Think we'll be ready to play. Coach Greg Croshaw, congratulations on an outstanding year. Best of luck today. Hey, thanks, Larry. And we'll look forward to seeing you after the game. There you've heard from the two coaches, Coach John Anselmo and coach Greg Croshaw. And we're about ready to get underway. Nassau will be looking into the sun, defending the north goal. Dixie will be defending the south goal and will be kicking. They will be receiving. Let's see if we can pick up our receivers. Back deep to receive. It's going to be a little bit tough to read these today for Nassau. Number 20, back deep is Ken Gales, a defensive back. And let's check the other man back there deep doing the kicking is Jared Santor. The kick coming down will be taken at the 13 yard line there by Alvin Brown. Brown up the middle. Brown up across the 20 yard line. Across the 30, down near the 32 yard line. So almost a. Well, a 19 yard run back. Not a bad start for Nassau. Well, he picked up the seam, Larry. You know, it's one of those things where you get anxious at a bowl game. But he, he waited for his blockers and took the middle of the field to watch the scheme open up. And he picked up a nice gain on the kickoff. First down and 10 at the Nassau 32 yard line for the Lions. Dixie versus the Rebels versus the Lions. At the 32. Just short of the 33 yard line, quarterback is Phil Lang. And the men to watch. Willie Thomas, the fullback who will do most of the blocking and Craig Mitter the tailback. All American candidate, Phil Lang looking across that defense. Already making the change. Pumps once, pumps twice. Here comes the pressure from Dixie over the middle. Has it complete. No drop hit immediately. Chuck Porter hit the intended receiver, Ken Colon, who is the leading receiver on the year for Nassau Community College. Porter right there, he. He is incredible. Every time I watch him, I just can't believe he. He kind of strides through everything, but he's always right there. He made an incredible play. Not only did he tackle him right at the time the football got there, but he reached his hand over the shoulder and tipped away the ball. A great play to start the game for Chuck. 32 and a half yard line, second down, 10 yards to go for the Lions of New York. Two receivers right, one left. And on running teams, we may see a lot of passing today. And off Craig Mitter. Mitter bowling his way across the 35, down near the 39 yard line and averaging about 8 yards of carry. If that's any indications the young man can run. And he is strong. Yeah, he just. That was just a shot up the middle off tackle and he only picked up about five yards. So it's going to be third down and five right now. Third down coming up. Third down again of five and a half. Third down and a long four. A short five yards just short of the 39 yard line. The Nassau Community College Lions, third down first. Just underway in the fifth annual Dixie Rotary Bowl Live formation once again fake the handoff. Rolling to the right as Phil Lang shaping up over the middle, has to pass. Intercepted by Dixie. Grabbed off one handed at the 47 yard line by Dixie. And getting up with it is Brigham Burr. A correction, not Brigham Burr, but I believe Jason Duckworth. Let's double check. I think it may have been Jason Duckworth. The man number 29. His seventh, his seventh pass interception of the year for Jason. Not too bad. What happened was the quarterback really had the receiver wide open and he threw across his body and really made a poor throw there. And Duckworth in the right place. First down and 10 for Dixie at the Nassau 44 yard line. First and 10, back to pass. Lindstrom has it complete inside the 40, down the 35 yard line. Pushed out of bounds at the 34 is Kyle Hughes. There on the tackle is number 18, Jerome Pringle. Pringle, Pringle. Outside linebacker, six' four, 210 pounder and he is big. So the pass completed, gain of about nine yards just inside the 35. So it'll be second down, less than a yard to go at the Nassau 35 yard line. So Dixie, one handed grab by Jason Duckworth. He actually reached back and brought it in. Grabbed the pass. Interception. Wide receivers on each side in motion. Tight end Kurt Stoddard. Second down, less than a yard to go. Lindstrom, quick pass, has it complete to Chris Farrado. Little chuke step, gets away at the 25. Pushed out of bounds inside the 19, right at the 20. Ferado finally nailed there by. It looked like Bruce Cherry who came up to get him from a defensive end position, was over there going head on head with him. Somehow put it down at the 19 yard line. First down and 10. So the pass is complete. First of all to Hughes. Then second of all Lindstrom to Peranto. And just as coach Greg Croshaw was talking about, some of the biggest passing games have come in bowl games. First down and 10 at the Nassau 19 yard line. I formation. And off to the fullback, Wilson Kawaka. Dives down near the 15 yard line. Kawaka following big number 71 there for Dixie College, Mike Forch. You know, one of the things I'm sure the coaches saw when they watched the films of Nassau is maybe that the corners played off the receivers and they're going to make those corners honest and watch for Dixie later in the game to maybe fake a short pass and go longer. Second down, about six yards to go. Put it at the Nassau 15 yard line. Just underway. 13:19 Left in the first quarter of play and Dixie threatening within field goal territory. If nothing else, handoff goes to Zed Robinson. Robinson at the tailback position spins almost to the 14 yard line and see if he got any gain at all. Has at least back to the line of scrimmage. And it looks like it may be a no gain. No gain for Zed Robinson. Keep it at the 15 yard line. Third down, about 6 yards to go at the Nassau Community College 15 yard line. Wide receiver to the right is Kyle Hughes. A fullback is Wilson Kovaca. And the sophomore Zed Robinson, even though he had been the number two tailback as a sophomore, getting the honor of starting and he had a great game last year, looking for the pitch and nobody was out there. Jeff Lindstrom left all alone. Zed Robinson went the wrong way. And Lindstrom is nailed back at the 20 yard line. Field goal coming up. Yeah, that's too bad. It was a broken play all the way and Lindstrom did the only thing he could do. When he turned around, there were four white shirts from the Nassau side and all he could do is try to get as much as he could out of the play and hopefully they can make this field goal. Put it at the 27 yard line. A 37 yard attempt by Jarrett Santor trying to get the first score of the ballgame. High snap. It is blocked by Nassau and it's going to be picked up. No. Yes it is. It's going to be fallen on. Nassau eventually is going to get it. It's going to be touched by Nassau. It's a free football then. And finally Nassau gets it at the 23 yard line. A little bit of a mental mistake just touched by Corey Sperling and eventually Sperling fell on it. Yeah, and I don't know, you know, it's one of those things that coaches nightmare because they're the things that don't happen a lot. A blocked field goal block, punt attempt. And a lot of times the mental aspect when you're out there doesn't Click. And it. And it was, it was up for grabs once he touched it. And luckily for the Lions, he jumped on it. First down and 10 at the Nassau 23 yard line. And here we go again. Phil Lange one wide receiver right, two to the left. And the I formation again handed off to Craig Mitter. Mitter dives in, loses the football, picked up. Fumble. No Dixie. Did they get it back? Nassau recovered the fumble. Dixie. Jimmy Sprague had the fumble and tried to pick it up and run with it. Instead he lost it again. Well, I tell you, that's one of the things you just tell players from Pee Wee football clear up to the major leagues or the National Football League is when you see that ball fall on the ball, don't try to pick it up, it's bouncing. You don't know what's going to happen. And that's what he didn't do. Second down and eight. He was nailed near the 27 yard line, but it's a gain. Second down and two, I should say is a gain of eight yards up to the 31 yard line. Handoff to the fullback. Thomas has the first down. Thomas breaking through is going to be met head on and still dragging similar to Wilson Kavaka and Nazar giving Dixie a little bit of their own medicine. Across the 40 down near the 42 yard line. Yeah, yeah. Twin sons from different mothers. Wilson Kvaca and Wilson run exactly alike. And he just. Or Tom. Excuse me. It. Stormed up the middle for 10 yards. Great run. First down and 10 for the Lions at the Nassau 42 yard line. Kind of a cool day, at least in the press box. If you're in the sun, it's beautiful. 10:32 left in the first quarter of play. No score. Dixie had a field goal blocked back to pass. No handoff, draw play. Craig Mitter slips and goes down. Mitter just could not get the traction going. Slipped and went down. Loss on the play. Back at the 40 yard line. So Craig Mitter, no question the young man can run. You can see it has a different sort of stride for a tailback. Yeah, he's. It's kind of a elongated stride. It's not that kind of a halfback where they keep their, their steps short so they can make the cuts. He has more of elongated stride. Looks like a little bit more of a distance runner. He's probably used to it. He's picked up some distance this year. 8 yards average per carry, over 1400 yards. Gain fake the handoff. Lang jump pass thrown short intended out there for Willie Thomas. Coming out of that fullback position, the pressure came from Brigham Burr from the outside. Burr jumped, almost had the block. Well, they read it. They read the pass play that time and. And they sent the right man and it rushed, it rushed Lang and he had to, like you say, the old Joe cap, maybe the jump, jump pass and just fell short. Third down, 12 yards to go. Right at the 40 yard line of Nassau Community College. 947 left in the first quarter of play. And yes, the cheerleaders have leggings on today. It's a little bit uncool. You wish you had some too. Yeah, I wish had some leggings. Okay, wide receivers, each side back to passes. Lang, is it the screen pass? No, Lang tries to take off turn up field. He's still on his feet. Gets near the first down. Lang great second effort. Chuck Porter nailed him, but it may have been short. Lang made a great second effort to lean forward. And very close to a first down. But it looks like Mike Smith and Chuck Porter got him close. Actually quite a way from a first down. Oh, you're looking back. I'm sorry. Look at the original, original gain. Gain of a couple of yards back to the 42 yard line. The punt low driving will be taken by Tolo Ono. Juggled. Tolohono is going to be nailed back at the 25 yard line. Thrown back to the 22. The question is where are they going to place it on the punt? Alex Vopica double check listed as Wopeka. Looked like number 24 out there, but the kicker normally is Gutierrez. So we'll double check on the punt. First down and 10 for Dixie. Tolo Ono on the reception. First down and 10 at the Dixie 25 yard line. No score yet. Both teams have torn up the other's offense just a little bit. Handoff goes to the tailback. Zed Robinson nailed just as he reached the line of scrimmage. Lifted up into the air. Body slammed to the turf by Mike Gentile. Gentile, strong side linebacker got to it. Yeah, it was a great tackle. I think what's happening Larry right now and as we talked briefly before the game is that it's kind of a feeling out process right now. Both teams not sure what the other one's going to do. And there's got to be some nervous people down there as well. And so both teams will start clicking here. I got a feeling. Dixie, undefeated in four previous Dixie Rotary Bowls. Nassau Community College. This is a chance to really move up in the rankings. Pitch back is Ed Robinson dropped and he's going to be dropped. Loss on the play. Back near the 21 yard line. And here comes Kalin hall in. Robinson having a struggle. Robinson dropped the pitch. Yeah, he dropped the pitch. He went the wrong way on a play. You know, I don't know what it's attributed to, but as soon as he dropped that ball, Kalen hall was sent into the game by the coaches. Third down, 14 yards to go. And Kalin hall, the freshman sensation, 946 yards on the regular season. Eight minutes left to the first quarter. Wide to the right is Chris Paranto. To the left is Kyle Hughes. And the defense has had its way on both sides today thus far. Jeff Lindstrom back to pass, has a little time. Throwing back deep is Kaitlin Hall. No. Over his head into the hands of Kyle Hughes. Complete. It was thrown just a little short. And down went number 40. Number 45 in there, who I do not have listed, I believe that is Elvin Robert Coles. We have some changes from our original numbering system. We're going to have to double check. Let's double check down at the and see if we can get some changes in those numbers. They did have some changes. Number 45 was the man who was beaten wide. Defensive back there. First down and 10 after the pass. Completion to Hughes. Just beyond midfield in motion, Wilson Kovaca. Handoff goes to Kalen Hall. Slips. Shift up just a little bit. The dives forward Rick Ortiz or correction, number 72 is our man, Michael Curcio. Defensive tackle got hall around the ankles. The Curcio tripped him up. Down to the 39 yard line. Second down, about 4 yards to go at the Nassau 39 yard line as hall was the ball carrier. I formation. Handoff goes to Kawaka. Kawaka nailed for a yard gain. And that's it. Curcio again. Down low. Up High was number 65, Gentile. Gentile and Curcio. The tackle at a gain of a yard. Third down, about four and a half or three and a half to go. Actually needs to get inside the 35. Almost to the 34. Third down. So a short four, just about the 38 yard line of Nassau Community College. Split the running backs behind quarterback Jeff Lindstrom, who's had a good day passing thus far. Handoff goes to Kalyn hall and getting through with Curcio again. And Curcio who has had an outstanding day already. He and Gentile have been keys on that defense. Yeah, they're the strongest team I've seen Dixie play this year against the run and they're sniffing everything out, well coached and they're waiting on the blocks. You know, it's one of those teams that kind of plays off the blocks rather than rushes and get blocked out of the play and well, they're playing a good, good game right now. Fourth down, about three and a half to go after virtually no game by Kalen Hall. And Dixie's going to go for it, take the handoff. Lindstrom pitches back to Caleb hall, turns up field. Hall is going to be nailed. It's going to be Nassau ball, gain of about a yard on the play. Nassau Community College challenged and spit it back at Dixie Harum. Haram Pringle, outside linebacker is the guy that turned that one in. One thing I want to point out is you've got a fourth down on the about the 35, 38 yard line and you go for it. What that tells me is that the coach has a lot of confidence in these defense and Dixie's proved that all year long for Nassau Community College. First down and 10 at the 38 yard line. No score yet. We're in the first quarter of action and yes, it has been a defensive battle. Some mistakes on both sides, neither one has cost. Handoff goes to the tailback, Craig Mitter. Mitter is going to be stood up as he hits the line of scrimmage. But get a couple of three yards again thrown down there by Mike Smith. Smith in on the tackle. Also in on tackle is Myron Davis and Davison Smith doing the honors. Gain of about 3 yards on the play, put it just short of the 41 yard line. So second down and along seven yards coming up for Nassau. The Lions with 5:15 left in the first quarter on a scoreless afternoon at Hanson Stadium. Fifth annual Dixie Rotary Bowl. Back to pass fake the end around play. Lange still under pressure. Lange is going to be nailed. Myron Davis just kept pursuing and Lang is going to be dropped. Where? At the 28 yard line. That's where the forward momentum was ruled to be reversed. Back to the 28 yard line. Myron Davis on the sack. Lang went for the, threw the fake on the end around and just kept the football. Well, that is a secondary sack right there. The Dixie secondary had the receivers covered so well that Lang had nowhere to throw. And you got to credit that sack to the Dixie defensive secondary. Two receivers out to the left, Wesselhoft and Colon. Wide receiver right also. And an eye formation on the running backs. Handoff goes to Thomas. The fullback has some good yardage across the 35 down near the 37 yard line. But it's going to be way short of first down territory. Yeah, and I think they just wanted to get field position. They didn't want to do anything stupid with a third down and about 20 some odd yards to go. And so they just ran it up the middle and now they're going to let their defense take over, put it at the 36. Actually the putting situation, the kick is up high and will be getting a NASA bounce inside the 35. Down near the 20 yard line is where it's going to be down right there. Number 21 on the carry on the coverage was Peter Syracuse. So the punt brings it down 346 left in the first quarter of play. First down and 10 at the Dixie 20 yard line. First down and 10 at the dixie 20 yard line for the Rebels. Wide receiver to the right is Kyle Hughes who already has two receptions to his credit. Chris Parotto has a big reception on the left side I formation and Kalin hall the tailback back to pass. Lindstrom pumps once, throws complete to Kyle Hughes. Gain of virtually none. A yard, maybe two at the most. Right there on the coverage was Nassau Community College Corey Sperling right there. That's a, that's a scary pass because you're throwing across the field and and you make a two yard pass about 20 yards and then you've got the defensive back right on the wide receiver and. And one slip up either way can mean a pickoff in six points. And that's a, that's a gutsy play to call down there on the 20 yard line. Second down, a long eight, about eight and a half yards to go for Dixie had their own 22 yard line just short of their 22. Craig Record who is from New York. Wide to the left, fake the handoff back to pass. Lindstrom has some time throwing over the middle. There's Craig record beyond. There's a flag up field and let's see if it's going to be against Wilson Kawaka. The flag was thrown in the direction of Wilson Kovaca but nobody was out there. And that's our first flag of the day. Yeah. And I'm not sure what the call is on this. I was watching of course the pass that everybody else was and could have been an illegal block in the back or something and that's exactly what it's going to be. Illegal block against Vixey and a lot of people went ah, that neither team has been able to get any momentum against the other. No, there and you know, you'd think by now that they'd figured a few things out with only three minutes left in the first first quarter. But they're both good teams and that's what happened. When two good teams play each other, they kind of neutralize the other one's strength. Put it back at the 11 yard line, half the distance back to the Dixie 11. So make it second down, 19 yards to go. That's what it's going to be. Offensive pass interference, as they called that apparently either Record or Kovaca. I did not see Record push off, but Kovaca may have given a little shove. So a loss of down also. Third down, 19 yards to go for Dixie. Back to pass. Jeff Lindstrom sets up the screen pass over the head of Kalin Hall. Hall is covered out there by Haram Pringle. Pringle on the coverage, coming out of the backfield with 256 left. Incomplete a pass and Dixie will have to punt again. Right now the defense for Nassau Community College is getting the advantage because they're pushing Dixie deeper. Yeah, field position is very important in a game like this where the defense, one touchdown may win it and so it's very important. And now they can get the kick around midfield or even beyond that in the end zone as Jody Cox to do the punting. Here comes the rush, a big rush. Cox is going to be nailed. There's the flag. It's going to be out of bounds near the 42 yard line. Cox was nailed straight on trying to go for the block and really when he didn't get the football, there was nothing but the kicker to get. Cox comes up and gets a hand. But it's going to be a roughing. The kicker call and the full 15 yards. Full 15 yards. And that's one of the gambles that you call when you call for a block rush. That's one thing you've got as a coach. Got to realize you like the aggressiveness, but boy, you just hate those penalties. I think that was Walter DeForest or La Forest. Walter La Forest on the penalty and it's going to be first down. So a big break for Dixie with 250 left in the first quarter. No score yet, and Dixie in terrible field position actually was in the process of giving Nassau excellent field position. Instead we'll have first down, put it at the 25 yard line. First down and 10 at the Dixie 25 yard line. And the Rebels have a new life. Chris Barranto to the left, Kyle Hughes to the right. 250 left in the first quarter and zeros across the scoreboard. High formation on the running backs. Quarterback Jeff Lindstrom. Long count. Here comes the blitz. Lindstrom quick jump pass goes to Kyle Hughes. Gets away and slips down. Had a chance for a lot of green in front of him, but slipped at the 30 yard line. Just couldn't keep his feet. Well, he read the blitz. Lindstrom read the blitz that time. And the hot receiver, Kyle Hughes out on the right side. And whenever you blitz, that's the problem you're going to have on defense if your corner is beaten and the safety can't help out. That's how Jerry Rice scores a lot of touchdowns. And Kyle had one more move to make and he was off. He made a little curl to come back in to get the pass and then whirled around away from the defenders. Handoff goes to Kalin hall trying to step up field. Hall is going to be nailed with a couple of yard gain up to near the 32 yard line. Nailed there by Robert Coles. Coles on the tackle and there on the tackle for Nassau Community College. Gain of a yard, maybe a yard and a half on the play. Put it near the 31 yard line and make it third down and about four yards to go. Just beyond the 31 wide receiver left, Kyle Hughes who has had the hot hands, literally wide receiver right also third down, moderate yardage. And off goes to Kalin Hall. Nailed from the side there on the tackle is number 94, Al Mack. Mack from that linebacker position. And one of the things that they banquet that was obvious is that Nassau Community College had some big quick linebackers. You could tell, well, you can tell just watching this first quarter that they are, they are very quick and very strong too. They wrap around that the Dixie runners and just take him down to the ground. But Dixie has got to spread off, spread the defense out for Nassau. They've got to run some sweeps. They got to do some things that will open up that middle and they haven't done it yet. So it is fourth down, about almost three yards to go at the 33 yard line. The snap. Jody Cox has a little time, gets away a punt a little bit short but high will be taken right there by number 20, Ken Gales. A little bit of extracurricular activity going on the far side. The Gale gives Nassau good field position at the 39 yard line. Wise fair catch. Yeah, I think the extra pushing and shoving is due to the frustration that both teams are probably feeling right now. They're used to just running the ball all day long at people and winning by big margins. And they come to a bowl game where the bowl talent is quite equal. And it's frustrating for a team that's gone 10 games and had their way. Nassau Community College, first and 10 at the 39 yard line. 46 seconds left in the first quarter and no score. Phil Lang directing Craig Mitter into a slot back position on the right side, leaving one setback. And that's Willie Thomas. Quarterback Phil Lang. Long count at the line of scrimmage. Back to pass. Lang now sees the pressure. Let's go. Just in time. There's Mitter over his head. Mitter was beyond everybody and had nothing but green in front of him. It would have been tough to catch it. Yeah. Lange, though, had happy feet. And whenever you have two defenders coming down your throat, it's hard to set up and throw a strike. He had distance on it, but the accuracy wasn't there. And that's an indication he was a little nervous about getting hit. So a case of Dixie having to breathe a sigh of relief. Coach John Anselmo looking for Craig Mitter to have one big play break one big play today. He feels like one of those has to take place for them to win, for the Lions to win. Wide receiver on each side. Quarterback Phil Lang. High formation. Again, draw play goes to Craig Mitter and he. There is the fumble recovered by Dixie. This time Mike Smith came up with it and he's happy. The Dixie High School grad nailed the fumble as Mitter was met by the tackle. I'll tell you what, there's some serious hitting going on down there. I mean to tell you, Miller got hit like he didn't know what was happening and popped the ball and it is cool down there, but that's really no excuse. The Dixie Rebels are really hitting on defense. 35 seconds left in the first quarter and suddenly Dixie, first down and 10 at the Nassau 36 yard line. John Anselmo didn't hinted that he had the strong defense. Bid does not point as that as the key. Greg Croshaw on the other hand said he felt like the defenses with Tell the Tale. Handoff goes to the fullback Wilson Kawaka. Nailed at the line of scrimmage. There on the tackle is Curcio. And you can see the emotion starting to build on both teams as they have been hitting heads pretty well in there. Well, I tell you, Dixie is stubborn. They're running the ball straight up the middle continuously and Nassau keeps stopping it and they're going to have to make some adjustments and we're about. I don't know if they'll get another playoff till the quarter is over. Seven seconds left in the first quarter of play. No score. That's the end of the first quarter. No score between Nassau and Dixie. We'll be back in 60 seconds. The Nassau community. The Nassau Community College versus Dixie College football game. The Dixie Rotary Bowl. First, second down and about nine and a half to go for Dixie. In motion as Kurt Stoddard pitch goes back to the tailback. That's Kalin Hall. Hall has some running room inside the 25. Has the first down still on his feet. Finally stumbles inside the 20. Kaelin hall, not the power runner, had a tailback that Craig Mitter is, but boy, he dazzles, I'll tell you that. And that's exactly what I was talking about. Dixie hadn't ran a pitch or a sweep all game long. The only one that they were going to run was a failed play. And they've got to stretch the linebackers. They've got to make the linebackers think they're going to go wide and so they can open up the middle of the field for Kovaca. First down and 10 at the 19 yard line for the Rebels. The Rebels versus Nassau. Take the handoff back to pass Jeff Lindstrom under pressure over the middle. There's Kyle Hughes knocked away. Beautiful defensive save there by number 45, Kenny Goles. Kenny. Kenny Gales, I should say Kenny Gales now he's wearing number 45. We're going to have a question now on number 20, who we thought was Kenny Gales. So that's the next question. We'll wait till the next time out, see if we can find out who number 20 is if he is not Kenny Gales. So it's Kenny gales and number 45 as a defensive back. High formation on the running backs in motion as Kurt Stoddard. Wilson Kovaca almost moved. No flags on the play. There are flags now. Pass complete to Chris Parranto. It'll be first and goal. But the two flags and I think it's because of Kovaca's move. Well, I think Stoddard is what happened. He was in motion and he didn't set long enough. He came back to a three point stack stance and, and he, he didn't set for the allotted time. He should have just kept running or even running in place and he would have been okay. But he, he stopped, he went down and the ball was snapped and he never was Set. Set for appropriate amount of time. And. And that was. It was a late call. A little bit of a late call. And of course, every time it seems like Dixie makes a big play on a penalty. Second down, 15 yards to go. Nassau definitely wants to push Dixie back back to the 24 yard line. Dixie versus NASA. No score. 14:20 left in the first half of play as we went through a scoreless first quarter. And now into the second quarter to the right side. Chris Farrado to the left side. Kyle Hughes slant. The running back swatted is Kalyn hall to the left. Motion by Nassau Community College flags again. And I believe this time it's going to be the five yards back the other way. A little bit of shove there on Jeff Lindstrom late. Lindstrom pointing at Chris Braheny, but there is no penalty there. Well, there's much to do about nothing. He just gave him a little love shove, love shove. Five yard penalty, offsides encroachment back to a second and 10 situation. So all we did was lose time off the clock. Yeah. And it's another second down and 10 yards to go. And it'd be interesting to see if Dixie goes to the air again. Second down and 10 at the 19 yard line of Nassau Community College. Dixie trying to take advantage of that fumble recovery by Mike Smith. High formation pitch goes back to the tailback. Kalin hall has a little running room, but it's suddenly eliminated as he at the 17 yard line. A big left arm of number 54 out there, Robert Bass, a middle linebacker. And Bass who has been being recruited by a bunch of schools in the east. And his co captain just nailed Caitlin hall back to the 16 yard line. Gain of a three yards when it could have been more. Third down, seven yards to go. Coming up for Dixie. Dixie had one scoring opportunity. 37 yard field goal. Was blocked by NASA officials. Time out. Apparently a little equipment problem down there. Officials timeout. And now the correction. Coming back. Okay, 13. Apparently chin strap number 65 was our man. Mike Gentile with a bad chinstrap. He's okay now. 1309 left in the first half of play. No score. Dixie threatening for the second time today. Back to pass. Lindstrom throwing the little pass towards the end zone. There's Kyle Hughes knocked away. Had it in his hands. Knocked away again. Well, I tell you that's two now that Kyle had touchdown written all over it. And at the last second, the Nassau defender knocked it away. And two excellent plays by the secondary for the Lions. Once again it was the Nassau Defender Kenny Gales, who we understand is number 45 and not number 20. We're going to have to find out a little bit more. To do the kicking now will be Dixie College's Jarrett Santor wearing number Jody Cox. The snap. The kick. This time Santor drives it deep. Is it good? Yes, it is 12:52 left in the game. And from 31 yards out. A correction from 36 yards out. 46 yards out. No, 36 yards out at the 26 yard line. Jared Santor makes a three nothing Dixie back in 60 seconds. Down the 36 yard field goal by Jarrett Santour. And Santor makes it three nothing with 12:52 left in the first half of play. Long kick. Coming down to number 11 at the 11 yard line. This we have listed as number 20, Kenny Gales. We're gonna have to find out if gales is 45. Number 20 is Arthur Hicks. Hicks is our man. There we go. Thank you. Arthur Hicks is wearing number 20. And Hicks brings it from the 11 yard line clear up to the 35. So from the Nassau 11 to the Nassau 35, Arthur Hicks is the ballplayer on the return. First down and 10 at the Nassau 35. Dixie with a three nothing lead by way of Jarrett Santour's field goal. High formation on the running backs. Wide receivers on each side. Back to pass. No handoff goes to Craig Mitter. Mitter breaks through at the 40 near the 45 yard line. Question is where he touched out. Is it short or right at that first down? And it looks like they're going to give him the first down. Yeah, and he was one man away too because, well, I tell you, once he gets in the open field and and really has nobody around him, he is quick and he slides. He's like on skate. First down and 10 at the 45 yard line though. They're going to hit a second down in inches. Nope. Now they signal first down and 10. It has to be. I saw the second down marker across there. Couldn't have been second down. He did hit the 45. Handoff goes to Mitter. Mitter gets two, three yards on the play. Nailed by Mike Smith, Jason Duckworth. And also in there on the tackle is Tyreeo Pikens. And they're going to have their hands full with Mitter. Right. And Mitter is the kind of runner that looks like he's going to get stronger as the game goes on. And most great runners do. I don't know, they get into the flow, they get the rhythm and then they tire down the defensive Line and really break some big things later on. Wide receiver to the left is Blackman. To the right, number nine, Ken Colon. Phil Lang calling a change of play at the line of scrimmage. Handoff goes to Mitter. Midter, big hole. Mitter has the first down, breaks through. Will he get away? One more man to beat. Gets the block. And Midter finally nailed from behind on the recovery as Dixie finally caught him from behind. And it was big Myron Davis Davis who had the sack. But Mitter almost had the breakaway for the touchdown. The big play that coach John Anselmo was looking for was there. You remember the movie? What movie was that? Karate Kid where he's balanced. Balance right. He has excellent balance. He almost went down a couple of times. He stuck his hand down on the ground so his knee didn't hit. Picked up a big game. First down and 10 at the Dixie 20 yard line. Nassau with a chance to get the lead. Pitch goes to the tailback. New man in there. And breaking through is number 48. That's Elwyn Brown. The tail back in, replacing Mitter. Elvin Brown sweeping to the right side. Picks up some yardage down near the 17 yard line. Gain of at least three. See if they market at the 17 or the 16. Second down, three yards to go at the Dixie 17 yard line. 10:54 left in the first half of play. Three nothing Dixie, but that's looking for carious right now. Yeah, they're making a strong move to score here. But Dixie, this is where they. They really do a good job in this goal line stances. Willie Thomas the fullback, Craig Mitter the tailback. Dixie has their hands full with a good Nassau Community College team. Craig Mitter, big block. Mitter bounces off one tackler, but it was enough to slow him down to get Jim Sprague there. Mike Smith was enough to slow him down, but he bounced right off of Smith. And then it was Jimmy Sprague up for the tackle. Down at the near the 14 yard line, just inside the 15. So a gain of about two and a half yards by Craig Mitter and close to breaking it again. So inside the 15. Third down coming up. Third down and about five to go. High formation again. Handoff to the tailback. Mitter tripped as he hits the line of scrimmage. Gets a couple of yards again. And similar to what Dixie does, it looks almost like a mirror image. But Mitter's a little bigger tailback, I'll tell you. Now they've got a decision to make. It's fourth down right now in about two, three yards to go and and at the 12 yard line need to get just inside the 10. Fourth and along two yards to Gil Gutierrez in to do the kicking. Gil Gutierrez the trying to get the tie. He puts it up and it looks good. Is it good? No. Veers off to the right. So a missed field goal from roughly the 19 yard line by Gutierrez. And now each team has missed one with 9:17 left, Dixie takes over with a 3 nothing lead. So the missed 19 yard 29 yard field goal by Gutierrez and it remains 3 nothing. Dixie first down and 10. Put it back at their own 20 yard line. Dixie has a long ways to go. Kalen hall has made a little difference for Dixie. He's been able to move the football or Zed Robinson was not able to. The wide receivers, Hughes left, Ferrando right. Long count. Jeff Lindstrom. Handoff goes to Wilson Kawaka and Nassau is right there. Curcio stopped up the middle to allow others to tackle. I think Nassau coaches told him that we're not going to get hurt up the middle. If they're going to hurt us, it's going to be on the outside because they have really clogged up Kovaca today and they don't want kovaca picking up 7, 8 yards at a time on first down like he he does a lot of times. And I think that's one of their goals. If they can stop Dixie on first down with a yard to gain, that makes things a little bit different. 850 left in the first half of play. Dixie with a three nothing lead. Handoff goes. Fakes the handoff to Kavaka. Pass over the middle, tapped up into the air and almost dangerous territory. Kurt Stoddard was there, but closer to it was the defensive back looked like number 19. That was John Lindsey back there who had a shot at it. Incomplete. A pass instead. So make it third down. About nine and a half yards to go from just beyond the Dixie 20 yard line. And once again the Nassau defense is clogging up. Dixie clock stops with 8:33 left in the first half of play. 20 and a half yard line, about nine and a half yards to go. Third down. Parrato to the right. His father is head coach over at Mesa State College in Colorado. Back to pass Lindstrom. Here comes the pressure. Lindstrom, let's fly. Has it just off the fingertips of Kalin Hall. Almost a sack by Curcio. Curcio got through. Almost. The interception by number 18, Jerome Pringle. The tall Linebacker instead, it's an incompleted pass. Well, it looked like Lindstrom was trying to throw the ball away and he didn't really get enough on it. And that, that was dangerous. Fourth down, nine and a half yards to go. Jody Cox back at the five yard line to do the kicking. The snap. Cox has some time and booms one back. Deep goes Arthur Hicks. Juggles it. Fumble of the football. Hicks comes up with it. Jason Duckworth almost came up with it. Hicks just screened him away from the football. Yeah, and he was tackled right into the fumble. And that's why he got the ball. I mean, anywhere else he wouldn't have got that ball. But oh, boy, I'll tell you, that ball must be slippery out there today. Maybe it's because it was dropped in by Skydiver. Again. We had the Skydivers who usually drop these things in, and they came in only this year, the last skydiver was Santa Claus. First down and 10 at the Nassau 33 yard line as the Lions take over. Phil Lang going all the way at quarterback. Eye formation on the running backs. Craig Mitter is starting to get some momentum. Handoff goes to Mitter. Mitter has some momentum, gets three yards and a cloud of jerseys dropped in there. In on the tackle is Tony Toloono. Mike Smith. Also off the bottom of the stack is Brigham Burr. So that linebacker core is what's nailing Mitter. He's getting beyond the lineman, getting to the linebacker. Minner is getting a lot of carries. Already carried the ball 10 times so far in the game and, well, I tell you, that gives you plenty of opportunity to gang up on a guy. 3 Nothing Dixie by way of the field goal by Jarrod Santora in the second quarter. High formation on the running backs. Fake the handoff back to pass. Lang has some time. Has it complete? Nope. Drop skipped into the hands of Jeffrey Blackmon. Blackman was there covered by Duckworth and Porter, but it skipped into his hands. Lang not having a great day passing yet. He's 0 for 5. And the coach for Nassau said that we would be surprised with the passing ability if they had to go to the passing game. But so far, maybe a little nervous and so far he's been short on a lot of pitches. Third down and seven yards to go at the 36 yard line. 7:38 left in the first half of play. The bands maneuvering for their halftime performance. We'll have Rulon Jones, former pro defensive lineman. Little screen pass set up to Willie Thomas. Thomas muzzling his way to the 41 yard line. He took shot after shot after shot and still came up Mike Smith there on the tackle. Also in on the tackle, number 42, Paul Howard. It's green pass to Thomas was complete. First completion of the day. But it's a fourth down situation. Gain of about five yards on the play. Fourth and two punting situation. Again Pupita to do the booting. Almost blocked by Porter. Long bounce, a long kick, long low kick will take a little bit of a Dixie bounce and be stopped near the 25 yard line. Solo Ono pointing a little farther up field. But it looks like it's going to be at the 25 yard line, 26 yard line. So Dixie takes over with 659 left in the first half of play. Nobody really has broken service unless you count the field goal. Making a three nothing Dixie. Yeah, and Nassau had a chance. They drove the ball pretty well the previous series and couldn't capitalize and. And Dixie's had the, you know, the interception and a fumble and they've had a little bit more going their way than NASA I has. And the three points indicate that. High formation on the running backs. Kovaca and Kalin hall, wide receivers each side. Tight end to the right is Kurt Stoddard. Handoff goes to Kalin Hall. Trying to find somebody. No, fake the handoff. Back deep to pass is Jeff Lindstrom. Kyle hughes back there, two men back with him. Kenny Gales is one. Also back there is number 19, John Lindsay. Lindsay and Hail Gales right back with him. I tell you, Lystrum has dodged the boat bullet a couple of times. And Kyle Hughes, boy getting a workout today as he ran kind of a crossing pattern. And Nassau is very impressive with their secondary. In fact, their whole defense has been impressive so far today for Kyle Hughes, the leading receiver as far as scoring this year for Dixie College, third leader, number three football player, receiver as far as receptions, total receptions. High formation again, quarterback Jeff Lindstrom. Handoff goes to Wilson Kawaka. Big hole for Kawaka. First down, the little trap block. And Kawaka took advantage of it and that's what Dixie was looking for to spring Kawaka. And I think it opens up the middle when you start passing deep, you start running your sweeps and Dixie did that on the last series and you've got to be aware of everything. And first finally Kovaca got a good block and the middle was opened up and picked up a big first. First down, first down and 10 just across the 37 yard line for Dixie College. First and 10 at the 37. Wide receiver to the right is Kyle Hughes. High formation once again. Jeff Lindstrom the quarterback, fake the handoff. No, give the ball off to Kalyn Hall. Hall scrambling across the 40 near the 41 yard line there on the tackle. Dixie starting to have a little more of their way with the running game. Just across the 40 yard line, so gain of 3 yards by Kalen Hall. Hall may have a struggle to break that thousand yards today. Yeah, the way things are going right now, but I don't know, it just seems that Dixie has picked up their their offensive blocks and the way they get off the ball a little bit more than they were in the first quarter. Nassau Community College from Garden City, New York on Long Island. And yes, as coach John Lancelmo said at the banquet Thursday night, they do have front lawns and everything. Handoff goes to Wilson Kovaca. Little breakaway. Kovaca has the first down still on his feet in Tanassa territory. Kovaka getting nailed on the block was number 89, Rob Stanovich. And Stanovich is hurting Kalen hall back to try to help him. Showing what he can do and why he was, he was the all conference performer that he was. And he really just bowls his way. If he gets a hole and he gets that big frame moving, he can pick up a lot of yardage and also run over some people. First down and 10 at the Nassau 45 yard line. Let's take a 60 second break as Stanovich is down three nothing. Dixie out in front, back in 60 in the first half of play. A little looping pass intended for Ferrando. Thrown out of bounds back there. There is a crowd with him. Corey Spurling, George Ferrantino. Also back There is number 19, John Lindsay. And they're good sized defensive backs. Ferentino the shortest at 5:11 and £190. That's still not bad size. Spurling, I shouldn't say Spurling's the shortest. 5 10, 180. But then you have Lindsey at 62175. Rangy ball player. Lindsey just looped that one out. Second down, 10 yards to go at the NASA 45. Dixie with a three nothing lead. Wilson Kawaka, a couple of big runs starting to loosen things up. There will be a most valuable player selected in this game for each side. Plus we'll have our normal KDXU players of the game. Pitch goes back to Kalen Hall. Big hole. Hall has the first down at the 30. At the 25. Hall dancing up field, had the hole and took Advantage of a great broken field runner. Yeah, just. I mean, once he gets into secondary, he's like a ballet dancer. He's got such great moves. You ought to put music to it. 20 yard gain by Kalin hall and that puts him near a thousand yards for the year. Although officially by njcaa, they don't count the postseason bowl game. Yardage wide to the right side. Craig record in now, former basketball star in high school also in addition to playing football at 6 4. He's a big one. Fake the handoff back to pass. Lindstrom. Lindstrom has his man Piraudo knocked away again. And Kenny Gales for the third time has saved the pass reception. He's real good. He's. He's very instinctive of where the pass is going to go. And, and, and Dixie, quite frankly, doesn't have a very complicated passing game. They've got two wide receivers and occasionally will send the tight end out, but they don't send their running backs. They have no pick plays. They basically run, you know, very simple patterns. And I'm sure they saw that on the films and, But Kenny Gale is, He's made some great plays so far in the game. Midter has had an outstanding game thus far. Gales, Curcio, Gentile, all have to be candidates for the Nassau Player of the Game award. Peranto to the right side, wide receiver left. Also in motion is Wilson Kovaca. Second down, 10 yards to go. Fake the pitch. Lindstrom eludes the sack, taking off upfield. Lindstrom will get about 4 yards down to the 21 yard line. Putting the pressure on was Nassau Community College. They put plenty of pressure on Curcio once again in there. Also in there on the pressure. There were plenty, including number 93, Jerome Yates. And they put a lot of pressure on. Well, it was a fake pitch and then a naked bootleg. And when Lindstrom turned around, he wasn't too naked. He was with a defender who was right on his back and he just ducked out of the way. Got four yards on a play. Down to the 21. Third down, six yards to go. Farrado left. Craig record right. Third down, long yardage. Quarterback Lindstrom. Draw play goes to Wilson. Kawaka has the first down. Has it first and goal, inside the five. Kawaka, the draw play. Right up the middle. He had the big hole. What a, what a beautiful play. Call that time. Because I don't, you know, in the games that we've done here at Hanson Stadium, I don't think We've seen the draw play two or three times and I know Nassau hasn't seen seen that play and they probably just put that in for this game maybe. And, and, and Dixie just doesn't run the draw play very often, but they have thrown the ball a lot today, which has made, just made that play very effective. First and goal just inside the three yard line. Wilson Kovaca is putting on a show. Kovaca, the offensive most valuable player in Region 18 this year. 342 left in the first half and off goes to Kawaka Touc. Offensive tackle Mike Fortress celebrating. He loved that one. He threw the block that kept the man inside so Kovaca could go outside. Well, that's the glory of an offensive lineman. You know what you do down there, the running back knows what you do. A lot of the fans just watch the ball carrier. But that offensive lineman should get credit. We should call that name every time a touchdown's made. He does a lot of work down there. I'm 33, 36 left in the half. It's nine to nothing. Is it 10 to nothing? Make it 10 nothing. Dixie back in 60. 10 to nothing. Dixie with a lead in the previous play. The draw play really set up. By the way, Jeff Lindstrom faked. He did a tremendous job. Yeah, I didn't comment on that, but you're right. Lindstrom faked that little slam pattern that they've been running this so far, this game and, and that. Boy, I tell you, everybody bid on it. And Kovaca just had a tunnel up the middle. Excel. Outstanding play as Dixie starting to get a little momentum. 10 nothing. Suddenly Santor lifts it high and it'll come down to Arthur Hicks again. Take it at his own 13 yard line. Up the middle at the 20, 25. Hicks dances to the outside. Tripped up there on the tackle as Mike Stock. Hicks thought that he was going to elude and his knee went down. Oh, boy. You know, that's frustrating. You're a little quick guy and this is your time to shine. And. And he was clogged up the middle. He went to the outside to cut it up field and he thought he could turn the corner. He thought he had a big game and he got tripped up and that's frustrating. Big game though. Back to the 24 yard line. Not bad, but not as big as Hicks thought he would have. First down and 10 at the NASDAQ 24 yard line. Dixie with a 10 nothing lead. Wide receiver left his Blackman wide receiver on the right side also I formation again and that's what NASA likes. Take the handoff. Lang back to pass, scrambling to his right. Tall, rangy quarterback, throws it behind. Blackman had some time and yes again, little jittery feet. He doesn't get set well and I don't think he's used to passing. Like the coach from Nassau said, he's a running quarterback. He hands, he's handing off the ball nearly 40 times a game. So he's, he's not used to getting back in there. And Dixie, with the pressure they've been showing him, it doesn't give a quarterback a lot of confidence. Bill Lang, 6ft 200 pounds, looks taller than that. Looks more like 6, 3, 200. He looks a little, a little taller. Willie Thomas, stocky fullback, gets the handoff. Thomas runs right into Tyreeo Pikens, but gets a couple of yards anyway. Down near the 26, almost to the 27 yard line. So gain of about three on the play and you can see Dixie's defense come alive well and the reason it does is the offense just went down and put seven points on the board. They've got a 10 nothing lead and they've been on the bench now for a while and they kind of get a little bit cold and they want to get out there and hit some people and they're playing well trying to protect that lead. Kenny Colon on the left side, Blackman on the right, high formation once again and Phil Lang the quarterback for Nassau. The Lions back to pass, long time back there. Pass almost intercepted intended for Blackman. Jimmy Sprague, the young man who was married just earlier this week, just after Thanksgiving. He is now a married man almost at the interception. Well, it's good to know that marriage doesn't slow you down. He, he came back and, and just made a great play on it. And now Nassau with the punt and under pressure. Sopita, the fair catch called for by Tony Tolo who did a good job looking into the sun to catch that at the 36 yard, 37 yard line. He looked pretty calm doing that. Larry actually just kind of, just kind of huddled it in his arms. And now Dixie can really, really put the pressure. There's 2 1/2 minutes left in the half and Dixie, if they can go down and score, that really will show some momentum for the Rebels. Going into locker room. 10 nothing. Dixie with the lead, first down and 10. They have it at their own 37 yard line as Dixie starting to get a little momentum, trying to get the edge and the defenses have been battling each other to the left, Chris Parranto. To the right, Kyle Hughes. High formation on the running backs. And Nassau's fine a ball club as there is in the country. Lindstrom pass over the head of Hughes and there's going to be a flag on the play. I think it'll go against number 18, the linebacker, Jerome Pringle. And I don't think it was really an intentional bump. He bumped him by accident. Yeah, he was so tight on the defensive end of it and he knows, he knows he kind of is frustrated. He knows he made a mistake, but that's a tough break. You know, the kids trying to play good defense and just bumped use on the play. Haram Pringle on the pass interference. It'll be first down and 10 for Dixie. March it to the 43 yard line. The Dixie 43. So big gain. Correction. First down and 10. First down and 10 at the 43 yard line. 2 minutes 30 seconds exactly left in the first half. And Dixie starting to open things up. Just a little bit wide to the left is Craig Record. To the right, Chris Paranto. High formation on the running backs. The young men from Nassau County, New York have done an outstanding job. A long ways to come to play football. Caitlin hall sweeping to the left, jumps across the 45 yard line. Question is, where did he land? They say the 46. Kalin hall, not easy to get a handle on. He isn't that big. And once he got hit that time, it was like he flew about 2 yards. I thought he was stopped for no gain. And he picked up two and a half yards. If they ever decide to have someone other than a female play Peter Pan, he could do it. He has the moves. Ballet like moves. Take the handoff. No, the little old flea flicker pitch back to Jeff Lindstrom. Throwing deep under. Thrown. It's going to be intercepted. Little flea flicker intercepted by Nassau Community College. Not a bad idea. But the pass was overthrown and Verano went a little bit too deep. Let's check the man on the interception. And that was number 19, I believe, John Lindsay on the interception. So the first turnover by Dixie today with a minute 47 left. And that's a big break for Nassau. Yeah, and they still have plenty of time to come down. They've got, I think two timeouts left. And they've got plenty of time. With a minute for 47 left in the second quarter, first down and 10 at the Nassau about the 17 yard line. 17 and a half yard line. Handoff to Craig Mitter trying to break through. Correction to Willie Thomas. Thomas still on his feet and just will not be brought down. He just keeps moving enough for a first down. Yes. Amazing performance. He just kept coming right after him. Willie Thomas on the carry. Two receivers on each side. First down and ten. Put it at the OR. Second down and one. I should say put it just across the 26 yard line. Little screen pass to Willie Thomas. Nailed by Mike Smith. There also was Brian Duck, but Smith was the man who got him. Mike Smith has been successful on the screen passes this year. Once he got the feel of college football. And they lost a couple of yards on that play. Now it's third down and three. It kind of makes you wonder why they just didn't run it and get the first down. Now they're gonna call a timeout. Timeout. With 51 seconds left in the first half of play, 10 nothing. Dixie out in front of Nassau. Back in 60 seconds. Now you can have your own Dixie Spirit Visa credit card from Sun Capital bank and help contribute to the Dixie College Alumni Association. I've got to change the color of this living room. Pete. I want Pete. Yes. Lush, juicy peace. Now, Harvey. Seconds left in the first half of play at Hanson Stadium, the fifth annual Dixie Rotary Bowl. And thus far, Dixie is shutting out Nassau. But an explosive ball club, quarterback Phil Lang. High formation on the running backs. Handoff goes to Mitter. Midter. Big hole. Mitter has the first down. Across the 30 down near the 32 yard line. And Mitter will hide behind his blockers a la Kaylan Hall. But he's a little bigger than Hall. Yeah, he is bigger than hall and he's a power halfback in some respects, like we talked about his stride before. But he does, he picks these blockers and uses them well. Two receivers on each side. Back to pass Phil Lange. Lang under pressure, is going to be tackled by Tyreo Pikens. Opikins, who leads Dixie and sacks this year, I believe Tyree Opikins back at the 19 yard line. Lang just could not get away. And Opikins just kept fighting his way through. Yeah. And once again, another secondary sack. The secondary had the receivers covered very well back at the 19 yard line. It's a loss of 12 flag on the play handoff and going nowhere is Nassau Community College flag. Almost immediately there on the carry was Willie Thomas, Buzz Eckhart in there. Also in on the tackle is Mike Smith. Also in there is Frank Christensen and a motion penalty coming up against NASA is going to be declined. So Dixie will take the one yard gain and the loss of down. Third down and 21 yards to go. Put it at the 20 yard line and that's the end of the first half. Dixie's gonna let that half go. And Nassau is also as Dixie goes to the sideline with a 10 nothing lead over a tough Nassau Community College ball club. Let's take a 90 second break. We'll be back and talk about the first half of this game. And also with a special guest, Rulon Jones, former All Pro football player with the Denver Broncos who was the the banquet speaker on Thursday night. We'll be back in 90 seconds be with the lead at the half. Jennifer Nackin and Rulon Jones the the co grand marshals of the parade earlier today and which was fun to be in by the way. We had a lot of fun. Let's take a look at the scoring. First half scoring and not a whole bunch to look at as both teams have missed field goals. Dixie had the first shot at a field goal on their first series of downs with 11:48 left in the first quarter of play. Dixie had a field goal by Jarrett Santora blocked with 11:48 left. That one was blocked by NASA. Then Dixie came back and with 12:52 left in the first half of play as the first quarter ended scoreless. 12:52 left in the first half of play. The field goal 36 yard field goal by Jarrett Santor made it three nothing. A field goal attempt by Gil Gutierrez with 917 left in the first half went wide to the right. That could have tied the ball game but Dixie came right back. After their second series of downs after that began a drive with 659 left in the first half of their own 26 yard line. And for the first time Wilson Kovaca, who coach John Anselmo was a little afraid of coming into this game. Wilson Kavaka got loose. Yeah, Wilson. And it was spreading the defense out for Dixie. They just took about a quarter and a half to do it and Wilson got some holes up the middle. The blocking was great. And the key play of the game of course is the draw play with the great play fake by Lindstrom and the wide open about 18 yard run that Kovaca ran down to the two yard line and then of course scored on the next play. Kavaka got the big, big tack, big block, I should say by Mike Porch. He just kept that defense in and Kovaca was able to step right behind him and go to the left, right to his left side, to the outside. I think the story though, Larry, is the defense of the Rebels. Unofficially, they held Nassau to under 100 yards. In fact 84 yards total offense and only 8 yards passing. And so Dixie is really, really dominated. That's a dominating half of football. You're talking about a total offense during the year that in 10 ball games produced over almost 3,500 yards in game and they were held under 100 yards in the first half. Yeah, that's, that's a credit to the coaches, the players, how hard they work. And it's going to be interesting to see what kind of adjustments Nassau is going to make. Obviously they might have to do some short passing games to kind of loosen things up, but it will be interesting to see what Dixie encounters from NASA and second half here at halftime. The Super Steppers have performed. The Clovis West High School Band has. Clovis West High School Band. The the band that won the marching band contest last night is going to perform here at halftime and they're getting in position right now. Clovis finished second. Clovis from Clovis, California, Clovis west from Fresno, California and Mountain Crest out of Hiram, Utah in Cache Valley finished third in the marching band competition last night. Lots of fun taking place with the fifth annual Dixie Rotary bowl halftime score. Dixie has a 10 to nothing lead over Nassau Community College. We'll be back in 90 seconds with Reuben Jones, former all pro, former star at Utah State university back in 90 seconds. Provost West High School band about ready to get. They have begun their performance now as part of the halftime festivities. In the previous bowl games that have taken place thus far, the Riggs College Vikings lost to Garden City College 29:17 in the real Dairy Centennial bowl, the Royal Crown Cola bowl, which is played in Iowa and is a doubleheader. North Iowa beat William Rainey Harper 18 to 15 and Ellsworth of Iowa just thumped a Fort Scott of Kansas 69 27. In the east Bowl, Butler county of Kansas defeated Lees McCrae 23 8. So four Kansas teams are involved at bowl games this year, including Coffeyville, Kansas. Tomorrow we'll be playing in the Mid American bowl against the Montgomery College of Maryland for the national championship. 3 Western base football League teams have been involved. One is Ricks College, which lost in the Centennial Bowl. Also this afternoon, Glendale Community College is taking on Walla Walla in the Valley of the sun bowl game. Let's take another 60 second break. We'll be back with more halftime activity. Dixie leading Nassau 10 to nothing at the half. Back in 60, Seymour. Dixie has a 10 nothing lead over Nassau Community College at the half. And we have with us a man who is not only very big in stature, but very big in reputation, Rulon Jones. Welcome to St. George. Well, thank you. I've really enjoyed it. We've had a great time down here in Dixie. Let's talk a little bit about your impressions thus far in the first half of this football game. Well, it's been a good, hard fought football game. You know, the thing you hate to see when you're a coach is the football on the ground. Like this happened a couple times and a few of the mistakes. But you know, a lot of times when you have a couple weeks off, your timing's off just a little bit. I noticed the Rebels there towards the end of the first half seem to get things gelled together a little bit and we're able to move the football. But really it's kind of been a defensive battle. Great defense played by the Rebels and Nassau has played some pretty, pretty tough defense. I'm sure the coaches there for Nassau, the Lions would like to have seen some points scored on the, you know, up on the scoreboard. But it's been a good defensive game and good game altogether. I was talking to Greg Croshaw prior to the game. He was saying he expected it to be a defensive battle. Defense wins tight ball games. Now you've been in that position as a player. Well, defense does and you know, the coaches both emphasize their defense a lot. In fact, Dixie's coach, I think he's the one that pretty much coordinates the defense for him and then he has his offense, great coordinator running that for him. But good defensive teams always seem to do well. But on the other hand, you like to see the ball, you know, some points scored. But the thing is Nassau has fumbled the ball, or excuse me, the Rebels have fumbled the ball a couple times. Nassau has fumbled a few mistakes, but I think they've got the jitters out of them. I think the second half we'll see him come out and really be successful on both sides of the ball. Let's talk a little bit about Rulon Jones. How did you get, how did it become ruling To Rulon. And that's the way it was in the pros. How did that happen? Actually, it is Rulon. Us from Utah know how to say Rulon, but just one of the commentators started saying Rulon and I think it caught out. Maybe it's easier to say than ruling, but it took me about seven or eight years to get everybody saying it right in Denver. Then I come home and everybody thinks I've changed my name to Rulon. So I. They're calling me Rulon, but I've been called a lot worse. But as long as they know who I am, it's nice that they call my name and say my name a little bit sometimes. Let's forget a little bit. Your background goes back to high school in northern Utah. I played at Weaver High School. I'm from northern Utah, from a very rural town, Liberty, just outside of Ogden, just up in the Wasatch Mountain there. Played at Weber High and then was recruited to go to Utah State and played my four years up there. And then fortunately I was able to stay out west and play with Denver. And you know, with the pro draft the way it is, you don't have the opportunity to really choose where you go, but had the opportunity to stay out west and stay in the mountains and really enjoyed our time in Denver, had successful years there with the team and also as an individual and just totally enjoyed my football days. And now that's come to an end and we've gone on to different things. I recall now this goes way back. I recall doing a basketball game from the brand new Weber High School years ago against Box Elder, where there is a tall, slender center by the name of Rulon Jones playing for Weber High School. You were a pretty good basketball player, too. I was probably a little better at basketball in high school than I was in football just because I'd had the opportunity to play a little more basketball. Being from a very rural community, we didn't have the opportunity to play football. So I was a little better basketball player in high school than I was in football. But I was a center type, power type of center. Didn't have a lot of shot or very good touch on the ball and just kind of powered my way underneath. And for that type of player, I knew I really didn't have a future in basketball, so opted to go and play football. And it's been a good decision for me. Did the basketball help you with football? I think basketball is a great athletic sport. The thing that really helped me is I had a great coach on my basketball that coached me with my basketball career. Coaches that are great coaches teach you things that are going to apply to whatever you do, whether it's football a different sport or whether it's life or whatever. And I was fortunate to have a great coach in high school that really got me interested in athletics and really focused me in on being able to be a little bit more successful, I'm sure, than I would have been. And so I was fortunate to have that type of coaches and was able to throughout my career. I recall Dick Conley, Richard Connolly, great coach and kind of took me under his wing and, and really brought me along as a basketball player and as a person. Utah State University. Was it a natural decision to go to Utah State because you're from Northern Utah? Well, I think it was. And also I wasn't recruited to a lot of major colleges like was mentioned. I was more of a basketball player than a football player and Utah State saw some ability in me there. University of Utah recruited me highly and some of the other schools. BYU didn't, but Utah State had some great tradition and just was a natural for me. And the coach that coached me in high school, Coggins, Coach Coggins had some ties up there and really highly recommended Utah State. And I was happy that I went up there and got some great coaching and some great experiences up there at Utah State. Defensive line, how did that decision come come about? I played defensive line my whole career as a high school player. First time I put pads on, they put me on defensive line. I've been there ever since. So just a natural place for me where my abilities were probably the best suited and great. Probably the best as far as I'm concerned for a prejudice. But a great place to play the game of football is on defense line. A lot of intensity, a lot of enthusiasm. You have to have to play there. You get to hit people rather than be hit. It is one at the line of scrimmage, isn't it? Well, it really is. And you know, if somebody watches a game like we have today here, most people watch the ball and they don't see the battles that are going on on the line play. But I'll tell you, the game of football really is won or lost on the line of scrimmage. But people, a lot of fans don't appreciate that. But I do and that's what I tend to focus in on when I'm watching a football game like this today. The tradition at Utah State is great defensive linemen and you were one of them. What about your career at Utah State. Are there some, some memories that stick in your mind? Well, I have a lot of memories and we were ranked while I was there and had some great athletes, Eric Hippel and Rick Paris and many others. But like you said, we had good tradition as far as defensive linemen up there and they've continued to be able to produce some good defensive linemen. Greg Kragan in the NFL now and Sean Miller and some of the other ball players that are still playing in the NFL. I think Sean may be out of the game now, but has played since I was at Utah State. Just good tradition there and there's a lot to tradition and I think they've still had some good even since then. Hamby and some of these guys Garner that's playing up there for Buffalo and guys that are just maintaining the tradition of Utah State linemen. Unfortunately their win loss record hasn't been what we'd like it to be and they haven't been able to keep things going up there as well as you'd like. But it's tough to compete. You know, they don't have a big community there to draw from and a lot of money and it's tough for them to keep competing against the major colleges like they have to. But they've had a good, pretty good season this year, won I think four games in a row here towards the end of the season and hopefully are trying to get things turned around up there. The career of Denver, long and Sterling I guess is one way to describe it. Did you enjoy the NFL? NFL was great and like I mentioned, you know, I didn't have the opportunity to choose where I was going to go play football, but was chosen by Denver to go there and, and that would have been my choice. And great people in Denver, we love the town of Denver. Probably not a better place in the country to play football. The people there love their football team, they love football, they love the ball players and just a place that you just love to play football. And you know, we had the opportunity to go to two Super Bowls while I was there. We didn't come up on the winning end of it, but got a couple rings to show for and a lot of memories and a lot of lessons that I learned while I was on the gridiron but great place to play the game of football and decided to retire maybe a little earlier than I had to, but I knew that I was getting along in my career after nine years and just didn't want to have any bad feelings towards Denver where if they would have had to let me go or trade me or something. My experience there in Denver was great and I didn't want to change that and that's why we retired just bit a little, little over a year ago. Life after the NFL for Rulan Jones, what is it now? Well, it's been great. You know, last year it was tough to watch people play, especially the Broncos, the success they had. But this year, them having not done so good and also just being out of the game for a year and a half now, it's been enjoyable to come and watch football and just relax a little bit this time of the year. I've got a help fitness club that I've started in Ogden that's been really successful for us and that's why I'm applying the knowledge I had to stay in shape for so many years and taking that knowledge that I have and that's what I graduated in, exercise science and apply that to what I want to do. And so we've got a health club and a small ranch. I'm a farm boy at heart and had the opportunity, we're taking the opportunity to raise a few cattle and just enjoy life. Rlan Jones, thank you for being with us. Congratulations on a great career, high school, college and the NFL. And best of luck in your further endeavors. Well, thank you. Thanks for having me. Halftime score, 10 nothing. Dixie will be back in 60 with the second half you half time is over with 10 nothing Dixie with a lead. An amazing defensive performance by the Rebels in the first half. I think they dominated the Nassau Lions and, and I'm sure that that's what they want to accomplish in the second half. I don't think Coach Croshaw would, would be too displeased with the 10 nothing victory. And things stayed status quo. Gutierrez angling towards the corner will let it go into the end zone. Jan Brooks, who might have been with the football team in Midland, Texas saved this bowl game. Jan Brooks will has already played one game for the Dixie basketball team. Chuck Porter, who played briefly last year with the Dixie basketball team, we have some basketball players. I think it was appropriate Rulon Jones was here. Yeah, he played a little and as you were I'm sure talking to him about and, and when you get into athletics it's kind of a basketball you play all everything especially in high school if you're a good athlete which most of these players are. First down and 10 at the Dixie 20 yard line. The Rebels with a 10 nothing lead will have first shot at the football high formation. Kalin hall staying in a tailback. Wide receivers on each side and quarterback is Jeff Lindstrom. Hand off to Kaitlin. Hall has some room. Hall nailed at the 24 yard line was set up and drilled to the Turf. A number 37, Robert Coles. Coles got to him. They're going to say to the 25. Knocked him to the 25 yard line. Just knocked him to the 25, boy. And that's where you can get hurt. I, you know, he was wrapped up low by a defender and then come someone came high and knocked him back and a lot of knee injuries happened from that. But he got up and bounced right back. Obvious Nassau has not given up. A 10 nothing lead is not that substantial. Wilson Kovaca had a great drive in a fullback again. Kalin hall gets a block and gets three yards. Three and a half, almost four yards. There on the tackle is number 54, Robert Bass. Bass, the middle linebacker looks heavenward with both arms extended. He liked that tackle. He must have thought that was neat because he did. He was impressed with himself on that one. Third down and one yard to go and they're just right now Dixie opened up the game throwing the ball a couple of times and now they open up the second half feeling confident in the running game and with two strong runs. I think there is such a thing as football schizophrenia. We'll talk about that in a minute. Wide receivers on each side. Handoff goes to Kovaca. Does he get the first down? No. There is Robert Bass again and celebrating, maybe even a loss on the play. No gain. Anyway, now I would celebrate on that one. I mean that's a two yard or a yard loss about for Kovaca and brings up a punting situation for the Rebels. Fourth down, actually they'll mark it just about a half yard loss. Fourth down, a little over a yard to go and Jody Cox to do the punting. Back deep to receive is Arthur Hicks. I say the schizophrenia. Football schizophrenia. At the dinner the other night, Robert Bass was calm, cool, collected, looked almost distinguished. He is a and here he's celebrating. Tackle great Jody Cox has some time, boots it short but high and it will get a little bit of a Dixie bounce against nassau inside the 35 down near the 33 yard line. Cox this year has had a knack for, even if he doesn't get away, a long kick in terms of airtime, he gets the way the Dixie bounce. It seems like he does get the bounce and a lot of times you can practice that as a punter. You can angle it A certain way that gets the bounces and you know how it rotates off your foot. And a lot of times you can practice that. Looks like Jody's done that. First down and 10. Not bad. Field position for Nassau trailing 10 to nothing. Two receivers both to the right. Eye formation. Watch for Craig Mitter. He may be the man the Nassau will go to. Cheerleaders and Rodney Rebel playing a little footsie down along the sidelines, drawing some interest. Pitch goes to Mitter. Turning to the outside. Mitter gets across the 35 down near the 37 yard line. And shades of a ball player look like he should be playing for Dixie. Well, maybe he will. You're right, he does. He looks like a kind of out of the Dixie running back factory. And he is an excellent back. Second down about six and about five and a half yards to go. Maybe closer to six. Two receivers coming wide to the left. Anthony Wesselhoff, 5:10, freshman. Even farther to the left is Jeffrey Blackman. Handoff goes to Mitter. Mitter runs headlong into the Dixie line. Spins and gets nailed a second time. But did get about 3 yards on the play. And Dixie's doing a job really, because three yards of shots not gonna get you a first down. And really Nassau's got to do something else. I mean, they've got to mix things up. Dixie's king on midter and they're playing great defense on him. A little bit of. There's got to be a little jousting going on down there. I'll explain it in a minute. Up to the 41 yard line. Actually a gain of almost four. Second or third down and about two and a half. Almost three yards to go. Fake the handoff back to passes. Lang. Lang under pressure. Lang eludes Tyreo Pikens has some time. Lang turns up field. Will get sandwiched, but get the first down. Mike Smith, Buzz Eckhart and Brigham Burr had a family reunion right around Phil Lang. And Lang didn't like it. He got it from all sides. Well, I don't. You know, you run the ball, you gotta expect to be hit. I don't really see the problem. Lang got a good shot. His running backs get a good shot every time they run the ball. If. If he doesn't want to get hit, then tell him to throw the ball down the field. First down and 10. Not bad. Field position. 50 yard line for Nassau Community College. High formation. Flip the two receivers over to the right side. This time the wide side of the field. Blackman and Wesselhoft, long count at the Line of scrimmage, Phil Lang. Handoff goes to Mitter. Mitter into the middle of that line and Mike Smith right there. Smith and Tyre Opikins. Smith around the midsection, Opikins up around the shoulder pad. I don't. You know, you meet Smith in the, in the middle of anything and he's going to get the better of it. And, and Mitter found out who. It's a little bit tougher that time. Gain of a yard. Now, Mike Smith is not the biggest kid on the field at Dixie High School. He was an outstanding offensive and defensive player, but he's only 215 pounds and 6ft tall for a linebacker, but tough. Second down, 9 yards to go for Nassau. Trying to get a scoring drive put together. Fake the handoff to the fullback. Lang eludes one tackler, but will not elude three, four and five. Got a couple of yards. Brigham Burr ended up in the middle of things. Tony Tolo Ono, Myron Smith once again, who's had a couple of good tackles so far today, I should say Brigham Burr is the key man there. Gain of a yard, maybe two by Phil Lang. Put it down near the Dixie 47 yard line. So into Dixie territory one of the few times today. Third down, about seven yards to go. Go. 10, 10 left in the third quarter of play. It's 10 nothing. Dixie with the lead. Field goal and a touchdown in the second quarter after a scoreless first quarter. High formation again, Nassau has been shut out for two quarters. They don't want to make it three back to pass. Lang has plenty of time. Lang drills it. Deflected by Dixie, almost intercepted by Mike Smith except it was thrown so hard and it was deflected away from Jason Beckworth. I'm not, I'm not even sure who he's throwing to. I like, I get back to his, his stance and a quarterback has to settle in the pocket and really had no pressure that time and he, his feet is moving all the time. So once again Dixie stops him. Lupita with a long punt. Tony Tolo Ono takes it at the 11 yard line, cuts to the outside and will be drilled at the 17 yard line. Gain of about 6 yards on the play there on the tackle we have another new number. I believe that's. That may be Charlie Ross, but I'm not sure. We're gonna have to double check on number 58. New man in there may not be that critical for us, but the punt by Volpita, the run back by Tolo Ono from the Dixie 11 to the 17 and it's first down and 10 for the Rebels. First and 10 for the Rebels at their own 17 yard line. So each team has returned serve. Pitch pass goes to the outside to Chris Peranto, who's taken out of bounds by Corey Sperling. So on a first and 10 at the Dixie 17, Perranto up near the 22 yard line, gain of about five yards on the play. Make it second down, about five to go at just about four and a half to go. Just across the 22 yard line. And Chris Prado, who has had an outstanding year. Yeah, he really hasn't. He's. He's a favorite receiver of mine. And that's a possession pass and that's a good pass to throw and pick up a half. Your first down, second down, about four and a half to go. Dixie I formation and off goes to Kalin Hall. Runs into some blockers and then trips and goes down, started to go to the outside. I think part of the trip was the fact that there was a hand out there by Davin Miles. Miles, a defensive end sophomore, may have reached out and grabbed him. I One of the things Kalin Hawley bounced off and you thought maybe he had enough speed to get out and around and he really would have, but he did. Like you say, the hand kind of helped him down a little bit. Eight and a half yards to go, third down, a short nine, a long eight coming up for Dixie back at the 18 yard line. I formation of ground. Those split the running backs, Kovaca and Hall, wide receivers each side. 903 left in the third quarter. It's 10 nothing. Dixie back to pass. Lindstrom straight, drop back, throws over the middle, has it complete to Kurt Stoddard. First down, across the 30 down near the 35 yard line. Shades of BYU throwing to the tight end. And that's what I was talking about in the first, you know, the first half. Dixie doesn't have the complicated passing game at that time. Piranho went long down the sideline. Kyle Hughes went long and then cut across the middle of the field, which brought the safety from the middle of the field to go out and cover. And then, and then Stoddard just kind of held at the line of scrimmage, just for a split second and cut across the middle and was wide open. First down, 10 yards to go at the 35 yard line. Chris Farada right, Craig Record on the left side eye formation again. Dixie starting to make a little bit of a move. Handoff goes to Kalen hall. Runs into a Blocker, and that slows him down. Nassau coach John Anselmo saying, I think you're going to be surprised by how quick the Nassau defense is. And they are. Chris Braheny got right there. Yeah, that's been the impressive thing all day long. They're very instinctive and they're coached well because they basically know what Dixie's been doing on a lot of the plays and they've adjusted well and intelligent can help you in your quickness as well. And Nassau, very intelligent team. Second down along, eight yards to go. Yes, Long island is the suburbs of New York City, even though there are a million and a half people in Nassau County. Diving forward is Wilson Kawaka. Kawaka. I'm not sure how much yardage he got. His knee may have touched after a yard. He scored it for quite a while, but it's a gain of about a yard on a play. Wilson Kawaka, who owns the sole touchdown in this ball game, make it third down and about seven yards to go. Gain of about a half yard, almost a full yard on the play. 7:30 left in the third quarter of play. Dixie, trying to nurse a 10 nothing lead, would like a little more cushion against an explosive lion ball club from Nassau. Third down, seven yards to go. In motion. Kurt Stoddard right to left, back to pass. No draw play. Once again, Wilson Kawaka has the first down. Kovaca short of midfield, just across the 47 Kvaka instead of right up the middle. The draw play was to the left and he went that way. A good. Another good call. And the reason that's been working is that Nassau knows that Dixie's been throwing the ball pretty well and they've got to come after the quarterback and try to make Lindstrom flustered a little bit and at least Kovaca open right up the middle. First down and 10. Wilson Kawaka has to be the leader for the most valuable player on the Dixie side in this rotary bowl game. We will select an offensive and defensive player of the game. We'll try to make them a little different than the bowl awards. Pitch goes to Kalen Hall. Big block by Kovaca. Hall at the 40. At the 35 into Nassau territory. Deep to the right side. And Wilson Kalin hall got the block. Wilson Kawaka, the man out in front and he was the man who was the hero there for Kaylin. I tell you what, he has got. I mean, how many times can I say this? He has some incredible quickness laterally because he made some moves That I thought for sure a guy would, would tackle him and he, he just was untouched and he's excited. First down and 10 at the Dixie 33 yard or at the Nassau 33 yard line. 628 left in the third quarter. Dixie threatening to make a little more of a cushion on this against Nassau. Fake the handoff back to pass. Jeff Lindstrom pumps throw the left side incomplete. Led Chris Morano just a little too much right in Lindstrom's numbers was Chris Brahiny again a 6 5, 235 pound defensive end. That'll make you throw it quick. But that was once again the defense by the secondary. I mean to get those in, Lindstrom's got to throw it. So unbelievable to get Farano to catch that ball because who he was. Well covered. Second down, 10 yards to go at the NASA 33 yard line. 618 left in the third quarter of play. Wide receivers each side, Toronto and Kyle Hughes. High formation on the running backs again. Handoff goes to Tyrann Taylor in there instead of Kovaca. Tyrann Taylor getting a shot and the sophomore bursts inside the 20. Big hole. Drop play again, this time to the right side. Yeah, and he's got a little bit more quickness than Kovac and that might that he's fresh legs out there and. And it was just fine blocking by the offensive line for the Rebels. First down and 10 at the 18 yard line. That may have been just an opportunity. A young man who would have been a starting fullback on any other team. Save the team with Wilson. Kavaka. Kavaka getting a breather. I'm not sure if he's injured, but Tyrann Taylor in there and Kalin hall at the tailback in motion. Tight end Kurt Stoddard left to right, back to pass. Lindstrom, quick look in pass down low around the kneecaps. And I think Chris Paranto's knee got in the way of catching him. Yeah, in stride. And that's exactly what happened. And instead of bringing his hands out in front, the ball was too. It was thrown too low. Kind of a combination of two things. 5:48 left in the third quarter of play. 10 nothing. Dixie with the lead as the Rebels are battling the Lions of Nassau County. Nassau Community College from Long island. About as far away from St. George as you can get and still be in the United States. Wide receivers on each side. Pitch goes back to Kalen hall. Gets a little bit of a block and just enough to squirt down to the 14 yard line. So a gain of about four yards on the play for Kalin. Third down, about six yards. Coming up and mark it at the Nassau 14 yard line. The stands are shaded now by the press box. The fans that didn't bring coats are regretting it right now. They're going to mark it at the 15 instead of the 14. So a gain of three yards. Well, I just want to say something about this shade. I'm glad it finally hit him because I've been freezing the whole game. My toes are cold too. Tyron Taylor staying in the fullbacks. Wilson Kovaca apparently may have twisted an ankle or something. He's being attended to along the sidelines. In motion. Kurt Stoddard, left to right draw play once again, this time to Tyrone Taylor. And you do it once too often. They caught on Mike Gentile, the linebacker. Got it. Yeah, it's that you go to the well too many times and the thing that maybe should have happened there is a sweep or something but you know, it's worked very well for him so far. And now they're going to try for the field goal. Fourth down situation. Coming up. Loss on the play. Back to the 20 yard line. And from the 27 yard line, a 37 yard attempt by Santor. Third attempt of the day. Is it good? It is just hooked inside Dixie with a 13 to nothing laid on the 37 yard field goal by Jarrett Santour. Back in.
