Lifted to left field. Coming in is Ellison, now fading back. And Ellison has it all the way for the third out to retire the site. So the one out double by Mike Clark brings home a run. One run on no hits, no errors and a man left at the end of four and a half. It's a five to four lead for Dixie over Volunteer State. Back after this timeout. They scored 21 runs in two ball games. Dixie has scored 12 and two ball games. Actually 25 and three ball games for Volunteer State. Power men of the order, 3, 4, 5 hitters Brad Parker, KL Sheppard, Wyatt Cloward. First pitch to Parker in the dirt. Ball one. No warm up action now by Volunteer State. Gearing is back in apparently for the duration. Wind blowing in a little bit from. Well, if you look at the center field flag, it looks like from left center. The pitch to Parker down low. Ball two. If you look at the flags over behind third base, it's blowing straight in from right field. Well, there's a little swirling effect and the ball's been known to carry out of here. Only one home run so far in this ball game. Buggy Sudbury has that his fifth of the year. That gave Dixie a 2 to 1 lead. Brad Parker at the plate. The pitch by Gearing in the dirt. Ball three, Brad Parker, who doubled his last time up. First hit of the juco. A two run double at that as he went the other way into the right field corner. Do you turn Brad Parker loose on a 30 count? May do the pitch. Yes you do. And Parker hits it nine miles into the air and out of the park. In right field, Brad Parker. I'm not sure where that hit except the right fielder looked up, looked up and watched. And it's out there in the parking lot. Someplace. Brad Parker with home run number 19 on the year. And I mean he hit that one a ton up and out. It was lost to everybody. It may have been called a home run just because it didn't come down. Brad Parker makes it a 6 to 4 lead. So Dixie has matched the run and a third RBI of the day by Parker. So Parker now has tied Brian Conley with 19 home runs on the year. As far as the leading home run hitters in the tournament, Parker number 19 and RBI number 74. He has three today. The pitch hit by shepherd high in the air to center field. Going back is Doug hall straightaway centered now and has it all the way. So one man out. Dixie has brought that run back back to a two run lead, six to four. Parker hit that one a ton to right field on a 30 pitch and Gordon Jolly been known to turn him loose at three and oh did so again and that time he jumped all over it with both feet. Wyatt Cloud, one man out and run in the pitch hit hard to center field. Doug hall going back, still drifting back now has his eyes on it. And so Wyatt Cloud got under that one. Dixie back to back, long fly balls, not that long to center field after the solo home run. Troy Tuttle coming to the plate. Tuttle reached on a fielder's choice, flight out to right field. Two men out, Bottom of the fifth inning. Warm up action again by Volunteer Estate. This is do or die for both teams. Breaking pitch hit by Tuttle off the fifth. That one may drop high in the air. That one is going to be a single at first base. Strickland, hall and the shortstop Conley all came together and that went equidistant between them all. So a little pop fly single for Troy Tuttle. So a two out single and Skeeter Ellison coming to the plate. Ellison, who is 2 for 3 in Game 1, is 0 for 2 with two strikeouts against Jay Gearing. And whatever Gearing is doing to Ellison right handed is work so far. Ellison about due against Gearing because Ellison has hit right handers very well this year on the season. Ellison number three, RBI man 387 average coming into this ballgame. Breaking pitch hit towards the third baseman. McGuire will juggle it. Have to make the long throw. Not in time. Will it be an error or a base hit? It was deep behind third base. Close play. And let's see if they give the error of the base hit. They're going to go with the error. So that's the first one by Volunteer State. So Ellison on by way of the error, Dixie has committed 12 in two ball games. That is the 11th in three ball games for Volunteer State. McGuire had it behind third base. It might have been iffy anyway if he'd come up with the throw, but had a pop out of his glove and had to reach for it again. And so the error on the third baseman, Brad Thorne at the plate. Fouled out. Flyed out. He's over. Two men on it. Second and first. Leadoff home run by Parker and then everything else with two men out. Pitch misses ball one. The bottom end of the order provided most of the cloud against St. Louis Merrimack and has been red hot in the district tournament too. But not so much today. The pitch fouled straight back. Strike one. The bottom end of the order has been handled by gearing rather well. One, One count Dixie threatening again. Hurt warming up again for Volunteer State. Keith Hurt right handed. Pitcher down in the bullpen. Nobody being held on. Pitch up. Ball two, two, one count to Brad Thorne. Justin Garrett waiting on deck. Garrett has been dangerous with men in scoring position. Brad Thorne not quite as open a stance right handed as he used to have the pitch Chop foul. Sinking curveball just fouled off towards the Dixie dugout. Two, two count Dixie got the toss, got the home field advantage. Moves into the third base dugout. Volunteer stayed in the first base dugout. It used to be that you would get whoever had the choice of home or away. The other team would have the choice of dugouts. Volunteers bait. Are they superstitious? No. At bat. If their hitters are up, they start tapping the temple of their head on their baseball cap. Pitch misses ball three. Tough pitch to take. Started towards the inside corner and just kept drifting in 3, 2 pitch to Brad Thorne. Runners will be going Skeeter Ellison could get a huge jump at first base. Could get a walking lead. There they go. The runners are off. Line drive Thorne. The run will score. Here comes no, they're going to keep him at third. And into third base is Ellison. So the line drive by Thorne and the run is home. Troy Cuttle scores from second base on to third as Ellison. Man at the corners. And the RBI goes to Thorne. His third of the tournament. And immediately the designated runner, Bronson Bills coming in for Brad Thorne. So Thorne a three two line drive right over the second baseman's head to right field. And a man on at first base. Two runs in and it's held. Volunteer State scorers whatever in the not inning. And Dixie scores one more. Justin Garrett with two men out. Men at the corners. Garrett struck out last time. Flight out to the center fielder. He's over the tournament so far. Breaking pitch. Call strike on that outside corner. And Keith Hurt, still warming up, has stopped for a moment. He is plenty loose. It's just a matter of when the coach wants to make the switch. Ben at the corners. The plate. The pitch. Breaking pitch. Hit towards the third baseman, McGuire. Short hops, has a long throw to make and has he jumping at the last minute. Garrett almost beat it out, but a good play by McGuire. So in that inning, two runs, one of them unearned, by the way, on a total of three base hits, one error and two men left. And at the end of five complete, Dixie has a 7 to 4 lead. Back after this timeout. Gary Bybee at Allstead Insurance wants to congratulate the Dixie College Rebels on their appearance in the Junior College World Series. First, third and fifth. And Dixie has scored to equal and then added one more. So Volunteer State took a one nothing lead. Dixie made it two to one. Volunteer State made it three to two in the third. Dixie made it five to three. Volunteer State made it five to four. Dixie now has it seven to four. Bottom third of the order for Volunteer State. Tim Curran, Doug McGuire, J.D. olive and Dixie doing that even with four errors. So Dixie anything but sterling defensively, although they have made some good plays today. But four errors and two out of the four runs are unearned. The pitch in the dirt. Ball one to Tim Curran. Currans is reached on an error and singled, then thrown out at second base by the second baseman or by the short, the left fielder, Ellison. Next pitch. Call strike one. One count Cloud starting to move in to the west. It looked like it was going to be sunny, but it's starting to stack up against the Grand Mesa a little bit and looking a little overcast again. 11 pitch to Currans. Pitch backs him out of there. 21 count, no warm up action for Dixie. Lance Lambert with a 74 lead. Lambert trying to nurse this one home. The pitch, swung on and missed. Strike two. Dixie pitching has been a strength this year. But when you get to a tournament this long, a week long, it really puts a test on your depth. 2, 2 count to Tim Curran. Sidearm pitch backs him out. Ball three. Three, two count. Once again, Lambert has gone to a three, two pitch. The last thing Dixie needs to do is to put a runner on. You don't need to help Volunteer State. They can score runs by themselves. The pitch chopped, fouled off the foot of Kearns. He may limp just a little BIT. Count holds, three balls, two strikes. Doug McGuire waiting on deck. Seven of four. Dixie with the lead. Top of the sixth inning. The pitch hit towards the first baseman. Short hop by Shepard. Shepard grabs the ball, steps on the bag. So one man out and Dixie, every time it's hit to an infielder. For all of the fans right now, it's been an adventure. Everybody takes a big deep breath because they're not sure what they're going to get, whether they're going to get a fabulous play, a routine play, or whether there's going to be a routine play that will be botched. And they've had all of them. Some great defensive plays, some routine plays botched, and the routine play made. Pitch up ball one to Doug McGuire. McGuire, the only strikeout victim of Lance Lambert, took a called third strike his last time. Fight out to the center fielder. His first fouls. This one off one one count McGuire with some power. So he mentioned, came into this game hitting.571. Lambert doesn't mess around. He comes right after the pitcher. Get the ball, get the sign, gets the rhythm, throws the pitch, is fouled off. Strike two. One, two. Count McGuire on the year. Actually does not have a home run. Does have some doubles and a triple, but looks like he would swing a good solid bat. Has a double in his tournament. His sixth. Swung on and missed with a slow curveball. Sidearm. Strike three. So, two up, two down, a JD Olive coming to the plate. History says the odd innings produced the runs. Let's see if that holds. Two up, two down. Lance Lambert had one. One, two, three inning. That was the second inning both teams had that. But even that had a base hit in it. First pitch, fouled off. Strike one. And that one hit some dogs. The feet are throbbing right now. Olive, who takes enough punishment as a catcher, now fouls one off his own foot. One strike count to J.D. olive. Doug hall waiting on deck. Lambert to the plate sidearms. It he lifted into the air to center field. Craig Peterson drifting over right center field and has it on the run. So a polite 1, 2, 3 inning. Lance Lambert getting an easy inning just when he needs it in the top of the six. No runs, no hits, no errors, nobody left. At the end of five and a half, we take a 7 4. Dixie lead to the bottom of the sixth inning. Back after this timeout. Flanagan's in Springd in southern Utah. This is the sports leader, ksgiam and fm st. George. Bottom of the sixth inning. Dixie will start with the top of the order. Craig Peterson, Scott Sudbury, Brad Parker. We mentioned that Dixie is sponsored by the Rotary Club here in Grand Junction. Bill Hawking, the man who interfaces with Dixie College coaching staff yesterday. Family, friends, hangers on groupies, team members, coaches, whoever could show up at a Memorial Day picnic over at Sherwood park, not Forest Park. Trees are not that big yet, but they will be. It's over near Mesa State College, just that way from us. Really had a nice barbecue yesterday that was rather pleasant. First pitch to Peterson, fouled off strike one swinging at the first pitch. Peterson has been on three times, scored once. I scored twice. I should say walked twice. Infield single. So he's one for one. The pitch. Down low. Ball one. One. One count. Second time through. Third time through. Fourth time through. The order now for Jay Gearing. Gearing to the plate. Breaking pitch misses inside. Ball two. Two. One count. Crowd is building up a surprisingly big crowd. Part of that crowd has been juiced up a little bit by a bunch of elementary school students have been brought to this game. Pitch misses. Ball three. Three. One count. So Jay Gehry not wanting to walk the leadoff hitter because you start getting into people who can hit more and more. The pitch. Ball four. And Peterson walks for the third consecutive time. And in Postseason play. Peterson walks for his eighth time and coming out is Jeff Smith. Let me double check. No, this one's Kenny Thomas. This time Kenny Thomas comes out. That's it for Jake Geary. So with the leadoff batter on in the top of the or the bottom of the sixth inning, we'll have a switch. Keith Hurt will be coming in. Let's take this time out now. We'll keep it right here. We'll keep it right here. Seven to four. Dixie with the late. And let's go through some of the things that Keith Hurt has brings into this ballgame. For Hurt, this will be his first appearance. He will be the sixth pitcher used by coach Kenny Thomas. So Gearing will be charged with all seven of Dixie's runs. And Craig Peterson belongs to Gearing. So it'll be five plus innings. Coming in is Keith Hurt. There's a discussion going on between the base umpire, Craig Peterson, coach Royden Tate and first baseman Jeff Roland down around first base. I'm not sure what that's all about, but it all seems to be fairly good natured. So Keith Hurt comes in for Hurt on the year. He comes in with a. This is his 15th appearance. He's been a starter in five games, has given up 54 hits and five home runs on the year, has walked 15 and struck out 23 and one record, no correction, three and three record. And has one save to his credit and not a bad for junior college. 4.14 earned run average. So he'll face Buggy Sudbury. Sudbury at the plate. Sudbury grounded out his last time fouls this one. Strike one. Sudbury swung at that one as if it looked pretty good and was way out in front. Grounded out, walked and hit the two run home run in the first inning to give Dixie a 21 lead. A they were to relinquish and then get back Hurt to the plate. The pitch hit towards the third baseman. Is it fair? They say fair. It hit right on the line as it went over third base and moving into third is Peterson. And the third double of the tournament by Scott Sudbury. Tough call as it hit fair right in front of third base. And just as it got over third base into left field, it looked like it was going to go foul, but just kicked up the chalk. Just barely fair on the foul side of the chalk line, but kicked up enough of the chalk that the home plate umpire said it was a double. And I think that's what coach Kenny Thomas was arguing that hey, that one was foul. But Scott Sudbury a break for Dixie just barely Getting the chalk line. And it's a fair ball. Fair ball as it hit in front of third base. Fair. And the second bounce just caught the chalk line. Brad Parker, solo home run his last time up. A two run double is second time up. So he's two for three. Pitch up and in. Ball one. Dixie threatening. Bottom of the sixth inning, seven to four. Dixie with the lead, nobody out. Minute second and third in the infield in against Parker. The breaking pitch outside. Ball two. So Sudbury a seeing I double if you will. His third of the tournament. Sudbury having a good hitting tournament. Now Sudbury becomes a candidate for that big stick award. Breaking pitch at the dirt. Ball three. Three. Oh, count, will they put him on and try to get the force out at home with Gail Shepard coming to the plate. Shepard, one grand slam home run in postseason play already. And yes, they're going to walk him. Intentional walk. So base on balls intentionally for Parker. Put him on at first base. That loads the bases. And KL Sheppard coming to the plate. The infield will stay in. Shepard, a single in the Sunday's game. And that's it for Cale so far. He's grounded out to the second baseman. Grounded out to the first baseman. Hit a lazy fly ball to center field. So Shepard about due. Has a chance to pick up some RBIs. Has 18 in postseason play. Breaking pitch misses ball one. No place to put him. Shepherd with 18 runs batted in, 15 in the region tournament, three in the district tournament. 12 home runs on the year, including that huge grand slam in the region tournament. That just jumped out of first field. The pitch misses ball 2. 2, 0. Count the infield in all the way around for Volunteer State. They want to cut off the runs. Dixie, bases loaded, nobody out. Breaking pitch it towards the first baseman. Roland will come to the plate for one. That's one out. They get the lead runner. And Shepard is on by way of the fielder's choice. So one man out, three to two. Everybody moves up 90ft. And shepherd is on at first base. So Shepard hits the slow ground ball to the first baseman. And Shepard really not having a good tournament. Wyatt Cloud a chance now. If Volunteer State can wiggle out of this one, they will keep the pattern. Now the infield back at second and short in at the corners. And Cloward walked twice. Flied out to center field his last time. Breaking pitch up, ball one. So Dixie trying to add to their total. Bases loaded with nobody out. Now there's one out and Cloward trying to get some runs home. Fast ball down low. Ball two. Two Zero count and Keith Hurt trying to pitch out of a world of same for Volunteer State. Two warm up pitchers now. One righty, one lefty for Volunteer State. The pitch hit towards the first baseman. Foul count goes two and one down there. Warming up for the Pioneers. Chris Deckard, the left fielder or left hander. And let's double check the right hander, see if we can catch a number on him. The right hander is Daniel Kanata. Volunteer State won their first game, lost number two in a slugfest against Indian River. Indian river had the huge lead and then had to hold him off last night, tonight or today, trailing Dixie College seven to four. Two one pitch to Cloud. Hit in the air and deep. But foul. That's out of here. But almost. But foul over in the stands. Two, two count. Cloud got into it. If he keeps that one fair, it might creep over that 302 sign. At least it would put the left fielder back on the warning track and a chance to score a run. 2, 2 count to Wyatt Cloward. Keith Hurt into the stretch, looks for help. The pitch calls strike three on that corner. So big pitch. So with the bases loaded, Dixie cannot produce a run yet. Two men out and Troy Tuttle coming to the plate. Tuttle reached on a fielder's choice, flied to the right fielder, singled and scored his last time up. So Dixie trying to break that odd inning scoring drought. That pattern for both teams trying to get a run home here in the even inning. Breaking pitch called strike on that inside corner. So Hurt gives up a double and intentionally walks Parker and may get out of this. Dixie with the bases loaded now. Two men out. The pitch to Tuttle. The pitch down low. Ball one. Skeeter Ellison waiting on deck who has had less than his best day at play at the plate. Troy Tuttle, right handed hitting shortstop, headed on an LDS Church mission scheduled to be in the Missionary Training center tomorrow. Pitch misses inside. Ball two will not make that. He's going to be delayed. Headed to the Mexico City South Mission for the LDS Church. Will not be back next year. Obviously. I'll have to sit out two years and then be back. Breaking pitch, hit towards third base. Leaping over it is Scott Sudbury. It's foul count. Evens. Two balls, two strikes. Beautiful leap. I haven't seen that since Gene Kelly. Split and leap headed right towards him. So Tuttle got out in front of a 2, 2 pitch. Troy Tuttle with one error in this ball game, one in the first ball game. I'd like to make amends as two hits in the tournament the pitch chases and misses. Strike three. So Dixie loads the bases with nobody out and Keith Hurt pitches out of it. In that inning, no runs on, one base hit, no errors and three big ones left as Dixie strands five over the last two innings. But at the end of six, Dixie has a 7 to 4 advantage over Volunteer State. Even innings, no runs. The Dixie began with a walk and then a double. An intentional walk. Three men on and could not bring them home as Keith Hurt did. A masterful piece of pitching. And Dixie struck out twice by Hurt. Top of the seventh inning. Volunteer State trails by three. They send the top of the order. Doug Hall, Greg Strickland, Brian Conley to the plate. Lambert into the wind. Up the pitch to Doug Hall. Trying to drag the bunt on. That one will go foul. Strike one. So hall had that one beaten out. Beautiful bunt by hall, but it'll go strike. Almost a beautiful bunt. Nice thought, but the thought goes awry by inches. 7 to 4. Dixie with the lead over Volunteer State. Greg Strickland, who has been Mr. Everything for Volunteer State offensively in this tournament, waiting on deck. So the key for Lance Lambert is if you're going to face Strickland, have nobody on base, see if he can generate something himself. He has been able to. The pitch breaking. Pitch down low. Ball one. One. One count. Doug hall, good leadoff hitter. Hit for a good average this year. As we mentioned, Volunteer State a good offensive ball club. Double figures in each of the first two games. Pitch hit towards left field, slicing Skeeter Ellison is going to have to play that one on the bounce. So Doug hall has the leadoff base hit as he goes the other way. And Greg Strickland coming to the plate. Dixie with a 7 to 4 lead. And here comes Volunteer Spade again. Strickland A triple, a double and then grounded out to the first baseman as last time. And has hit the ball hard. Has two home runs in this tournament. Slightly closed stance. And for a number two hitter, he hits the ball every place. Faking the bunt. No, just takes a pitch outside. Ball one. Creeping in was buggy Sudbury. Strickland leaned a little bit, but never brought the hands in position for a bunt pick off. Over at first, back in is Doug Hall. Good offensive team for Volunteer State, but a little bit of an up and down team. The pitch called ball misses inside 2o count. So Lance Lambert doesn't want to hurt his own cause. Stolen base wise. Hall is the leader with 31. Strickland has 28 on the year. Two. Oh, pitch. That one called strike. Do one count to Strickland. Good pitch to do something on your coach. Kenny Smith or Kenny Thomas. Do you start him? You're down by three runs though. There goes Hall. The pitch fouled on a hit and run. It's a two, two count. Hall got a little bit of a walking lead, did not have much of a lead, but he was moving towards second when the pitch was made and he took off immediately, no question. Good speed at the top of the order. Hall and Strickland and Conley and a good offensive team. A lot of different tools. 7:4, Dixie with the lead, nobody out. Hall doesn't go this time. The pitch just misses. Inside three, two count. So with nobody out, Hall's speed on at first base and a good bat at the play. Greg Strickland, do you start him? Three, two. Yes, you do. There's Hall. The ball hit hard to Garrett and through Garrett, another error. Moving on to third is Hall. Garrett has a bullet hit at him and can't backhand it. So on by way of the error. That's the fifth one of this ball game. And Dixie in trouble again, even though they have a 74 lead. And the defense has led Dixie down again. So men at the corners and Brian Conley, who could tie up this ballgame with one swing. Still looking for his second base head of this tournament. Volunteer State has scored 21 runs in the first two games with one hit by Conley, 25 total with only one hit by Conley. Conley, the leading hitter in all ways coming into this tournament. His home run total of 19 matched by Brad Parker earlier in this ball game. The pitch to Conley fouled off in on the 5th and couldn't get it. Get the good part of the bat on it. Strike one. So the potential tying run at the plate and Brian Conley. Lance Lambert working into the seventh inning. Stuart I for both teams and Volunteer State making the big late inning rush against Indian river yesterday. Back at third is Sudbury. The pitch bounces. That goes right to the backstop. A run will come home and it's a seven to five ball game. And here we go. The odd innings. One one count, wild pitch all the way. Moving to second is Greg Strickland. And Conley with nobody out, is at the plate. Lambert a little frustrated. And Dixie has to look at the last two innings. Even though they scored a run, two runs in the fifth inning, they left two men on and in the sixth inning had the bases loaded with nobody out. That may have been the emotional lift Keith Hurt provided Volunteers Day by squirming away. Volunteer State with a run in. It's a seven to five ball game now. Still nobody out. Strickland on at second. The pitch called strike two. One, two count. Conley stands to be the potential tying run. Nobody out. Top of the seventh inning. Dixie the home team in this one. Lambert going all the way and is in for the duration, I think. Breaking pitch just misses ball. Two, two, two count. Infield is back. They need outs. Dixie has nine outs to get without Volunteer State scoring anymore. Breaking pitch lifted into the air towards first base and foul. Cale shepherd over in foul ground, grabs it so one man out. A sigh of relief by Dixie faithful. And still on at second base is Greg Strickland. Jeff Roland at the plate. Fly ball, rbi single reached on an error. Flight out to the center fielder. One for three today. Roland's RBI is his fourth of the tournament. Lance Lambert trying to nurse what is now a 7 to 5 lead. The pitch sidearmed called, ball misses outside. One man out. Jeff Rowland on. Then Mike Clark, who had the RBI double his last time up. So once again, the odd innings proving to be fruitful for Volunteer State. Question, will Dixie also prove to be fruitful? Pitch lifted foul and out of play. One one count. The Lambert making some good pitches. Seven to five. Ball game as three out of those five runs are. Let me double check. Four out of the five runs are earned against Lambert. Breaking pitch lifted into the air and fairly deep to center field to right center field. Craig Peterson over grabs it. Strickland will tag and will go to third easily. So the fly ball into right center field. Two men out and Mike Clark coming to the plate. Clark doubled over the left fielder's head his last time up left handed. Hitting second baseman showing some power. So Clark still stands to be the the potential tying run. Now the question is now that Volunteer State has scored one, will Dixie score two in the bottom of the seventh inning? Clark with 10 home runs on the year, so he has power. He is the number three home run hitter. Into the stretch. Lambert looks at Strickland. The pitch fouled straight back. Strike one. Caleb Slaughter waiting on deck. I mentioned the yesterday was fun on the Memorial Day team. Spent some time looking at ball games. It was very cool day in Grand Junction, especially yesterday afternoon in the championship bracket game that involved Volunteer State and Indian River. Last night. The first run shortened ball game. Lambert pitch guts by the catcher. Another wild pitch and a run score. So two runs home, two wild pitches bring home runs. And Dixie hands two runs to Volunteer State. One one count to Mike Clark. And Lambert has to be a little frustrated. That one is an unearned run. It's a seven to six ball game. Dixie still leads by one, but still a little frustrated. Is Mike Clark or is Lance Lambert? I should say. Umpire calls timeout for just a minute. Lambert's shirt tail coming untucked. That has been a struggle that Lance Lambert has had this year. His jersey shirttail has been known to come flying out on occasion. So one. One count to Mike Clark. Seven to six ball game. Dixie still with the lead. The pitch fisted and that one is going to drift foul. No fair, just fair. Looked like it was going to go foul. Clark will have another stand up double as that one just fisted and into fair territory. And here comes Volunteer State again. And the errors, five of them in this ball game is killing Dixie. But Dixie still has the one run lead. Caleb Slaughter waiting on deck and Slaughter coming to the plate now walked in the spite out twice. Once to center field, once to left field. Slaughter in this tournament is now 1 for 10 and 1 for 9. So some of the power men for Volunteer State not producing as much as they would like. Lance Lambert looks back at second base, comes to the plate. Fastball hit in the air and fairly deep. And that one is going to be gone. A home run by Caleb Slaughter and Volunteer State takes an 8, 7 lead. And Dixie killing themselves with errors as two runs come home. And it's an 8 to 7 lead for Volunteer State. Caleb Slaughter hitting his first home run of the tournament. And Volunteer State with four big ones. And Lance Lambert being rocked around by Slaughter. A little blue double down the left field line and Lambert close to getting out of it. Wild pitches home two runs in this inning and gives up the two run home run. Tim Currens coming to the plate. Currans a single reached on an error. Grounded out. So he is one for three. Lambert to the plate. Fastball called strike. Volunteer State can score easily enough. Dixie did not need to help them. Four runs in the seventh inning. The pitch. Fastball misses ball 111 count for the record. Bottom half of the inning, it'll be the bottom third of the order which has produced virtually nothing for Dixie. I shouldn't say that. Pitch up and in. Ball two. Two one count. Brad Thorne with an RBI single today. That's the only thing that's been produced by the bottom end of the order. And that's due up in the bottom of the seventh. Lambert breaking pitch, fouled off two two counts to Tim Curran. Top of the seventh, two wild pitches and a two run. Home run and four runs in for Volunteer State. And now Dixie was sailing along with a 74 lead. Now down eight to seven. Lambert to the plate. Breaking pitch, misses ball three. Full count to Tim Curran. No warm up action for Dixie as Lambert is your number two man. Fastball inside, ball four. And Volunteer stay getting momentum. Lance Lambert looking a little frustrated. Looking a lot frustrated. Doug McGuire coming to the plate for Lambert. He has struck out two. Both of them have been McGuire as far as bases on balls. That is the fourth walk given up by Lambert. So not his best pitching performance. There goes the runner, the switch. The pitch. Swung on and missed. And in a second base with a stolen base is Curran. So it's strike one to McGuire. And Volunteer State now can do a lot of things with a one run lead and McGuire at the plate. McGuire over three today on the tournament is four for ten. Still hitting.400 on the tournament. A pitch to McGuire. Line to right field. That one's going to drop. Another run will score. And Brad Parker will be up trying to stretch it to second as McGuire. No, he'll think better of it. So an RBI single by McGuire and it's a nine to seven ball game as Curran scores. And the stolen base proves big. Five runs in in the seventh inning. One of them earned, one earned run. Five of them in this inning. And Gordon Jolly wants to talk to his team. Dixie on the verge of being eliminated. They still have three more times at the plate. And Gordon Jolly really frustrated. Has to be 13 errors in this tournament. That's after part of the victory for Dixie and Region 18's tournament was the sterling defense. Sterling defense is rested here at the juco. Gordon Jolly walking slowly back to the dugout. Mason Fox getting warm in a hurry. The scheduled third game starter But Dixie may not get to that third game unless they can start Stop the flood right now. Ninth man to come to the plate. J.D. olive here in the seventh inning. Part of it a line drive by Strickland that ate up Justin Garrett. That helped get two men on with nobody out. A pitch to Olive called strike. Olive grounded out. Grounded out, flyed out. So Curran's with the RBI single to give. Volunteers stayed a two run lead, nine to seven. The pitch misses ball one one. One count. Top of the seventh inning in the roof has caved in on Dixie and they've helped knock out some of the their own struts. 97 Volunteer state with the lead. The pitch down low. Ball two, two, one count. Mason Fox, who is yet to give up an earned run in postseason play even though he's 1 and 1. He was the ill fated loser in the lone loss in the district tournament. And once again it was defensive problems for Dixie in that game. The pitch swung on and missed strike two. In postseason play, there have been three bad feeling games by Dixie. The first of the two championship games in the district tournament against Arizona Western. And both games here. Fastball swung on and missed. Strike three. And that's the third out to retire the side. But not before a lot of damage has been done. Five runs on a total of 1, 2, 3. Four base hits, one huge error and a man left. And at the end of six and a half, it's a nine to seven lead for Volunteer State. Back after this timeout. Traditions are important. Keeter Ellison, Brad Thorne, Justin Garrett due up defense has been the downfall for Dixie. Keith Hurt working his first inning. Actually got a full inning last time. Misses down low. Ball one. Ellison strangely silent, reached on an error, grounded out or struck out twice. Ellison huge district tournament as he was the hero in that district tournament. Ball two. Ellison in postseason play has a total of 11 runs batted in. In now the 11th game pitch fouled off strike one. Two one count. Just talking with part of the official scoring staff. Official scorers are going to go with four earned runs in 20 the Dixie has allowed. The pitch misses. Actually it's Dixie is allowed 16, 16 runs, four of them earned. So three one pitch to Skeeter Ellison lifted into the air towards the infield on a 31 pitch. A shortstop Brian Connolly grabs it. And so Ellison having a strangely quiet seventh inning. Our entire ballgame, Dixie has usually matched Tennessee plus one, but they have a long ways to go. Five runs in the top of the seventh is Volunteer State has scored in each of the odd innings. So has Dixie. And Dixie has has added one more run than Volunteer State has scored. But they've got to do a lot against Keith Hurt. Pitch to Brad Thorne. Called strike. Thorne an RBI singled on a 32 pitch his last time up. Help get a run. Home pitch down low. Ball one one one count. It was his pinch runner. One of two runners stranded in the fifth inning. The turnaround. The base is loaded with nobody out in the six. And Dixie not does not get a run. Line drive right to Conley. So Thorne a little soft liner right to the shortstop. Two up and two down. And Justin Garrett, who has been totally silent in this tournament with the bat, slide out, struck out, grounded out. Dixie losing outs now pitch. Can something start for Dixie with two men out. So Garrett puts a charge into Dixie by throwing one delting one over the left fielder's head. The Garrett a double in postseason play for Garrett. That is double number three on the year for Garrett. All of his extra hits base hits have been doubles. That is his fifth. Craig Peterson at the plate. Infield singles, three walks. The pitch hit hard towards the shortstop. Conley is going to have to make the throw. And does. And that's the third out to retire this side. So out six to three in that inning, no runs, a hit, no errors and a man left. And for the first time in this ball game, Dixie has not matched Volunteer State's odd inning scoring and Dixie back to back scoreless innings. It's a 9 to 7 lead for Volunteer State as we go to the 8th. Back after this timeout. Stat. I'll get back to you on that tomorrow. Don't call us, we'll call you. Or the check is in the mail. Call 673-6128 and watch for registration at Evans Hairstyling College in St. George. Top of the eighth inning. Doug hall, who began the last inning with that little line drive, soft liner to left field eventually was wild, pitched home. That opened the floodgates in a five run seventh inning. One one count as he took a ball and then fouled one off. Sudbury in at third base. Dixie five errors. The pitch. Line drive to center field and Lambert getting hit around now. Mason Fox heating up in a hurry and Volunteer Spade the key Winn Dixie stranded the runners. They had the bases loaded in the sixth inning and a chance to put this ball game away. Bases loaded and nobody out. And Keith Hurt, the relief pitcher who now stands to win this ball game if they can get Dixie out. Got Dixie out without a run being scored. Greg Strickland reached on an error last time, has doubled and tripled in this ball game. Pitch outside, ball one. Two wild pitches by Lambert brought home two runs. And then after two men out, everything broke loose. Doug hall on pitch, Mrs. Ball two. Two. Oh. Count is Strickland. And now you're behind to one of the hottest hitters in the tournament. Greg Strickland, who had a three run home run yesterday, had a home run in the first ball game. Against Triton. Then on is Doug Hall. Lambert standing there for a moment. Hall a short lead. Lambert good move to first base. He and Garf both have excellent moves. The pitch called strike two. One count. Strickland taking all the way. Now you have a good number two hitter who's been hitting for average and is hot. You know Doug hall who can fly over at first base. You've got to look for hall to go this time on a 21 pitch. No, he doesn't. The ball hit and hit fairly deep. That goes Skeeter Ellison. Ellison has it measured in deep left center field. So it was hit a long ways but to one of the deepest part of the park. And Skeeter Ellison has the out. One man out and Brian Conley coming to the plate. Conley grounded out, hit a bullet at the third baseman. Walked and scored and fouled out to the first baseman. So he's over three. Brian Conley 1 for 12 in this tournament and came in hitting.493, strong right handed hitting shortstop and has made all of the plays at short. The pitch. Ball 1. Volunteer State Part of coach Kenny Thomas's view as they had to play good defense. Volunteer State has committed one error after having five errors in each of the first two games. Pitch hit in the air to shortstop Troy Tuttle back on the shallow outfield grass. Grabs it for the second out and Brian Connolly tosses the bat away. He is just frustrated. Take that helmet off and there's a Marine cut haircut on top of that of Brian Conley. In fact, he's built a little like a Marine. He is solid. Jeff Rollin to the plate. RBI single reached on an error. Flight out twice to the center fielder. Top of the eighth inning, 9 to 7. Volunteer state with the lead pickoff by Lambert. Back in is all Mason Fox warming up. Lambert trying to get through the eighth inning without any more damage from Volunteer State. Breaking pitch called ball just missed. Tried for that outside corner and missed it. So Roland 1 for 4 today, 97. Volunteer state with the lead fastball. Call. Strike. So Lambert comes right back with a one strike pitch. 11 count to Jeff Rowland. Mike Clark waiting on deck who has doubled twice off of Lambert his last two times up. Lambert stands on the mound for a little bit. Wants to freeze hall if he can. With two men out, hall can fly. Do you start him? One one count to Jeff Roland. Lambert sidearms fouled at the plate. Count goes to one and two. Roland took a huge cut, no question. Roland does not get cheated as a play. It's one of those cases. Just like a lot of catchers used to say. Behind Willie McCovey when he would swing and miss, you could feel the vacuum pull the mask right off of your face. Lambert to the plate. Call strike three and he's out of it. So in that inning, the leadoff single goes for naught. No runs they hit, no errors and a man left. After seven and a half, Dixie trails Volunteer State nine to seven. Back with the eighth inning for Dixie after this timeout. Auto FX now has a new location. See us at 1726 West Sunset Boulevard. Ball one, Scott. Sudbury to lead things off in the eighth inning. Breaking pitch fouled off one one count. Only four runs given up by Dixie have been earned. Sixteen, four out of the sixteen. Warm up action. Mason Fox has been throwing for quite a bit. Arms folded down in the bullpen right now. Ball hit by Sudbury, drifting foul out of play into the stands. One two count. Sudbury doubled his last time, has hit a two run home run. Walked and grounded out. So he's 2 for 3. But Dixie needs some runs this inning or next to keep alive in this tournament. Otherwise Volunteer State will pick up their second win in their first trip and keep alive for the championship. Dixie needs the victory today to keep their hopes alive for a national championship. It's a backs against the wall situation for both teams. The pitch to Sudbury in the dirt. Ball two. Dixie's the only team that's playing on Tuesday that has not had a win in this tournament. Dixie gets a win. They will do no worse than they did in their first trip in 1989. Breaking pitch down low. Ball three. Three, two pitch. Dixie won their first game in the juco against Monroe of New York. Back in 89, lost a heartbreaker to the eventual national champ San Jacinto north, and then lost in a afternoon game to Wabash Valley of Illinois. 3, 2 Pitch to Sudbury. Pitch outside. Ball four and Buggy Sudbury is on at first base. That brings Brad Parker to the plate. Parker has walked, hit a solo home run, a huge solo home run and had a two run double plus wide out. So he's 2 for 3 on the day and three RBIs. Parker stands to be the potential tying run. If he gets his pitch, he may send one out of here. One of two home runs that Dixie College has hit today. The pitch to Parker hit hard but foul. Out of play over behind first base. Not as hard as it looked originally. One strike out to Brad Parker facing the right hander. Keith Hurt was walked intentionally in his only time facing Hurt. Almost a straight wide open stance by Parker. Pitch hit on the ground to the third baseman. McGuire goes to second for one. On to first. Wide throw and Parker's on at first base. So fielder's choice of second baseman having a little bit of a struggle as he had a tried to get it out of his glove. Mike Clark having some problems. So a man out and Dixie wasting outs right now and they need to get two runs. K.L. shepherd, 044 today, only one hit in the tournament. Shepard came in hitting.381 in postseason play, but has been very silent in the Junior College tournament. Junior College World Series. The first pitch to shepherd called strike. Breaking pitch. Keith Hurt, a 165 pound right hander working in relief of Gearing. Jake Gearing has started the pitch. Hit hard to left center field. Shepherd is going to be nailed with the fly ball as Greg Strickland grabs it, then throws wildly to the infield. So Shepard hits it hard to left field, but it hangs up long enough for Strickland to get to it. Two men out and Wyatt Cloward coming to the plate. Cloud walked twice, Flight out, took a call. Third strike. Correction. Lance Lambert is going to hit for himself. So Lambert will hit for himself. Lance Lambert on the year actually is 0 for 1 in postseason play on the year, hitting just.105. But Lance Lambert wanting to hit for himself. Clowart struggling his last two times at the plate after walking and on a gamble. The pitch hit hard to left center field. Back goes Strickland. He may catch up with it. Does he? Yes, he does. On the warning track. So Lambert gives it a ride. But that's the third out to retire the side. A long fly ball to Strickland and suddenly volunteers stay turning into glove wizards while Dixie is not. No runs, no hits, no errors, a man left. Dixie will have three more outs to get the runs back. And Lance Lambert will have to pitch one more inning maybe. Or Mason Fox will be coming in at the end of eight complete. It's Volunteer State 9, Dixie 7 back after this timeout. But there's only one true deco seal call 674-2222 today, top of the ninth inning, Mike Clark, who has doubled in each of his last two times up, Mrs. With a pitch. Outside is Lance Lambert. Lambert gave it a ride, but Greg Strickland tracked it down. Made a great play. Otherwise, Lambert is sitting on with a double long fly ball by Mike Clark. Craig Peterson has it in center field for the first out. Lance Lambert really frustrated behind the mound. You could see that he was frustrated. He's just plain frustrated that he's not ahead in this ball game and should be by all rights should still be leading as in this inning only or in this game apparently. Only one earned run given up according to the official score. I think I had maybe two or three as earned earned runs, but only one officially or apparently by the scorekeeper. Caleb Slaughter in a two run homer last time, fouls it off over behind the plate. Brad Thorne can cannot find it. Slaughter, first and only home run of this tournament so far. Slaughter gave Volunteer State the lead after everything was over with. After all of the. After the error had been committed and there should have been three outs. Caleb Slaughter hits the two run home run over the left field fence to make it an 8 to 7 lead. Tim Currens followed with a single and McGuire singled him home. The pitch swung on, a missed strike two. So Lambert trying to get a great finishing kick at a good eighth inning. Trying to hold Volunteer State scoreless. So that big five spot in the seventh inning. The difference right now. Into the wind, up Lambert. O2 pitch backs him out. 1, 2 count. Lambert gets him leaning back. You look for the curve ball away. Slaughter 1, 4, 4. The pitch. Swung on and missed. Strike three. So Slaughter let loose with everything and Lambert zips him. Strikeout Number 4 by Lance Lambert and Tim Currens coming to the plate. I say Curran single. Currans walked right after the home run. Kearns one for three. A single reached on an error grounded out to the first baseman. Debunt fouls strike one. Curran's with two men out trying to get on. It'll be up to Keith Hurt to see if Dixie can be held at bay. Dixie needs two runs to send this one into 10 innings. We've had one extra inning game in this tournament that involving Odessa as they outslugged Indian Hills 1615 into the wind, up Lance Lambert. One strike. Pitch lifted into the air and foul over behind third base. Buggy Sudbury giving chase, but that's way out of play. Oh, two count and one inning shortened ballgame that also involved Odessa. Odessa, one of two teams that are undefeated 20 are Odessa and Indian river. And so obviously they are the favorites right now. Lambert into the pit. Stretch the, excuse me, foul ball hit look like against some of the Allegheny ball players. Allegheny playing Middle Georgia in the next game. Count holds 0 and 2. Dixie, if they were to win, would play the loser of St. Louis, Merrimack and Odessa. The pitch called strike three. So Lambert finishes his portion of it with a one two, three inning in the ninth. No runs, no hits, no errors. It's up to three outs for Volunteer State and for Dixie. We go to the bottom of the ninth. Volunteer State with a 9 to 7 lead. Back after this timeout. Dixie, on the other hand, would like to end a three game juco losing streak, but they need two runs to tie, three runs to win. Keith Hurt, who has shut out Dixie since he's been on in relief, will face Troy Tuttle. Tuttle takes a strike to begin things. Tuttle has struck out, flied out, reached on a fielder's choice, singled and scored. Tuttle. Skeeter Allison, Bradthorn Hurt to the plate. The pitch hitting the air towards the left field and playing shallow. Strickland. Strickland and hall calls him off and hall has it in very shallow center field. So Dixie down to two outs as Petal pops out. Dixie not wanting to go quietly. Skeeter Ellison has been totally frustrated. Popped out to the shortstop, reached on an error, struck out twice. Skeeter Ellison 044 today, not typically Skeeter Ellison. Keith Hurt to the plate. The pitch back to the backstop. Ball one. Brad Thorne next, then Justin Garrett. So Dixie facing the bottom third of the order now. Bottom third that has produced one RBI single and a double that did not produce a run. Breaking pitch, misses. Ball two. 20 count to Skeeter Ellison. Dixie needs two runs to tie and has two outs to get it. Keith Hurt trying to wrap things up. Hurt, good relief performance. Breaking pitch, misses. Ball 3.3o count with Brad Thorne waiting on deck. Thorne already with an RBI single and a home run in this tournament. The pitch ball four and Ellison walks again. So Dixie has a runner on with one man out and Brad Thorne coming to the plate. Thorne batting left handed, RBI single, came right handed, lined out to the shortstop last time as Conley was over almost the second base they were playing. Thorn to pull two run home run against St. Louis Merrimack. Breaking pitch, misses inside. Ball one. Justin Garrett waiting on deck. Dixie has a chance. Potential tying run is at the plate. The pitch call strike one. One count to Brad Thorne. Dixie needs runners, baserunners and no baserunning mistakes. Skeeter Ellison on at first Base. Dixie trying to pull this one out as they can, nine to seven. The five run seventh inning. The difference. Dixie did not score on the bottom of the seventh. But then again, Volunteer State did not score on the top of the ninth. First odd inning that they had not scored in. Breaking pitch call strike two. One, two count to Brad Thorne. And the group of Tennessee fans just under us are cheering. They can visualize Volunteer State moving on against either St. Louis, Merrimack or Odessa tomorrow at 3. Dixie not wanting to be the fourth team sent home out of this 10 team tournament, but two outs away from that 9 to 7. Volunteer State with the late thorn to the flight. The pitch misses. Two, two count to Brad Thorne. Justin Garrett waiting on deck. Keith Hurt. Hurt struck out two in that fateful sixth inning. The pitch hit hard towards the shortstop through Conley into center field. Conley couldn't come up with it. Will it be a base hit or an error? Hit hard by Thorne. And if it's an error, it may be appropriate. They'll give a hit. A base hit to Brad Thorne as he hit it hard towards the shortstop. So men on it, first and second. Bronson Bills in to run for Thorne. Bills, although Thorne's still at first base. I think you have to have a baserunner in postseason play. But no, Thorne is still there. Justin Garrett, who has had some big hits, doubled his last time up against Hurt. Men on. Breaking pitch. Up and away. Ball one. Craig Peterson waiting on deck. Dixie with a potential tying run. On at first base. In at first is first baseman Roland. Pitch outside. No on the corner. One, one breaking pitch. Just caught the corner. Catcher J.D. olive trying to nurse this one home for a relief pitcher, Keith Hurt. The pitch. Breaking pitch. Mrs. Ball two. Two, one count to Justin Garrett. Dixie needs to get Ellison home. Needs to get Thorne home from first to keep this game alive no matter what. Justin Garrett at the plate. Pitch hit towards the third baseman. McGuire has it dropped and cannot tag the man. Error by the third baseman. Bases are loaded as Ellison eluded the tag. McGuire picked it up, tried to tag Ellison. Ellison sidestepped the third baseman and now the bases are loaded. Second error of the ball game by Volunteer State. And now with one man out, you have the top of the order. Craig Peterson, who finally grounded out last time Dixie hit the shot that could have ended the game. The potential tying run at second, the potential winning run at first. One man out and the bases loaded. Dixie left the bases loaded in the sixth inning. They left two men on in the fifth. Either of those innings. If they Break loose. They're in this game. Pitch calls strike. Peterson has walked three times. Grounded out, has an infield single. Craig Peterson, 1 4, 2 base hit. Should bring home two. The pitch misses ball 1 1, 1 count. No warm up action for Volunteer State. Bottom of the ninth inning. Dixie with their last opportunity to keep alive in the juco, hurt to the plate. Breaking pitch called ball inside. Peterson leaned in and it came inside two. One count to Craig Peterson. If Peterson can get on then Buggy Sudbury coming to the plate. Back is the infield. They need the outs. The pitch. Swung on and fouled by Peterson may have chased ball three, two, two count. And that's what Peterson is asking the umpire right now. Was that out of the strike zone? Two, two count, bases loaded, one man out. Bottom of the ninth inning. Dixie has the potential tying and Winning runs on 9 to 7. Volunteer State with the lead. Craig Peterson, leadoff hitter in the ball game. The pitch hit hard to center field. Back goes Doug Hall. He'll get one run home. Ellison goes home and it's a nine to eight ball game and two men are out. So the sacrifice fly by Peterson gets one run home and it's a nine to eight ball game. Hanging on at second is Brad Thorne. Now do you put in the pinch runner? You have Buggy Sudbury coming to the plate. And it comes down to Buggy Sudbury. Oh, the pressure on the sophomore. Sudbury. A two run home run, two walks, a double and has grounded out. And maybe appropriately so, I don't know. Buggy Sudbury, out of all of the sophomores, he will graduate on time. The rest will have to take some summer classes to finish. And Sudbury with a 3.6 grade point average. Two outstanding years. Buggy. The pitch to Sudbury. The pitch hit hard towards the shortstop into center field. Conley can't come up with it. Thorne is going to be sent to the plate. Hall is going to be on. And it's a tie ball game. RBI single off the glove of the Thorne. Base hit by Sudbury and Dixie has a chance to win. Men on it, first and second. Thorne scores from second. You had to put the pressure on. Conley went wide to his left, just got a glove on it as he dived it, went into center field and died. Garrett at second base. Sudbury with the RBI single. Brad Parker at the plate hit into a fielder's choice. This will go into a 10th inning no matter what. It could end right now if Brad Parker puts it someplace. Brad Parker, three RBIs in the game, including a solo home run. The pitch up, ball one One ball count to Brad Parker. And they finally scored two against Keith Hurts unearned runs as the second error by Volunteer State at kept Dixie alive. The pitch hit hard and deep and foul. Doug McGuire over near the stands. Can he reach in? No, it goes into the stands. 11 count, almost a foul out. Brad Parker at the plate. Dixie will live again. They will play another inning unless Parker can drive Garrett home. And if Parker drives Garrett home, then Dixie plays tomorrow at three and Volunteer State goes home. What a finish. Nine, nine tie. Dixie has two runs here in the ninth. One one count to Brad Parker of a pressure player. Yes. Pitch up. Ball two, two one count. Cale shepherd waiting on deck and is he due? Dixie trying to keep alive. Get their first win at this tournament and a three game losing streak in the juco. Brad Parker at the plate. The pitch. Breaking pitch at hard to left field. Will it drop? No, it does. Hall is there. We go to a 10th inning so Parker can't get the man home. Third out to retire the side in that inning. Two big runs on one, two big hits, one huge error and two men left on base. We go to the 10th inning. A nine nine tie. Back after this timeout. For all your lighting needs and accessories. Wilkinson's House of Lighting. Call Champion Cellular, 590-5000 or 632-5176. Top of the 10th inning, Lance Lambert going all the way. McGuire, J.D. olive, top of the order. Doug hall do up. Dixie gets just enough home to keep this alive. You look at 9 runs, 10 hits on each side. Big difference. Dixie 5 errors. Volunteer State 2. The pitch to McGuire misses Ball 1. McGuire singled in a run his last time. Struck out twice. Flight out to the center fielder. This one continues the pitch called ball. That one bounced up and nipped the umpire. In fact, I think that was a three cushion shot. Got the catcher twice in the umpire once and that one was in the dirt. Two zero count to the leadoff hitter, Doug McGuire Lambert two strong innings. The eighth and ninth. Wants to make the tenth a strong one, too. The pitch misses. Ball three. Potential go ahead, run. That's a 3, 0 count. Lambert surprised that he's pitching 10? Yes, he is. Pitch called strike three. One count. The umpire apparently nipped on the fingers. Maybe that right hand. He's still treating that rather gingerly. Three, two, pitch. Ball four. And the leadoff runner is on. So Lambert not helping his own cause. Dixie will have the 4, 5 and 6 hitters. Who up? Mason Fox warming up more sincerely in the bullpen right now. Lambert, can he go? J.D. olive at the plate. Lot of errors by Dixie. A lot of home runs in the tournament. The bunt buggy. Sudbury will get the runner at first. Almost had the man at second as Brad Thorne was covering. But a good bunt by JD Olive to sacrifice moves the man to second. And now you get to the top of the order. Doug hall and Greg Strickland. Hall has singled in each of his last two times up, has walked, has grounded out twice. So he's due for four. Scored two runs. Greg Strickland the man next. So one man out, a man on at second base. That's Doug McGuire and Lance Lambert trying to keep Volunteer State scoreless. Dixie didn't score in the seventh, they scored in the ninth. The pitch. Misses. Ball one with a breaking pitch. One ball count and Dixie. If they're going to go home, they're going to go home fired. They're going to have to really work on this one. The pitch called strike one. One count. They are fired up for this one as they're not going to go easy. One. One count to Doug Hall. The pitch called ball misses. Two, One count. Lance Lambert has given about everything he can for Dixie today. Hit the ball hard even in his one time up. The big breaking pitch. Misses outside. Three. One count to Hall. Dangerous. You better believe it. Nine, nine, tie. We're in the top of the 10th inning. Lambert to the plate. The pitch hit in the air to left field that will score the run. Skeeter Ellison will be up. We'll try to get him at the plate. The throw coming through. Not in time. Cut off by Lambert. So the run is home. So Lambert didn't help his own cause. And the third base hit by hall makes it a 10, nine ballgame. And Dixie will have to come from behind again. Greg Strickland with one man out coming to the plate. Strickland has scored three times, tripled, doubled, reached on an error, grounded out, flied out. So he's 2, 4, 5. And I think Gordon Jolly may make the switch right now with Mason Fox on the mound. Left hander against left hander. I don't know. But a run is in at the 10 to nine ball game. And Dixie will have to come from behind if they expect to win this one. Dixie could have won it in the 9th inning. Could have won it. Brad Barker gave it a fly ball, but it was caught. Lance Lambert has allowed the run. Walk the leadoff hitter. And Volunteer State doing what you're supposed to, sacrificing to second. Little looping single to left field gets the runner home. Good throw by Ellison. But still the run scores. And it's a 10 to nine ball game. Greg Strickland trying to get some insurance runs the pitch to Strickland. Call strike. So Strickland hit the ball hard, actually three times, as is. Error reaching on an error just 8. Justin Garrett. There goes the runner ball swung on him, fouled off. Strike two. So Hall. Volunteer State trying to get a little extra as hall's on at first base. Three straight singles by Hall. That's 11 hits given up by Lance Lambert and only the second earned run in this particular ballgame, apparently according to the scorekeepers. 02 pitch to Strickland. Just misses inside ball one. Strickland moves back off the plate. One two count. Greg Strickland hitting hot two home runs in this tournament. One in each of the first two games. Hall on it first. Hall steps off and there's going to be a box. Hall started to run before Lambert made his move. And it's going to be a box. So first bach of the game as hall started early and Lambert stepped off to make the throw to first base and will commit the box. So man on at second. Still only one man out and a one two count on Strickland. Now Strickland dangerous again. Hall ground ball, line drive. Hit the Shepherd. Shepherd throws to shortstop to get the double play. So Strickland hits it. A line shot to shepherd, but Shepard gets the man at second base. And that's it. In that inning, one run on one base hit, no errors and nobody left on base. And at the end of nine and a half, Dixie's going to have to come from behind again because volunteer state leads 10 to nine. Kale shepherd to lead off breaking pitch, misses inside ball one. Shepherd 045 today, but made the good line drive catch off of Strickland. Strickland has hit the ball hard and then made the throw to shortstop to get the the double play and end the 10th inning. Shepherd about due, has had one base hit in this tournament. He's two and oh to the pitcher, now hurt to the plate. Shepherd takes a strike two, one count. Dixie needs a baserunner, needs a run to tie and two to win. So they're working from behind again. The pitch to shepherd fouled over behind third base on the slow curveball count. Two, two. So Dixie has three outs to get a run and keep this, this game alive. They got the two runs in the bottom of the night. The pitch to Hurt. Hit hard to right field and Shepard will have a base hit. So the potential tying run is on it first. Shepherd, how do you look for Lambert to bunt? Lance Lambert hit for himself last time and hit the ball hard to left field. Took Greg Strickland back almost to the warning track and left center field. Lance Lambert talking to Gordon Jolly. And you almost have to look for the bunt right now. Lambert talking to his coach. Lambert just wants to hit, he wants to run, he wants to pitch. He just wants to be in the ball game. That's what he wants. He just wants to be part of the ball game. This is a young man who loves baseball. Loves it with a passion. Loves winning with a passion. Lambert flight out his only time up. Cale shepherd on at first base. Do you have the bunt? Third baseman Doug McGuire thinking so into the stretch is Shepard. There's the bunt back towards the pitcher. Hurt bobbles it. Will have to go to first and get his man. Almost had a shot at shepherd at second. So the sacrifice out one to three and shepherd, the potential tying run is on at second. Troy Tuttle coming to the plate. It's Tuttle, Ellison and Thorn. Tuttle a single and four, five times up, struck out Flight out to center field his last time up. Tuttle has had some huge hits this year. Kenny Thomas wants to talk to his catcher and to his pitcher. Don't wants to talk to the home plate umpire. Let's see if we're going to have a switch. We may have a switch. Keith Hurt on the mound and see if we have a switch. Hurt for McGuire. McGuire walking in, signaling in the right fielder. So Kearns will come in and pitch. Currans will come in to pitch. Going out will be a new outfielder. So that's it for the pitcher. Let's take this time out with the score 10 to 9. Volunteer state out in front of Dixie. We'll be back after this. A lot of people think St. George has it all. And there's no exception when it comes to America's number one chocolate. Stop in and visit Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory at the Zion Taco stores. And if you buy one chocolate dipped banana, you receive a second one at half price. And be sure to check out all of the other goodies at your number one place for chocolate. Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in the Zion Factory outlet mall. So a new right fielder, right fielder Tim Currens will come in to pitch. Now as Currans comes in, he will be the third pitcher. So Keith hurt will works. 1, 2, 3, 4 and a third innings. 4 and a third innings for Keith Hurts stands to be the winning pitcher if Currans can get the job done. New man in the outfield is Mike Albert. He's moved to right field in place of Currans who has come in to pitch. So Albert in the right in the right field position. Troy Tuttle doo up Currans with a white sleeve that's showing an undersleeve. And the umpires making sure that that is tucked up. So we may have a little more of a challenge here. Coach Kenny Thomas coming out trying to get the victory for Currans. The record. This is his seventh game pitch has not started a game. Everything's been in relief. No record, but has five saves. So he's been a little bit of a closer. Six games, he's picked up five saves. And so Curran has been the man to try to get the undershirt, which is white for Volunteer State. Making sure that that left sleeve is up and out of the way for Curran. Umpires are going to watch that. You cannot have white on your uniform in such a way to distract the batter. Safety sake. So Dixie with one out to get the runner home. Troy Tuttle. Skeeter Ellison the next to schedule. Cale shepherd on at second base. Tuttle can put it into a gap someplace and shepherd has a chance to score. If he can get the single to the outfield at all, he has a chance to score. Troy Tuttle 1 for 5, has a single and a run scored. The pitch in the dirt, ball one. Tuttle gets on at first base. Then you have the potential winning run with Skeeter Ellison coming to the plate. So Tim Currans being faced with trying to keep the sleeve, the undersleeve up on the left side and trying to come up with a save for his relief pitcher, Keith hurts. A pitch lifted foul down the first baseline and just out of play. One one count. So Troy Tuttle, mixed feelings for Tuttle. He's scheduled to head out on these LDS Church mission almost immediately. Like tomorrow to go to the missionary training center. That will be postponed if they're still playing. Obviously the pitch hit hard to right field. A chance for the score. Albert will make the throw to. Nope. Shepard will hang on at third base. So Tuttle gets the single. Didn't get a good break off of first, off of second base. And Albert got to it in a hurry, not knowing Albert's arms. Dixie now with men at the corners and Skeeter Ellison coming to the plate. One man out. Dixie 90ft away from tying this ballgame again and 270ft away from winning it. And once again the home plate umpire talking to Kearns. Let's get that undershirt taken care of. And Kearns having to be bothered by that. Let's see if he's going to go take it out. And I think that's what's going to take place. Kearns is going to come into the dugout and this may be a mental factor. Now Kearns is going to take the undershirt off. Going to go into the dugout, take the undershirt off. He still has the baseball in the game ball. And Tuttle watching him with an eagle eye. He's standing on at first base. So Tuttle, his second base hit of the day puts him in at first and third. The potential tying run at third and Skeeter Ellison just the man you want there with Brad Thorne waiting on deck. If Dixie has a chance to win. Volunteer State came back to take a lead. Dixie took a lead nurse that lead into the seventh before they handed it back to Volunteer State. Volunteer State at that time took a nine to seven lead. Dixie scored two in the ninth to tie it at nine. Top of the 10th, Lambert walked the first batter and picture perfect, sacrificing to second. The single to left field or to center field. Gets the man home. And it's a 10 to nine ball game. Dixie now trying to do the same thing. Laid off single. Hard single by KL Sheppard. Got him on the sacrifice by Lambert. Got him to second. Tuttle singles to right to put men at the corners. And Skeeter Ellison comes to the plate. Now what emotional factor this will have remains to be seen. Warm up action taking place for Volunteer State down the sidelines. Pitcher down there warming up is number 26, Brian Lewis. Lewis, who pitched in the first game. Volunteer State Court coach Kenny Thomas will tell you that he is doing pitching by committee. Currants may be given a couple of warm up tosses, which would only be fair. I think the umpires are going to say take a couple of warm up tosses now that you don't have the undershirt on. And Current will take a couple. Umpire I think will give him one more and then Skeeter Ellison will step in. So there's your two warm up tosses. Feel okay, pitcher? Yep. The Skeeter Ellison coming to the plate. Ellison walked and scored his last time up. Scored on the sacrifice fly by Craig Peterson to bring it within one run. Then Brad Thorne scored the second run. Ellison has not had a hit in this ball game. The pitch. Ellison chops it at the plate. Is it a fair ball? No foul ball. Umpires his foul immediately. Ellison did not run. He had a potential for a double play at that point. There's been a lot of double plays in this tournament. Some of the observers saying this has been one tournament that has had an unusual amount of double plays. Including the one to end the 10th inning by Dixie. One strike pitch to Skeeter Ellison. The pitch inside ball one. Kearns obviously can throw some heat.
