson, Parker Ragsdale pointing as if to say, hey, it's skipped into his hands. I don't think they're going to get very far with the officials. The officials mark it at the 11 yard line. Just short of the 12 yard line would be enough for the first down, but the officials, will they call for a measurement? Yes, they will. Second down, our third down and inches or first down and 10. That's the question. Just across the 11 yard line, short of the 12 yard line. They don't have to get to the 12 to get the first down. They're not quite to the 12. They're not quite to the first down. Howard Reeve gives the signals about five and three quarters inches. You got good eyes, Larry, all the way from where you picked that up. Yeah, he held up both hands. It was just really just inches short. And that call was made by the trailing referee who I think did a good job in calling that pass completion. But he did scoop it up right off the shoe tops. And just a couple inches short. Inver Hills. Do they want the timeout? It's third down. Yes, they do. Timeout, Inverhills 301 left in the third quarter. 34 nothing. Dixie back at 60 seconds. Hello, it's me again, your Stanger Toyota Christmas shopping advisor. And it occurred to me the other day that Christmas shopping can be a real hassle. Standing in line, getting shoved around, waiting to get something wrapped. Whew. Then I thought of Stanger Toyota. Can you imagine a place where there's plenty of room, no crowds, you can pick out your own color and size and they'll even let you trade in something old. And if you ask Ed Stanger real nice, he might even deliver it to you Christmas Eve. He loves to play Santa Claus. So think about Stanger Toyota. 100 west leads in for Hills by a score of 34 to nothing. The University of Utah marching band in the stands are active. They're great. They're putting on a great show. And I know there's a lot of people standing up and watching the band while the football game's going on. They're doing a good job. Lutz takes the handoff, keeps the football, loses yardage. Luke tried to turn to the outside and there was a host of Dixie ballplayers led in part. Let's See if we can get all of the numbers of these trucks fed to heart. Cayter Dally also in there. Tim Lyman. They just closed off that left side. So fourth down coming up. Third down, less than a yard to go. A loss on the play. Back to the 10 yard line. So it'll be fourth down, less than two yards to go. Back at the end for hills 10 yard line. And the Dixie defense was not about to let anything go. Reese standing in his own end zone, gets the snap, gets the kick away under pressure, he booms this one out. And it will be taken at the 48 yard line by Nate Hanson. Hanson looking for the return, does not get a whole bunch of them swarmed under at the 44 yard line there on the tackle. Let's see if we can catch some numbers to Chris Bierbauer again. Bierbauer is also one of the candidates for the player of the game for Inverhills. Bierbauer has done a lot of things well defensively and also on the kamikaze squad. Put it at about the inside the 44 yard line. So on the punt by Reese, Dixie takes over 209 left in the ball game. It's first down and 10, just inside the Inver Hills 44 yard line. Great field position again. So from the Inverhills 48 to the 44, Nate Hanson takes that one. Handoff goes to Sean Hutchinson, scoots a little bit to the outside, picks up an extra couple of yards inside the 40. Down near the 38 yard line. So Sean Hutchinson turns. He is a solidly built young man, but not very heavy. He is thick, but not heavy. That's a pretty good way of explaining it, I guess. But he's such an elusive runner as well. He can cut extremely quick and he has that ability. He was quickly going inside, selling to the outside. I believe he gained about three yards on that outside move. So second down, about four and a half yards. Second and four, four and a half. I'll go with that. Down the right side, new man in there. Chris Erickson has the tight end, Kai Kapinli. The quarterback handoff goes to Hutchinson. Being chased from behind. Hutchinson short of the first down. Territory down near the 35 yard line, grabbed from behind and dragged back is Earl Conklin, the man on the coverage there. He was chasing Hutchinson through. And as Hutchinson had to veer a little bit to the outside, that allowed Duncan to get his hands across the shoulder pads. Third down, about a yard and a half to go. A yard more like it. I would guess just the length of the football inside the 35 yard line. Needs to get that length of the football inside the 40, 34 yard line to get the first down. Dixie, third down, about a yard and a half. Rod Staley, he's the fullback. Does he get the call? Yes, he does. Does he get the first down? One of the few times he doesn't back up to 35. Staley stacked up Inver Hill playing a great second half. They have shut down Dixie Duncan. And on the tackle, Pier Bauer again in on the tackle. Right in the middle of things. Number 75 in there. Tony Kautz in on the tackle and Delon Goines in on the tackle. The young man from Monroe, Louisiana. That's on Goins. The first time I've seen him involved, but he was right in the middle. That one really helped. Stand Staley up. And you're gonna do that. It takes again, Delong Goynes, 304, five pounds to do it. Possibly about a half yard. Fourth down, almost two yards to go on the keeper. Capelli gets it. Kai Capelli, the quarterback, gets the first down, but also a flag on the play. Who gets it? Is it against Dixie or is it against Inver Hills? A little upset in there for Dixie is number 50, Doug Wyckoff in at center replacing Kirk Lottie. Wykoff doing the job at center and he's a little upset about something. Personal foul against Dixie. So the first down would have been picked up at the 31 yard line. The question is, is it first down and a dead ball. Personal foul. That may be the case, Mike, if it is, Dixie has the first down but loses yardage. Coming to the sideline, Doug Wykoff. Dixie getting Wykoff right to the sidelines. Wykoff goes right to the bench and you can see there is red all around the lower below his ears. He is upset. Slams a helmet into the ground, he is upset. I'm not sure if he may have been kicked out of the ball game. Personal foul against Dixie. So apparently it is a first down for Dixie down at the 31 yard line and the personal foul against Wyckoff. 15 yard penalty. So march it back. Well, from about the 32 yard line. March it back to the 47 yard line. First down and 25 for Dixie. Is that a better position? You better believe not. The only factor is you still have the downs in your favor. Capele sets up, has the screen pass, left side to Shaun Hutchinson, back to the 47, 45, leveled at the 42. That ends the third quarter of play, Dixie with a 34 to nothing lead back in 60 seconds. Quarter ditto Inver Hills. And that's the problem for the Giants from Inver Hills. They were held scoreless in the third quarter, also in the first and second quarter. And it's 34 to nothing, Dixie out in front. It's been lopsided so far. The second half has been a defensive struggle. Dixie has not been going totally with the first string in there as Kai Capella is in a quarterback make it 34 nothing. About ready to get underway with the fourth quarter of play, Dixie will have second down 20 yards to go at the Inver Hills 42 yard line. The third annual Sunbrook Dixie Rotary bowl. And what a show. It's been an outstanding one today, even if the score has been somewhat lopsided thus far back to pass Capelli under pressure. Flag on the play. Capelia across the 40, breaks away from one potential tackler. Finally rolled down by number 59 on the tackle. That is Mark Hoven. Flag upfield though, and that's usually a sign it's against the offense, Mike. A lot of times back there. Yeah, deep in the backfield where Capelli was back trying to get away. But it looks like they pointed against Inver Hills and a little bit surprising. So the call will go against Inver Hills and that'll march Dixie even deeper into the territory looking for another score. William Vasquez copying his helmet as he looks over to court to coach Brent Jeffers saying, I'm not sure what happened. It's a first down apparently. Let's see what the, what the case is. That's surprising. 15 yard penalty. Is it a first down? Yes, it is. Personal foul against Inver Hills. And so the personal foul against Denver hills makes it first down and 10. And big break for Dixie and a disaster of a play for Inver Hills. Officials want timeout. No timeout called by Inver Hills as they're trying to get their defensive squad set. Let's just take a 30 second break. 14:40 left in the game. Dixie with a 34 to nothing late. We'll be back in 30 seconds. To the right side, Brent Nyberg to the left side. Kendall Smith at the Inverhills 27 yard line. After the 15 yard personal foul, Tenley handoff goes to Sean Hutchinson. Stood up at the 25. Muscles what little muscle he could put forward against that Inverhills defense at this point. Down near the 23 yard line, there on the tackle is number 16, Darren Glazier. Glazier somehow came up with a football but the ball had been blown dead or the play had been blown dead. Put it at the 23. Gain of about 4 yards on the play field. Second down about 6 yards to go and Sean Hutchinson has put together a dandy day. Mike Hutchinson's had an excellent day. Had over 100 yards for a while ago. I think we can add on looks like another 1012 yards. So he's up around 100 ten hundred fifteen yards on the day and he's having a good game and so is Nate or excuse me, Brent Nyberg on a couple of great catches for some TDs. Sean Hutchinson making a good, good display for possibly being our offensive player of the game. Handoff again goes to Sean Hutchinson inside the 20 yard line, down near the 18 yard line. Brent Nyberg has to be considered also for our KDXU offensive player of the game. Each the offensive defensive players of the game will receive a beautiful trophy from Dixie Trophy at the next Colonels Club meeting. Put that down at the 18 yard line or at the 19 yard line. I should say gain of market at the 19 after the carry by Sean Hutchinson. Make it third down and a long two to go, almost three back to pass. Kai Capelli has Brent Nyberg complete. Nyberg touchdown. Nyberg squirmed away from Adams and went right in for the touchdown. Brett Nyberg with the pass reception from Kai Capelli. So no, Brooke Burley will not get the record for most touchdown passes. Guy Capella has his first, but Brett Byberg now has the record for the most touchdown pass receptions in a Rotary bowl game. With 13:14 left in the game, Dixie gets their first score of the second half, 40 to nothing and once again Dixie goes over the 40 point barrier in a victory. It seems like they have to score at least 40 to win. The kick is up by Lemon is a good make it 41 to nothing Dixie 13:14 left in a game. Back in 60 seconds. University of Utah MARCHING BAND the kick coming down on the ensuing kickoff comes down to Gofflin. Gofflin carrying the ball out in front of him, goes from the 11 yard line up across the 20 down near the 31 yard line. Goplan holding the ball, cradling it in his hands right in front of him and holding his hands out away from him. It looked like he was ready prepared to hand the turkey roast to the latest customer. It was. It was strange way of carrying the football. But he got the yardage. He got the yardage. He said. Interesting style. But at this point acts like he's trying to do something to get somebody excited on that team. They've got to do something, get some points on the board. At least make it a little more respectable at this point. Wide receivers on each side. Jeff Lutz has gone all the way at quarterback. Fakes the handoff. Now faces. Fakes the pitch off. Hands off to Henderson. And is there a fumble on the play? There may have been. Did Dixie recover? It may have been Dixie on the recovery. And who comes up with it? It looks like. I'm not sure if it was John Anderson or number 45, James Streffing. It looks like John Anderson. Anderson might be one of our candidates for the defensive player of the game. We have Howard Reeves and Rich Cafousi. Sid Smith has also had an outstanding defensive day. James Stressing was in the middle of that also. Stressing really hasn't been involved in a whole bunch today. So on that first and 10 from the Inverhill 31 yard line, the fumble by Henderson. And with 13:01 left in the game, Dixie has it. First down and 10. Put it at the end of Hills 27 yard line. Handoff. And we have a little bit of a strange situation taking place in a quarterback. Is Daryl Davis normally a wide receiver. Davis in a quarterback and a little bit of handing off there. It looked like that Dave Morrison. Let's double check. Daryl Davis working at quarterback and Davis the quarterback now has been a wide receiver. Handoff on the play. Let's check. Trying to lead the way. They have some of the linemen in there right now experimenting around second down. Handoff. Fake the handoff. Davis on the. Keep Davis in a quarterback and Dixie with the. The lineman in there right now. Handoff from Davis. Fake the handoff. And on the keeper Davis with a flag on the play and it looks like it's going to be against him against Dixie or against Inverhills. Timeout by officials, by the officials mark it down to the 22 yard line penalty on the, on the play. And Daryl Davis maybe as a possibility for, for the future of getting a little work at quarterback. Davis has not done a whole bunch today, has not played at all today. Davis got down to the 22 yard line and let's see if the penalty is going to be marched off against Inver Hills. Yes, it will apparently march it down to about the 18 yard line. 19 yard line encroachment call. Down to the 195 yard penalty. And once again let's check our lineup in there. It looks like Dave Morrison is one of the running backs. It looks like a whole bunch of linemen in there right now. Back to pass. Daryl Davis lofts the pass towards the end zone. As it intercepted. Yes, it's intercepted by Inver Hills. And appropriately so, as it was a dead duck pass, it was thrown out there. Sean Bradford. Bradford finally got his pass. Interception. And so with 11:34 left in the ball game, Bradford gets the pass. Interception. It's first down and 10 and I think some of the Dixie fans, a lot of the Dixie fans have left. I think some of the Dixie fans are going to be rooting for Edward Hills to get some scores. Now put it at the Inver Hills three yard line. 11:34 left in the ball gate as Dixie. Getting an opportunity on defense. Now Lutes the quarterback. Let's check and see if it is Lutz again. Pass complete. No incomplete intended for Hawkins. Almost intercepted. Batted up into the air. Diving for it was number 52, John Nichols for Dixie College, playing his final game for the Rebel. Incomplete. A pass. Let's double check the quarterback number in there. I thought it was Jeff Lutz. Then it looked almost like a number five in there. But Mike Howard is a defensive back, so it must be Jeff Lutz. Incomplete. A pass intended for Hawkins still back at the Inverhills three yard line. Second down, 10 yards to go. Dixie in control, 41 to nothing. One's clear score here in the second half. 34 points put on the board in the first half. Shotgun formation. Lutz back to pass. Lutes pump. Pumps once, pumps twice. Fumble on the play. Is it recovered by Dixie and yes, who comes up with a touchdown. Lutz was drilled and it was recovered. It looks like number 78 is the man for Dixie. Mike Tooler. Mike Tuler on the fumble recovery for the touchdown with 11:23 left. Mike Tuler, who is finishing his career at Dixie as a sophomore, recovers for the touchdown. And tooler makes it 47 to nothing. Jeff Lutz is down. It's been a long day for the team. From Inver Hills. 11:23 left in the game. The score is now 47 to nothing and loot to sound. Let's take a 30 second break. 47 to nothing. Dixie leads with 11:23 left, will be back at 30 seconds. Jones Tater going quarterback, 48 to nothing. Dixie with the lead. Joe Lutz the tight end at the right side. New quarterback in there. No, that's Jeff Lutz. He's back in there. The pitch to the outside on a on the lateral pass and a loss on the play. Back to the 30 yard line and Inverhill's just not let up at all. The defense is just smother of Dixie has just smothered Inverhills. That pass was complete to number seven, Ruston Olson. Olson the receiver that time. Olson with a loss on the play after that reception from Lutz. So Olson okay or Lutz okay. Back to the Inverhills 30 yard line. Second down, 15 yards to go. And the Giants have been stymie. 10:36 left in the game. The pass coming to the right side goes to Hawkins. Trying to get away. Cannot at the 32 yard line. Smothered there by Sean Dunn. Done on the tackle. Up to the 32 yard line, a gain of about two yards on the play at the Inverhills 32. Make it third down, 13 yards to go. 10:16 left in the ball game. And let's see if we have an ineligible receiver down downfield. It looks like some signal by the official, Mike. I didn't see the flag though. And I still don't see the flag. I don't either. They're walking across the field now and discussing things with the head coach of Inver Hill. Trying to explain exactly what's going on over there. Now they've walked over to the Dixie side of the field and discussing things with them. So wherever the flag was thrown, I didn't see it go down either. They're explaining to everybody. So maybe the coaches and the players are like us. Where's the flag and what are we going on? Official timeout apparently, whatever the discussion is. 10:08 left in a ballgame. Dixie with a 48 to nothing lead. Ineligible receiver downfield. Or is it the official still signaling as if there should be a loss of down some way now they're marching off. What strange, strange situation. March it back to the 25 yard line, make it second down. So apparently on that pass reception a loss. They're going to redo that second down play. Second and 15, our correction. Second and 20. Back to the 25 yard line. Another loss of five yards. Screen pass complete to Henderson. Henderson back to the 30 yard line. Five yard penalty then. And so that's what took place. So Henderson on the screen pass, Still didn't see a signal from the official. Henderson on the screen pass. Get some yardage back up to about the 33 yard line. Mike, still haven't seen anything. I thought I did see the one. The head official did indicate that it was an ineligible receiver. So we'll go on the assumption that's what it was. The five yard mark off and we now have a big third down play coming up. And once again the whistle played it for some discussion. Third down, about 12 yards to go. Almost 13 yards to go. And the discussion by Dixie. Dixie wants to timeout 9, 27 left in the ball game. 48 to nothing. Dixie with the lead. Let's just take a 32nd break and we'll be right back looking at the 33 yard line. Third down and a long 12 coming up. Shotgun formation for Lutz. Two receivers to the left, three to the right. The pass comes outside to Wayne Hawkin. Talkin's trying to get away from some people. Dodges around James Stressing and is leveled at the 34 yard line. Brit Johnson on the tackle gets a round of applause from his teammates. Market at the 35 yard line. So the pass is complete. Dwayne Hawkins and Hawkins just totally bottled up today. Put it at the 35, gain of a couple of yards. Fourth down, about 10 yards to go. Almost 10 and a half yards to go. Punting situation once again. And Reese. Greg Reese is spent a lot of time on the field. The 62 freshman. It's a young Inver Hills ball club and that has to be part of the consideration today. The youth on this team, mostly a freshman ball club, but they do have some talent. The kick by Reese, this one boomed deep. Taken by Nate Hanson at his own 29 yard line. Hanson dodges at the 30, at the 32. Dodges once too often is going to be gang tackles back. So gain up near the 32 or to the 31 yard line. Hanson after the punt is driven hard back. 8 minutes 30 seconds left in the ball game. So Hanson, not much of a return. It's been the outcome of the game. Is getting less and less in doubt. Marketed near the 31 yard line. So a gain of a couple of yards from the Dixie 29 to the Dixie 31. First down and 10 for Dixie and the Rebels with a football. Let's check the quarterback this time. See if it's Scott Garrett or Kai Capella. It looks like Scott Garrett in there. Garrett handoff goes to double check and see if that's Copoya. By chance it's Rod Staley. Staley on the carry. So Garrett is in a quarterback. The freshman from Cedar City. Expected to go on an LDS Church mission after this year and then return in a couple of years. Gain of a couple of yards on the play by Staley. March it across the 33. About the 33 1/2 yard line. Second down, about 8 yards to go for Dixie. White to the right is Smith to the left is Brent Nyberg. Eye formation. Short of the 34. Third down, about 8 yards to go. 7:30 left in a ballgame and Dixie trying to battle the clock more than anything else. 48 to nothing. The game is pretty well on Dixie's side. It's just a matter of if Inverhills can score and if Dixie can fight the clock now. Back to pass, no draw. Play goes to Rod Staley. Staley at the 32 yard line. Loss of a yard on the play. Zach loss of about a yard makes his fourth down about nine yards to go. So Dixie content to let the clock run right now. Fourth down and nine. Back at the Dixie 32 yard line. And to do the kicking is Alan Carter. Back deep to receive. On the near side is John Tyson. Let's check the number on the far side. A little bit like the white jerseys of Weber State College. Just noticing that I had forgotten that Weber State actually has that sort of look to their jerseys on the away. Fair catch called for by Pison. The other man back there happened to be Ted Berry. So the fair catch called for. Inverhills takes over with 644 left in the ball game. Inver Hills will take over at their own 31 almost 32 yard line. Let's see where they mark it. Closer to the 32. First down and 10 at the Inverhills 32 yard line. Brent Nyberg, Sean Hutchinson, a couple of our offensive players of the game possibilities. Buzz Eckhart also I think has to be considered in there on the line and we'll be making a defensive player of the game selection also. Mike and I have both made our selections for the bowl committee. Half goes to the outside. Dwayne Hawkins gets away, staggers forward and close to a first down. Looks like he may have had it. Yes, he does. Across the 40, down near the 43 yard line. So Hawkins, one of the few times that they've been able to go to Hawkins and get the first down, Mike. Yeah, they've been trying that all afternoon long, Larry. Just unable to get an uncommon. That time it took a little extra effort by Hawkins to not only receive the pass, he had to turn to field leap and stumble forward to pick up the first down. It's going to be obviously too little too late, but be nice to see Inverhills put something together like a good drive. Six minutes left in the ball game. The snap coming back to quarterback Lutz. Lutz throws to the outside, has his receiver out. There is a complete no just into and out of the hands of Ted Berry. Berry almost with a spectacular catch, had it in his hands, in his fingertips, but as he hit the ground, it squirted away. Not enough for the reception. Trying to disguise that one as he was just kind of loping along for a while and then suddenly he took off, just full theme downfield and did, as you mentioned, Larry, just get a hand on. A defensive man, however, was in perfect condition there. The position to just get between the quarterback and the receiver and not allow him to get to the football. Second down, 10 yards to go. Just short of the 44 yard line. Across the 43 of Inverhills. Back into the shotgun formation again. Two receivers to the left, three to the right. Quick pass, has it on the outside. Let's see who's getting away for Inverhills. Squirting away, but not enough to get very far away. Enough for the first down though, is number eight. That's John Pison. Pison. After that reception, first down, put it into Dixie territory. March it down to the Dixie 41 yard line. First down and 10 for the Giants. 5, 36 left on the clock. Three receivers to the right, two to the left. And Inver Hills trying to get their first score of the game. Back to pass. Lutz throws, has it complete to his brother Jeff. Joe, I should say. University of Utah Marching band starting to go into the UNLV Shark attack right now. And with all of the concomitant inflections of arms, I think I've misstated some way. What'd you just say there? All I saw was a bunch of guys waving their arms in the air like look like a shark. I assume you were talking about that they're enjoying this football game. Of course, they came down from Salt Lake City. This is the warm weather to them. Second down, four yards to go at the 35 yard line. Pass complete. Inverhills will get the first down. They fumble it out of bounds, but it'll be enough for the first down. As Nate Hanson on the defensive side flung flying the receiver to the ground. John Tyson had the ball slip out of his hands and that's been a problem that Inverhills has suffered with this this day. Several times they've had that. But I think the Dixie defense a little bit is tackling the football sometimes as well, much as the player. That time, as you mentioned, he did just grab the player and flip him around and the ball went flying to the ground. But fortunately for Inverhills, also went out of bounds. First down and 10 at the Dixie 30 yard line. Inver Hills looking for their first score. Shotgun formation again, Inverhills, nothing but the pass. There is the. The raw pass comes to Wayne Hawkins. Enough for a first and goal. Yes. Down to the five yard line as, as Jeff Lutz looked up, he saw nothing but red jerseys pouring through that offensive line. Just lofted the pass to Wayne Hawkins and that's one of the few times today Hawkins has been able to show what he's been made of all year. He actually battles it back there. I think Bridge Johnson, defensive back had a hold of the football as well, but he ripped it away to gain control and finally get down again. You said on the five yard line, but that was a good read to see that pressure coming and just fling that ball up in the air. Hope his man could get to it. And he did. 432 left in the ball game. Inver Hills, no timeout by Dixie. 48 to nothing. Dixie with the lead back in 60 seconds. Hello again, it's me, your Inver Hills first and goal. The pass deflected, almost intercepted. John Anderson got a hand up there as did John Nichols. Anderson also might be one of our considerees for the defensive player of the game, Mike, as Anderson's had an outstanding day, a lot of the defense and we could almost give it to the entire team because that Dixie defense is, I think even though there's a lot of points on the board for Dixie offense, a part of that is because the defense has played so well for Dixie. So a lot of names we can bring up and I think we're going to have to put our heads together and come up with just one name out of the Many and give them that honor. 426 left in the game. Second down, goal to go at the five yard line. Turned out to be a very long game, but you expected that. With primary passing team in Inverhills Community College. Everyone's in tight right now. Quarterback loots, lobs the pass. It's deflected again. And I think John Anderson is the man that had the hand on it. Again intended for Wayne Hawkins in the end zone. Hawkins and Johnson back there. The twice that pass has been deflected at the line of scrimmage. And I think it was John Anderson again. Mike, it looked to be from here. Hard to see a lot of red shirts down there. And that ball fell about 10 yards shy of the intended receiver. So obviously someone got up and got a hand on it. And Dixie, I think the reason they called that defense is these, these defensive players, they want the shutout. A national, national announcer a while back made the comment that it's getting a little bit tougher to find defensive linemen to come in with their hands up. But it doesn't seem to be that way in Dixie. The path into the end zone, incomplete. Hawkins thought he had it in the end zone, dragging his feet and he's upset. He had the completion into his hands, but he was standing out of bounds and Hawkins so close, he's upset. He thought he had it. And the official standing right there looking at the sideline. Hawkins did everything he could possibly do. We saw him, he looked down, he saw exactly where the sideline was. He drugged both feet, he got his hands up in the air. But the official give him credit, he was right on top of play and he watched it extremely close. And apparently according he was on that end line. Do you want just the score or do you want the touchdown? It's a third down coming up, listed as third and goal. Back to pass as it complete into the end zone on the right side. Pass complete. Dwayne Hawkins. This one goes and the Fans love it. 48 to 6 with 4:13 left in the game. 48, 6. Nate Hanson goes over it, shakes hands with Wayne Hawkins, and Hawkins gets the handshake. 48 to 6. Inver Hills gets the score. It's lopsided enough right now, but Inver Hills gets the score. And so they'll go home with a score at the end of the ball game. Dixie's had a tendency to do that this year. They've roughed up a team very well. And then right at the end of the game, a team able to get a Score or two against them to do the kicking. Looks to be Darren Glazier, defensive back to do the holding. Number eight, John Tyson, take the hold, back to pass into the end zone. Two point conversion. Let's double check. Is that nine? No, that's number nine. Tom Amelzi, the reserve quarterback. Complete to Joe Luke, the tight end for the two point conversion. So with 4:13 left in a game, it's 48 to 8, Dixie with the lead back in 60. Look for the name, the number of the ballplayer who may be down and coming to the sidelines. It looks like number 96 or 86. 96. It may be the long goings. The all American candidate, number 96 is down and injured. So inside the five yard line, second down goal to go for Dixie. 305 left in the game. Terry Weekley back in there on the left side as a receiver. High formation on the running backs. You have to look for the run right. Scott Garrett, the quarterback. Long count at the line of scrimmage. Handoff goes to Lanier, hurdles forward, met at midair at about the one yard line. Look like a two year old jumping at his grandmother. They caught in midair inside the one yard line. So Veneer is getting getting plenty of airtime right now. Any more solo hours and he might get his license. Third down, goal to go. Mike. I don't know how I can follow up on that one. He did hurdle. He too went high and he was hit. Just got that goal line and held. Just shy so that they have just inches to go for six more points. 224 left in the game. Dixie. Third and inches, third and goal. Handoff goes to Lanier. Once again in the air. This time he broke the plane of the goal line. Touchdown Fenders Lanier and Prentice. Lanier gets the TD. Make it 54 to 8 with 214 left in the game. 6 seat with the lead and once again the cannon goes off. Hark, is that a cannon I hear? That reminds me of an old story, but I'm not going to use that. It's time for the point after by Frank Lemon. All old theater people are laughing right now. Both of them. It's 54 to 8. 2:14 left in the ball game and Frank Clemon to do the kicking. It's been a long day for Inver Hills and it began with a couple of mistakes and Dixie never let up. Bad snap. Lemon will pick it up and try to run with a fumble on the play. Picked up by Inver Hills. But it's down failure on the point after that time. Never even got a chance to kick that time. Lemon. So with 2:13 left in the game, it's 54:8. Dixie out in front, back in 60 seconds. His own three yard line has had some good run backs. Catch to the outside at the 20 yard line. Goblin trying to turn the corner at the 25, trying to cut back, slips and goes down at the 27 yard line there on the coverage for Dixie we have a number three out there and we're getting some new numbers in there that we haven't seen for a while for Dixie. I'm not sure if that's Kenny De Lima or not. That might have been Kenny De Lima, our number 85 come to think of it. We've been looking for who was in a running back position. Dilemma is normally a wide receiver. I think that's who it was. So run back from the three yard line back out to the 26 yard line. First down and 10 at the Inverhill 26 yard line in motion. Wayne Hawkins left to right, back to pass. Amelsi, the new quarterback in there. And it's complete down to Joe Lutz. So Melzi, the quarterback, let's double check. I believe that's number nine of Meltzing and it seems to be to Joe Lutz, the tight end. So the brothers Lutz have had quite a day today. Jeff has had a lot of red jerseys landing in his lap all day. And for Joe he's had some struggles today but has played fairly well given all of the conditions. Inverhill, second down, put it at the 31 yard line. Second down and a long five coming up almost six. Amelsi throws the pass incomplete there on the pressure once again, Tim Lyman on the incompleted pass by AMELSI. It'll be third down coming up. Third down about almost six yards to go actually as it's closer to the 30 yard line than it is to the 31 yard line. So it's third down coming up. Third down, about six yards to go. Coming up for Inverhills. Tralee by a healthy score. The little look in pattern has it complete enough for the first down. Yes, there on the reception, John Tyson, 58 seconds left and the pass completion up to the 40 yard line. Inverhills 40. First down and 10 for the Giants stops the clock. Now the clock is running again with 56 seconds left in the game. Inver Hills has put forth a game effort today, but it has been not quite enough against the Dixie defense. Dixie's defense has Been stifling today. Amelsi the quarterback into that shotgun formation. First down and 10. The pass incomplete, dropped by Nelson. Running back Tim Nelson, incompleted pass. Make a second down, 10 yards to go at the Inverhills 40 yard line. Lot of yardage picked up today by Dixie. A lot of defensive yardage prevented by the Dixie defense today as Inverhills, normally a good passing ball club, has been stymied today. 34 seconds away from victory. Dixie with a 54 to 8 lead and just the clock to worry about right now. Inverhill second down, 10 yards to go at their own 40 yard line. Amelsi back to pass. Pumps once, pumps twice, throws deep over the middle. Almost intercepted by Nate Hanson. Hanson with a deflection. It was headed right there to Dedrick Henderson. Henderson, the intended receiver, but it was deflected away from Henderson. Incompleted pass and Hanson the saving deflection that time. Mike. Beautiful hands by Hanson. Did a good job just getting a hand up there and tipping away from the intended receiver. It's just been a total defense. I can't say enough about the defensive Dixie this afternoon. They put a lot of different players in there and they stood to the test every time. And the defense has really stood up. And of course you look at the scoreboard, you say, well the offense has done pretty good themselves as well. Wide receivers on each side. Shotgun formation again by the quarterback. Back to pass. Melti throwing deep to the outside out there, too far. Leading the intended receiver, I believe that was Wayne Hawkins again out there on the coverage was Nate Hanson. There are only 23 seconds left in the game. Another incompleted pass and it'll be fourth down, 10 yards to go at the Inver Hills 40 yard line. Fourth down, 10 yards to go. Inver Hills is going to go for it. With 23 seconds left, Dixie will just sit on the football. Otherwise, three receivers to the right, two to the left. And trying to find his way out There is number 28. That's Mike Merwin. Amelzi back to pass, will be under pressure, throwing to the outside. Incompleted pass with 19 seconds left, Dixie takes over 54 to 8. It's all over but the final 19 seconds right now as Dixie will come away the victors of the Rotary Bowl. The Sunbrook Dixie Rotary bowl, first time with a corporate sponsor of Sunbrook development. Third year of the Dixie Rotary Bowl. First down and 10 for Dixie. Put it at the Dixie 40 yard line. Coming to the sidelines, the Dixie defense, they've done the job today. Dixie wants to Start the clock. They do. And the final 19 seconds kick off the clock. That's the end of the ball game. Dixie with a 54 to 8 victory over Inver Hills College of Minnesota. Dixie goes three and all in the Rotary Bowl. Let's take a 90 second break. We'll be back with the the awards to the two teams. The most valuable player awards back in 90 seconds back at the Hanson Stadium where Dixie has come up with a 548 victory. Dixie, an overwhelming victory. And really the fate was sealed early on. Inverhills two turnovers early and Dixie produced scores off of both of them. And Mike, from that point on, it was all downhill for the Giants. It really was. They took over early, they made some early mistakes. And of course you mentioned earlier in the ball game that coaches like to see their teams take advantage of mistakes. And that really kind of set the tone for the ball game. The Giants made the mistakes, Dixie capitalized on those mistakes, got the scores early. And it was just simply an uphill battle and one that Invor Hills could not come back from. They're on the road, they're a long way from home. But they found a very tough and talented team in Dixie. And you mentioned the first two, first time that these two conferences have matched up in any way. And I think at least at this year, at this particular time, the Western States Football League will have to be very happy to know that they perhaps are one of the dominant teams, at least one of the dominant regions in the junior college circuit in the Western States Football League history. Only one loss in bowl action and that coming last year at the Valley of the sun against a very good Navarro team from Texas Mesa College, narrow loss to Navarro. Everything else has been a victory for the Western States Football League. Now possibility of two national championships. Know a couple of years ago, Glendale, the odds on favorite this year, undefeated, number one ranked in the next at the last bowl and defeated the number three ranked team in the nation. Let's see if we can pick up the awards. Suddenly they stop talking. We're waiting for our award ceremonies now. Randy Wilkinson and Jim Coleman of the Rotary Poll Committee. We need to thank Jim Coleman and his fines. Come, Jim. The head of the Dixie Rotary Bowl, Sunbrook Dixie Rotary Bowl Committee this year organizing committee. Randy Wilkinson, John Watcott, John Palmer, who organized the parade. There's a whole list if you look in your program, if you happen to have one of outstanding men who have been involved in this for the Rotary Club and leaders from throughout the community throughout Dixie have been involved in Putting this together for the Rotary Committee. I name names, Will, which is the thing you shouldn't do because you always leave names out, right? Yeah, you always do. You always get caught there. Larry. I might just quickly. And their wives will let me know. Absolutely. Just a couple of interesting statistics. In the ball game, Hutchinson had 18 carries for 129 yards. Staley, 13 carries for 43 yards. Brent Nyberg, six catches, 102 yards and three touchdowns. This afternoon, Brooke Burley, before he was taken out of the ball game, I had him down unofficially, 16 passes, eight completions. So hitting 50% of his passes and just some outstanding performances. And then on the defensive side, it's just a who's who as you can pick here this afternoon. Let's see if we can get the award ceremony now. Gentlemen Corporation gentlemen, we appreciate your participation in our third annual Dixie Rotary bowl and would like to award to Coach Kipper of the Denver Health Community College College our consolation trophy. And thank these outstanding athletes and representatives from their school and in participation of this goal this year. We have your hand for the Inver Hills College and from the Dixie fans for Enver Hills, Brent Jeffers, the the coach for the Enver Hills Giants. Picking up the trophy right now, the Dixie College Rebels and coach Greg K. For the third consecutive year, Dixie. The victor in the Rotary Ball has been determined by the working press here today and would like to recognize two outstanding athletes, one from each school. As I read your name, would you please come over and receive your award? From Inver Hill, Earl Duncklin, number 44, Earl Dunklin. The man we chose is the linebacker, the most valuable player for Edver Hill and Brent Nyberg for Dixie College as the respective most valuable players. Brent Nyberg and Earl Dunklund. Earl Dunklund for Inver Hills and Brent Nyberg, who had a great day today for Dixie College. And let's see if there are any more announcements from chairman Jim Coleman. Max Brotherson of the Sunbrook Corporation presenting Dunklin and Nyberg with the awards. No question about it, Mike. Brent Nyberg, one of the considerees also for our Offensive Most Valuable Player award. Brent really had a good day and in fact I think you picked one of his catches as the play of the game earlier right towards the end of the first half. And again I had him unofficially six catches, 102 yards and three touchdowns. Now that's an afternoon. And of course Brent has got many accolades from the region Western States Football League Conference, I should say as well. And he's just had a tremendous year as well as the entire Dixie College Rebel. So a perfect camping to a perfect day. Congratulations to Brent Nyberg and also congratulations to Earl Duncan as the mvp. Let's take a break now. We'll be back and recap the score and hopefully have a chance to talk with Coach Kent. Greg Croshaw victorious Coach Dixie defeating Inverhills 58, 54 to 8 in the third annual Sunbrook Dixie Rotary Bowl. We'll be back after this break with a recap of the action and the talk with Coach Greg Croshaw back the new Winnebagos are in at Motorsports Land and they would like to introduce the totally new Chieftain. The new Chieftain is the first high storage motorhome to surpass the style and handling of a traditional motorhome. See all the new features, Stop by today and enjoy the new Chieftain's responsive handling, admire its handsome lines and compare its I think it was Hawkins who caught that. I think the fans realized that Hawkins had worked hard all day long and he just missed that on the previous play where he did everything possible to haul that ball in for the touchdown. Missed it come back the other side and and that was I think good support by the local fans here to give credit to a kid who really is an outstanding player and just had a tough day today. Dixie really probably sealed the fate for Inverhills when on a punting situation Inverhills didn't cover the wide receiver Dallin Carter threw the pass that turned into a 59 yard touchdown pass from punter Dallin Carter to a young man who is a converted wide receiver. Nate Hanson has been playing as a defensive back and Hanson main due for 59 yards in the TD. The point after goodbye Lemon. And that made it 20 to nothing with 827 left in the first quarter. Dixie able to add one more touchdown before the quarter ended on a 19 yard touchdown run by Sean Hutchinson. 351 left in the first quarter. That made it 27 to nothing after the point after by Lemon and that was the way the first quarter ended. Ah, I see the I am a Utah band being played now and the Utah fans standing all four of them here. There's normally BYU country down here, but the red and white of the University of Utah is being honored today. Brings back memories of the old school Mike. Well I didn't go to that old school and you went to another one. You went to another old school. But the fans are really enjoying this and I'll tell you this has really added a lot to the festivities here to bring down a fine band like the University of Utah with marching band. And they're, they're enjoying this as much as anything. You know, they could be anywhere performing like this, but I don't think they could get the reception like they are here from the local fans. So it's been just a tremendous couple of days here. The bowl committee has done another outstanding job. 27 to nothing. Dixie led at the end of the first quarter. Our JJ building supply key play of the game came with 13 seconds left in the second quarter after Inver Hills had gotten some momentum really defensively by shutting down Dixie. Dixie was able to get a 34 yard touchdown pass from Brooke Burley to Brent Nybrick that tied the record for most touchdown passes in the, in the Rotary Bowl. Dixie Rotary bowl contest. And Bertley tying his own record which he shares with three or four other quarterbacks as we mentioned, Naomi Capella, Mike Gammell, Mike Millis of Independence and so that's, it's another tie there. But the touchdown pass to Brent Nyberg with 13 seconds left in the half is our JJ building supply play of the game. So take note of that then be listening to XV Kelly Show Monday through Friday next week between 6 and 10am and you could win some prizes on KDXU. That ended the first half after the point after by Lemon. Lemon at 34 to nothing and that's the way it stayed all through the third quarter. The secret there in the third quarter. Inverhills had been able to stop Dixie, but Dixie would not was also able to keep Inver Hills at bay. Dixie began the fourth quarter by putting together actually ended the third quarter by beginning a touchdown drive that included a personal foul at the at the hands of Doug Wyckoff. Wyckoff, the center for Dixie committed to personal foul that moved Dixie back to a first and 25 situation from the Inverhills 47 yard line and a pass to pick up five of those yards. But the fourth quarter began with a first and 20 situation, a second and 20 situation I should say for Dixie and 15 yard penalty made it first and 10. Sean Hutchinson took it to the 23 yard line of Inver Hills. Hutchinson took it down to the 19 yard line and then the touchdown pass from Kai Capelli to Brent Nyberg. The record breaking pass reception the point after was good by Lemon with 13:14 left in the ball game and it stood at 41 to nothing and Dixie was in high gear at that point. Another fumble, this one by Diedrich Henderson cut short a drive that was trying to get underway by Inverhills. And then after a pass interception by Sean Bradford that put the football at the Inverhills three yard line after an incomplete pass by Jeff Lutz. Then Lutz was drilled in the end zone, fumbled the football. Mike Tooler fell on it for the touchdown and Mike Tuller finished out his career with a touchdown. And then the point after was missed. That made it 47 to nothing for Dixie. The next correction that made it. Yes, that made it 47 to nothing at that point. And then Dixie was able to put together another score to make it 54 to nothing on the touchdown run by or 54 to eight on the touchdown run by Prentice Lanier from one yard out. The final score for Inver Hills. The only score for Inver hills came with 4:13 left in the ball game on the touchdown pass from Jeff Lutz to Wayne Hawkins. And the All American receiver from Inver Hills got that touchdown. The point after ended up as two point conversion from Tom Melsy to Joe Lutz, the twin brother of quarterback Jeff Lutz. That made it 48 to 8 and Dixie added the last touchdown 54 to 8. Coach Greg Croshaw wild game today. Turnovers told the tale early. Well, I think, yeah, you know, we set the tone pretty early there with both the pass rush and the ability to pick off a couple of balls early. And we really got in the flow of things defensively and I think that made it very difficult. Anytime you get the lead there early like that, then it makes the pass rush even that much easier because you know what's happening. And we pretty well knew they were going to pass anyway. But when you get ahead like that then you really can pin your ears back and get after them. And I think they really had some trouble handling Baker and Kofusi and Anderson and our big guys up front because we were able to turn them loose and physically I think a little bigger than what they maybe have seen pretty regularly in their league. We were going to make a defensive selection defensive player of the game, but there's about a 12 way tie for first there. A lot of good defensive efforts today. Well, it really was and like I said, I think that was the key was our ability to mix up the rush from a three all the way to an eight man rush. And it seemed like we were pretty much getting pressure no matter which way we went and we knew we had to do that because Lutz is really a fine quarterback and their strength is their skill pick. I don't think there's Any question, the receivers and Lutz has a tremendously strong arm. He's a heck of an athlete. He comes scrambling out there and hurt us a little bit with the runs early and we finally got that under control. But, you know, that's, I think, a heck of a learning process for the people in Inver Hills. You know, they took them 36 hours to get here, and I think they've really taken their time and, you know, and then went to Zion and that's a long ways to come and play a football game, go through some of the things they've gone through and then come out and get behind early is pretty difficult. But again, it was fun for us to compare talent with somebody out of a new part of the country. And I think it obviously won't hurt us as maybe the word gets out as to how this ball game went for Inver Hill, the relatively young ball club, but they do have talent. Yeah, I told coach Jeffers at the end, you know, it was not too long ago that I had a mostly freshman club and, you know, he went five and five. And I'll guarantee that this will be a learning experience for those kids and one that I think will make them a better football program as they start their off season training and their recruiting. And I think they have a little better idea maybe what it takes. And I wouldn't be surprised to see that Inver Hills team bounce back and have another real fine year next year. One of the questions that we have a little bit, we've been looking about the defensive player of the game. They're. Let's talk about some of the candidates. John Anderson for once. Yeah, you know, I really don't know. I'm kind of at a loss. Baker, Kofusi, Reeve had interception Valley again. I mean, you can go about any way you want there and be pretty, pretty successful. I think John Anderson is a young man that started for us, had some problems with a separated shoulder, and I think he'd be a fine choice at the end of the year. So I think maybe we ought to go with John Anderson. And he had a lot of sacks, especially late in the ball game when Inverhills was starting to put together a little momentum after they had stopped you defensively. Yeah. And, you know, I tried to let him play in there and because he's a sophomore, of course, we went with the elephant offense there and had Kafousi and some of the guys, let them run the ball once for their career. And, you know, John stayed in there and really did a Fine job. He's had a great career here, and I think that'd be an excellent choice. So, John Anderson, our defensive player of the game. Offensively, Brent Nyberg got the Most Valuable player award, but Sean Hutchinson will probably also deserve something there. Well, yeah, you know, Brent got, of course, the nice plaque for the game, and I would think that would be sufficient. I think there's a lot of ways you could go, maybe Sean Hutchinson or possibly one of those big offensive linemen again. But he did, I think. I don't know what his stats are, but he ran the ball extremely well, and I would think he probably was over 100 yards. I really don't know, but I think he's certainly been a big key to our success this year. Two touchdowns today. That side of record. How many yards did we have? Mike, you had those over there, if I whirled around here correctly, 129 yards and 18 carries. Not too shabby. No, it's a fine day's effort, and he ran extremely hard. I think that he would be very deserving also. So Sean Hutchinson, our offensive player of the game, with the two touchdowns today, 129 yards gained. John Anderson, our defensive player of the game, will both receive beautiful trophies from Dixie Trophy for the victory. You now go 8 and 3 on the year. That's really not a bad record. No, you know, yeah, sometimes you, you know, you compare it with 11 and ones, and obviously it doesn't stack up too good with that, but I'm not sure how many people have 11 and 1 years very often. I think if you take an 11 and 3 and play the way we did when we were healthy, and I think that plays a big part in the outcome of games. Anybody has to have a little bit of luck, I believe, along with good effort and good kids and, you know, to finish 8 and 3 to win a fifth bowl game, to win the third Rotary bowl game, just. I think they deserve a tremendous amount of credit. I've said all along, and I still believe that this is probably without a doubt one of my favorite teams, if not the favorite, because of the kinds of personalities involved all the way from each end of the spectrum. But one thing they've all had in common was they pulled together, they worked extremely hard, and whether we won or lost, they. I don't think ever played out there without giving us everything they had. And I think that really sets this group apart maybe for many others. And, you know, like I say, 8 and 3 is pretty darn good work. There's a lot of people around the country that would trade for that record. And I'm very pleased, a little disappointed, you know, when you look back and say what could have been or what if or whatever. But you can't, you know, it's over. It's 8 and 10. And I think that's very respectable. Very good. And I'm very pleased with the effort and especially with today's effort and topping it off. And it'll be a heck of a lot nicer and shorter winter as we're out in the recruiting trail, having ended up with, you know, some good, positive things here at the end of the season with a bowl game and win against Phoenix, the last regular season game. Now, if you look at those three losses, one of those losses to the team that looks like it'll be the national champ. Yeah. And. And Mr. Baker told me as I was coming off the field how impressed he was with the caliber of play here and how that must speak for our league and that it'll come out Tuesday. But Brent Nyberg and also Howard Reeve are first team and jcaa, all Americans, which, you know, I think they feel like I do and that that's, you know, the reason they were able to do those things, because of the fine team effort they had behind them. But it's also a great honor for them, and I think something is very deserving and something that they can take with them for the rest of the rest of their lives and be very proud of. Pleased with the season, really, all in all. Oh, yeah, really. I, you know, like I say, you'd like to be the conference champ, you'd like to be the national champ. But, hey, you know, it was a great year. I really appreciate the efforts and by many, many people, from the administration on down to the parents, the kids, everybody involved, the assistant coaches especially, and probably the people that have to put up with the most abuse and get the very least credit, the wives of all the coaches who don't see their husbands very often during fall. And, you know, it's just been a very supportive group, the addition of Kelly Smith to go along with, you know, Gordon Jolly and Pete Van Valkenburgh and Mike Pearson. And then we had Autumn, who was a tremendous help this year with the DBs and everybody involved right on down the line, I think can be very proud of this group, and I think they represented Dixie College and St. George and the state of Utah very well as they traveled and played this year, and I'm just really proud of them. Western State's football league, only one narrow loss that in The Valley of the sun last year to a very strong Navarro team out of Texas, Mike Mesa College. All the bowl games have been victorious for Western State's football league. It's phenomenal. You know, when you really stop and think about it, I believe the record's 11, 11 wins and one loss out of 12 bowl games in the last four years. Two national champions, a second place finish and a third. We have the honor of being the third place, but. And then many other high finishes. The year we were had a second place finish. We were third that year. So I think it speaks very highly and, you know, there deserves to be a lot of credit given to the people who formed that league. And I think, you know, there's some problems. There's scholarship differentials, there's travel. But all in all, I think all the problems are minute compared to the many pluses that it's brought to the league and the individual schools that participate in it. I don't think there's any question it's got to be considered the strongest junior college football league in the country. Coach Greg Croshaw, congratulations on the very victory today. You're five. And oh, in bowl games. Well, that, you know, that credit goes to a heck of a lot of people from way back and some are second generation, you know, the Reeves, the Kafousis, the, you know, and those are important things, I think, because kids play and they feel good about the program and then maybe brothers want to come through. And I really feel proud of that fact and the support. Geez, what a great crowd we had here today. A tremendous amount of credit needs to go to again to the people, the members of the Rotary Club. I hope it's worked out for them because I don't think there's any question. This is really a super event, big crowd and a festive occasion. That University of Utah band was great. And it just you know, really was. Was a tremendous afternoon. I'm sure some of the fans would like to see a little closer one, but I'm thankful for a little rest after those first two. And I think, you know, Larry, I'd like to thank you and the people that KDXU for all they do. It's a pleasure each year and sometimes it's a little tough coming up here, but for the most part it's been enjoyable and we've been on the upper hand. And, you know, the people who listen and tune us in, we're very thankful for them and the sponsors and everybody involved. So we'll look forward to doing it. Again next year and hopefully we can have some successes and just keep this ball rolling. So I'd like to say thanks to everybody, especially, like I say to you and the people involved. So it's been a great year and I think now just carry on with basketball. I can see a tremendous amount of talent there and I hope, you know, wish them good luck, of course, starting tonight with csi, big ballgame, and maybe they can end up in the national tournament and just keep things right on rolling. Thanks very much, Coach. Greg Kroshaw victorious coach tonight. Lacey, did you enjoy this year? Yes. Okay, Lacy Croshaw, we got a yes out of her. All right, Mike, once again, briefly, the statistics, final stats. We'll pull them out of the book here. We had Hutchinson, who, Shawn, who you picked, and Coach Croshaw as the, I guess the player of the game offensively for Dixie College this afternoon. 18 carries, 129 yards, and he really did not play a lot in the second half. So he had a. Could have had perhaps a lot more yards, but did a good job. Rod Staley, 13 carries for 43 yards. He became the workhorse early in the second quarter. They didn't use Hutchinson a lot, did not play a lot in the second half. Brent Nyberg is one of the receivers in outstanding day. Six catches, 102 yards, three touchdown, set of records there was named as the MVP. And I think I had one other one I was going to pass along. Brook Burley, eight completions out of 16 passes. And he also did not play a lot in the second half. As the coach mentioned. He got a lot of chance to get a lot of kids into the ball game. I was pleased to hear the coach talk like that or something. Seniors on the team who. Some seniors, excuse me, some sophomores on the team who he let stay in there for a while as their last collegiate game, at least on this level. And they got to see a lot of playing time and the crowd, really, even though the score was pretty lopsided, I'm sure enjoyed it. They like to see the home team win and they prefer maybe the pulling out of the hat type, but they must prefer to see this one than a loss, I'm sure, for Dixie College. Mike McGarry, thank you. Been a lot of fun. It has been a lot of fun. It's been a while since I've been up here in the booth with you, Larry, but actually this is my first Rotary bowl game. I've been able to see two previous years. Two years ago, I was out of town doing some high school basketball tournaments up in Northern Utah. A year ago I was on the road with Dixie College basketball in Idaho. So my first opportunity, I didn't get to see the close games, but I enjoy this just as much. Anyway. Great. Mike McGarry with us. Jeff Wall back at the station. We appreciate his help and get keeping us on the air. We appreciate our sponsors of this third annual Sunbrook Dixie Rotary bowl and helping to bring you this broadcast. And I appreciate my daughter April, who helped us out immensely today. He really has helped us out a whole bunch. Final score once again, Dixie College defeating Inver Hills College of Minnesota 54 to 8 to go 8 and 3 on the year. Inverhills falls to 6 and 3 on the year. Dixie with the victory today 30 in Dixie Rotary bowl contest. Larry Jewell thanking you for listening and reminding you that tonight 7:15 broadcast time, Dixie College Basketball Dixie versus CSI, followed immediately by the Utah Jazz and the Sacramento Kings. So we still have more sports action. We'll move over to the Burns arena in just a few moments till we hear from each other again tonight at 7:15. Final score, Dixie 54, Inverhills 8. Take care now. You. It.
