End zone. So a touchback for Dixie, 14 to 7. Snow Canyon has the lead and Dixie will be working from behind on this one to begin the second half of action. That Snow Canyon defense swarming to the football. It's been a narrow game, 7 nothing. The first quarter ended 14 to 7. The second quarter ended in favor of Snow Canyon in each case. But it was not until the closing seconds of the first half that Snow Canyon was able to break the tie. Doug Jolly the quarterback plant the running backs with wide receivers on each side. Handoff goes to Cole Carter bounces off one tackler, but it's going to be thrown for a loss. Mo Canyon came out firing case and Fry on the tackle. Off the bottom of the stack. Let's double check. That is going to be Curtis Whitehead. So Whitehead and Fry on the tackle. Loss on the play. Back to the 18 yard line. Make it second down and 12 yards to go for Dixie. Dixie working from behind. Neither quarterback has had a sterling day statistically. Doug Jolly is 4 for 8, not bad completion wise, but only 15 yards. Matt Hickman, most of his gain has been in that last drive. 92 yards passing, 6 for 11. So the statistics actually a little better than they seem to appear. Cole Carter thrown for a loss again slipped as he got the football. Getting in there is Rhett Williams. Williams in on the tackle. Also in on the tackle. Let's double check. That's number 45, Lance Warby. So another loss of three yards this time. So Carter takes five yards off of his total, making third down and 15. Snow Canyon coming right after Dixie. They are pumped up. They want this state championship. But ditto for Dixie. Third down, 15 yards to go at the Dixie 15 yard line as pressure on the quarterback and on the running back, Doug Jolly. Third down, 15 yards to go. Movement on that right side. Jumping early with Ben Tafuga. So five yard penalty. So Dixie has the football to begin the second half of action. But they aren't doing well by themselves. Make it third down and 20 yards to go at the Dixie 15. Third and 20 on the Dixie 15 yard line. Back to the Dixie 10 yard line, I should say third and 20 of the Dixie 10. So the five yard penalty is. Defuga jumped early. 10:32 left in the third quarter of play. Traditionally, if you look at the statistics over the year, the third quarter scoring wise has been the weakest for Snow Canyon. It's been the fourth quarter where Snow Canyon seems to outrun everyone else and wear out everyone else that they've had their big time. Back to Pass. Doug Jolly has some time. Throws complete. Almost to a first down to Brady Fonsbeck. May have it very, very close. A little look in. Pass goes to Brady Fonsbeck. And it's close to a first down. Are they going to give it to him? Pass completion. And yes, it will. First down and 10. So a 20 yard pass completion. And if Doug Jolly can get on, then it's going to be a case of Dixie getting more control on this ball game. 14 to 7. Coach, we're going to get you to stay with us. Is that okay? Okay, Larry? I'm not going. Okay. Coach, Ray Odette's going to stay with us. During the second half, wide receivers on each side. Eye formation on the running backs. Once again, Mike Tahoe and Cole Carter in motion. Right to left is Royal Weekly. Handoff goes to Cole Carter. Carter has some running room, has the first down at the 40, spun around at the 44 yard line, brought down again. This time it's Barry Sorensen on the tackle and Dixie not looking too sharp to begin the second half. Coach, suddenly they've had two big plays. Well, I'd go back to the horse too. Run them till it's over. You know, you go. What brought you here? First down and 10 at the 44 yard line for the Flyers. 9:25 left in the third quarter of play. As we mentioned, the third quarter has been the shakiest scoring wise for Snow Canyon. Dixie way back in their huddle. They're almost 20 yards away from. Didn't want anybody to hear anything, I guess. Larry, Eye formation. Nope. Slant the running backs behind the quarterback. Take the handoff to Tahoe, back to pass Jolly over the middle. Has it deflected, almost picked off. Big hand goes up there. Let me double check. I think that's Nick Lang right over the middle and had the hand up and deflected it. The pass was online. It was a good thing it was deflected, Larry, because that receiver was wide open. Doug Jolly looking more confident this half than he did in the first half. Looked a little shaky early. He put a little dip on the ball that time, but good defense. One of the things that's been interesting all year. Jolly has a tendency to loft his passes a little bit, but that time he didn't. At times he does. Wide receivers each side. Tahu in front of Cole Carter in motion. J.D. carter. Handoff goes to Cole Carter. Big hole. Cole carter at the 50 yard line. Dives forward, has the first down, second effort and the official does the mimic. Diving forward. I don't know people listening on the radio, Larry. The official tripped over the line and went flat on his nose. But Carter made a great run inside the Smoke Canyon 44 yard line. First down and 10. Carter who had 119 yards in that first half and Stafford actually lifted it only 29 yards. But it was that big run back by Brooksby. Stafford actually make it a little closer. Almost to the 43 yard line, but inside the 44 of Snow Canyon. Dixie with a football flip floppy. Now to the right side is Chris Atkinson. Quarterback Doug Jolly taking his time, settling down on this drive. In motion is Fonsbeck. Pitch goes to Carter, looking for a block. Carter not getting it yet. Now breaks down at the 41 yard line. Leans forward at the 40. Up high was Curtis Whitehead. And Whitehead as Carter twisted and went down, suddenly went flying. Carter made they be surprisingly strong. And we could say the same thing about Stafford. Neither of them are that heavy, but they are surprisingly strong. Second down, six yards to go. Put it at the Snow Canyon 40 yard line. 8:08 left in the third quarter of play. Dixie trying to gain some momentum at Snow Canyon. It was a case of missed extra points and so everything was increments of 3. Snow Canyon led 3 nothing. Then Dixie led 6 to 3, then Snow Canyon led 9 to 6. And then Dixie led 12 to 9. And that's why he stayed all the way through the third quarter. Down and out pattern just leads his man. Too much intended for J.D. carter. That's a tough pass to throw, isn't it, Coach? Tough pass to throw. It's also a difficult pass to cover. Larry. That was a crossing pattern by the two wide receivers. And as it was difficult to throw, third down and a long six, almost seven yards to go at the 40 yard line, it's either under seven or over six. About. About six and a half yards to go. 7:45 left in the third quarter of play. Jolly looking much more confident this quarter than he did in that first half, has been along the sidelines a lot with his father as an assistant coach at Dixie College. In motion. Brady Fonsbeck left to right, back to pass. Jolly end around goes to Chris Atkinson, has some territory. ATKINSON Inside the 40, makes the turn, has the first down, down the sideline, swirls and pushed out of bounds. Let's see where he stepped. Out of bounds they say upfield now around the 29 yard line. But Atkinson, who can flat run, just flat ran and took it to the snow canyon 29 yard line. 11 yard gain. First down and 10 for Chris Atkinson and The Flyers. Excuse me, Larry. That was a well executed inside reverse. It went. I didn't see who the defender was, but it went right past a snow canyon defender with the ball. He didn't know where it was at. But well executed reverse. Very close. When Jolly and Atkinson got the handoff, it was close. It just screened him right away. Atkinson to the right side, wide receiver left. Also in motion once again is Fonsbeck. The left receiver handoff goes to Carter has some room in the middle. Carter down to the 25 yard line and then thrown back to the 30. Kyle Graff graph. Yes. Double top in the middle of that defense. As a linebacker, Graff is one of the finest that's ever hit the turf here in this. In this part of the state. He's a good linebacker. He's got a lot of range and he's aggressive. He gets after you. He was not the only one. They're going to put it closer to the 26. So a gain of about 3. Second and 7. Lance Warby the other man on that tackle. And Warby plays both sides of the football. One of the few who took wide receiver to the right side. Let's see if we have a new man in there. We do. In motion is J.D. carter to the left side. So a couple of new receivers hand off to Tahu. Tahu is bounced around a little bit. And the answer to Chris Puumatu Mafala for Dixie is Mike Tahu. Much easier to pronounce. Down to the 22 yard line. Gain of about 4 yards on the play. Tahu is. He has a mountain to bring down third. Go ahead. He's quite a challenge when he gets his shoulders square to the line of scrimmage. He does a very good job. But you mentioned it in the first half. I think Larry, he carries a few people with him when he goes through. Third down and a long three yards. Coming up just on the Dixie side of the Snow Canyon 22 yard line. The Flyers with the football. And on the move in motion once again comes Fonspect. Long count by Doug Jolley. Very long count. Handoff goes to Tahoe again. Easily has the first down and then takes another guy with him there on the tackle. And being drug along looks to be Cason Fry. Let's double check and make sure that is Casen Fry. But Frye got a good handle on him and still got drug another yard or two. Casen Fry has had an outstanding year and he is only a junior if I am right. No, correction. He is a senior on that Particular play, Larry. I believe Jolly changed the play at the line of scrimmage. He looked like he was a little bit nervous at the start, but he was changing the play. He must have seen something. And his fullback got a first down for him. Almost to the 15 yard line. First down and 10 for the Flyers. J.D. carter to the left, Chris Atkinson to the right. Once again, that eye formation on the running backs to Carter turning to the outside looking for a block. Has a little one, but not much of one. Carter may have actually had a better block than he found. Down right to the 15 yard line. It looked like Carter may have actually had a little more territory than he actually found. So make it no gain. Second down, 10 yards to go. Or if any gain, a gain of inches. It's interesting when he gets the ball. There's a lot of green shirts around him, I'll tell you that. And in a hurry. They have been keen on Carter all year. The defense, oh yeah, there's no doubt about it. They need a good defensive stand here. To the left side. Brady Bonstack to the right side. Chris Atkinson once again, Snow Canyon flip flopping on their defense. Pitch goes to Carter. Looking to the outside. Missing one tackle is Snow Canyon, but getting him from behind looks to be Bruce Raybon. Raybon came all the way from the left side to the right side. And Raven, who is considered one of the top potential recruits out of Snow Canyon, stopped Cole Carter for only one yard gain. Make it third down and nine. Tremendous play by Raven to get to Carter. Oh boy. There's no question about that. You got to wrap up Carter when you get to him. And that's exactly what he did. He went a long ways to get him. It was a great defensive move like Raven inside, actually inside the 14. Almost closer to an eight yard for a first down situation. Dixie within field goal territory. But down by a 14 to 7 margin. Snow Canyon fans up. CH trying to rally the Warrior defense. Doug Jolly trying to keep the Dixie offense going. Little drop late, erased by Cole Carter. Carter there, but right in the middle was Case and Frey. Also in There was number 31. That was Brad Eswin. Case and Frey saw that one all the way, coach. Yes, he did. He had. I don't think it fooled anybody. Back to the 14 yard line. Loss of about a yard on the play and make it fourth down and a short nine yards. Coming up. Timeout by Dixie with 341 left in the third quarter. Dixie has had the football this entire third quarter. It's a 14 to 7 snow canyon. We'll be back after this timeout back here at Hanson Stadium. 14 to 7, Snow Canyon and coach, I see Cam McGarry down along the sidelines. He's sitting on the bench there, so at least there's some good news there. I'm not sure if he'll be back in the game or not, but it's good to see him sitting there. There is a paramedic that's nearby, so it may have been. He does have diabetes from another problem. Pass to the outside on fourth down. Is it intercepted? No, it's on a fourth down situation. Snow Canyon hold. It was just short intended on the outside for Chris Atkinson. Almost intercepting was Jake Charleston. So Doug Jolley incompleted pass and Snow Canyon takes over. Third down on a fourth down situation with 331 left in the third quarter. First down and 10 for Snow Canyon. Put it back at the Snow Canyon right about the just short of the 14 yard line. Not quite to the 14, just across the 13 yard line. So over eight minutes taken off the clock and Dixie comes away without a score. Snow Canyon has to feel lucky on that one. Brock Jacobson in motion, back to pass. Matt Hickman under pressure. Pass complete. Close to a first down coming out of that backfield. No, it's incomplete. Lance Worbe, the officials coming from the side saying no as he went down, did not have control and the ground knocked it away from him. Second down, 10 yards to go with the Snow Canyon 13. Some pressure on Matt Hickman. Yes, it was good pressure, Larry, but you got to give just about that first offensive series of Dixie. Give Snow Canyon a lot of credit. They held them out there for almost eight minutes and they didn't score. That's good defense bending but not breaking. Yes. Second down, 10 yards to go. The officials have a timeout for just a moment to check this one out to see how they're what they do next on this. Second down, 10 yards to go. Hand off to Brooksby Stafford who can't break it, but this time did not Dan Wright right there. Literally gain of no gain or a half a yard at best. Brooksby Stafford. One of the things coach Gary Dyer said in the pregame show is they wanted to take away the running game of Lance Warby and Brooksby Stafford. And if you look at it, they only had as far as rushing yardage. Snow Canyon 51 in that first half and that's surprising. That is good if you can hold those two. Get to 51 yards. Third down, 10 yards to go. Hickman throws A little offing pass almost intercepted back intended for number four, John Hafen. Hafen pleading his case that Brady Fonsbeck ran him off the play. Cole Carter ended up going right off his fingertips. And coach, if nothing else, this first series of downs has given Dixie a potential for great field position. Right. Snow Canyon is pointing out of their own end zone. So even though Dixie didn't score in the last series, they're still going to get the ball in pretty good field position. Fourth down, 10 yards to go at the Snow Canyon 13. Ben Lane. Here comes the rush. Almost blocked, no flag on the play. Incidental contact. It's going to go out of bounds and it'll be inside the 50 yard line. Mike Smith trying to help the official. The official says no, it went about there and it'll be inside the 46 yard line. So not bad field position for Dixie. It's a great place to start from. Great place to start from. And the pressure from Quinn Rogers Co. Clint Rogers it looked like Nick Slater helped give a little bit of a hurry to Ben Lane. He got a good punt away in spite of the rush. 248 left in the third quarter of play. So just four downs and out. Dixie has the fruit ball. First down and 10 at the Snow Canyon 46 yard line. On the downhill side of the field to the right side is Chris Atkinson. Fonzbeck to the left once again, high formation on the running backs. And quarterback Doug Jolley willing to unleash. This time the pressure is there. Jolly on the run. Jolly is going to take it himself. Inside the 40. He'll put a hit on people. But it was Curtis Whitehead that initiated that one. Doug Jolly not really in a good position to put the hit on that he normally would. And Curtis Lighthead doing the job that time. Good run by Jolly. It was a good run, Larry. It's a good thing you brought the ball back down because his primary receiver fell down in the middle of the field. And so you know that doesn't leave you much of an option left if your receivers fall down, you better keep it. Second down, about two and a half yards to go. A long two short three, 2:11 left in the third quarter of play. Jolly, sometimes surprisingly quick, had a huge pass interception on this field against Wasatch from a defensive line position and ran all the way for the touchdown in motion. J.D. carter, the lone receiver. Handoff goes to Cole. Carter looking for running room. Has them inside the 30, is going to be brought down at the 29, but has the first down for and Dixie running the football with Cole Carter. Carter gets the first down. Put it at the snow canyon 29 yard line. Dixie has been relatively successful with Carter up the middle. He's what's so successful about him. A lot of fun to watch him. Murray is. His feet are so quick and he can change direction so quick. And then watching him in the last few weeks here, he's got great ability to cut back. Once he gets through the line of scrimmage, he can cut back again. The drain so very well and so quick defensively. Robbie Brockman in and Nick Lang out. Flip flopping the receivers. Brady Fonzbeck on the right side this time for Doug Jolly. Jolly faking the handoff. No fake at all. Just rolling to his right, looking for a receiver. Jolly steps up, throws the short pass, has it complete to John Peterson. Short of the first down, Snow Canyon there fumble on the play. Did Snow Canyon get it? No, the official says the ground caused Lance Worby, Brock Jacobson diving after it. Jacobson came up with it, but the official says when he hit the ground there was the ground that knocked the football away. And the pass is complete to John Peterson. The official made the call immediately. There was no doubt in his mind. No. Even though some of the fans get a little excited. Hey, he had both knees on the ground. Second down, four yards to go at the Snow Canyon 23 yard line. Forty seconds left in the third quarter on what has been a fast moving third quarter. Two receivers right in motion. J.D. carter in as a wide receiver this day. Handoff to Cole Carter. A blast up the middle. Not getting that much of a blast. A yard, maybe two on the play, but definitely one. Rolling him back, among others was number 44, Rhett Williams. Williams in the middle of things down to the 22 yard line. So car Cole Carter, not much of a blast that time as he only got a yard. Make it third down and about three yards to go. A short three. More like two and a half. Third and kind of odd yardage. A one yard. You can figure on that one. That's the end of the third quarter, believe it or not. We are at the end of three with a 147 lead for Snow Canyon over Dixie. We'll be back with the fourth and final quarter after this timeout. We're into the fourth quarter now. That was a very fast moving third quarter. And most of the time, almost all of the time was taken by Dixie. Snow Canyon had the football for all of 41 seconds. 41 seconds and four plays, Larry. And still Dixie Came away with no score though. And you know, when you have the ball that much, my goodness, that's Cockley here. We'll see what happens though. You know, they're running pretty well. Third down, three yards to go at the Snow Canyon 22 yard line. Less than three, about two and a half yards to go to get to the, to the first down and actually I think Dixie picked up about six inches on the spot. It's been interesting over the years. You as a coach notice that the spots aren't always exactly where they were before. Oh yeah, I can't believe some of the things that happened. I think it was John Madden used to say on the, you know, his telecast right and left footed official. I didn't think much about it until they mentioned that, but he's right kind of funny. Brock Jenkinson cheering the fans on, trying to get them to get the cheers. Third down, about two and a half yards. Hand off to Tahu. He has it. Tahu right in the middle. Just give it to the mountain and let him move Muhammad. But on that Gary, he doesn't have quite the speed that Chris Fluamatu Mapala has but he does, he does move people. Yes, he does. He's got a good set of hips on him too. He's got a little weight there. Put it down at the 18 yard line. First down and 10 for Dixie. Keeping the football, trying to tie this football game right now. Now the, the way this has gone, similar to what happened in the first meeting between these two as it was a scoreless third quarter quarter. Dixie had the narrow three point lead at the half. J.D. carter and Chris Atkinson wide to the right side, eye formation again. Handoff to Cole Carter. Carter goes nowhere. Snow Canyon swarming to Carter. Kyle Graff in there off the bottom of the stag though. You have Brad Estlin also in there. Rhett Williams and Carter just nailed immediately. Was lucky to get even close to the line of scrimmage. And that's about what he did. Got close to the line of scrimmage. It's a loss of a couple of inches. That was a counter, counter dive play, Larry. And that didn't pull any of these Snow Canyon defenders. They were penetrating and they nailed him right at the line. Okay, we mentioned the Cam was back. Mike McGarry, his father came up and said Cam's okay so we'll find out a little bit more. You got to stay here, Mike. Hang on. We got to find out more. Jolly to throw the pass in the end zone overshoots his intended receiver. Brady Fonsbeck, quick Mike, step up. Oh, well, thanks, Larry. Yeah, Cam was a diabetic. He got a little bit low, but they got some sugars in him and he probably won't play the rest of the game, but he'll be up there on the bench. Okay. We mentioned that he was on the bench, so his mom is back in the hospital after surgery. You're entirely welcome by. That is good news to hear. He's wearing his green too. Got snow cage. See colors all over him. So incomplete a pass. We mentioned the Cam was back out on the bench and so it was the diabetic aspect of it. Third down, 10 yards to go at the Snow Canyon 18 yard line. Doug Jolly back to pass. Green pass complete the cold call. Carter. Carter trying to get away. It's going to go down. Fumble on the play. Snow Canyon has it. I think Snow Canyon claiming that they have it. The pass was complete to Carter and it's a fumble. And Snow Canyon recovers off the bottom of the stack. Let's see if we can get who actually got that recovery. And it may have been Cason Fry. So the pass was complete to Carter on the screen. Green pass. Carter as he turned up field, had the football torn away from him. So a fumble on the play recovered by casen fry with 10:35 left in the ball game. It's first down and 10 for Snow Canyon at the Snow Canyon 25 and the defense has bent but not buckled. Hickman over the middle has it complete to Ben Lane. Lane still on his feet at the 8:29, may have leaned enough to get to the 30, leaned forward. Will the official give it to him at the 30? Lane took plenty of hits on the play. Dixie. A Dixie ballplayer not getting up very soon. And Lane may have a cramp. He is in agony down there. That may be a cramp. I'm not sure he is going to be helped right now. He is in agony. And a Dixie player is down too. That was a tough play as Lane was twisted as he went down and Lane is down. The officials, I think are going to give him the full five yards on the play. Make it second down and five coming up. We mentioned Cam McGarry standing there sitting on the sidelines and from some health problems he developed diabetes. And so that was the reason why the rush to the sidelines. And he's going to be there for a while, but he's going to stay on the sidelines. Senior. It's kind of amazing that Cam is able to play football, but he Is tough young man, and the doctor has given him the go ahead over the last couple of years and he's been able to play. 10:14 left in the ball game. Dixie player now being helped up. And that's J.D. carter. Carter had his bell rung, apparently. Ben Lane coming to the sidelines. They're going to help him to the sidelines, but he's kind of walking. Coach Jesse's limping, but boy, Larry, what a collision after he caught the pass. And like you said, he was caught while he was twisting and struggling for more yardage. And he got nailed. And boy, there was a heck of a collision there. 10:14 left in the ball game. Snow Canyon with a 14 to 7 lead. And Snow Canyon has done everything they could to keep Dixie from scoring. And Dixie's done everything they could but score. You got that? Dixie defensively not quite ready. And Matt Hickman comes out with the football. He's going to run with it at a 30. At the 35. First down, Matt Hickman on a broken play. Aaron Bogenhagen on the tackle. Also in on the tackle is Lance Pendleton. Also coming up looked to be Dan Wright, but it was Hickman. It looked like that was not the play that was called. I don't think so. That was a broken play. You got to give Hickman a lot of credit. He made something out of nothing. And he left one Dixie defender just flat grabbing air. First down and 10 at the Snow Canyon 38 yard line. Snow Canyon with a 14 to 7 lead. Hand off to Warby. Warby gets to the 40 and gets nailed head on by John Peterson. There is some hitting going on out there. They're getting after it right now. You know, Hickman's play is getting to be a big factor here in this ball game as it goes on, Larry, with his passing and his scrambling, that loosens up Dixie's defense. And because he's been so accurate with his passing, and as the game goes on, he has really got an excellent and quick release. We got a. Just looking across the way, one of the Dixie students being carried along as if he was an airplane by two other students. Pass over the middle is almost intercepted and almost complete at the same time. Out of the. Out of nowhere comes Kyle Graff as a wide receiver. Suddenly there were plenty of people back there with him. There was no surprise on that one, apparently for Dixie. Lance Pendleton was back there. Pendleton is a good young man, a sophomore who may end up as the quarterback next year for Dixie. That's good for the future Dixie. When you Get a pre safety or middle safety. That's a sophomore. That says a lot for him. Third down, eight yards to go at the Snow Canyon 40 yard line. Matt Hickman getting the golden opportunity here. Apparently. Timeout being called with 9:12 left in the contest. Still spill Canyon. With that 14:7 lead, the warriors have the advantage. We'll be back after this timeout. Now there's more value. We have no question about it. Wide receivers, each side split. The running backs behind Matt Hickman. Third down, long yardage. Here comes the rush he eludes. Jaren's got Long pass to the short man to Kyle Graff inside the 20. Down for the first down. Hickman just had a man deeper and couldn't get it to him. But he got it to graft. First down and 10 in Dixie territory. And that speaks well for Hickman once again. He knew where his receivers were supposed to be and he was being rushed pretty hard and he just let her fly again. I'm really impressed with his quick release of that football. He gets it out of there in a hurry. Fascinating pass play. Lance Warby actually could have gotten the touchdown if he could have gotten it five yards farther downfield. In the same line, John Heathen wide to the left side. Suddenly a whole new batch of receivers for Snow Canyon. 14 7. Snow Canyon lead the warriors with the advantage with the football. Brooks B. Stafford stopped at the line of scrimmage. Dixie has done a number on Stafford today after that opening kickoff return. Dan right in the middle of things. And once again, Aaron Bogenhagen, the man on the tackle with Wright. No gain, maybe a gain of 1/2 a yard. Make it second down and a long nine. Coming up closer to the 15 yard line. Inside the 16, 8, 18 left in this ball game. Brock Jacobson to the left side. Barry Sorenson to the right side. High formation again. And Matt Hickman sends in motion. Jacobson left to right. Snow Canyon looking for a cushion. Back to pass Hickman into the end zone. No, to the sideline. Out of bounds to Jacobson. Jacobson had both feet at the sidelines, but the official says, uh, his toes were on the sidelines. Brooksby Stafford says right there he had it. And the official standing right there says the toes were on the sidelines. You have to be inside the white lines, not on them. It's amazing how much help these officials have. It's amazing. There's a whole crowd right here. Seconds out, nine yards to go. As we mentioned, Snow Canyon with a higher seed, gets to be the home team. So they're on the normal Dixie side of the field. It's into their hand to helmet mode right now. Snow Canyon late in the game they'll put right hand on the helmet of the man next to him. Sometimes they'll go double handed. And they're into that mode right now. Movement by Warby Tixie excited. There is a procedure call coming up against Snow Canyon. Too many people moved. A little Canadian Football League right there. I think you're right there. Five yard penalty. Coach, what is it with Canadian Football League? Three downs and everybody moves. It looks like, looks like a fire drill. Well, it's old form of rugby, isn't it? I think so. They have 110 yards and what is it, 30 yards deep in the end zone. It's amazing. If you watch Canadian League football it is what Coach Greg Croshaw of Dixie College played a little Canadian football and Kelly Smith had a tryout with the Canadian Football 18. Big Dan up. Back to pass. Hickman looking for the screen pass. Presently there's pressure. Hickman comes back across the way. Are we going to have a penalty? Lance Pendleton almost. There's the flag. Pendleton had his hands on the receiver, then pulled his hands back, but it was too late. I think we're going to have defensive pass interference. Coach. It was close. Yes, it was. You know, Larry, again Hickman's buying himself some time by scrambling back and forth. You can only defend a receiver for so much time and boy, he, he bought some time for himself. Scrambling back there and he let her fly. And he got a defensive pass interference call here. And it was Pendleton. Pendleton did have his hands on briefly. Didn't really disrupt the receiver, but had his hands on. Then brought the hands back, back and held him over his head. But the trailing officials saw the hands off. You can't touch them once they're out there, so it'll be first down. I believe that carries an automatic first down and put it first down and 10 from just inside the Dixie 11 yard line. So you can get the first down with about three inches to spare. First down and 10 and there's about three, three inches between the football and the 10 yard line. High formation on the running backs. Stepping one step to the side is Warby now shifting as Stafford in motion as MacArthur right to left. Flags everywhere. Handoff goes to Warby who fumbles into the end zone. But the whistle had blown. Flags everywhere. The sign is backfield and motion pulls up. Yeah, too many people in motion. More than one man was in motion and pretty tricky play. I think you know if you could execute it well, it'd pull the defense offside. I think that's what it's designed for, but backfired on that one. So it'll be first down and 15 yards to go. Put it just inside the 16, not quite to the 15 yard line as they march this one back. Dixie versus Snow Canyon. Too many people in motion. We've seen that sometimes, sometimes with performers on stage. But this time it was a case of too many, too many of the green shirts in motion. Snow Canyon, a great defensive effort against a great offensive pressure by Dixie High School and no score in the third quarter. We're four plus minutes into the fourth and final quarter. Still no score here in the second half on what looked to be a Snow Canyon walk away from that first series of downs and it turned out not to be. But it's still a 14 7. Snow canyon advantage. Start the clock in motion. Is Brock Jacobson back to pass? Hickman has some running room. Being chased by Clint Rogers eludes Rogers. Hickman down the sidelines. Is going to be decked by his own man. Finally run out of bounds. Hickman grabbed and tossed out of bounds by Aaron Bugenhagen. But it was his own blocker, Bruce Raven that gave him the worst hit on that one. Trying to block Hickman. Great run. And it will be down inside the six, almost to the five. They'll make it. Second down and five yards to go. A 10 yard gain by Hickman. Hickman, who is not that fast a foot in football in baseball, is showing some quickness here. Oh boy, I'll say. When he raises that ball, that hand up to throw the pass, that just freezes linebackers from pursuing him and that buys him some more time. And he's scrambling about 10 yards out of that second down. Five yards to go from just inside the six yard line. Power eye formation. A third running back in there and in motion is Lance Worby. There goes that third running back. Handoff goes to Stafford. Has some running room, but not enough Dixie. Great recovery to get back there as Stafford had plenty of running room to get that touchdown and Aaron Bucknhagen suddenly got after him. Closed in a hurry, but the far right formation, you know, just a basic running play and he used a man out of motion on it. But Dixie closer in a hurry. Put it at about the two yard line. Third down and about, about a yard and a half to go to get the first down. Almost two yards between the two and the three yard line. You can get the first down and not get the gets a touchdown but not by much. Handoff goes to Stafford. Touchdown. Stafford makes it 20 to 7 and Brooks B. Stafford with his second score of this ball game for Stafford on the air. Just a tremendous season for the senior running back. And just taking a look at that brought to Brooksby Stafford on the year as his 23rd rushing touchdown. Plus he has has won by way of reception. So his 24th touchdown of the year. The kick by Whitehead is good. 6:45 left in the contest and Snow Canyon has not only taken the advantage, they have taken the huge advantage 21 to 7 back after this timeout. Honey, I think it's rid of family. It. From Dixie's offense. It sure did Larry. That fumble recovered down here with Carter fumbling the ball here deepened the territory. That was a big, big turnover in the Hayes. No Canes took her down and drove it in back deep. Excuse me. Good drive, good drive. Curtis Whitehead to do the kicking. Back deep. Cole Carter on the far side, almost the middle of the field. And over on one side is Chris Atkinson. The kick coming down to Carter takes it at his own 11 yard line at the 15 of the 20. Up the middle at the 25. Spun around at the 30. Still on his feet at the 30 but off his feet near the 31 yard line. So Carter, good run back but Dixie has a long ways to go and not only a long ways to go because they started their own 31 yard line, but a long ways to go because they start two touchdowns down. That touchdown gives Snow Canyon a little cushion to gamble defensively. And you know that Dixie's going to have to air it out a little bit more. Triple set to the left. Doug Jolly lets the center know that he's there and then shifts in the into a shotgun formation. A wide receiver right to four receivers out there. Jolly is going to take off up the middle. Jolly has some running room. Head fakes will get the first down. Doug Jolly and we have a flag on the play. We may have a face mask as it looks like Brock Jacobson may have grazed the face mask of Doug Jolly. Bruce Raybon on the tackle also. And there it is, the face mask. It looked like Rock Jacobson. Bill Jacobson stepped out for a minute, but I don't think there's any argument on that. I think he saw it right in front of him. So down to the about the 42 yard line and then tack the face mask on on top of that. Jolly didn't hesitate at all when that was open. No, that opened wide open for a Good. Well, it's just like a quarterback draw, Larry, really. And but what they better start doing is hustling here. There's only what about six and a half minutes left to come and they got to come up with 14 points. So if you better get, get moving, some offensive plays calling here. Pretty quick first down and 10, put it inside the snow canyon 44 yard line. So to the snow canyon 44, almost to the 43 yard line for the first down. Doug Jolly back into that shotgun formation. Three receivers to the narrow side of the field to the left, one to the far side of the field. Jolly shapes up, throws to the outside, complete Nicole Carter looks like just short of the first down near the 31 yard line or 34 yard line. And it looks like it'll be just short of the first down. So the pass completion from Doug Jolly to Carter and as we mentioned in the pre game show, Cole Carter, surprise, surprise, is the leading receiver for Dixie this year. Inside right at the 34 yard line. They need to get about three inches to get two inside the 34 for the first down. Doug Jolly gets a hide hard snap, but gets it back. Throwing down the sidelines. There's Cole Carter thrown to the outside and out of bounds. Carter looked back and right into the sun and the pass was thrown behind him. Jolly may have hustled it a little bit too much behind him. Larry, there were two green shirts right around Carter. That's, I think that's good defense. Wherever that kid goes, I put two shirts with him too. Cole Carter has really had quite a game as a senior, no question. His last game of his career and the last Dixie High School game played on this stadium turf. Barring any other state championship tournament games, this will be an end. And it's ironic the Flyers are the visiting team on this one. Innovat again, isn't it, Larry? Two receivers left into the shotgun formation is Jolly, slot man, left handoff goes to Tahu. Tahu gets the first down first you have to get the first down. And that's what Tahu did, but not by much. Got down near the 33 yard line and he needed to get inside the 34. Let's see if they place it down. They aren't giving Dixie that generous a spot. It's going to be an interesting game. Boy, I'll say. I thought he had it by a yard. Of course, you know we're a long ways away, Larry, but left foot, right foot again, there you go at the 34 yard line, inside the 34, stretching out the Chains. And Dixie is short by about the width of an index finger. Nope. They say no, it is the official. I don't know. It looked like when they first put that down, coach, like he was about an index finger width short. Said it was an index finger long, Larry. That was about it. That'll be first down and 10. Put it almost to the snow canyon 33 yard line. 505 left in the contest. Enough time, but barely enough time. Three receivers left. Cole Carter to the right. The three are on the wide side of the field. Back to pass Jolly. Now here comes the pressure. Jolly having to run. Jolly trying to dive away. Jolly can't get away, throws down the sidelines. Is it going to be intentional grounding? There's the flag. No receiver nearby. Cole Carter is saying, hey, I wasn't that far away. But the official saying that is intentional grounding. That's going to be a loss of down two. Critical, critical call. Jolly trying to keep away from taking the sack on that. And once again, the defensive pressure. Yes, sir. Boy, they got a good front. That's where we mentioned at the, at the half, Larry. At the front four of Snow Canyon. Very quick kids. And they pursue their aggressive defensive lineman. Now, before we get much farther with that, there is a number that's popped up again and that was Jeremy Thompson. Larry, on that particular play, I don't know if you had a chance to see it, but after the pass was hit the ground, one of the defenders from Snow Cane pushed a Dixie kid in the back. Oh, so that's what it was called, a personal foul. Yeah, it was. Wasn't intentional grounding, but that was not a smart thing to do. That was, that was the situation. So Dixie a break. It looked like an intentional grounding, although it was a late call. Carter was in that same general direction. He was there, but you know, the ball bounced and the kid hit him in the back. And that's not closure. So 15 yard penalty against Snow Canyon. It was Jeremy Thompson that put all of the pressure on Doug Jolly. Dixie with a break. First down and 10 at the 19 yard line. Almost to the 18 yard line, shotgun formation. Jolly having all the time in the world, throws to the outside over the head of Chris Atkins. Atkinson might have been able to come down with that, but it was pretty close to the sidelines and slightly overthrown. He was there, but like you say, Larry, it was a little too high. Jeremy Thompson, I can't say enough about that. He seems to find certain times when he puts extra pressure on Jolly. That time Jolly had Plenty of time and the blocking up front did the job. Inside the 19, not quite to the 18. 4:41 left in this contest. 21 to 7. Snow Canyon has the lead to the left side, the wide side. J.D. carter and Chris Atkins, slot man left. Also back to pass is Jolly into the end zone. Cole Carter incomplete. Caught it. But as he landed, he landed out of bounds. Mike Esplin on the coverage. Carter, a great catch. The throw was on the money, but Carter couldn't get the feet down before he hit the ground. It was a good effort, but all for naught really. It will be an incompleted pass. A second straight incompleted pass. Jolly very close. Even closer that time with Atkinson. He was within a stride of going into the end zone on that first pass. It will be third down and 10, 4:36 left in the contest. No Canyon fans rising to cheer on the defense. Dixie fans rising to cheer on the offense. Half complete. First and goal for Chris Atkinson from the left side came from the outside in Brock Jacobson on the tackle. It will be first and goal at the four yard line. First down and 10 on the pass completion to Atkinson. I don't know if Julie McGary we mentioned in the hospital after surgery, she may be bursting a stitch or two on this one. And yes, Cam has a blanket over him because it's a little chilly, but he's still there and looks like he's going to be okay. No medics, paramedics. Not within about 10 yards of him anyway. Power eye formation in motion. Dan Wright handoff goes to Cole Carter looking for a block Carter touchdown. So Dixby doing what they had to do with 402 left in the ball game. It is now 21 to 20, 21 to 13, and Dixie now could bring it back to within a touchdown and an extra point. 402 left in this contest. Coach, this one is not over. No, it is. There's plenty of time, Larry. It was important for Dixie to have to score, of course, on these series, but hey, there's four and a half minutes left. There's four minutes left. There's a lot of football here. Critical. Justin Boyle has to get the point after Snow Canyon, if they can get the block, would have a little bit of an advantage. High snap. The kick is up and it is good. There it is. Justin Boyle has made it 21 to 14 with 402 left in the contest. We'll be back with the white knuckle flight to the end after this timeout. 402 left in this contest. One state championship has been determined. Rich High school has the 1A. Dixie and Snow Canyon battling for 3AMorgan and Grantsville battling for 2A. The 4A and the 5A semifinals have been taking place today and yesterday. Orem and Skyline are into the championship game for the 5A next week, 4A semifinals taking place. By the time a week today takes place, all of the Utah state championships will be determined. And Nevada will have the triple header at the Silver Bowl. Is it an onside kick? No. Boyle driving a deep one bounce into the end zone. In fact hits the goal line. And so interesting strategy trusting the defense, Coach. Oh, yeah, Larry, with four minutes to go, boy, that's the last thing you want to do is turn the ball over midfield here to Snow Canyon. But embassy interesting to see here what Snow Canyon does now, Larry, they need to use the clock. First down and 10 at the snow canyon 20 yard line. Dixie has taken away much of Brooksby, Stafford and Lance Warby. And that's your controlling factor. That's true too, but Coach Jacobson is pretty cut and pick and good at using the clock here. The strategy is thick or it is beat, depending how you want to look at it. Quarterback Matt Hickman, it may ride on his shoulders. The junior backup quarterback with Drew Solomonson. Broken leg on the sidelines. Handoff to Lance Worby. No game. Dixie stops, stops Warby. John Peterson on the tackle. J.D. carter making the initial contact. Off the bottom of the stack is Aaron Bogenhagen. Snow Canyon trying to nurse this one home. Lance Worby with no gain. Second down, 10 yards to go. The warriors looking for their first ever state championship. And part of the story. We've mentioned it before. Bill Jacobson in the midst of a successful fight against cancer. That's a little bit why he was emotional in that pregame show. And the kids would love to win it for Coach Jake. Handoff goes to Brooksby. Stafford quick gain up to about the 24 yard line. So Snow Canyon gets a little bit of a run at it. Aaron Bogenhagen on the tackle, helps Stafford to his feet and shakes his hand. I bet he's helping to his feet. He's got to get him up in a hurry. I think he's going to be deep into the every second on that clock. 3 minutes exactly left on the clock and it's still running. Into the Lineup comes Nat MacArthur. Dixie has to stop Snow Canyon from getting a first down. Every time they can get a first down, they can take more time off the clock. And this is a big down for Canyon. Third and above six. Slot man left. You have that eye formation on the running back. Stacked at the line of scrimmage. Matt Hickman, handoff to Stafford. Has some running room. Suddenly it's closed down. Fourth down coming up. Gain of about three yards. Clint Rodgers on the tackle. Rodgers amazingly quick on that defensive side of the field. Just like we saw Bruce. Just like we saw Raybon, Bruce Rabin earlier. Run down Cole Carter from behind. Here we have Rodgers stopping after a three yard gain. Fourth down, three yards coming up. Punting situation. Back deep to receive. Cole Carter. Dixie may want a timeout. Yes, they do. Dixie wants a timeout. Just before the snap with 2:08 left in the contest. 21:14, Snow Canyon. We'll be back with a critical punt after this timeout. Two minutes, eight seconds, Coach. That was a forced timeout. That wasn't really planned. That was a mandatory one. There were 1350 players on the field before they took that time out. Larry Cole Carter must have been doing the count. He knew as a man that was requesting it in a hurry. Hunting situation. Ben Lane, a critical punt with 2:08 left in this ball game. Cole Carter back inside his own 35. Here comes the rush. Lane gets away. A low driving kick away from Carter. Good play. Grabbed by Carter at the 33. Carter grabbed at the 33. There on the tackle for Snow Canyon, Austin Cowley. So Cowley, the hero of the moment. Clock stops with 2:01 left in the contest. Cowley stops Carter with no gain. It will be first down and 10, actually just in second. Just inside the 33 yard line of Dixie. 201 left in the contest. And an interesting twist this year. The clock doesn't stop. Starts on a change of possession until the first snap. So that helps Dixie. Snow Canyon has to nurse this one off the clock defensively. Back to pass. Doug Jolly throwing deep, has Chris Atkinson intercepted by Brock Jacobson. Overshoots Atkinson. Jacobson with the interception. And that may put the nail on it. The turnovers as Atkinson was there. The strong throw was a little too strong. And Jacobson has the pass. Interception with a minute 54 left. First down and 10 for the Warriors. And they sense the victory at the Snow Canyon 43 yard line. Jolly zipped that pass as hard as we've seen any pass this year. And it was just over the outstretched hands of Atkinson. And Jacobson had it all the way. He had it all the way when he let it go. Jacobson watched that baby all of the way. Good interception. Jacobson to the right. Side that may be academic. Snow Canyon wants to run time off the clock. A minute 54 left in the game between the clock and victory. Handoff to Brooksby. Stafford gets the clock started down to the 44 yard line. Now that force timeout may be critical for Dixie. Timeout, Dixie. Second down, nine yards to go with a minute 41 left in the contest. Coach, let's keep it right here. That takes away one timeout that Dixie could have used to have 13 men on the field. Oh, yeah, no question about that, Larry. That's going to be extremely important. Now it's just a matter of running this thing out and keeping hold of the football for Snow Canyon. We've been talking about some of the mistakes. Coach Bill Jacobson talking about mistakes being a key to this ballgame. Both teams have made some, but not all of them are penalties or interceptions or fumbles. Sometimes they're mental mistakes and that comes around to catch up with you too, Larry. But it's going to be an interesting factor here. They've got second down. They got three snaps of the ball here and they better hang on to it and we'll see what happens here. They don't have enough to run it out with. A minute and 41 left. One good first down, Mike. Oh, yeah. First down will be. It'll be it. Yeah. So that's what Mike Smith has been talking about defensively for his Flyers power eye formation. Another man in that backfield in motion is Lance Worby to try to loosen things up. Matt Hickman pitched in the outside to Stafford. Stafford has the running room short of the 50 yard line. Will be brought down at the 49. Great pursuit by Dixie to even catch up with Stafford once he's on the run. He is double tough to catch. You gotta give him credit there too, Larry. On that particular play, it looked to me like he saw he was gonna go out of bounds. So he just kind of did a second base slide and stayed inbounds on the field on the 50s to keep the clock running. Had he gone out of bounds, of course that had been great for Dixie. They stopped the clock, but he didn't stayed in bounds. And the clock's running. Third down, four yards to go at the Snow Canyon 49 yard line. A minute five left in the contest. Snow Canyon has to get the first down or they have to give up the football and Dixie would still have a chance. Hand off to Stafford. Stafford nailed at the line of scrimmage. They'll have to punt with 53 seconds left in the contest. Dixie may have one more shot at it. The clock running. 46 seconds left in the contest. The clock continues to run. The officials not stopping the clock at the 49 yard line. Gain of a half yard. Fourth down and four yards to go. 33 seconds left. Snow Canyon may take the penalty and then punt it away. 26 seconds left in the contest. Snow Canyon then again may take the fourth down and start the clock and see what they can do. Matt Hickman's going to let the five yard penalty take as much time off the clock as possible. Leave Dixie with just a hair of time. Clock stops with 11 seconds left. Five yard penalty for Snow Canyon. A gamble by coach Bill Jacobson. Coach, this comes down to 11 seconds. Oh, yeah. I think Dickie's gonna bring. Bring the whole farm here on this one, Larry. They got to go for a block bunch. Fourth down, nine yards to go. Move it back to the 44 yard line. Snow Canyon wants timeout. We're going to keep it right here. You still have the run back. Ben Lane could punt it deep. That will take some time off the clock. Dixie may have just one more, maybe two more offensive plays. There are a lot of things to take place at best. Yeah, yeah. When that bunch of balls punted, you know, with 11 seconds to go. I'm, I'm. I don't know, I'm just guessing here, but I think the Dixie Flyers are going to be coming. Send them all and let Cole Carter stand back there by himself with a fair catch. That would stop the clock with a fair catch and that would give you one more play no matter what. No matter what. Yeah. That's one thing people don't realize. With a fair catch you still get one play. But yeah, the clock doesn't start when you fair catch a ball. Clock doesn't stop start until it snaps. 11 seconds left in this contest. Snow Canyon students starting to stream out of the Hampson stands on the west side. They're anticipating surrounding the warriors and making Snow Canyon the second undefeated team in the state. If east and Morgan can do it too, that would be four undefeated teams in the state. It's never happened in the history of Utah Prep football. The staff. The kick by Lane. No rush. And Dixie is going to let it go. Out of bounds. Five seconds left. Now the question is how far did it go before it went out of bounds? The official marching back. The punt was there. And where will Dixie have the football? It looks like it will be deep in their own territory at about the 30 yard line. First down and 10 for Dixie at their own 30 with five seconds left. Now, barring penalty, Dixie likely has one play to get the score. Barring penalty, Snow Canyon penalty, Dixie likely has one play to get the score and that would be it. Snow Canyon had the game end last week on offsetting penalties, which would have seen that. Larry, that was an interesting call there. Offsetting penalties and the game was over. I was thinking that they were going to have to replay that down, but the official said, no, there's no time on the clock. You can't play it if there's no time. No time on the clock, maybe a no time down. So offsetting penalties are the same as no penalties and a half. Let's see what happens. You know, this ball is going to go up near to these three receivers here. Triple set to the last shotgun for Doug Jolly. A little bit of a shakiness on the snap and a five yard penalty. They started the clock with three seconds left. That makes it even worse. So the snap was hesitant, hesitation, satchel page sort of hesitation pitch. It'll be first and 15 and five yards more to go. 75 yards to try to get the touchdown. Doug Jolly in his last game as a quarterback for Dixie High School. More and more Snow Canyon spirit students coming from the sidelines. Dixie students standing, many of them chewing fingernails. Right now across the way, a sea of blue in front of us, a sea of green. The blue and the green. And the green has the advantage right now, 21 to 14. And coach back to that penalt, that fumble that Snow Canyon converted on. That's true, Larry, but you know, that's still part of the game of football. That's what makes it so great and things happen. Looks like we got another time out here, Larry, with Snow Canyon. Wayne Kittrell out to talk with his defenders. And I'm not sure if they didn't have 10 men on the field instead of 11. John Hayfen seemed to come from the next county or from over near Pioch. Suddenly he was running towards the huddle. I think probably Snow Canyon is going to make awful good and sure that they keep everybody in front of them and nobody gets behind them. They're going to have the defensive backs deep on this one. There's no question about that one. Doug Jolly. Now, there are some choices. If you go short, Cole Carter has proven he can run with the football. You go deep. Jolly can throw the football deep. Yes, he can. There are a lot of choices here and you only have they put the two seconds back on the clock. It's five seconds again. Not three seconds, it's back to five seconds. The flag and the whistle blew immediately upon that snap. So there shouldn't have been any time off the clock. Stacked to five seconds. That seems like an eternity to have that extra two seconds, especially if you're a Snow Canyon fan. Yes, it does. I think he's just going to hang it up and hope for a defensive mistake or a lucky bounce here. Three receivers out to the right. Cody Fonzbeck, Chris Atkinson, and it looks like Brady Fonzbeck. As much speed as Dixon can put on the field. There go the triple receivers. Jack golly, having all the time in the world. Well, let's fly. Throw it deep. Hope to get somebody. Almost intercepted. Almost caught. It is intercepted by Dixie, by Snow Canyon, Brock Jacobson. And that's the end of the ball game. Jacobson intercepted at the 13 yard line of Snow Canyon. Brings it back to the 18, enough to take the five seconds off. And here comes the sea of green. Snow Canyon football players leaping upon each other. Student body left. Literally, student body left. And for coach Bill Jacobson, an undefeated season, a championship. And the warriors match. Highland High School as the youngest team in the state of Utah ever to get a state championship in only their third year of existence. Quite a feat that. No, quite a few. It's unbelievable. Larry, anytime you're undefeated in a regular season, then go undefeated in the playoffs, in the state championship or. Congratulations to Snow Canyon and Coach Jacobson and his staff and boy, they played great football. And this is a very well played high school football game. Lots of excitement. Larry went right down to the last play. Julie McGarry may have blown another stitch or two. Dixie High School quietly, almost silently walking around the edge of the mass of Snow Canyon fans. Snow Canyon adults staying in the stands is the student body that went down. Dixie walking very slowly, very slowly to the sidelines and to the. To the locker room. Congratulations being given. But Dixie, this is. It's almost. I don't think I've ever seen a team walk almost reverently to the locker room after a ball game was over. Dixie quiet, almost sublime as they walk to the sidelines. Snow Canyon after the initial leap. Everybody is crowded around. There isn't a whole bunch of jumping around right now. Just a lot of hugging and patting on the back. And the Snow Canyon fans have a state championship. It's the Warriors 120 on the year by a 21 to 14 March. And coach, we'll be back and assess this 1. Final score, 21 to 14. Snow Canyon. We'll be back. Hopefully we'll hear from some of the coaching staff on each side after this timeout. Hey, it's the Boulevard home furnishings anniversary. I'm not sure if we get a member of the Snow Canyon coaching staff up here. We're hoping to have somebody from Dixie also to come up. But this, this is what a coach plays for, has these teams play for. And this will be something these kids will remember forever. Oh, you'll never forget this, Larry. You know, even playing in a championship game and then to win it, you don't forget things like this. These live with you forever. And every class reunion, the better you get, you know, so, no, this is a lot of fun and this is what it's all about. And just seeing all these kids and parents and the whole community up here enjoying a good high school football game is really fun. This is almost. They talk about this, about being a backyard brawl because there are cousins, there are relatives, there are friends on each side of this rivalry. And how can you be unhappy when part of the family is happy and try to be. But you know, the thing about it, Larry, the type of a ball game that it's a high school game and mistakes were made and you know, things happen. That's why you play the game, to see who's going to win it. But gee whiz, what a what two fine football teams to come this far and it's too bad somebody has to lose. But they did. And Snow Canyon played excellent football game and they did what they had to do. And you got to be impressed with the few people that they have coming back next year and ah, such a good football team. Well, well played football game. That's about all you can say. And our congratulations to them. I've got to ask you, Coach, first of all, as a fan, you love football. Oh, yeah. As a coach, watching a game like this, what sort of feelings do you have? I don't know, Larry. You know, I've been lucky a couple of times and had a chance to play for it and, and you get one and you just don't forget things like this. It's emotions that live with you forever and it influences what you use the rest of your life. There's no question about it. To see these young men have success and the things they do and it's just a great feeling. We're hoping to see if we can get a member of the Snow Canyon coaching staff up here. I think Dixon, one of the Dixie coaches, is going to be coming up and I think we'll Be able to get a member of the Snow Canyon coaching staff. The presentation being made. It looked like Rob Golding, the principal of Hurricane High School making the formal presentation. Also a representative from the Utah High School Activities association down there to present the game ball. And they're trying to host some coaches now. On the shoulders. Pretty hefty coaches. They better be careful. I don't think they got him on the shoulders. I think they got him up on the hips. That's when Wayne Kittrell and Wayne Kitterell raising the hat high the Snow Canyon. This has been interesting to watch. The Snow Canyon football team just kind of gathered in a lump right together and they have moved from the 30 yard line to midfield and to about the 45 yard line on the south side. But they have not broken ranks. It's like one huge circle of football players. This is a team that really feels some closeness. Oh, you could tell that this is a close team. You know they'll never be together again in a situation like this. They'll never be in a football game again as a group like this, as individuals and it's, you can tell that's a good friendship and a close knit team. Now on the Dixie High School side it was, it was interesting to watch as I mentioned, the Dixie High team move off the field. Field. Apparently some quiet congratulations. A few of the players remained on the field to shake hands with some of their Snow Canyon friends. But it was like they were on the fringe and did not want to interfere with the celebration. I think that speaks well for Dixie, the class and the dignity that they had. And they knew they were beaten today, they were outscored and that speaks well for both programs and the community too. Larry. Hey, what is that thing? The spoils go to Victors and that's what happened here today and that's the way high school games should be played. When it's over, it's over and that's it. If we go back to a key play in this ball game, it came with 10:35 left in the fourth and final quarter. Past completion from Doug Jolly to Cole Carter. He starts up field and suddenly has that football punched away from him. It was really taken away from him as opposed to, to him fumbling that much. Well, it was a good defensive effort on Snow Canyon's part and they did what they had to do because Dixie had been threatening the whole entire second half. And you know that was a key turnover, no question about it. But there's so many plays that go into a football game that determines it and I never felt that one play really determined a game. There's so many factors involved that they can happen. But that's the name of the game. That's why we, you know, what can you say more? Can you say it's just it was a fun game to watch, Very well coached, very well played. I enjoyed it. This is the kind of football games you like and expect in the state championship to go right down to the last play of the ballgame. And if you're wondering about some of the ironies of this game, it was a match of the tailbacks. Brooksby Stafford and Cole Carter. Stafford gets two of the touchdowns, including what proves to be the winning touchdown. Cole Carter gets huge 80 yard run back plus the second touchdown for Dixie. So this battle of the tailbacks continued that way. Outstanding. And yet the odd touchdown, the one that gave Snow Canyon the lead, that made it 147 and the lead they'd never relinquished, was a passing touchdown to Barry Sorensen. And some of the ironies of this, we have some final statistics. We're hoping to get a member of the Snow Canyon coaching. And by the way, for our fans who are waiting for Fernley vs Virgin Valley, Bob Snell. We will have that on a slight tape delay basis. That one is a semifinal matchup going on in Mesquite and we'll have that one on immediately following our post game show here. But still plenty of celebration. And like I said, we're hoping to get a member of the Snow Canyon coaching staff to come up and talk about this one on a state championship. What else can you say? We've got to hear from the coaching staff somewhere and then we'll hear from Bob Snell and Virgin Valley versus Fernley as that's a semifinal matchup. Coach, let's look at some of the of the statistics here. First downs. Dixie actually had more first downs in Snow Canyon, 19 to 10. And many of those picked up in that second half. They were even at the end of the first half, seven to seven. Well, that doesn't surprise me the way Dixie put that their offense together the start of the third quarter, Larry, they marched it right down and did pick up a lot of first downs. But you know, there's so many ways to score in a football game. You don't have to score from a line of scrimmage, but it's an interesting statistic. As far as the rushing yardage. Dixie had 43 rushes as a team for 201 yards. For Snow Canyon, 27 rushes for 89 yards. Dixie did what they wanted to do in that case, they, they slowed down Stafford and Warby saved the one big run back by Stafford at the beginning of the game. That's true. That's when again, you know, that's when the Hickman throwing that football came in a big factor in this ball game. Matt Hickman late in the first half put together, well, put together quite a drive as he had 92 yards in the end of the first half. Doug Jolly only had 15 yards at the end of the ball game. The passing yardage, 9 for 23 for 56 yards for Dixie. And you're pointing out one of the fans down there just happens to know you. Okay. And for Matt Hickman, he completed 8 of 17 passes for 141 yards. As far as the passing yardage in the second half, it was fairly even between the two. But Hickman got some key passes at key times. Yes, he did. And some big completions too, Larry. But hey kid, did a great job. I was impressed with his scrambling and being able to throw on the run. Two interceptions late in the ball game as Doug Jolly came back. One huge interception by Brock Jacobson brought an end to a drive that could have tied the ball game. Another interception at the end just put the cap on this ball game by Brock Jacobs. And those were the two interceptions. He did have two big interceptions, but he had that first one. He had that all of the way. I bet his eyes were as big as baseball watching that ball coming in. Total offense, 257 yards for Dixie on 66 total plays. Snow Canyon, 44 total plays, 230 yards. It was much more even as far as the number of plays until that third quarter. Dixie controlled the third quarter but couldn't get a score. Couldn't get a score. They hit the ball for what, over eight minutes and just couldn't get it across the goal line. Let's look at some of the individual statistics. BROOKS V. Stafford, 19 carries, a total of 47 yards. Lance Warby, five carries, a total of 24 yards. And this one, Matt Hickman, three carries, a total of 18 yards from the quarterback. That's not bad. And no sacks. And no sacks for Dixie. The rushing yardage. Here's how it goes. Cole Carter, 25 carries, 162 yards. Unbelievable in a state championship game. That shows you what kind of a back he was. Last game of the regular season and plus the two postseason games. He has had tremendous run to rushing yardage to finish the season. Cole Carter, who was keyed upon early and was stopped A few times early in the season. So great finish for Cole Carter. Mike Tahoe had 11 carries for 43 yards. Not too shabby on that case. As far as the leading receivers, Cole Carter had three for Dixie for a total of 14 yards. Chris Atkinson, couple of receptions for 26. Brady Fonz back at Ken, couple of receptions for nine for Snow Canyon. Brock Jacobson, two receptions for 33 yards. Lane, couple of receptions for 27 yards. One huge reception right in the middle of that. What proved to be the cushion drive, that third touchdown drive. And tremendous effort by Lane. As far as kicking, let's see if we have. As far as punts, there were three punts by Dixie for a total of 39.3 yards average for Doug Jolly for Lane, he had seven punts for a 34.1 average. But there was some field positioning in the first half. Lane really set the tone in the first half for Snow Canyon with his punting. I thought mentioned, you know, the half player. They're both fine punters and I really believe that was a determining factor. Again, I hate to keep working on that. It was a field position with a kicking game and it was important. Now the St. George has been spoiled. They've had two teams play for the state championship. I don't know if they're going to be happy unless two of the teams play for the state championship again. Well, I think just looking at the roster and seeing these kids play, there's going to be good football teams here for a long time. And Pineview has the team. It's going to be extremely competitive. And Hurricane may be in that mix yet, too. Hurricane always plays good football. And then it's going to be interesting too next year when Cedar splits and they get two more teams up there. So it's going to be a fun league. It could be a wild time. Yeah. Let's take this break. Hopefully we'll be able to get a member of the Snow Canyon coaching staff up here yet and talk about this state championship. The final score, 21:14, snow canyon over Dixie. Back with some final comments and hopefully a member of the coaching staff after this timeout. Add up all the benefits of dealing with Preston's Office Supply and you know why. Here, back here at Hanson Stadium. Caught me a little bit unawares. We're still trying to get part of the coaching staff up here and coach, I'm not sure if we're going to be able to get anybody. They're still in the middle of all our players. Nobody has gone to the locker room yet and they don't want to leave the field, do they, Larry? The coaches and players and everybody. It's kind of interesting to see them out there. They just. They don't want to go home. Now there's been some cheering. There have been a few people jump up and down on this, but this has been. This has been the strangest celebration. Nobody is bouncing off of people right now. Everybody's just kind of milling around. It's like. It's more like the satisfaction from having a good steak. I think they're milling around, but the grin on their faces is unbelievable. I think we're going to be passing a lot of raw lemons around to try to wipe the grins off their faces on this when Snow Canyon warriors with a state championship. Now this is interesting because it's interesting because we have two teams now who have gone through the season. Undefeated Ridge High School and now Snow Canyon. Morgan and East High School still have that opportunity. An unusual year in Utah prep athletics. It is, you know, it is extremely difficult to go and not lose one game in a year that was almost unheard of. But, hey, that tells you the super effort. And you know, Barry, when you go undefeated like that, each game is such a pressure cooker. My goodness. Because everybody wants to knock you off when you're undefeated and the pressure increases and increases and I'll just bet these kids feel like a load's been lifted off their shoulders. We're holding up a little bit as we mentioned. I know that we're anxious to get at the Fernley Virgin Valley game. That's on a slight tape delay basis on that semifinal game going on in Mesquite, but we need to talk with a member of the coaching staff here. And for our Virgin Valley fans, be patient. We'll be with you in just a few minutes. And we'll have plenty of Virgin Valley football the rest of this afternoon right here on KSGI and kz. Easy as slowly but surely, we're seeing one or two players wander around, but they never really head towards the locker room. It's like they don't want to take that football jersey off. This really is an experience that teams will cherish and part of the record for Snow Canyon, you figure one loss in two years, and that was for the state championship last year. Year. It's an amazing record for the warriors in just their second and third year of existence. There's no question at all about that. That's unbelievable. You know, you go over their whole record for three years, it's only, what is it, about 25 and 6 or something to that effect after three years of existence. And that's. That's great. It's unbelievable. They went through a string of not winning right at their first year. At the start, you have to get yourself organized and get your feet on the ground. Even then, I think they've only lost, what, five games the first year and then one the next year and then none this year. It's a great record. And I'm not sure if we can get coach Bill Jacobson. We have a couple of runners down there to try to get him up here and see if we can talk with him here on the radio to get his reaction. Another interesting aspect, Jim Johnson, the principal at Snow Canyon High School, has been involved as head coach at Pine View. And he was one of your assistants when he first came here. Yeah, he even stood and thought out of me when I was at Dixie years ago. And then he helped us for about four or five years as an assistant. Did a great job. And he was a good head coach. He's a great principal. Good principal. And he's running a good show over there. So congratulations to Jim and Bill both. Bill Jacobson is on his way up right now, and there's been a lot of family down here to watch this. And an interesting situation of having father and son situation. You had to go through that, coach. Oh, yeah. It was a lot of fun, though. A lot of fun that two of them. And that's a lot of fun. And right now, Bill Jacobson with his son Brock in one of the key defensive plays. Coach, before we get to Bill Jacobson, thank you for staying with us. Oh, it's a Lot of fun, Larry. Enjoyed it. Always. Always good to associate with you, Larry. It's been a lot of fun. Well, you do a great job and keeping the people informed and, you know, your football. It's an exciting day today. It is an exciting day at Hanson Stadium. Coach Ray Odette with us. Let's take one more brief break that'll give coach Bill Jacobson a chance to get into the. Into the press box here. Final score once again, 21 to 14. Snow Canyon over Dixie. Back with the victorious coach after this timeout. Are you still paying high rent, Sam? Now here we are back at hands of stadium. I knew we were going to be here eventually. It gives Coach Bill Jacobson a chance to catch your breath. You almost change time zones going up on this. You did. I. You know, I walked these steps many a time, a long time ago, and I forgot how far it was up here. Especially when you're in a hurry and you're excited. I noticed that there has been gifts that have been handed out and you're wearing one of those on your head right now that says Snow Canyon 3A state champs. That's a shock to me. My wife came down with it, and I've never been one to do what I call overload your mouth a little bit too soon. That you play the game, and if you're fortunate enough to win, then you celebrate. But we've got a bunch of great boosters and fans on the Snow Canyon side of the hill, and they get a little bit excited, you know, with the idea of playing for a state championship and setting a little bit of history. And it's nice to put on, but I get a little nervous when people start doing things a little premature. It was interesting to watch because the student body's started to file down and as soon as the game was over, they surrounded and there seemed to be a lot of hooping and hollering immediately. And then everybody settled down. It was like a group hug out there. Well, you know, this football team is something special, you know, and I. And sometimes I say this every year. I thought, you know, we learned a couple years ago, and a lot of these kids were part of that first group that went three and five and faced some humiliating times. And then last year when we was 110 in the same situation, playing a team we'd beaten once earlier, those thoughts went through my mind a little bit this past week. And then to see them come together and continue to play hard, even during difficult times, you know, I really think this football team has learned to become A close football team. You know that when they step on the field, they're all there together, we're all there together. We win together, we lose together. And. And we've been fortunate. We haven't had to lose too often together. Not very often at all. Only once in two years. And that's an amazing record, Coach. It is. And we feel fortunate. You know, the last year to be 11:1 and this year 12:0. And you know, it all began actually, that first year we played Dixie in a ball game over to Snow Canyon High School. It was a mighty fine football team and a Sheldon Deckard. We stopped everything Dixie wanted to do. But Sheldon Decker, and he had about three or four long runs against us. But the thing that started us going is we battled back and got beat by a couple touchdowns to a very good Dixie team. I really believe that was the start and the nucleus building of confidence for the kids at Snow Canyon. And we came back the next week and played Park City, who was the number two team out of their region going to the state playoffs and beat them at our place. And since then we've only had the one defeat. But that's where the beginning, that's where it all began. And then each of these kids had caught division. And then we build upon it to what we have today. Let's talk about a third quarter. I know you haven't scored much in the third quarter this year, but you haven't let people score much in the third quarter either. You didn't get the score in the third quarter. Dixie had the ball almost the entire quarter except for 41 seconds and they don't score. You know, I don't believe there's many high school teams that can drive the length of the field and control the ball and score that often. And you look today, Dixie drove the ball at times but couldn't make it when they had to. And their score came on the Carter run where he broke some tackles and you know, we made mistakes and he's opportunistic and he took advantage of it and scored. And our feeling was that they couldn't. We hoped, at least in our game plan, that they couldn't continually drive the ball on us and score, that we're a band but not break defense statistics. First downs, all those are meaningless. What's important is what the scoreboard says at the end. It was interesting that the difference, you have two touchdowns by Stafford, two touchdowns by Cole Carter. The difference is the passing touchdown that gave you the lead that you wouldn't relinquish you know, we. You know, we lost Drew a couple weeks ago. Andrew's a fine young man, and over a.
